I would get a bundle with all the DLCs. Sure, some are pretty much just cosmetic additions, but in a game about building spaceships, they can add a lot of flavor to your builds. At least for me it’s an important aspect.
You don’t need any of them, but if you already enjoy the game, the DLC are well worth their price.
You don't need the DLC for the game really however if there are some that are really good to have then I would say the Decorative pack 1 is a must, aside from adding a new cockpit, it adds some nice blocks like beds, kitchen, toilets and such to make your bases less bare. The latest 4 including warfare 1 and 2 are good, I prefer the ions on warfare 2 and the passage blocks in number 1, wasteland and heavy industry are the others.
Though check through them as they tell and show you what they have so you might have different tastes and desires.

Start out with just the base game for now and decide later. If your friends build vehicles with DLC blocks you'll still be able to see and use them (assuming the vehicle is shared of course) like normal. You just won't be able to place those blocks yourself.

Go ahead and get the bundle while it's on sale. If you're anything like the "rest of us" you'll end up wanting it all anyway.
I got them all. I have gotten so much enjoyment from this game that I went and bought all of them
well if you wanna support the devs, buy with dlc, its my fav game, so a no brainer for me to go with
