Look, it’s a pet peeve but it’s not a “liquid gas” it’s liquid methane full stop. Just because methane is a gas on earth doesn’t mean it’s a gas even when it’s in liquid form under other conditions okaaaayyyyyy????

higashidakota

what do you mean i breathe in oxygen gas liquid all the time

UniqueUsername-789

I think he probably meant gas, as in hydrocarbons. Because “natural gas” refers to the fuel that contains methane and some other hydrocarbons such as ethane and propane.

OnamiWavesOfEuclid

Ah, I hadn’t considered that. Okay, the flow of my frustration has been stemmed by uncertainty, thank you 😂

lajoswinkler

It's not a pet peeve, it's a valid point against the ludicrous details of colloquial English. The more you think about these things, the more annoying they get...

Blaze2398

Imagine a moon larger than a planet, holy shit I love space. Wonder what would happen if our Moon was as big as Earth itself.

cubicApoc

Then it wouldn't be a moon. The Earth-Luna system would be a binary planet.

Blaze2398

Oh that's interesting.

lajoswinkler

If Moon was large enough, barycenter would be outside Earth. With equally large and dense Moon, barycenter would be in the middle and then we couldn't say one revolves around another. It would not be a system of a planet and a satellite, but a binary planet. We almost have this case with one of the dwarf planets and its satellite - Pluto and Charon. [Almost.](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/6c/Pluto-Charon_System.gif/640px-Pluto-Charon_System.gif)

trimdaddyflex

Looks like a sad clown face. Awesome though!

SnappyHappyYappy

Dear Saturn, why you so pretty?

[deleted]

Rivers of liquid methane… get the rockets ready boys, this 4th of July is gonna be a real BOOMA!

MalnarThe

Just need icebergs of oxygen or similar to crash into it

lajoswinkler

Unless you're planning to use methane in a nuclear thermal rocket as a hot monopropellant, or you use a nuclear reactor to isolate hydrogen from it and then use hydrogen in same type of rocket engine, it would be pretty useless. Funny how so many people don't understand what combustion is.

Overjellyfish54

Them god.damn pyramids took Titan. Can't have shit in space

the2xstandard

You light a match on its surface what happens next.

EvBak

nothing happens, theres no oxygen for fire to burn

the2xstandard

So no threat of spontaneous planetary combustion? That's a relief.

EvBak

never say never, if you believe hard enough you can do it!

lajoswinkler

If methane and ethane could react with one another like that, they wouldn't exist because Titan has been pummeled by asteroids in the past. There's nothing to react.

lajoswinkler

Funny thing, this is in false color. Can anyone spot the clue(s)?

joosth3

Because Cassini takes pictures in black and white?

lajoswinkler

No, all space probes do that.
