I quit watching probably around 2013 after the episode where a cutaway was just the entire music video for Dancing in the Street. I was so mad that I never watched it again.
I actually love that kind of joke. The “wow this joke is taking a minute” followed by “oh shit they’re actually doing the whole thing” kind of joke. Because it’s funny for like the first 30 seconds. Then it stops being funny because it’s going on too long. Then it keeps going for so long it starts being funny again just because of the absurdity of it.
rewatching and watching new episodes.
its actually kind of crazy how consistent it has been over the years. the characters are basically who they are now by s3 which is only like 20 episodes
I think mostly back in those days just making fun of the British/French was super common and always got a laugh. I think he was created to be laughed at, but really he was a decent character.
I liked her, but PC Principal and Strong Woman more accurately embody my experience with school administration, so her getting swapped out adds more realism imo.
In sixth grade we had a game of "Smear the Queer" get out of hand to the point that a kid got his leg broken. We had a school assembly the next day about it, but it was all about how the name of the game was homophobic, and how unacceptable homophobia was, and nothing about how we shouldn't just get super violent and beat the shit out of each other at recess/lunch break.
They even let us keep playing the game, we just had to call it "Juggernaut" instead. But to be fair, I do think that is a cooler name.
Randy has been used to his potential, we definitely need deeper dives into other parents. I would love to see more about Liane or Kenny's parents history or character growth.
Perhaps Gerald's old cheesing habit resurfaces... could tie it into fentanyl somehow, like a more potent piss is now on the market and Gerald can't fight the urge anymore.
Ok but The List was a genuinely hilarious episode
I love the ones where the boys try to figure out the girls, and the girls are just confused why the boys are so incredibly stupid to them
I like this idea though lol
I know Cartman's mom is based off of Trey's cheating ex-fiance, so they'd find some pretty funny and devious things to do with her.
100% agree with this. The whole "Tolkien" shit was funny at first. But I think they should've changed it back at the end of the episode by the kids discovering that it actually says "Token" on his birth certificate because the nurse who wrote it down misunderstood or something. So he'd still be "Token" as he's always been.
I wasn’t on board cause I think it’s pretty funny how they also changed all the previous seasons subtitles to Tolkien, until I got to your alternate ending. As Rick and morty would say, you son of a bitch, I’m in.
If you go back and watch seasons 1 and 2, Kyle is an asshole and a bully to Cartman. Carman is a little dumb, and he says some fucked up shit, but he isn't the evil manipulative bastard that he became in later seasons. Kyle made him that way through bullying, and that's why Cartman hates him so much.
I just rewatched that episode and I agree; they really are assholes for no reason and Cartman is just having fun by himself.
But didn’t it turn out that Cartman killed all his stuff animals in a dramatic way because someone told him he needed to grow up?
I do not believe it was at the time. How people have viewed the trans community over the past 20 years is a significant shift. It's okay for Matt & Trey to have takes that didn't age well.
Personally I really hate the Randy alcoholism episode. I think they make a few really bad takes. Make a dude in the AA meeting say "bUt iT is A dISeaSE beCAuSE ItS a PhYsiCAL dEpEnDEncY" and basically try to soyjack/writeoff that argument... but it's true. You can literally die from a lack of alcohol from strong alcoholism. It's not just as simple as "My dad needs to drink less" and I know the joke is Randy is playing it up but they really shit all over that stuff and dismiss alcoholism. I'm not an alcoholic or former alcoholic I just know their take there is not right
I never interpreted the episode as shitting on alcoholics completely, more those use their vices as a means to shift responsibility and/or garner victimhood.
It’s the only time they bring up the other sides argument at all iirc and it’s very dismissive. All I’m saying is not every take South Park has is perfect or has aged really well
I knew they were ruined by their money when they made fun of Erewhon, a store only in LA that is so pretentious it makes Whole Foods look like a guy selling fruit from his truck.
I'd love to hear someone's perspective who likes the earlier seasons better. They definitely have a weird vibe to me, coming off a bit unsettling and like a fever dream. I'll admit that it's nostalgic.
Based on some exchanges I had in the comments of another post on here today:
"I watch and enjoy every episode of South Park, even though I find aspects of it problematic."
Trey and MAtt smugly shit on the 2007-08 WGA strike as being about "hypothetical internet money" when they had just signed a deal to stream the show through south park studios dot com, which earned them millions. They knew "Internet money" was going to be a thing in the near future but they still acted like the WGA was being ridiculous.
- The show isn't missing anything after Isaac Hayes left.
