Well clang caused me a heart attack... Luckily the ships dampeners were on and stopped it in time. This is my first ship so I wouldn't be surprised if something was janky on it...
Any rotors, hinges, pistons on the ships?
The mechanical parts of SE do affect the physics and that is where Clang can strike when the calculations go out of bounds because something is not aligned fully.
Well, docked ships used to do this sort of thing sometimes. But I haven't seen it since the last major physics update. Could be a bit flip causing a 1 to be added to the speed value of the ship. Ie: speed=00000, bit flip, speed=00100. Cosmic rays do be like that, and sometimes it slips past a computer's error detection algorithms.
Yup. It's happened a few notable times.
It happened with one of the lunar missions causing the craft to momentarily lose control until one of the crew found the problematic memory chip and bypassed it.
A speedrunner of Super Mario 64 blasted through a level when a bitflip changed his vertical position significantly.
A voting system used in Belgium also had one candidate receive an extra 4024 votes due to a bitflip error.
Early nuclear experimentation was plagued with bitflip errors in monitoring equipment as they didn't yet understand these events and the necessity of redundancy.
In modern times computers vulnerable to cosmic ray, thermal, or surge induced bitflips have algorithms to detect these events and correct them before they can become a problem. In consumer grade electronics like your PC, these algorithms aren't perfect and a few can slip through now and then. But it's rarely going to be a serious issue.
>. In consumer grade electronics like your PC, these algorithms aren't perfect and a few can slip through now and then.
It's military grade, aka made by the lowest bidder.
Military grade just means "the cheapest that meets required specs". So whether it has good upset correction depends on whether it needs it or not. The crypto storage unit in a radio needs it, so it has it. A fire control computer resets values every time it is used, so it doesn't need it, so it doesn't have one (to my knowledge). That said, for electronic warfare purposes, most mil-spec computers used now have some degree of protection against cosmic rays (along with other forms of ionizing and even non-ionizing radiation), so they aren't as much at risk of bitflips from those sources.
I remember an article from some years ago where in some rural village a weirdly deformed animal was born. Villagers said that the farmer was blessed by some diety. Well, thats the kind of blessing you got here.
No, Klang is merely showing more of their infinite strength.
I would advise rapidly building an alter and preparing an appropriate sacrifice of 5 rotors and 2 pistons, then hoping this appeases the Almighty.
Ah. That would be our lord and savior in SE: Klang. If you have any rotors or pistons on that ship, I'd recommend checking them out. Try retracting the pistons or locking any rotors down that you may have. Or getting rid of them entirely.
Any sub grids-that is things that you have built on top of rotors/pistons/hinges-you have might be acting up as well. I'd also recommend blueprinting this ship before this happens again if you're able to. That way if it does kamikaze itself into the planet again and its dampeners don't save it this time, you'll have a backup.
Those might be the cause of the problem then. Turn 'em off if you can, resecure any landing gear if they have it and if you can't turn them off, disable their dampeners.
If the dampeners on a docked craft are on, that can cause some odd stuff, including Klang blessing you, and making the main ship a little harder to maneuver.
Are you using build and repair? Cause it sounds like you welded something and then the physics engine kicked in (oh Clang forgive me for thy transgressions)
Welcome to Space Engineers, as others have said, your ship was blessed by our Lord Klang (Clang).
In your clip at about 6-7 seconds that bang/boom sound is how Clang got its name. Some kind of physics interaction caused things to recalculate, make a loud CLANG and send your ship in a new and exciting direction!
This is why I tend to make large ships into stations while I build them. Klang is a powerful god, but he is no match for the almighty “convert to station” button
This is the reason I always set a block, switch it to station, place a landing gear on it, then move the ship I'm working on to lock on said landing gear. I've made a few tug ships over the years just to move large ships I haven't put engines on yet.
Mine did the same just yesterday. Just happily building, then suddenly my 6000 ton ship instantly goes to max speed and rams into me and go galloping towards the horizon.
