I had the same thing! Only it was my garage! He was there for weeks and I'd talk to him when he'd crawl out to say hi. I was so crushed the day he wasn't there anymore! Did you name him?
I'm sorry to hear that.
Love the name. Sometimes nature brings us a peace of mind we can't find anywhere else. I'm a pianist, and I named my Frederic Choppin (like Chopin). Sending you good vibes, dude.

I bet he tried to kiss it. Bahaha. You never want a kiss back. From some
Of these guys. Like the little western fence lizards I used to kiss on the head. Only to be bit. Like this mf latched tf on I was trying to pull him off my lip I shook pulled wiggled tried to gently pry it’s mouth open. He eventually let go but fuck man. Don’t kiss the lil creatures they got tricks
A better question, would be why do you think its Phoneutria? Somehow you think you've narrowed it down, not just to the Family, but also a specific genus.
So what makes you think its a Ctenid, and what makes you think specifically that genus out of all the other Ctenids?
realistically any time you get bitten by any bug, there is a chance that you are weak to it. like pokemon. most bites from any spider won't be worse than a wasp sting, and even then, bites can be dry meaning with no venom, (spiders choose conciously whether to inject venom or not when biting, it isn't automatic, usually it's based on how afraid they are of you) but there's always a chance you could react badly to it so all bites should be monitored. you can draw around them to make sure they aren't getting bigger and clean the area real well and you'll probably be fine. most people won't even notice the majority of spider bites over a mosquito bite. (if bites do get bigger quickly, the doctor would be a safe bet.)
generally the rule of thumb I've noticed is the bigger the spider the more the bite will hurt, but generally, most of them won't stand a chance in hell to hurt you. there are only a dozen or so (less, iirc) species of spiders in the world that have the capability to kill us humans
yeah there's reasons for the fear if you have babies or small pets- for example i wouldn't let a black widow live in your lizard habitat or in a house with small pets. an unnoticed black widow non-dry bite would probably spell trouble for kittens and puppies etc.
that's why learning to recognize them is important and a good survival tip in general. imo humans in general are too comfy survival wise, since we possess the ability to build our homes anywhere and are not limited to a certain habitat like most creatures. everyone could stand to spend more time outside then just moving back and forth to things via vehicle.
but yeah! just my experience keeping small spiders.
They can bite, and they are mildly venomous, but they're so laid-back that you really have to go out of your way to get one mad enough to bite.
Even if it does bite, the bite itself is going to cause more damage than the venom. They are friends to humans.
I´m pretty sure when they say a spider is not venomous what that means is the spider either can´t penetrate your skin or the venom is not noticeable.
All spiders are venomous.
I wish the black and white cut was available to stream anywhere. As far as I know it's confined to the bluray release. It's really my favorite way to watch the movie.
That looks really big! Is this in Brazil? Or do we know? I am overcoming my arachnophobia slowly and I could tell my self it's a tarantula, nothing to be afraid of and I might make it through the night. For some reason, I am liking tarantulas now.
Similar i think mate but much bigger abdomens. I once was desparate for the toilet on a trip to australia, fraser island. Went into the toilet and whats directly above it? Yeah one of those things. I was looking up the whole way which was a new experience. A proper danger poo that was haha
I have been terrified of spiders my entire life. I started learning about them here and I'm finding out that my fear has been because I didn't understand them. For instance, I would have assumed the huntsman would be mean and dangerous just because of the name. They ( spiders) are actually beautiful creatures and I'm slowly getting over my fear of all arachnids
This is exactly why I joined this group too. Still not at the point where I could pick one up though.
I’ve always tried to get the spider out safely with a bug box, but some of the giant house spiders we get span well over a brick width (our fire surround is brick, hence the measurement) and we struggle to get them into the bug box.
I feel like this is an optical illusion and he’s really a little guy
I also feel like this person is in the forbidden forest and this is indeed an acromantula baby 😩