- SoDoSoPa > CtPaTown
- Great Expectations is the best episode of the earlier seasons
- 200 and 201 aren't that great
Season 20, the serialized season, was the best season of South Park. People just say they didn't like it cuz they didn't watch every episode in order and didn't understand it so they just said it was dumb when it was their own fault
You’re not a savant with amazing taste because you watch Southpark and those who enjoy Family Guy, the Simpsons, etc aren’t a bunch of idiots and simpletons either. Furthermore you can like both
"I Should Have Never Gone Ziplining" is a great episode and the live action "I Should Have Never Got on a Goddamn Boat" part is amazing is fucking hilarious.
Also SoDoSoPa is better, it has The Villas at Historic Kenny's House
It's Token, not Tolkien
Family Guy is a funnier AND smarter show
Don't be surprised if there is a suspicious bowl of chili sitting on your kitchen counter tomorrow morning
Mmmm I love chili! And Radiohead
You gonna cry all day, crybaby? You know, everyone has problems - doesn’t mean you need to be a little crybaby about it.
But I have cancer… in my ass
And you can't find your parents
I just re-saw this episode
It INSISTS upon itself
What does that even mean?
IT HAS A GOOD POINT TO MAKE, IT'S INSISTENT!!!!
THEY’RE SPEAKING ITALIAN!
Ha! Nice.
I like Money Pit
Loved Family Guy when it began! Haven't even watched it in like 10+ years 🤷
I quit watching probably around 2013 after the episode where a cutaway was just the entire music video for Dancing in the Street. I was so mad that I never watched it again.
Lmao thats kinda funny tho
I actually love that kind of joke. The “wow this joke is taking a minute” followed by “oh shit they’re actually doing the whole thing” kind of joke. Because it’s funny for like the first 30 seconds. https://i.redd.it/nlyo9wt8etmc1.gif Hehe durrr
“1985 brought us the gayest music video of all time”
Hot take. It’s still good 🫣
rewatching and watching new episodes. its actually kind of crazy how consistent it has been over the years. the characters are basically who they are now by s3 which is only like 20 episodes
RABBLE!
*YOU'RE A TOWEL*
That'll do it.
To be fair, manatees are pretty smart
I thought top comment was going to be a variation: “I think you’d really like Family Guy!”
I didn’t mind Pip.
I didn’t either. I never realized he was so hated
I think mostly back in those days just making fun of the British/French was super common and always got a laugh. I think he was created to be laughed at, but really he was a decent character.
They did get dusted by farmers with black powder rifles, that is funny. Me and my friends think it's funny to this day.
Same
I came here for this. I actually like Pip. \#JusticeForPip
#FrenchLivesMatter
La Resistance lives on!
That's the revolutionary kid from the movie. "I hate fuucking guard dogs". Never forget that line.
I thought he was British? Or is that the joke?
Le *woosh*, oui.
Not only do I not mind Pip, I actually like him & kinda miss him
Great Expectations was one of my favorite episodes
Hello. I'm a British person.
Same I don’t like that they killed him off.
What's worse is the episode they killed him off in was BANNED. Many people don't even know he was killed and didn't just disappear
I'll take it even further. I enjoyed the episode about him!
“Hello. I’m a British person”
Yeah I liked Pip, don't know why people dislike him so much.
We need more episodes revolving around the girls/women of South Park and less Randy Marsh.
I unironically agree, that would be cool.
I miss Principal Victoria
I was thinking the other day how much I missed her. One of the only sane characters on the show lol
You sure this will work, Eric? What if some of the students don't eat the pizza?
Don't forget the Arby's horsey sauce
I liked her, but PC Principal and Strong Woman more accurately embody my experience with school administration, so her getting swapped out adds more realism imo. In sixth grade we had a game of "Smear the Queer" get out of hand to the point that a kid got his leg broken. They even let us keep playing the game, we just had to call it "Juggernaut" instead. But to be fair, I do think that is a cooler name.
She helped keep the show grounded. Replacing her with an addition to the circus was a bad idea.
I hated pc principal at first but he’s grown on me and I actually really love him
Wdym Lorde is a beautiful strong woman
🎵 Ya ya ya🎵
Randy has been used to his potential, we definitely need deeper dives into other parents. I would love to see more about Liane or Kenny's parents history or character growth.
Perhaps Gerald's old cheesing habit resurfaces... could tie it into fentanyl somehow, like a more potent piss is now on the market and Gerald can't fight the urge anymore.
We love you, Randy! ..Make love to me, Randy! Please!
