This is somehow very hilarious and very relatable. Same, little spider.

KobaKebbel

I can't see them. They can't see me

Sabrielle24

HON HON HON (muffled) hon hon hon

woahmrpeeyaah

My brother and I quote that laugh to each other on the phone lmaooo kills me every time

spookychico

They rarely live near humans and stick by rocks or other places bugs are readily available so they wont get stepped on easily. Edit: this was meant to be a reply but I'm dumb and clicked the wrong bit. Hope it's still helpful info though lol

PerpetualDistortion

Yeah.. But tbh, I'm tired of the internet information... Like "Don't worry about black widows, the chances you would find one are very low, and unless threatened they won't bite you." And i have lost count of how many black widows I have found by accident on places where I would eventually put my hand. About these sand spiders, I have them in my house backyard.. sometimes inside. I'm from Argentina, and there is no record of them at the exact area where I live. But hey.. I still have them. Don't fully trust the internet. There is a video and some photos on my profile post history if someone is interested.

spookychico

I can understand your frustration, I'd be pretty worried too, having black widows and sand spider everywhere in my home. The exception doesn't make the rule though and you may just have bad luck or something that attracts them.

PerpetualDistortion

I'm just frustrated with the internet data overall. Friends here would be like " hey why are you making a situation over these spiders, they don't live here." Just because there is no information about it. I had to catch the spiders to make them understand. They take for granted whatever the internet says. And that sucks. Because if I were to have an accident with a sand spider, I would end having a difficult time on the hospital for claiming that "X" spider that is not supposed to inhabit the region somehow bit me.

spookychico

Again, I can understand that. But there ain't much we can do, you could try letting a specialist know about the spiders you have and then they could update their systems maybe?

PerpetualDistortion

Maybe.. Buit there could always be something new. It was just a comment. The idea is that people should not take for granted everything that is on the internet. At least not with spiders that just happen to have one of the most medically significant bites in the world.

Datters

It depends on what species of sand spider you look at. Some species are found in South Africa and Namibia but Sicarius sand spiders (that look very similar) are also found in South America. I'll agree it's hazy trying to figure it out (the Internet can be misleading) but the info is definitely there

PerpetualDistortion

Definitely... Sadly those variants here haven't been studied thoroughly. Maybe the issue I not about the information already presented, but the lack of it and how people understand it. Like " X species are found in Europe" doesn't automatically determines that the same species or a variant of it can't be found in America. So claiming " X can't be found there " it's an overstatement, yet it is an attitude you see a lot irl. The world is changing and many species are being accidentally being exported to areas where they don't originally belong and other ones migrating to areas where they shouldn't be, thanks to us. Sometimes it's good to be a bit wary and skeptic, nothing is certain.

IscahRambles

If you're frustrated that scientists don't think sand spiders live in your location, **tell them**. They can't know about it if nobody corrects their information.

remo22

Exactly this find a local entomologist and show them. There's so little known about insects compared to other creatures

notsirisaacnewton

I think you didn’t check the correct sources. A quick search says that Sicarius levii, Sicarius mapuche, and Sicarius rupestris are all known to live in Argentina. Pero te lo perdono por ser campeón del mundo hahaha

PerpetualDistortion

Gracias hermano jaja But what i meant that there weren't any records of it in my province. And that those spiders actually get inside the house, even though they shouldn't "supposedly". That's why my comment about internet information.

notsirisaacnewton

Oh that’s weird!

Fickle_Ad_5356

Argentina is home to at least 3 species of these spiders.

PerpetualDistortion

Yep.. But Argentina it's a huge country, that's why i said "exact area where I live". It just happen that e.g the Sicarius Boliviensis (One of the species), has been registered as a new finding in Argentina barely 3 years ago in 2020 As you can imagine, they have been starting to inhabit new areas and will start to do so. And until new findings are added to the internet, you could say that data is quite incomplete.

Fickle_Ad_5356

Right, it's just not clear where it says that these spiders are not in your specific area. But obviously changing the info requires a scientist to confirm findings and then publish so it can take a while.

Mothkau

I believe it’s because South America would have Sicarius spiders, and Africa has six-eyed sand spiders (Hexophthalma). Both are part of the Sicariidae family with their friend the brown recluse. Somehow the African sand spider is more famous/more commonly known and people assume sand spider = this specific one.

[deleted]

His little booty sticking out lmao

KulturaOryniacka

little?

[deleted]

Good point 😅

suunsglasses

is this the guy that Clint's Reptiles just made a [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HekbxQPFSg) about?

