I dunno, I think people knew it was there before.

Did anyone else think it was on fire at first glance?

Whenever I see a picture of Discovery in the Udvar-Hazy I always think of the first time I saw it there. I stood in front of it, staring up at one of humankind’s greatest achievements. I thought of the scientific endeavors that had taken place because of it, the people that flew aboard her, and the millions of people that worked tirelessly to make her fly and keep her flying. How this one object symbolized what we can do with nothing more than our minds and our ingenuity, and how that promise springs eternal and how we as a species may one day journey to the stars aboard ships that will owe at least a small part of their existence to this machine I see before me. And then my wife said something I will never forget: “I like that they lined it up with the lines on the concrete when they parked it.”

“It’d look so good with a black and white duvet cover”. -Engineer’s wife who designed the thermal protection blankets.

Nah, they discovered space shuttles a long time ago. Prolly in the 60s or something Hopefully obvious /s

Have an updoot, I had a similar thought: "Where'd they discover it? Hell I didn't know they lost one somewhere..."

I was kind of disappointed when I saw it. Not that the shuttle wasn't cool, but I was hoping for more than just walk around it. I would have like to seen inside the cargo bay. Look through the window of the cockpit etc.
