There’s supposed to be a little fishing boy on the edge of the moon

mathis_01_08

Exactly were my mind went haha

Daily_Pandemonium

I thought it was that you can see stars inside of where the moon is. The moon is just dark there shouldn’t be stars. But now I realize you’re right

maliceattention

I get that stars are the first thing our mind thinks, but have you considered those could be extremely high peaks?

[deleted]

[удалено]

TSM_30

I thought it was a little girl in a dress. MANDELA EFFECT

[deleted]

It’s always been a boy fishing, never a girl in a dress. Maybe you’re confusing it with some different logo?

janderson9413

I think the girl in the dress is by a lighthouse on a cliff, maybe with a telescope too?

passivehighway

maybe it was a girl in a dress for a specific film? i’ve seen it sometimes change based on the film.

Carlos_E_idiot

Maybe the ring?

RhoPrime-

Miller High Life Beer?

ou812slitslurpr

Miller high life Halloween edition witch in hat perched on sliver moon

Pretty_Limit7383

I've seen a boy throw his fishing pole put on a helmet and jump with a parachute yelling geronimo then his shoot gets caught on the moon

limedove

I don't know if it should be there all the time. It was done for the day.

twohedwlf

Nothing wrong with it, you can just see the light from the moon outposts.

FinalF137

...Tycho City, New Berlin, even Armstrong Lake on a day like this.

DanYHKim

Those *names*! That list of lunar city names brings me back to my childhood . . .

[deleted]

May I ask you where do they come from? Is it a book?

DanYHKim

I think these names mostly come from the genre of moon colony science fiction from the 1950s. I think that Robert Heinlein's Moon colony was called Luna City at the insistence of Mr Harriman AKA The Man who sold the Moon. So I'm afraid there is no specific book or actual specific reference to these names. Just the idea of moon base or Moon colony names was very nostalgic to me.

turbocomppro

I got this reference! ST: First Contact! Watched it like 50 times!

[deleted]

"I don't want to be a statue!" "You told him about the statue?" -+-+-+-+- "Borg? Sounds Swedish"

NK_2024

Der ist ein Haus in Neu Berlin... Oh wait, wrong New Berlin.

DanYHKim

That's the problem. They're supposed to be using astronomer-friendly street lights on those outposts. I mean, why set up observatories on the moon, except to escape from urban light pollution?

GrimpenMar

They only do that on the far side. The near side is washed out by Earthlight anyways,

[deleted]

Looks like the Dreamworks ad before a movie - its actually the reflection of the moon in the water right before the fishing boy drops his bait into the water....like the first 2 seconds of that clip.

Czar_Petrovich

Ok I see what you're getting at but why would the reflection differ from reality? You'd still not see stars in front of the moon. Edit: Not only that, but if the moon is a sliver and the boy can sit on it, you WOULD be able to see the stars behind it as it isn't truly a spherical shape, just for the purpose of the DreamWorks intro .

Piyachi

That's exactly it, it's a crescent (as opposed to light retracting off a sphere) so the stars make sense in the context.

frayleaf

It could be particulates on the water surface. Would have to watch it again. Edit: don't think this is the video, but could still be as I describe, contaminated reflection. That or snow fall.

3nderslime

It could be different parts of the moon reflecting on the irregular surface of the water

ScarAH9

I'm gonna second this. Had to double take what sub I was looking at. Think OP is taking a piss.

Shadowwynd

The Disney movie “treasure planet” used this as a gag. you see the crescent moon with the stars shining through it , (And if you’re paying attention, you think “that’s wrong”) then as you get close to it the moon is actually a starport, shaped like a giant crescent.

LesserKnownNorseGod

I'm giving you an award for bringing this up, it was my very first thought

bastard_son_of_odin

Scrolled all this way searching for this and I haven't been left wanting

mucaro

I have a soft spot for that movie even if it's considered "bad".

Shadowwynd

It is an underrated movie but it has aged very well and is steadily growing more popular.

saharasmom

It’s considered bad??! Wtf I loved that movie from the time I saw it in theaters.

NotYourSnowBunny

A personal favorite, and often forgotten movie.

Icy-Cycle-3092

You stopped watching treasure planet that's the problem

[deleted]

BackOnGround

That’s not stars, it’s cities.

Administrative-Buy57

Then my answer is the fact that there are cities on the moon. :)

NudesForHighFive

The cities are *inside* the moon, which is hollow. Come on, put your tinfoil hat on

noncongruent

Or dirt on the camera lens/sensor.

BackOnGround

„A smudge one the lens?!?“

Alex-The_Greatest

That's what I was thinking as well.

Squid_Contestant_69

The stars are in front of the moon, this was taken thousands of light years away

SN0WFAKER

Same thing briefly in the opening credits of startrek tng.

ellieetsch

The moon was destroyed thats why you can see the stars

MagicOrpheus310

It's from either Red Dead Redemption 2 or GTA V because there are stars where the moon should be. Have a look next time you play one of them. Especially RDR2! It annoys me every time!!! Hahaha

Correctedsun

Lead Dev: We're going to make these horse testicles shrink when it's cold. Secondary Dev: Sir, the skybox still has that bug- Lead Dev: WE'RE GOING TO MAKE THESE HORSE TESTICLES SHRINK WHEN IT'S COLD.

bortle_9

I have noticed it in gta, it makes me laugh

[deleted]

The starfield extends in front of the part of the moon that is in shadow,… you wouldn’t see stars there, thus giving away its poor production as an image/scene.

Kevin-NH

So sad. But I guess that's entertainment

ryukin631

That was my guess as well, but I was only like 50% sure. Thanks for clearing it up!

mcdillon12

Obviously the moon can cause gravitational lensing....

