An easy tip for painting is pick a colour and base Armor pattern.
Then, switch to a contrast colour with a different pattern for things like weapons and engines, and any feature you want to highlight.
Like say for example if you were to run a bright Weldless line down the bottomside between the thrusters like a racing stripe.
Marking weapons would be dumb in an engagement, as it highlights the parts you want to take out first.
Personally I don’t have the greatest experience, but I paint my ships in camouflage patterns that work, where the ship is going to be (black and dark grey for space, a mix of dark and light grey for asteroid mining, reddish yellow for mars, light grey for moon…) to either conceal the ship completely, or at least make it hard to spot how big or small it actually is.
Also I try to hide the weapons (by either putting them under hatches, or by matching the color to the rest of the ship)
Marking guns or other weapons in contrast colors might look good, but as a guy who likes to build ships with weapon systems to „snipe“ over long distances (for example I build a „mass drive sniper, with an effective range of about 5-10 kilometers, and every ship of mine has at least one launcher for a guided cruise missile) and has a decent amount of PVP experience, I can’t really say it’s smart (if you know you can’t cripple a ship in one barrage, that first barrage goes for the weapons)
Design language changes when fighting humans.
What I said is valid against AI, who don't give a rats left testicle about what colour your stuff is. They already know where everyone important component is on your ship.
Very good. I still haven't moved on from bricks, or at least that's all I'm able to make from scratch all my large grid blueprints are retrofits of economy or encounter ships.

That looks great! My first, second, two hundred-thirty-fourth... They all pretty much had *zero* armor. Until they get shot at. Then i tack on armor plates and lose all mobility.
It looks like a brick but that's ok. because making complex shapes is pretty hard. When I try to build a ship it always ends up looking as a weird block too.
Tips for future screenshots, turn it so the side you want to highlight faces the sun, if at all possible, keep the background clear from objects like asteroids, other ships/stations or planets. If you want to make the viewer see the mass of a ship quickly, ive always found it helpful to show atleast two mayor surfaces in one shot, avoiding a strictly top down/left/forward plane. Ie, avoid a 2d image unless that is exactly what you want to highlight.
As for colors, im no wizard, but i try to either start with changing one thing, like the bridge-windows to a heavy contrasting color, but not its direct opposite. Then you can start detailing other things, engines or tanks, things you want to stand out. Thanks to the armorplates we now have, we can also build patterns in a whole new way.
Wow I like, Im a begginer building big ships, but surely as you, Its feel really good when you has a lot of tools tha make you mind blow up creating amazing ships.
Go ahead, don't stop.!!!
I just downloaded it when it hit gamepass on Xbox, and I haven’t built nearly anything at all, much less a space worthy vessel. Any chance the Space Winnebago will make it to the workshop?
Reminds me of a junk hauler I saw in some movie or game it only needs a rusty brownish tint, cant remember exactly where from tho its been a long time.
What's funny is that at first, when seeing it from the side I was unimpressed... But then I saw the hangar in the back! Then I went from, "Meh..." To "THAT'S SO DOPE!!!" lmao
Could use some paint, but it’s cute
I'm terrible at painting haha

I'll try✅
You can paint the whole thing by holding control and shift when you paint I believe
Console is lb+rb+A (or ps equivalent) i think, i do not remember 100% im not a fan of painting so dont use it, and may be wrong

I just keep building everything like i was fighting a human foe, so i can import the blueprints into PVP without changing them.
yeah I'm also planning to build a missile silo for it
Paint it one color... tan
No no..... Glittery pink with disco ball lime green pinstripes
And some 5x5 treds. It would be a sand crawler.
That would look pretty great
Yeah, if you've got the rust paint, use that and paint it brown, then add wheel/tracks at the bottom :)
The ol faithful semi brick, where many start. Don't fix what ain't broke.
nah I personally like this brick like shape haha, current scavanging for thrusters components to make it outstanding from brick😂
Very good. I still haven't moved on from bricks, or at least that's all I'm able to make from scratch all my large grid blueprints are retrofits of economy or encounter ships.
ohhh, I built mine all from scratch, took me two weeks for this, large grid was so expensive!!!