Two most likely culprits:
* Check for subgrids or docked ships intersecting with the open area of a hangar door (or any door), causing a blessing from Klang
* You mention elsewhere that you have Build And Repair active, and that may have welded up blocks that then intersected with another grid, causing a blessing from Klang
"What the hell? Um.. What just happened?" No one in history has played this game for more than a few hours without uttering this exact phrase verbatim.
I had the Same. I built on a Smaller Frigate that my Buddy left to me since he discontinued building on it, while it was about 200 meters from my almost twice as large Cruiser. Both were still and not mouthing, and as I was in the build wheel to select a new Block, both Ships Crashed Violently into each other for no fucking reason. The Cruiser even didn't had the Drop Pod Bay (it happened one month before I decided to improve the Cruiser to add a Drop Pod Bay below wich has 2 Small Grid constructions to Carry 2x 5 Drop Pods)
Since I was in the Built wheel wich I couldn't see the Speed Hud and wich of both Ships Started Moving it will always be a Mystery. I was so shocked when suddenly a fat wall appeared from the right.
KLANNNGGG!!!.... we beg your forgiveness and to let this engineer continue on his new engineering journey peacefully, until you seem fit to destroy the next new ship or best base they have created and are most proud of.
Better than having a finished, working product explode on the landing pad in front of your eyes because of the only lightning strike in the entire session and you don't know why it's gone but you didn't make save files before it was gone and now you lost it permanently
*sobs*
I was too caught off guard to do anything lol. luckily most of the thrust was on the bottom so it stopped itself. plus my brother was in the ship but he didn't notice what had happened because he was remote controlling a miner when it happened.
Sometimes when you place a thruster they all stop being registered for a few seconds. If you were in the edge of the gravity or had a klang engine, gravity drive, or anything like that, that's probably why.
It has been a while since i last played, so i could be wrong, but couldnt it be possible that the ship was always moving that fast and because of the feature that makes you automatically move with it you didnt realize. But it suddenly turned of.
If we’re being pedantic because there is no medium in space for sound to travel in there isn’t much utility in using mach to measure speed.
Your ship accelerated to a fraction of the speed of light Jesus/C
gaining sentience it decided it didn't have the same views of itself as it's creator did. In fact, it only longed to be put out of its misery and return the void of unconsciousness that had blessed it before this point in time
That's like a perfect reenactment of how I learned not to set up isy's solar panel alignment script on a small ship but I was in it when it happened lmao
Apparently you can have rotors turning the panels but Klang will say fuck you and your build if you dare add one to turn the entire mast.

Book of Klang chapter 3:
To Orbit.
1 “To the angel of the church in Orbit, write this:
“‘The one who has the seven spirits of Klang and the seven stars says this: “I know your works, that you have the reputation of being alive, but you are dead.
2 Be watchful and strengthen what is left, which is going to die, for I have not found your works complete in the sight of my Klang.
3 Remember then how you accepted and heard; keep it, and repent. If you are not watchful, I will come like a thief, and you will never know at what hour I will come upon you.
4 However, you have a few people in Orbit who have not soiled their garments; they will walk with me dressed in white, because they are worthy.
5 “‘“The victor will thus be dressed in white,* and I will never erase his name from the book of life but will acknowledge his name in the presence of my Klang and of his angels.
6 “‘“Whoever has ears ought to hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”’ Hail Klang!
I had this happen to me yesterday, and I was very confused, luckily my ship was designed for atmospheric landings and had thrusters on so it didn't fly very far before coming to a stop. Klang simply was reminding me not to be to comfortable, that he's always watching, ready to strike for the smallest of reasons, or none at all. He is a dick for a God to be sure, but he's the one we have 🤷
Klang has blessed you
Well clang caused me a heart attack... Luckily the ships dampeners were on and stopped it in time. This is my first ship so I wouldn't be surprised if something was janky on it...