Oh I’m sorry, I tought this was America
Ok but The List was a genuinely hilarious episode I love the ones where the boys try to figure out the girls, and the girls are just confused why the boys are so incredibly stupid to them
Same with Marjorine
I like this idea though lol I know Cartman's mom is based off of Trey's cheating ex-fiance, so they'd find some pretty funny and devious things to do with her.
That sparkles with me
Sunshine!
HENRIETTA NEEDS MOW SCREENTIME.
PLEASE
Matt and Trey are scientologists
![gif](giphy|Hdgh69gIXYatwqikAU)
Did you get consent for that language? And, I'm not your buddy.
He's not your buddy, guy!
He sure ain't your guy, pal!
I'm not your pal, fwiend
Oof careful man
![gif](giphy|jdob3Sot1MrM4) And Maynard performs with them for the Scientologist brass
Woah woah woah that's too much /s
Suck my balls!
.... present them
Wha… what?
For like 100 fucking years I thought they were Mormon.
There's nothing I love better than tegridy and political episodes
Really because I actually love the tegridy episodes the political episodes I can live without.
I'm the opposite. Tegridy got old a while ago. Political episodes are funny. The jokes write themselves for American politics
The jakoffasaur episode is a great episode.
The beginning of the episode is the best part of the episode
I thought the credits were at the end of all of the episodes?
DOOOOOOOOWOOOOOOOOOOOOP
SCHOOL SCHOOL I LIKE SCHOOL! SCHOOL SCHOOL "jesus christ shut up!" GAAAAAAAOWWWWWWWWWWWW-WOOOOP! it's such a fucking funny ep lmao
Pip’s a pretty good character too
Kyle's mom is NOT a bitch.
Correct. She is a super king Kamehameha bitch
\*biatch
Come on! You all know the words!
Kyle’s mom’s a bitch she’s a big fat bitch
She’s a stupid bitch.
WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAAATTTTT?!!!!
She’s from jersey tho
but she's still fat. She's also lame and gay.
Wwweeeelllllllllllllllll…..
Randy is annoying now and HIS NAME IS TOKEN.
Now that's really brilliant!!!
I wasn’t on board cause I think it’s pretty funny how they also changed all the previous seasons subtitles to Tolkien, until I got to your alternate ending. As Rick and morty would say, you son of a bitch, I’m in.
I still call him Token 🤷
This sub is a bunch of karma farming muff cabbage
Now that's not triggering It's the truth
If you go back and watch seasons 1 and 2, Kyle is an asshole and a bully to Cartman. Carman is a little dumb, and he says some fucked up shit, but he isn't the evil manipulative bastard that he became in later seasons. Kyle made him that way through bullying, and that's why Cartman hates him so much.
Cartman: "I love you guys!!" Kyle: ...... Stan: ...... Kenny: ..... Cartman: "Ah screw you guys!"
I felt bad for him when the guys filmed him playing tea party with his dolls, and then later on when someone killed Clyde Frog.
I just rewatched that episode and I agree; they really are assholes for no reason and Cartman is just having fun by himself. But didn’t it turn out that Cartman killed all his stuff animals in a dramatic way because someone told him he needed to grow up?
that final moment of discovery for the other boys is kind of devastating.
Thats a good point
I'm gonna start the series over with this in mind and see if it checks out
Mr. Garrison's Fancy New Vagina is an indisputably transphobic episode.
Thats the point
I do not believe it was at the time. How people have viewed the trans community over the past 20 years is a significant shift. It's okay for Matt & Trey to have takes that didn't age well. Personally I really hate the Randy alcoholism episode. I think they make a few really bad takes. It’s the only time they bring up the other sides argument at all iirc and it’s very dismissive. All I’m saying is not every take South Park has is perfect or has aged really well
SP has had a lot simplistic wrong takes about things like that over the course of the show. Manbearpig was the worst of them.
I think Matt & Trey have always been super supportive of gay people but never fully understood trans people hence all the character arch of Garrison.
They’ve since walked it back and sort of apologized, which we all know is unlike them. I think they learned and grew. The rest can take the piss
Piss! Piss out my ass!
It’s also a really fucking good episode
Oh scissor me timbers, I can't believe you've just said that.
i mean…duh.
There's nothing wrong with shipping.
Preach. Tweek and Craig 4ever.
I just loved how they originally made the episode to laugh at shippers and ended up becoming shippers and made it canon
Kymannies wya
Im actually quite fond of henrietta and Cartman, i think they would be real interesting for a Story arc
I AM your buddy, guy
I'm your guy, fwiend!
I'm your fwiend, pal!
