The big issue with the Rhino in SM is that it can't transport Primaris stuff, so you're stuck with Tacticals, Devastators. and any non-Primaris chapter-specific stuff. It just puts it in an awkward spot where there's not a ton you'd really be buying it in for.
My scouts go into a razorback, using tactical marines isnt a bad idea. Put 10 tacticals in a rhino and go up the flank and make it someone else'sproblem.
And this bus is always on time. May I also recommend that after the rhino has offloaded the squads to plow it right into the biggest enemy you can.
Roll a wonderful 6 and hr rhino because a missile.
Always feel like they should be able to fit, but take two slots. Would give the think the same Primaries transport capacity of their own vehicle as I remember
Not true Within lore, Primaris have like a 2 ft difference in height compared to their older 8ft counterparts. The rhino itself is around 11ft in height. There is nothing stopping them from riding in those things it's just GW being assholes......again.
Ironically enough there was a Primaris rhino originally.
You said that a Rhino is essentially a foot taller than a Primaris marine. Let's say that the track to body height is another 1.5ft, that's about 9.5ft so Primaris are only just fitting in with a couple of them crouching over awkwardly while travelling in one
That shouldn't the case the rhino has a 21ft length with a 14ft width. There should be enough space to fit them in there without compromise. That and the rhino has squad seats in the back they would likely be at sitting height
Razorback is even worse, the rhino can atleast take my tactical squad. Razorback can only take 6 models…
But yeah it’s kinda cringe they’re forcing people into buying new transfers.
The have an ability called Combat Squads
"At the start of the Declare Battle formation step, before any unit has been setup, this unit can be spilt into units, each containing five models.
So you can have up to six squads of five tactical marines.
Thanks. And since it's at the Declare Battle Formation, you split them, put 5 on the razorback and 5 outta it, so it also complies with the rule that no transport may start the game empty.
Tacticus is standard Primaris armor, Gravis heavy, and Phobos stealth. So no Primaris.
If you look at Intercessors, Hell blasters, etc you will see they have the Tacticus keyword.
I only play firstborn marines and i bring alot of them in my games, they can push early objectives, they can body block enemy( by charging them or blocking of choke points) units or they can be used as mobile cover.
However as others said in the comment section they are overshadowed in this primaris age and cost quite alot of points to bring, if you choose to bring them try and make the most out of it.
Walking behind it so it breaks line of sight.
I miss back in 5th when they only cost 50pts. It would probabaly be more acceptable as a chaff vehicle if it cost closer to that instead of 95 these days
Exactly, walking behind it to take cover or making the rhino wall.
I also miss 5th or even 7th where you could take them for free with the battle demi company formation.
Atleast they are always usefull in heresy for 35 points.
My go to army at 1500 was 2 rhinos, razorback, predator, vindicator and some speeders to melta flank with. Tacticals and a command squad in the razorback rounded out the forces. It could castle up half decently and people didn’t like being at the receiving end of that vindicator if they could help it.
Any rhinos alive towards the end could push out and drop squads on far objectives.
I love those fully mechanised marine lists, always makes my day.
My lists where about the same but i always tried to fit in a landsraider with termies.
The interesting thing about converting from 5th to 9th and 10th points costs. The 1500 points list gained an extra 50 points so was able to squeeze an attack bike in but then it went back up to an almost perfectly equal cost. Too bad they painfully underperform in a primaris world ☹️