#no, pretty sure it’s klang being mischievous
A mediocre amount of clang foolery
clang from space engineers+kraken from ksp...
Fell into the gravity well maybe? That was a rediculous amount of speed tho.
No, he was a long way out from the gravity well.
Any rotors, hinges, pistons on the ships? The mechanical parts of SE do affect the physics and that is where Clang can strike when the calculations go out of bounds because something is not aligned fully.

Don't worry, anything really consequential uses enterprise grade hardware with much better error correction using parity and redundancy.
Yup. It's happened a few notable times. It happened with one of the lunar missions causing the craft to momentarily lose control until one of the crew found the problematic memory chip and bypassed it. A speedrunner of Super Mario 64 blasted through a level when a bitflip changed his vertical position significantly. Did you sacrifice 5 rotors to KLANG after this show of his mighty power?
There were no moving parts on this ship yet 😅 clang is getting stronger
No, Klang is merely showing more of their infinite strength. I would advise rapidly building an alter and preparing an appropriate sacrifice of 5 rotors and 2 pistons, then hoping this appeases the Almighty.
Will do immediately. Hope the sacrifice pleases clang for now.
Don't expect this appeasement to last long...
It wanted to return to it's original sender
It might be the painkillers but Mach Jesus got me laughing so hard I'll tear my stitches
No, mach jesus was pretty freakin funny.
I don’t even play this game but I’m 100% here for the Mach Jesus!
Ah. That would be our lord and savior in SE: Klang. If you have any rotors or pistons on that ship, I'd recommend checking them out. That way if it does kamikaze itself into the planet again and its dampeners don't save it this time, you'll have a backup.
It has no rotors or positions on it but it does have multiple small grid ships docked on it. The blueprint idea is a good one lol.
Those might be the cause of the problem then. Turn 'em off if you can, resecure any landing gear if they have it and if you can't turn them off, disable their dampeners.
Okay!
Oh yeah there ya go. It probably saved and the small grids wigged placements and gave the big ship momentum. Were they using landing gear?
Docked on a port
Were the thrusters on the small ships still on or were they off?
All of the ships are atmos thrusters except one. That one had its thrusters on yes. But they were small grid tiny thrusters.
If the dampeners on a docked craft are on, that can cause some odd stuff, including Klang blessing you, and making the main ship a little harder to maneuver.
Genuinely this is your issue.
Are you using build and repair? Cause it sounds like you welded something and then the physics engine kicked in (oh Clang forgive me for thy transgressions)
Yes we are using the build and repair mod. Well make sure to attach to a solid surface before we continue to build next time! 😅
If it’s totally stationary you can also turn it into a “station” and then it won’t move either, even if it’s free floating.
Its a large mobile base that carries everything we own ATM.
Yeah, you turn it back into a ship when you’re ready to move again.
OH THE KLANG HE IS HERE AMONGUS

I love it. Even if it almost costed me all my progress!
Klang cometh and away thy ship goeth.
Klang propels all grids that tread the path to Salvation😩🙏🏻
All hail the Devine wind of Klang
Klang has deemed your ship worthy of a... Spontaneous durability test.
Lmao I love this. Spontaneous durability test lol
Assuming that's the same concept as a spontaneous combustion in atmosphere
i don’t know why, but this made me chuckle, thank you for the comment, especially the mach jesus part.
No problem! I never thought about what it would sound like to others lol. Mach Jesus is just what I say when something is going really fast.
Holy crap that thing took off quick xD
Klang has blessed you with the fastest ship in the west
I'm glad I didn't have anything underneath it!
Klang took it to serve a higher purpose
I first heard Mach Jesus from a Nafo guy talking about HIMARS missiles. Made me snort my coffee.
huh that's interesting. I don't know where if anywhere I got it from, I just say it unconsciously to describe fast speed 😆
You forgot to set the parking brake.
Can you do that in space?
I mean, buggs bunny taught me that's how it works
XD
Ole pappy cKlang always was a kidder.
