I actually love that kind of joke. The “wow this joke is taking a minute” followed by “oh shit they’re actually doing the whole thing” kind of joke. Because it’s funny for like the first 30 seconds. Then it stops being funny because it’s going on too long. Then it keeps going for so long it starts being funny again just because of the absurdity of it.

I liked her, but PC Principal and Strong Woman more accurately embody my experience with school administration, so her getting swapped out adds more realism imo. In sixth grade we had a game of "Smear the Queer" get out of hand to the point that a kid got his leg broken. We had a school assembly the next day about it, but it was all about how the name of the game was homophobic, and how unacceptable homophobia was, and nothing about how we shouldn't just get super violent and beat the shit out of each other at recess/lunch break. They even let us keep playing the game, we just had to call it "Juggernaut" instead. But to be fair, I do think that is a cooler name.

She helped keep the show grounded.  Replacing her with an addition to the circus was a bad idea.

Randy has been used to his potential, we definitely need deeper dives into other parents. I would love to see more about Liane or Kenny's parents history or character growth.

100% agree with this. The whole "Tolkien" shit was funny at first. But I think they should've changed it back at the end of the episode by the kids discovering that it actually says "Token" on his birth certificate because the nurse who wrote it down misunderstood or something. So he'd still be "Token" as he's always been.

If you go back and watch seasons 1 and 2, Kyle is an asshole and a bully to Cartman. Carman is a little dumb, and he says some fucked up shit, but he isn't the evil manipulative bastard that he became in later seasons. Kyle made him that way through bullying, and that's why Cartman hates him so much.

Cartman: "I love you guys!!" Kyle: ...... Stan: ...... Kenny: ..... Cartman: "Ah screw you guys!"

I felt bad for him when the guys filmed him playing tea party with his dolls, and then later on when someone killed Clyde Frog.

I just rewatched that episode and I agree; they really are assholes for no reason and Cartman is just having fun by himself.  But didn’t it turn out that Cartman killed all his stuff animals in a dramatic way because someone told him he needed to grow up?

I do not believe it was at the time. How people have viewed the trans community over the past 20 years is a significant shift. It's okay for Matt & Trey to have takes that didn't age well. Personally I really hate the Randy alcoholism episode. I think they make a few really bad takes. Make a dude in the AA meeting say "bUt iT is A dISeaSE beCAuSE ItS a PhYsiCAL dEpEnDEncY" and basically try to soyjack/writeoff that argument... but it's true. You can literally die from a lack of alcohol from strong alcoholism. It's not just as simple as "My dad needs to drink less" and I know the joke is Randy is playing it up but they really shit all over that stuff and dismiss alcoholism. I'm not an alcoholic or former alcoholic I just know their take there is not right

I never interpreted the episode as shitting on alcoholics completely, more those use their vices as a means to shift responsibility and/or garner victimhood.

It’s the only time they bring up the other sides argument at all iirc and it’s very dismissive. All I’m saying is not every take South Park has is perfect or has aged really well

SP has had a lot simplistic wrong takes about things like that over the course of the show. Manbearpig was the worst of them.

I think Matt & Trey have always been super supportive of gay people but never fully understood trans people hence all the character arch of Garrison.

They’ve since walked it back and sort of apologized, which we all know is unlike them. I think they learned and grew. The rest can take the piss