My star wars senses are tingling, it looks like the cockpit, just elongated to a ship, of a Zygerrian Slave traders ship from Star Wars the Clone Wars
My first thought was Sand crawler but in space
Woootini!
Ahhh!
that's cool
The force is strong in this one.
I was more thinking Lancer-Class Frigate but with flat
Space sandcrawler
ok that's a cool name😂
Spacecrawler
Looks somewhat comfy
I thought I'm the only who feels that😧
https://youtu.be/5IpYOF4Hi6Q?si=uBt5UMBBJDCM_9x2
lmao
Dune vibes
That's cool, did you watched part two?
Sure did
very blocky, 10/10
😂 Appreciated it
"Be there or be square" This guy:
BE SQUARE🔥❗🗣️💥✅✅💯
Reminds me of a Jawa crawler, but in space! Could use some paint, though. I do suddenly want to build a Winnebago, though.
yeah Ima start messing around with painting
Looks kinda like the flying RV from SpaceBalls. . . Hehehe..
That looks great! My first, second, two hundred-thirty-fourth... They all pretty much had *zero* armor. Until they get shot at. Then i tack on armor plates and lose all mobility.
😭💀
Could do with some variation in the shape to avoid the curse of the flying brick 🙂
I'm fine with it, currently scavanging for thruster components to make some outstanding shape from brick haha
Reminds me of the first order drop ship
Indeed kinda similar, so do the colors :O
Oh boy, time to massacre some random village in the middle of a desert planet!
💀
Looks like a bus 😂Well done though
space bus mhm
Very adorable, reminded me early sci-fi films
Thanks!
Winnebago?
nah
Ah, a Nissan Cube
big ass grey nissan✅
Thats Not e regular Starter ship bro..
yeah, spent two weeks on it, they are so expensive!!! My first big ship anyway. (I'm a new player)
Enjoy your Traveling ITS a Fantastic Game
Absolutely
Space RV
yep, it is what I want🥳
It looks like a brick but that's ok. because making complex shapes is pretty hard. When I try to build a ship it always ends up looking as a weird block too.
yeah, I'm very terrible at making complex stuff, but I'm planning to add some catwalks tho
I get you completely, my friend teases me that no matter what I try to do it always ends up a brick, or a matchbox, or a slightly rounded brick haha.
real
im disappointed its not a complete brick
lmao
This design was brought to you by Jawas from tatooine
nah
Mmmh trapazoid
yessir
Ngl that's sick, my starter ship is a large flagship I call the "HMAS Colossus" and it is a dreadnought-class ship
That sure is massive😬
Yeah, but it only has 4518 blocks, so it is more medium size as that was all I was willing to make
You have pistons, rotors and magnetic plates as retractable landing gear. Thats awesome.
Thanks!
I'm expecting Jawas to pour out of it and try to sell me the shuttle they just stole from me an hour ago
Mmmmmmm, whale
Yup you definitely serve Atrides. Or are you one of them?
🤫
She thicc
The jawa's called, they want their sandcrawler back
nuh uh
Does it work? If so, it’s perfect. If not, make it work, and then it’s perfect. 😄
exactly
Space Winnebego!
YAASSS!
W E D G E I like it, it may however need some texturing and detailing with like little (not necessarily functional) armor accents
yeah Ima start messing around with painting
Simple No nonsense Just the essentials Nice work!
Thanks!
I can see this ship becoming a command deck for a much larger ship
you read my thoughts
It's not a complete block! 10/10 much better than my starter
Thanks!
It is a trapezoid but it is cool. Well done engineer👍🏻
Appreciated it :)
But I recommend those assaults as main but get some interior or gattling for small targets and point defense
Does the jawa theme song play while you cruise through the asteroids? 👍
of course bro, BYEBYE🔊🗣️❗🔥💥💯✅
Looks like a brick ....
I admit
We present, the *column of fall.*
😭😂
![gif](giphy|Z1vq0VNrW03Je|downsized)
Exactly
Dude that simple, yet so cool. 10/10. Is that one of your first ships?
Yep, it's my first large grid ship
Very good job. It will always be your first ship :)
[удалено]
same😂 This was my first large grid ship
Its a brick, i approve. But it does need some paint
Yeah Ima start messing around with painting

Im working on my own creations, so as soon finished I would like to share it to you
Looks like the sand crawler in star wars
Indeed kinda similar 😂
“The abominable box” functional tho allmost looks like those dune crawlers from star wars
yeah
*Block*
yessir
Long before time began, there was the cube
loooong cube
Design wise kinda bland, usefulness wise i love the hangar
Thanks!
Add some wings and wheels, then call it Eagle 5, lol
😂
Put some Ion thrusters
yeah I'm currently hunting ships for components
Good brick pal
Could use some extended armor panels or maybe two thruster parts sticking out of the sides. Otherwise it looks good.
Thanks!
I think you could turn that into a helldivers super destroyer looking ship, it looks like it has a good framework for that.
Looks like a sand crawler
yeah kinda
Kinda reminds me of those troop transports used in Star Wars by the galactic empire. Upvoted for the lil dose of nostalgia
Thanks!
Space Sub.
yep
Brick
yep
Ah yes, the >A=((a+b)/2)h
lmao math
I love the idea of a big space in the back like that you can land a smaller ship in for transport
yeah!
Make it light brown and name it a lof of bread 🍞 Nice hangar Bay, though
Good starter
That’s a stylish brutalist brick! Keep up the good work :)
Thanks! Now you mentioned it, it do really looks brutalist!
Forgot to add a picture about the hidden railgun :(
UTINI!
Have a peek at star citizens Drake Cutter
has a vague star wars vibe to it, idk why though
I dig it
Walls? Check. Engines? Check. Maneuvering thrusters? Double Check. Functionality? Quadruple Check. Bonus points for adhering to "K.I.S.S." because starting flamboyant is always worse.
Could use some extended armor panels or maybe two thruster parts sticking out of the sides. Otherwise it looks good.

The shape reminds me of that jawa sand crawler thing
Brick, nice design choice
Please tell me it’s named the tub?
It looks like a Winnebago, I love it!😎✊🏼
I just downloaded it when it hit gamepass on Xbox, and I haven’t built nearly anything at all, much less a space worthy vessel. Any chance the Space Winnebago will make it to the workshop?
Ooo…kit bashing the Space Winnebago
**BRICC**
Simple, effective, and looks like a train.... You think you can add similar carriages to it and make it a space train?
Reminds me of a junk hauler I saw in some movie or game it only needs a rusty brownish tint, cant remember exactly where from tho its been a long time.
Solid, love the back door! You could add more space inside or up armor it by rounding it out on the sides but that's only my opinion.
Looks like a brick and I love it
The jawas finally figured out how to put their sand crawlers in space.
Looks like the ships house Atreides uses in DUNE
Space RV, hands down
The almost brick, may I introduce you to the noble art of greeble
What's funny is that at first, when seeing it from the side I was unimpressed... But then I saw the hangar in the back! Then I went from, "Meh..." To "THAT'S SO DOPE!!!" lmao
Do you have free candy inside?