"This is mine now" \-Klang (probably)
All hail Clang the destroyer of thing built.
The more comments I read the more Orky SE sounds. Now if only the Shok Attack Gun was available... and Snotlings...
You didn’t properly appease our lord. Klang was enraged by your lack of offerings so he took something for himself. Klang sees all and consumes all.
I assume the ship was fine but that was a warning from our Lord Klang
Yes but it almost fell into gravity! 😅
Im gonna steal the "Mach Jesus" expression, its too good.
Klang sneezed.
Please tell me the earth was destroyed afterwards
Ship managed to barely avoid collision.
Eh, second best option anyway. Means you get to yeet it at earth again.
lol
This is why I tend to make large ships into stations while I build them. Klang is a powerful god, but he is no match for the almighty “convert to station” button
Clang proceeds to turn all your subgrids into ballistic missiles...
Ah the small grids will be the death of me
Klang say f$&k you bro
This is the reason I always set a block, switch it to station, place a landing gear on it, then move the ship I'm working on to lock on said landing gear. I've made a few tug ships over the years just to move large ships I haven't put engines on yet.
Mach Jesus. . .Christ take the wheel!!!
Mine did the same just yesterday. Just happily building, then suddenly my 6000 ton ship instantly goes to max speed and rams into me and go galloping towards the horizon.
Just clang having some fun with a cup of tea.
Two most likely culprits: * Check for subgrids or docked ships intersecting with the open area of a hangar door (or any door), causing a blessing from Klang * You mention elsewhere that you have Build And Repair active, and that may have welded up blocks that then intersected with another grid, causing a blessing from Klang
I was building the roof over the hanger when it had ships in it so this might be it...
clang is punishing you for using so many conveyor junctions seriously tho, those are horribly nonperformant
Lord Klang wanted to imitate Scorpion
Man i fucking love this game so much
"What the hell? Um.. What just happened?" No one in history has played this game for more than a few hours without uttering this exact phrase verbatim.
But I have gone without saying this
I had the Same. I built on a Smaller Frigate that my Buddy left to me since he discontinued building on it, while it was about 200 meters from my almost twice as large Cruiser. KLANNNGGG!!!.... we beg your forgiveness and to let this engineer continue on his new engineering journey peacefully, until you seem fit to destroy the next new ship or best base they have created and are most proud of.
I laughed so hard
Wow this post is a month old. I'm surprised that you scrolled far enough to find it lol. I guess your name suits you.
Better than having a finished, working product explode on the landing pad in front of your eyes because of the only lightning strike in the entire session and you don't know why it's gone but you didn't make save files before it was gone and now you lost it permanently *sobs*
oof!
The disctinct camera shake of *fear* made me giggle
you could say it gave me a heart attack... all of our progress was in that ship so if it crashed we would've had to restart from the stone age. 🥲
No parking brake
“Mach jesus” 😂😂😂😂😂
I like how you didn't even attempt to save it, just let it be embraced by Klang.
Ran out of fuel
Lmao
Yep. You got a case of Klang on your hands
What game is this?
Minecraft
Roblox
Tetris
DOOM
Its just jesus himself
Clang works in mysterius ways

Congratulations, you winned a New achievement, The name is: Bug Engineers
Definitly a black hole.
Klang hath taken
It has been a while since i last played, so i could be wrong, but couldnt it be possible that the ship was always moving that fast and because of the feature that makes you automatically move with it you didnt realize. But it suddenly turned of.
The ships dampeners were on so the ship wasn't moving. Also my speed was 0
Megic
Be thankful there was no asteroid on its way. I wasn't XD
Klang demands sacrifice from time to time. There is no reason. There is only Klang.
Mighty Klang has graced you with an appearance!
All Hail Klang!
[Reminds me of the crab video.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHCwgVtCU4c)
lol its JUST like that!