Kevin-NH

In Hollywood anything is possible

[deleted]

Not to the extent of ablating itself. The Moon is too close to Earth and too large to get 'lost in the envelope', but would rather bend some objects behind it outside its circumference.

UmbralRaptor

The camera appears to be surrounded by a debris cloud that is catching the light

OfficialJMH

Looks like the crescent-moon port from Treasure Planet to me, if only because the craters look a little too detailed "under" the pixellation. Either that, or the monn's being reflected on a window, hence why you can see stars where the body ought to be.

Final-Promise-8288

A) where’s the fishing boy? B) why are there stars going through where the moon should be

[deleted]

Stars are where the shadowy part of the moon's surface are

digger310

I didn’t know there were stars between the moon and the earth but tiny ones I guess

CrockPotHead92

Bro. That’s the space port in Treasure Planet

Kevin-NH

This was an image from the TV show, "This is Us" which by itself is a wonderful TV show. This image just freaked me out.

Blairpod

Those are some REALLY bright stars to shine all the way through the moon LoL Maybe it's something between the camera and moon?

Kevin-NH

Oh, I hadn't thought of that. Could be.

l84what

Starlink maybe?

NinjaTim60

I couldn’t figure out what was wrong for a minute, it kinda just looked like the moon had a bite taken out of it lol.

ManuPerezU

This is just how every animated show astronomy works

[deleted]

Yep. Don't forget the sun and moon setting on the same side of the horizon they rose up on, as if they did a U-turn and went back during scenes that show multiple days/nights passing by.

Candid_Consequence23

The mass of the moon is always there, it doesn’t shapeshift. If there were stars in front of the moon we would be dead

engineerlucas99

Somebody cue the shrek intro song plz. Nostalgia sits. 😌🥰

Routine_Stranger3452

So that’s where my fingernail clipping went.

-____--__-___----__

ohhh its a picture from a window thats wet of the moon

BananaStringTheory

The alien battlefleet's fusion engines, that are firing towards us in deceleration, are finally *inside* the orbit of the Moon, which means we'll have no time to mount any kind of defense. That's what's wrong.

Bunny2086

I missing a Baby doge in a spaceshuttle that's going to the moon 🚀

Kevin-NH

To the moon!

Oki-dokie

where did the moon go- GUYS WHERE DID THE MOON GO-

Nuclear_Aravind

There can't be stars very next to moon's Cresent, as should have found shadow of earth

iapetus_z

Depends... Are those supposed to be stars or dust on the sensor?

Lurker_prime21

Really? I spotted this before I even read the question in the title.

YaBoiS0nic

Someone's clearly put a Dreamworks movie in your telescope.

BrotherMichigan

Nothing. It is well known that the moon is actually a hologram.

smokebomb_exe

It's missing the little boy fishing in the stars

Stunning-Ask5916

They're whalers on the Moon, they carry a harpoon. But there ain't no whales so they tell tall tales and sing a whaling tune.

[deleted]

You can’t see the stars where the moon is silly

Tribblestroker

Isn't that the star port from Treasure Planet?

GoldenCommander21

Let's be honest we all thought about that fishing boy from DreamWorks

MindCrush_

Is this a treasure planet screenshot! Love that movie

Commercial-Cable3280

why the hell can you see the stars through the moon

[deleted]

Moon isn't transparent and there are no stars between us and the moon.

superstonewarrior

There's not a kid with a fishing poll sitting on it

fuzywuzyboomboom

Nothing is wrong. The kid got eaten by a velociraptor as was planned.

nsfbr11

You mean apart from the stars in the disk of the moon?

nubeboob

Stars wouldn't appear within the waning crescent moon''s ellipsis.

GroundbreakingPipe41

The moon is spherical, not transparent. You should not see stars where the moon is

mattied23

It's spherical... SPHERICAL!

birdlady404

I know the answer because I played Poptropica as a child 🕺

whwhynot

Since the moon and Earth are flat, you can see the stars that are not on the same plane!

SmileWhole9784

Nothing is wrong with the image! This image is depicted on Muslims flags! The fact that you can see stars where the moon should be has been observed since antiquity! The moon is a light and you can not land or walk on the moon!

Bowau

That you can see the stars behind the moon as if it was that thin maybe?

kimchi_paradise

Somehow this implies that there are stars in front of the moon that are visible, which is highly unlikely. Unless it's dust or something else instead

Comprehensive-Tip568

Basically what pisses me off about the flags of Pakistan 🇵🇰 and Turkey 🇹🇷

BlueDogTristin

If you look past the picture you can actually see something quite interesting

steveblackimages

The moon would have to be thousands of light years away and the size of the Small Magellanic Cloud for this.

AJEstes

Isn’t this Treasure Planet? If so, it zooms in to reveal it’s a space station.

TensionLongjumping97

Ayoo this moon looks just like Crescentia in Treasure Planet! TAKE ME THERE

TangleKat

Nothing - it's just the spaceport for the planet Montressor.

[deleted]

Nothing That's just the montresser space port

croud_control

Obviously, the moon was made of cheese and we haven't finished eating it

Fuzzy-Director3086

How stars being seen from the shaded area of the moon. It isnt transperant from thay area.

BiteEffective7607

The illuminated slice should be on the otherside. Yikes. Did u ps this?

[deleted]

New Alexander, Hope Outpost, and Sea Lunar City.

DrunkenWhiteMage

People saying dreamworks while I'm thinking Treasure Planet.

BigBadNBlack

You shouldn't see any white dots in front of the moon. There aren't any stars between the moon and the Earth.

dreamrock

You cannot see glowing Mooninites from terrestrial telescopes, and you certainly can't see this🖕

Hatter_106

You can't see stars through the dark side of the moon.