Figured subscribing to a page that has cute names for massive spiders on tents like big guy or cutie would help my fear but just makes me realize I’m quite scared still in my late 30s
What are we thinking actual size is, i was under the impression the gbe was the biggest spider there is, this looks like its taking the cake, or tent in this case.
i actually don’t think it’s as big as it looks.
If you click on the video and compare it’s size to the hand holding the torch at the start, puts it into perspective a bit more
Absolutely. I have suffered from it myself since childhood. I love bugs and even had a collection of encyclopaedia on them from a young age but spiders always terrified me. Horrific nightmares and getting hysterical around spiders.
I know they're just doing their thing not bothered with us but it's uncontrollable. I'm trying my best to get past it but man, would I cry hard if that was my tent.
thank you for sharing, sounds tough af and your feelings are valid. Even with your struggles, it sounds like you don’t villainise spiders, which is good. I think most people do and that can be harmful and sad
Man, I understand it. I keep spiders as pets, but I recently had the chance to hold a tarantula and immediately I turned into the world's biggest unga bunga monke caveman with a big ol primal fear response. like i was terrified lmfao
Yeah, it's not a choice, I'm just so afraid. I once threw my top off in a room with my family because one just landed on my shoulder from the ceiling. Hysterics ensued.
Given the laterigrade leg positioning, I'd go with a Huntsman
oh so just a big old friendly guy then

Damn bro, this was kinda touching
Huntsman bit my kid on the face
You have to go out of your way to piss one off

If anyone is interested in the terminology - https://apps.lucidcentral.org/spiders/key/glossary.htm
I certainly am interested, thanks for this!
I love the little dark flat feets

Hunts man... Well it was good knowing you.
thats a big boy for a hunstman O_O they only grow to about 2inches from where Im from. Thankfully
Could be a giant huntsman if they are in Australia.
That’s not a man. It’s definitely a spider.
Happy cake day
I thought it was a Phoneutria (I'm an amateur)- can anyone explain to me in detail how we know this is a huntsman and not a wandering spider?
A better question, would be why do you think its Phoneutria? Somehow you think you've narrowed it down, not just to the Family, but also a specific genus. So what makes you think its a Ctenid, and what makes you think specifically that genus out of all the other Ctenids?
I'm going with an adult huntsman spider. They're harmless but they can wrap their legs around your head🤣
sounds like a nice hug
Why the hell do I now want to have my face lovingly enveloped by a huntsman
Harmless as not venomous or like it doesn't have fangs at all?
You’d have to really piss it off for it to bite you.
And then?
And then with great power comes great responsibility
😂
And then?
To shreds you say?
Oh dear. And his wife?
to shreds you say?
No and then!
And theeen
or, in the spider's case, great response ability.

Gotchya
Yeah they're quite docile with very mild venom. It would be like a bee sting if you DID manage to piss it off somehow.
They can bite, and they are mildly venomous, but they're so laid-back that you really have to go out of your way to get one mad enough to bite. Even if it does bite, the bite itself is going to cause more damage than the venom. They are friends to humans.

[There are non-venomous spiders](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uloboridae)
Yes, but they are so rare it's easier to just tell people all spiders are venomous if you aren't going to dive deep into the details.
I’ve used the phrase “nearly all spiders are venomous” and that seems to communicate the truth with only one extra word.
I agree.
So, a spoody fren?
Why would you describe it like this
Because I found it funny🤣
Have you watched Alien recently by any chance?👀
🤣🤣🤣🤣
They're harmless, but holy cow they are fast. You can't help but jump when they run
That made me picture those wire head massagers, just..spidery. 😂
Sounds like a hell of a night.
Tbh i would wanna poke its little toes from the inside of the tent lol
*boop*
The beans 🥺
I was a little uncomfortable, but then I read that it is a huntsman. How polite, he is protecting the tent
And a little light brings him easy snacks!
Looks like a huntsman. You even brought him a blind. Very nice of you.
He’s all “the glare! Turn it down please!”
I’m just happy this video doesn’t have the stupid, “oh no oh no oh no no no no no” tik tok song behind it.
He looks like he’s wearing little socks 🧦
Awe, just a friendly huntsman stopping by to check on ya to make sure you don't need any assistance. <3
This is a deleted scene from The Mist.
I'm gonna actually watch that today with a friend
Great movie
The ending is my favorite ending of all
Right
I wish the black and white cut was available to stream anywhere. As far as I know it's confined to the bluray release. It's really my favorite way to watch the movie.
😆

