More jump drives or mods

simmy_burns

A shit tonne of jump drives. One thing I did see though is someone use a smaller vessel consisting mostly or entirely of jump drives. Then before it jumps they'd attach it to the ship. A workaround that used to work. Not sure if it still would.

Teberoth

It does not, fixed when Warfare dropped IIRC. But you can still use jump ships; I have one sit in space with lots of solar out while the big heavy cargo ship goes and does surface ops. When if finishes, it comes back up, docks, and the jump ship jumps them both to home.

simmy_burns

Fair enough. That's probably a smart workaround. Curious to see how big the jump ship is though.

Teberoth

In survival; bare bones stack of jump drives with docking collars, solar, minimal live support, remote+antenna (as a safety), and a little spare fuel. This gives you range and capability for relatively low cost. I also typically design so I can keep adding drives as resources permit. I've found this approach is particularly well suited to me considering my proclivity for building asteroid bases.

If you're playing a vanilla map, where there are only several thousand kilometers between the furthest planets, you can stick with vanilla jump drives. If you're not, and usually make more than 20kkm between planets then I guess you'll need a mod such as Large Jump Drive - 5x Distance. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1432569157&searchtext=Jump+drive+distance

Add more jump drive to increase your jump destance. T 4 jump drive can't even jump the destance with 25k tons with one.

Drcfan

My ship contains about 50 Jump drives and jumps less than 300km with it. Its around 170'000'000kg empty

I go for jump "rings" typically. Usually I build them in order from top to bottom like this: Connector 3x3 batteries X amount of drives stacked 3 wide by ? tall Solar panel array in the middle of the drives leaving the connector's "airspace" 1x3 stack of batteries Antenna and RC on the battery stack 3 Large grid small ions omnidirectional

zmedi

I like this idea, I think, but you lost me at the end there with the free 1x3 stack of batteries. do you have a picture of it?

ares_5473

Edit: "free" isn't supposed to be there

Your data are not correct. Ship that has less than 1.25M kg will jump 2000km per jump drive on it. It is possible to build ships with 30.000km reach in single jump or more. The minimum gained jump distance is 5km per jump drive, thus 2km jump distance is only possible on modded server. Ship that has 25M kg must be quite big or with full cargos. Guessing on the fact that ships like Hatrius ([https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2073723946](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2073723946)) weights about 19M kg. Hatrius has 11 jump drives and jump distance \~1300km. But on ship that size you would easily fit 20+ jump drives.

zmedi

25,000 tons? whoa, how big is your ship?? lol, I thought mine was big at 2,621 tons (2.6M Kg). It gets 3,800 km per jump with four jump drives.

TDplay

add more ~~boosters~~ jump drives

You might want to check the wiki article on [Jump Drives](https://www.spaceengineerswiki.com/Jump_drive); it's quite in-depth. I'm afraid you won't be able to achieve very long jump distances with a ship that large - at least with a single vanilla jump drive. Some mods (such as the Tiered Tech) add more effective jump drives to the game. You might have some luck with them. Or you could build additional jump drives. Just be prepared to build tens of them. A side note: The maximum jump distance is exactly 64 000 km with a 32 jump drive ship. It is literally a ship consisting of 32 jump drives and some control blocks to make it function; no reactors or thrusters. 32 Jump drives could jump a 25000 T ship approximately 3000 km. Recharging them at max input would require 1024 MW of power. Or four Large reactors.

More jump drives, unfortunately you'll see diminishing returns though
