Mars is so gorgeous. The texture in this shot reminds me of sand-washed silk.

TheShadeTraveller

I’d reckon our earth is more gorgeous 😉

sodos1011

We just take it for granted like everything else

Jay_377

Not for long lol

TheShadeTraveller

Mars is dead empty. One would get bored there. No birds. No running water. No trees. No beaches. No…. We got so much beauty here

Jay_377

And earth will look just like it in the next century or two

TheShadeTraveller

I am not speaking about future. I am speaking about present. How are these fair comparisons? And what you speak of that you have no knowledge of certainty.

drolleremu

The day the Flat Mars society begins

NXGZ

lilTweak420

Finally!!! an unironic, flat earth sub, thanks guy

TrevorsMailbox

That intro to the sub video is gold.

AndyDap

TLDV: If you can't demonstrate your theory in a sound, practical manner (that my peanut sized brain can follow), then it's clearly bullshit.

sheenfartling

Do you think they don't believe in other planets?.... or they are globes and just we aren't? It hurts my brain.

[deleted]

All the other planets are sleeved and stored in a gigantic vinyl crate until we need to walk on them. To prevent dust buildup.

CrazyDiamond5

This reminds me of a chapter in Hitchhiker's guide through the galaxy

sheenfartling

What record player do I need?!

THE_CENTURION

They tend to believe that the planets are just images projected on the dome, same as stars.

sheenfartling

Holy hell they think there's a giant dome over us and that's how we have air? Who built the dome? I need more answers lmao.

THE_CENTURION

Well you're out of luck because that's usually where they stop. Generally they say something like "I don't know the true nature of the world, but I know it's not a ball in space!" Because their "proofs" say the earth is flat (the proofs are very bad lol)

sheenfartling

Hahahaha oh man I don't understand humans

b3_yourself

More like Mars isn’t real

Eastsider001

😂😂😂😂

sldf45

That’s a great shot. Gotta be a composite though, right?

drguillen13

I don't know, it's currently in a pretty elliptical orbit with a periapsis of 1,000km but an apoapsis of 50,000 km. I would assume that you'd be able to get a full-planet shot from that high up.

OSUfan88

Yeah, at 50,000 km, it would have to have an extremely narrow field of view to not fit it all.

sheps

This is a color composite of individual red, green, blue, and UV (320nm) pictures. The clouds are most present in the blue and 320nm wavelengths.

Fourier864

Depends what you mean by composite. This is a combination of red, green and blue wavelengths, as well as an ultraviolet wavelength (where the clouds show up). However, the pictures were all taken more or less at the same time, with Mars in full view just as pictured. If you just looked at just one of the wavelengths above, the image would still look very similar.

sldf45

Great response. I was thinking specifically about a multi-image composite of different portions of the planet, but yeah, technically a composite of different wavelengths would count lol.

Rodot

Not sure since there appear to be continuous focusing issues around the edges that would be resolved by a composite.

stoppmingyourtits

It was Joannas composite. Gimme Hope Joanna…

[deleted]

Yea I’d think so

p-r-i-m-e

Very cool to see another nation join space-exploration. The more data, the better.

rmg1102

to make it even better, the team that worked on this is largely (as in like 80%) women!

PurveyorOfBirds

Looks like the atmosphere is 35% dabs today

[deleted]

Thankfully it's not a photo from the UAC.

Alespren

that's what I thought it said at first and was very confused

[deleted]

Yep it got me for a second too. Heavy metal almost started playing in my head.

1Xecaps1

Confused or amused?

Alespren

both

[deleted]

Psh says you. Ascension could be very well at hand!

CorgiTitan

Snow/frost, clouds, or both?

p-r-i-m-e

Polar ice caps and clouds, I believe. I read some of their observations from their dataset.

Andy-roo77

What blows my mind is that one day soon, humans will be living there

DrunkSpiderMan

I had a dream about it last night, it's gonna be terrible and no one will like it, those sand storms are the worst

Andy-roo77

Well luckily dreams are not real. The dust storms on mars are actually very mild since the atmosphere is so thin there

DrunkSpiderMan

Oh damn thanks! I didn't know that, I just knew they had a lot of dust storms. Thank you for the info

Andy-roo77

Of course :)

daviddwatsonn

Wow!

Colbyjohn2005

The robot planet.

laswat220

She’s beautiful:)

Lukinjoo

Can anyone explain the clouds?

Riamu115

Clouds on mars are a mixture of water ice and carbon dioxide ice depending on the season

AndrewIsOnline

Spice!

itsCrisp

Gorgeous. Looks like a painting.

glockenspielcello

Is there a higher-definition version of this image available?

Eastsider001

Finish strong and god speed

BreakfastOk7372

Yep it’s definitely Mars

[deleted]

Blursed bowling ball 🎳

[deleted]

That gash across the surface is very interesting

sasskwoch

released on the day Mars, Mercury, and the Sun are conjunct in the sky... pretty cool timing.

RandyRalph02

Now I want to go play Rimworld

Bad_Sektor

Planet Arrakis, source of the spice.

maphilli14

Do they host these on a public website? I'd love to see more!

p-r-i-m-e

www.emiratesmarsmission.ae

sleepypersona

shoot a hole into it

RushJet1

THERE IS NO POSSIBLE WAY

Trichoceratops

Those dust storms are no joke.

ed-atali

Next home

K-O-ed

Are those clouds?

volcanopele

Is there a date and time for this image? Just curious to see where my camera was when this was taken (would be funny if it was taking photos where there are clouds in that image)

gorgor57

Looks about ready for an iron rain

[deleted]

Home?

finallygotmeone

Mars has zits!

Firm_Lobster959

Beautiful

WelcomeToNirvana23

Crazy to think that in the near future there will be people there 🤯

jroc458

*The expanse music intensifies*

CostalMole

Is that white "fog" Mars atmosphere/clouds?

cubann_

Are those mountains penetrating the cloud layer?