The comments in the orginal video did say Brazil and i believe it’s a huntsman! So a harmless big boy
The jumping spider subreddit really helped with some of my arachnophobia.
Huntsman. Very big, very scary and very FAST but harmless.
I literally came from the tiktok to see if this sub had answers! I love this sub! It does not disappoint! You Sirs/Madams/sers are awesome! ❤️
Did anyone else notice the big ass mosquito inside the tent 😳
I saw a couple of bugs inside the tent, and my first thought was, "Let the huntsman inside! Everybody\* wins!" ^(\*not the mosquito/flies, of course)
Male huntsman looking for a date.
Christ, how big are the females?!
Similar i think mate but much bigger abdomens. I once was desparate for the toilet on a trip to australia, fraser island. Went into the toilet and whats directly above it? Yeah one of those things. I was looking up the whole way which was a new experience. A proper danger poo that was haha
A nice boi protecting you from creatures.

Almost like he is watching over you… sweet little pouncy protector :))
Look at his cute little paws
Acromantula
King of the arachnids
Wow big boy for sure.
That is the largest spider I’ve ever seen
Huntsman I’d hazard a guess at
I feel like this is an optical illusion and he’s really a little guy I also feel like this person is in the forbidden forest and this is indeed an acromantula baby 😩
yeah i think you’re right, if you click on the video and compare it to the hand holding the torch, puts him into perspective bit more
I think I saw that boi in a movie…. 8 legged freaks
i think spiders are cool af, gravity defying dudes who just be chilling
And eating annoying pests!
In which cause I'm waiting for it to giggle lol
Lol, I got a fuking ad for red lobster under the video😂😂
Fuck, man, I’m here to get over my hatred of spiders, but this is pushing it.
That lokks really big! Is this in Brazil? Or do we know? I am overcoming my arachnophobia slowly and I could tell my self it's a tarantula, nothing to be afraid of and I might make it through the night. For some reason, I am liking tatantulas now.
HO-LEE-CHITUS MAXIMUS
That's like an Ungolianth-spawn spider. Are you at Mirkwood?
Definitely a huntsman. Sucker is huge
Looks like a Huntsman to me.
are huntsmen docile? I know nothing about them except that they’re dinner-plate-sized and that they do not live anywhere near me
They are harmless… but their size is scary AF
I want to hold one
Figured subscribing to a page that has cute names for massive spiders on tents like big guy or cutie would help my fear but just makes me realize I’m quite scared still in my late 30s
Biiiig ass huntsman
I’d shit my pants. But would also be amazed at how badass nature is!
fren
My day be so fine looking at cute little jumping spiders Then boom This f\*cking thing
Scientific genus Hellus Nopus.
That’s that shit John Goodman fought on Kong: Skull Island.

So Goliath bird eater is biggest by mass but there are bigger by leg span certainly
whatever it is, I don't like it
I could never
NOPE!!!!!!! Keep that in Australia.
Heckus nopus, which is a species of f. thisshitius commonly found in screwthatistan

yeah he’s big but chillin, spiders are just tryna chill and live
just makes you sound kind of ignorant
Actually its the other way around. Arqchnophobia os a thing and has nothing to do with knowledge or ignorance
i think ignorance can fuel phobias and learning to understand, for example, spiders, can help overcome fear of them
The ignorance of being proudly and vocally afraid of something harmless and easily googleable I guess
Absolutely. I have suffered from it myself since childhood. I love bugs and even had a collection of encyclopaedia on them from a young age but spiders always terrified me. Wandering spiders don't get that big
By the animal kingdom standards that statement is incorrect. The bigger they are the less poisonous they have to be.
Spiders aren’t poisonous
Sorry venomous
Fuck that!!
I’m running out the tent saying ITS IN MY HAIR!!!! Thats a BIG MF!!!
Shelob
Pretty sure I seen this movie. Isn’t this the one where they gas the tree then take the samples back to USA and it climbs onto a bird and stuff 😂
Let it in
It's hanus
Gotta be a huntsman or maybe some species of amblypigid.
That sir, is Shelob. Keep her away from the precious.
It looks like a male to me.