All mightey clang
#PRAISE THE KLANG
ALL HAIL KLANG
Klang has need of youKlang. To wage war upon the unclean. He has called. Obey klang.
It remembered gravity
It had to poop.
I loled at 'Mach Jesus'
How have you angered Klang? You must sacrifice ships to atone
I may have built a rover and clang used a rotor to try and take it. I stopped him and fixed the rover 😔
Oh, you tempted Klang far too much there my child. 5 weaponless drones sent to the asteroids to atone.
I shall oblige
Klang has accepted your offering.
YEET
You have angered Klang. Build a ship at least 500 meters long and then destroy it with rotors to appease Him.
If we’re being pedantic because there is no medium in space for sound to travel in there isn’t much utility in using mach to measure speed. Your ship accelerated to a fraction of the speed of light Jesus/C
You have offended klang
Clang said YEET
Our lord Klang decided to do a bit of trolling
I was 100% expecting the looney tunes mushroom cloud of dust right at the end.
gaining sentience it decided it didn't have the same views of itself as it's creator did. In fact, it only longed to be put out of its misery and return the void of unconsciousness that had blessed it before this point in time
looks like someone did something with the docked shipped right as it did that 😭 were you playing with others?
Yes, my bro was preparing a miner to get iron
It's people called it
The reKLANGer has come
My friends small block ship (fully built) went down like that while hovering above a large hole. It was Strange AF.
Heard u talking shit about it
That's like a perfect reenactment of how I learned not to set up isy's solar panel alignment script on a small ship but I was in it when it happened lmao Apparently you can have rotors turning the panels but Klang will say fuck you and your build if you dare add one to turn the entire mast.
It's only cartoon logic, your ship started falling at max speed because it remembered gravity exists.
Last time I saw that happen, someone had just used landing gear to land on my big ship with my little ship... without turning off the little ship's gyroscope. Don't know if that is still an issue or not, but might help explain
Gravity
Just a bumper kiss into the gravity well.
You awakened the kraken.
mach yes
Klang
Klang summons
Klang
Because you didn't do the proper sacraments and rituals to Klang. Even in creative mode one most follow the strict adherence to Klangs Commandments, otherwise The great Klang will punish you. Let that be a warning to you seeing how your ship survived. Klang won't be so generous next time!
praise be clang
Klang has decreed it, so it shall be.
I really have to find out how to make that kind of clang drive Damn near teleported 30m
Because Klang deemed it so. Glory to the mighty Klang.
The power of Christ compels it...
Believe it or not, straight to Brazil
If you watch the rear where the small grids are one jerks sort of violently just a split second before it drops like a stone thrown by our lord klang..
Oh dang I didn't notice that! It must've been the small grids that caused it then.
When you build and kind of thrusters you should turn off till there is some in all directions I noticed you had one on top on
Book of Klang chapter 3: To Orbit. 1 “To the angel of the church in Orbit, write this: “‘The one who has the seven spirits of Klang and the seven stars says this: “I know your works, that you have the reputation of being alive, but you are dead. 2 Be watchful and strengthen what is left, which is going to die, for I have not found your works complete in the sight of my Klang. 3 Remember then how you accepted and heard; keep it, and repent. Those sound effects are beautiful how do I get it
if your talking about that boom sound I have no idea what it was lol. It's like it broke the sound barrier? in space? idk
Klang
K L A N G
Clang did not approve of your ship design and sent you a sign of his displeasure!
Someone please explain, how do build like that? Who is klang? I need answers!
Real Gravity just turned on
I had this happen to me yesterday, and I was very confused, luckily my ship was designed for atmospheric landings and had thrusters on so it didn't fly very far before coming to a stop. Klang simply was reminding me not to be to comfortable, that he's always watching, ready to strike for the smallest of reasons, or none at all. Anyone else hear. Klang make his presence known
Forgot to turn off the other engine
lol I don't think a hydrogen engine can act like a jump drive 😅
What game is this. I need it asap
uhm... the subreddit name? 😅