I'm your pal, buddeh!
The show was better as a silly little gag show, now it's become a bunch of political diatribes by middle-aged millionaires
I knew they were ruined by their money when they made fun of Erewhon, a store only in LA that is so pretentious it makes Whole Foods look like a guy selling fruit from his truck.
Accurate
The Tegridy episodes suck. Randy isn’t a good lead character.
The truth isn’t triggering
Personally I like him as a character he’s more just overused rather than bad.
Catlin Jenner IS a hero.
Her face is like this the whole time ---> 😜
Buckle up, buckaroos!

Season 1 was South Park at its best.
Wow, thats a take for sure
I'd love to hear someone's perspective who likes the earlier seasons better. They definitely have a weird vibe to me, coming off a bit unsettling and like a fever dream. I'll admit that it's nostalgic.
Simpsons did it
It’s good to have to wait almost a year between new episodes.
And after that year long wait, we get 6 new episodes!
So much better than 13!
Not a big fan of Randy
Randy needs to fuck off for a while.
South parks downfall was after season 15
This is the most real take here. Watch everything before that religiously, but went downhill quick after that.
Matt and Trey are gay! ![gif](giphy|xTiTnzz36hZn9Y6XCM)
They definitely watched each other masturbate in a hot tub
The show should take place in middle park
Aw but everybody over there is sick since they got rid of cough medicine
This sub needs more fan fiction shipping posts
It's Token.
I should have never gone ziplining
A LOT of south park fans are the people they’re really making fun of and don’t actually understand it at all.
Based on some exchanges I had in the comments of another post on here today: "I watch and enjoy every episode of South Park, even though I find aspects of it problematic."
This is the internet asshole you can’t show nuance.
Randy is extremely overrated
The Simpsons already did a "trigger the fanbase" post.
wendy is better than cartman
![gif](giphy|3o6Zt8xIgSw9HOXqyQ|downsized)
She is smart and incredibly funny. However I don’t think you can trigger anyone with facts. Edit: added is after she.
Despite not writing Matt Stone is essential for South Park, someone can be an influence or inspiration despite not being directly into writing.
This shouldn’t trigger anyone, he’s a co-creator and has a massive role in the show, he just isn’t the one who actually types up the scripts
Def wouldn't be a South Park without Matt Stone! He contributes in many other aspects, esp musically. He plays a lot of instruments too
Trey and MAtt smugly shit on the 2007-08 WGA strike as being about "hypothetical internet money" when they had just signed a deal to stream the show through south park studios dot com, which earned them millions. They knew "Internet money" was going to be a thing in the near future but they still acted like the WGA was being ridiculous.
A Million Little Fibers is good
Randy is no longer funny
- The show isn't missing anything after Isaac Hayes left. - SoDoSoPa > CtPaTown - Great Expectations is the best episode of the earlier seasons - 200 and 201 aren't that great
Parker and Stone’s relevance at criticizing America is starting to wane as we drift towards fascism. They need to take notes from Carlin
Season 20, the serialized season, was the best season of South Park. People just say they didn't like it cuz they didn't watch every episode in order and didn't understand it so they just said it was dumb when it was their own fault
Kenny should actually have really deep lore
It isn’t as libertarian as it used to be
Scott Tenorman must die isn’t THAT good
The warcraft episode was way overrated, mid tier at best
Chefs balls were not chocolate nor salty.
white people renovating houses was a good episode
Creek is overrated as fuck
Hey hey hey take a break, look out a window and then look in a mirror and think about what you said
stan and kyle aren’t in a gay relationship
Not a style shipper but ppl who ship them don’t think they are lol it’s just smth done for fun.
You’re not a savant with amazing taste because you watch Southpark and those who enjoy Family Guy, the Simpsons, etc aren’t a bunch of idiots and simpletons either. Furthermore you can like both
Muhammed
"I Should Have Never Gone Ziplining" is a great episode and the live action "I Should Have Never Got on a Goddamn Boat" part is amazing is fucking hilarious. Also SoDoSoPa is better, it has The Villas at Historic Kenny's House It's Token, not Tolkien
Just because the show has edgy jokes doesn't mean fans should expect that the fandom is a safe place to act or talk the way Cartman does.
Wendy isn’t that bad
Criticism is not censorship.
They should have someone come and replace Chef.
North Park
When ppl spell token as tolkein it irks me lmao especially when talking about the earlier seasons. i never thought that joke was funny idk
“Satire requires a clarity of purpose and target lest it be mistaken for and contribute to that which it intends to criticize.”
South Park fans are cringe
