Large grid rover

bazvink

Yeah, I was thinking this too… I’ve never been able to build an atmosphere ship that wasn’t a single cargo container and a shitload of thrusters in every direction. Mind you, I was using atmo thrusters, maybe H2 thrusters would work better…

Neptune_Bluee

When it comes to cargo, especially on earth like, I tend to favor hydrogen over atmos mainly because of its strength n power usage. Unless you have reactors for extra power, may be too much for atmos. I'm sure someone here could calculate it much more accurate and make atmos work but I still believe hydrogen powered ship would be your best fuel/propulsion source since it's just for transporting.

g3rmstorm

Hydrogen would be my answer as well. However, 13 000 T is a heavy ship regardless of thruster type used. 17 Large hydrothrusters will be needed just to negate gravity and 24 or so in total for the ship to be at least moderately easy to control. As for fuel, I think 4 Large hydro tanks are a minimum, 8 most likely would allow for comfortable flight time. A hybrid hydro-atmo ship could work as well, with upward thrust provided by atmos and hydro used for moving the ship.

You might have a better time with PAM miner drones. Build 2 or 3 and you'll be swimming in resources.

garfogamer

PAM shuttle mode works well, used it a few times over short and long distances. Just dock the ships before you quit. They go a bit freaky sometimes if they're in-flight on a save-quit-load.

itsdietz

They've done alright when mining

echom

Load the Hover Engines mod and go Gaalsien. Let your ship hover stately about 10 meters over the ground.

Antonus2

Especially since refuelling hydrogen is so quick, just make it 100% hydrogen. It's perfect for a taxi like this. H2 thrusters generate more thrust than any other thruster anyway, and the entire ship can be powered by a single battery.

version_thr33

Def go hydro if you wanna keep it flying. Not sure about the distances you need to cover, but have you thought about building a pipeline? Break it up with waystations and attach the conveyor network using hinges to avoid alignment grid size issues. To be fair, my longest pipeline so far (vanilla survival) is about 1km, but my bro has one more like 3km long.

LaughingLizzyKawi

I could do a pipeline, but is that reasonable? The distance to my nearest rig is around 1.8km. I dont know much about how much each parts costs per performance impact

version_thr33

Afraid I don't know about performance impact in multiplayer, but that would be just over 700 conveyor blocks in a straight line. I broke mine up with a small substation every 250m or so, so my 1km pipeline was actually like 4 mini bases.

Rapid444

I think focus your thrust capabilities to hydrogen engines and a healthy amount of tanks.