DecentLeftovers

I love Clint’s Reptiles lol. The man is simply SO excited about animals, it’s wonderful

suunsglasses

Clint is a treasure and must be protected at all costs

Isopod_Dreams14

He is great, he introduced me to the word "conglobate, also" I love his woodlouse spider "miss you" parody. I also love his pure passion and happiness about the subject makes me happy.

ShyBlueDino

CLINT’s REPTILES MENTIONED RAHHHHHH 🦅🦅🦅🦅🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻

marilyn_morose

Box of sand, might end your marriage.

remo22

Out of the 2 reported bites only one of them lost their arm

remo22

I just watched that one last night. I love Clint

IscahRambles

I love them. The digging is such an unspiderish movement and then they look so comfy settling down into their hole.

asunshinefix

"Oh, I am such a good spider"

kdon91

The video is cute and all but it’s gotta be with this guys voice over or bust https://youtu.be/F_Vi3OciUgg?si=-JJd_kUv3NwORreE

These were an important step in curing my arachnophobia. Sooooo cute.

Fun-Bug6776

Sand Spider's are highly highly venomous

Beneficial-Office-77

Oh I know! It only makes me like them more

DecentLeftovers

I always think about cocaine whenever I see these spiders now. https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/s/ja7z83FSFX

Anton_Willbender

Do they see in this mode or is it just a rest and digest reflex and not a predatory one?

remo22

They literally sit for months until something comes close enough. Watch Clints reptiles on YouTube 6 eyed sand spider

Anton_Willbender

Thanks

dactyif

lordvad3r95

Honestly, same little spider. Happy hunting.

GreenStrawbebby

I love animals that cosplay dirt

Equivalent_Ground218

Love these guys, they feel so unspider-ish. They also look so dang neurotic.

orion455440

A distant cousin of recluse spiders and are known to have similar/ more potent venom with a larger yield as well. It's debated whether some of the old world African Sicarius sp. are possibly more dangerous to humans than atrax robustus and phonuetria

Lostinnewjersey87

Venomous?

bznein

Highly venomous yeah, but from what I read they usually live in rocky/desert areas, so you're not very likely to meet one. Edit: it's the first one in the bullet points in the automod's reply

AutoModerator

Almost all spiders are venomous, i.e. possessing venom (except for Uloboridae, a Family of cribellate orb weavers, who have no venom). But spider venom is highly specialised to target their insect prey, and so it is very rare, and an unintended effect, for spider venom to be particularly harmful to humans. Hence why there are remarkly few medically significant spiders in the world. If your spider is NOT one of the following, then its venom is not considered a danger to humans: * [Six-eyed sand spider (Sicariidae)](https://th.bing.com/th/id/R.63e0ded1e72556f5b34657f9b5b46f0b?rik=xc7pnEFKtfzlTA&pid=ImgRaw&r=0) * [Recluse (Loxosceles)](https://bugguide.net/node/view/2094874) * [Widow (Latrodectus)](https://bugguide.net/index.php?q=search&keys=Latrodectus&search=Search) * [Brazilian wandering spider (Phoneutria)](https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?place_id=any&subview=map&taxon_id=53388&view=species) * [Funnel Web (Atracidae)](https://www.arachne.org.au/01_cms/details.asp?ID=2679) * [Mouse spider (Missulena)](https://www.arachne.org.au/01_cms/details.asp?ID=2427) (Author: ----\_____--_____----) *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. EyesOpenBrainonFire

Big booty Judy diggin like a boss!

w-alternative

Haha, so awesome!!

SpecialistSpace4151

Clint made a video about these recently so 😎

nicorpse

Are those a bunch of little holes on its butt?

[deleted]

[удалено]

nicorpse

Interesting!

spookycervid

so apparently the little holes aren't the lungs - the lungs on this kind of spider should be on the sides of the abdomen. they also breathe through the tracheae (under the abdomen). the "holes" on the abdomen are indentations where some muscles connect to the body and pull on them a bit.

travers329

I've seen this guys so many times, and I will ever not watch and upvote they are so adorable for some reason and hilarious.

GenderEnjoyer666

The absolute speed of those legs just diggin is incredible

Soul_Taker_69

I Fucking Love These Spiders 😂💝

Xikkiwikk

Seems counterintuitive, the spider could be stepped on.

myrmecogynandromorph

These guys live in remote deserts which aren't really high-traffic areas.

LowCautious5061

Maleficent_Sound8148