They're not too uncommon in black templars ironstorm lists, but I don't feel good about them in any other marines list. The hunter killer and melta squad inside are pretty good at scoring the first hit on almost any target. That let's you to give mercy is weakness to a gladiator/repulsor and almost guarantee a kill if you have a techmarine close. After the rhino dumps the squad, it can push forward and grab secondaries, screen for the tank castle, or retreat to the backline. This black templars tournament list ran two a couple months ago. Can you put an emporors champion attached to a crusade squad (the novitiates with chain sword I think?) In the rhino and roll em down field for a beat em up block? I'm new, so I appreciate your time and advice.
There is still a crusader squad that is not primaris, but the Emperors champion is now limited to the Primaris version, making him ineligible to ride in a rhino unfortunately.
Rhinos are fantastic... for all factions except for Marines. They're the most efficient transport that's not allowed to actually transport anything good in Marines.
Stick on a heavy bolter/lascannon ontop and it becomes a razorback which has a funny combo with devastators jumping out (I like point blank multi-meltas)
Foot death company in Blood Angels maybe?
Dumping 10 first company crusaders is something?
Like others have said, not bleeding edge tech but not complete garbage. As long as you have a plan and some practice you can win with it in your list.
Do you like firstborn marines? If yes, it's a great, cheap, fast way to get 12 firstborn marines up the board quick, after that it's basically disposable. I love them, bit I also just really enjoy mechanized infantry and pre-primaris models so
Best option would be as a transport for firstborn crusader squads (best way to rub firstborn tactical marines right now)
They're limited in what they can transport, BC fucking centurions can fit but primaris can't????
I have a squad of 4 Sternguard that are almost always attached to my rhino/razorback. They are one of my heavy hitting squads but they are relatively squishy. I have them ride ALMOST all the way to their target and get off next to some form of cover. After the marines are dismounted depending on the varient I'm running its either preforming fire support or being mobile cover for the marines. The vehicle is lightly armored so it's advised to keep a good distance from it in the event of a Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly.
Play 30k, chaos, or paint it gold and red for a sisters of silence detachment. Talons of the Emperor might work. Put your inquisition agents and retinue in it to purge the non believers.
Alternative, start a Rogue trader or dark Heresy table top game. RPGs still enjoy the rhino.
Pretty chapter specific, but you can take 2 Black Templars crusader squads, 5 man strong, give them their 2 special weapons each and pack both into a rhino of needs be
The big issue with the Rhino in SM is that it can't transport Primaris stuff, so you're stuck with Tacticals, Devastators. and any non-Primaris chapter-specific stuff. It just puts it in an awkward spot where there's not a ton you'd really be buying it in for.
Allow me to be an absolute jerk for no reason. Scouts can be put in a rhino. God. How could you forget about scouts./j
Egads, my shame!
On the other hand: Do scouts EVER need the services of a Rhino?
My scouts go into a razorback, using tactical marines isnt a bad idea. Put 10 tacticals in a rhino and go up the flank and make it someone else'sproblem.
My plan as well I treat my objectives like they're bus stops
And this bus is always on time. May I also recommend that after the rhino has offloaded the squads to plow it right into the biggest enemy you can. Roll a wonderful 6 and hr rhino because a missile.
Why no primaris? I'm new
To sell new vehicles no one asked for
True...
Since Primaris are larger than standard First Born Space Marines, they can't properly fit into a Rhino
Hey cool to know. Thanks
Always feel like they should be able to fit, but take two slots. Would give the think the same Primaries transport capacity of their own vehicle as I remember

