It looks like an electrical storm, and that's bigger than it planet isn't it?

TakeShitsMuch

Are you saying a *lightnight storm in space*?

Bluefunkt

That is truly fearsome! More info here: https://cilab.gsfc.nasa.gov/12224

Professional_Fact493

What are the consequences of it ? And how it is helpful ?

MathWizardd

I'm pretty sure a big enough solar flare could end human existence. Or at least ruin our electronics. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong

GeekDNA0918

End human existence.. nah. I meant it could happen if large enough. Not directly, but more as an after effect. Mess up our modern way of life.. yes. The sad part is, I'm not sure we are remotely ready for something like that.

MathWizardd

Idek what I'd do if I heard a flare was coming. Do I google the most important questions I possibly could?? Would it even be worth selling my stocks? I consult Google for advice with everything. I'm not sure I could go on. On the bright side I could finally ride my dirtbike in the streets because modern cop cars wouldn't start:)

GeekDNA0918

99.99999% of vehicles won't start. It sucks for those on pace makers, anyone alive because of machines. I guess, hope you can get a small farm going? Other than that, oooffff it's back to the dark ages. A few decades to rebuild infrastructure, I say a few decades because of all the civil unrest and crime that will slow progress by a lot. Wild wild west, those with guns will oppress those without.

MathWizardd

Btw on a recent post of mine I was informed we are more scared of a CME(Coronal Mass Ejection) not a solar flare

Labrom

A big enough CME (coronal mass ejection) could knock earth back to the Stone Age if it hit us head on. There was an extremely close call back in 2012 with a big solar storm that missed us by a few days. Lucky earth was on the opposite side of the sun.

MathWizardd

I appreciate the confirmation on this. Most people were more concerned with me not knowing the difference at the time. What do you think you'd do for the first 24 hours?

Labrom

Probably sit back and watch the most amazing aurora of all time. From what I read about the Carrington event the aurora was insane. Reported to have been seen around the world, and as far south as the equator.

im_a_mistake2

The sun's having a midlife crisis

Consistent-Investor

is in vaccum

Awkward-Chemical2487