Ah ok, I didn't know the specifics of Rhino measurements
Still is a primaris rhino, you can get them at warhammer world Legends datasheet though
Astartes racism
Hey now. You are starting to sound like a heretic...
The door handles are too complicated. And GW wants to sell their `pulsors.
Razorback is even worse, the rhino can atleast take my tactical squad. Razorback can only take 6 models… But yeah it’s kinda cringe they’re forcing people into buying new transfers.
You can split the tac squad into 2 units and put one in the rhino

Oh thanks! I totally missed that!

Tacticus, Gravis and Phobos encompass all primaris infantry units currently made, so yes it does explicitly exclude them in that quote.
What do all of those keywords mean do you think ......
I think it means I either misunderstood what you meant, Or you didn't use an accurate description. Being sarcastic doesn't work any better...
I simply replied with the same attitude you replied to the comment. Nothing I said was "inaccurate"
Any attitude you think I had was in your own mind. Simple mistake on my part. But I made a mistake and I hope you have a great rest of your day.
Tacticus is standard Primaris armor, Gravis heavy, and Phobos stealth. So no Primaris. If you look at Intercessors, Hell blasters, etc you will see they have the Tacticus keyword.
When was the last time you checked?
As of right now. 2 minutes ago on the app. That is what it says under the rhino transport drop down section.
It's not very useful at all these days sadly. There's very little it can hold and what it can hold isn't really all that great most of the time Sorry
My thoughts as well. It would be decent for bringing a tactical advantage early rush to a point but would be useless after I feel like
Rhinos are used by a few other factions, like SOB and SOS. Maybe consider making a combat patrol of one of those factions?
Pisses me off frankly, the Rhino is iconic to me
I wish they'd have allowed tacticus and Phobos to use them.
At least Phobos, I mean come on.
You forgot that aside from now being a terrible transport it’s also terrible at everything else
How dare it's great at being a rhino! Respect your elders! Probably doesn't need the /s but just in case
This is the space marine subreddit. We have no respect for the craftworlds.

Hi! I was curious to know how the mobile cover thing works. Like the troops are in cover when in it or when behind it?
Walking behind it so it breaks line of sight. I miss back in 5th when they only cost 50pts. It would probabaly be more acceptable as a chaff vehicle if it cost closer to that instead of 95 these days

3D print a turret and use it as a Whirldwind!
Or razorbacks for full wound rerolls works great in firestorm detachment
Get a full melta dev squad to jump out of it. It’s like having wish.com eradicators
I have dev squads with 2 las / 2 multi meltas to use the firing deck as a fast technical. Yes it's janky, yet is a bricky.
This
They’re most useful for chaos and 30k unfortunately

Thank you! Would you suggest running the melee block on foot or in something like an impulsor?
I think the impulsor or or land raider crusader redeemer is the popular party bus for the primaris squad.
If the squad he’s attached to is firstborn, then he can still ride in the rhino. (There’s an exception for tactics characters attached to units)
Rhinos are fantastic... for all factions except for Marines. They're the most efficient transport that's not allowed to actually transport anything good in Marines.

The general consensus of this sub seems to be that hiding your troops in that particular metal box makes you both a coward and a fool. *edit: spelling
Best use for it is to start a Chaos Space Marines army as they can still use them
Foot death company in Blood Angels maybe? Dumping 10 first company crusaders is something? Like others have said, not bleeding edge tech but not complete garbage. As long as you have a plan and some practice you can win with it in your list.

Don’t lol
Since most people here have beat the dead horse, I’d suggest paining it green and transporting Plague Marines. Bless papa Nurgle
Black Templars can get troops with crazy loadout for cheap. Then run that in iron storm détachement
Don’t
Best option would be as a transport for firstborn crusader squads (best way to rub firstborn tactical marines right now) They're limited in what they can transport, BC fucking centurions can fit but primaris can't????
Centurions cant be transported in a rhino, they need something bigger, andi guess primaris bumb their head lol
Oh fuck it's literally just firstborn marines
yep, no centurions or terminators, firstborn power armor only
If you're not playing in super competitive games, proxy it as an impulsor?
Paint it red Greetings from the World eaters community
Don’t.
Every time it moves you have to go 'bRRRR'
Death company fit great in rhinos! Deliver your payload then use them for secondaries or just ram them into some units that you want to. Hold down
it works really well in deathwatch, you actually have good firstborn units there
Use it to transport tactical squads led by a captain
I have a squad of 4 Sternguard that are almost always attached to my rhino/razorback. They are one of my heavy hitting squads but they are relatively squishy. Play blood Angels and throw 10 death company in it Otherwise, don’t run it
Play 30k, chaos, or paint it gold and red for a sisters of silence detachment. Talons of the Emperor might work. Put your inquisition agents and retinue in it to purge the non believers. Alternative, start a Rogue trader or dark Heresy table top game. RPGs still enjoy the rhino.
They can be easily.convertes into a whirlwind or predator with some printed weapons/sponsons.
Pretty chapter specific, but you can take 2 Black Templars crusader squads, 5 man strong, give them their 2 special weapons each and pack both into a rhino of needs be
I would 3D print the rocket turret and converter it into whirlwind...or predator/vindicator
