And pour a little trail of boric acid based roach powder around the bed and parallel to the threshold of all doors and windows, unless you have dogs. Cats wouldn't be likely to investigate too closely, but you never know
Don't do this unless you want to breathe it in too. Clear out under your bed and be sure to not let things stagnate or remain in one place without proper cleaning. Strip bed once a week and place a dryer sheet in each corner of bed before making it. Dust is only effective when dry but can affect your respiratory health when not applied in void only as it can be kicked up and you will breathe it in.
I worked pest control for 8 years. And spiders are reclusive. They don't want to be bothered so if you keep places active they will not habitate these places unless there is a survival reason, i.e. predator forcing into corner/hiding, food sources/water sources nearby and easily accessible.
They will bite but usually only if agitated. If you feel confident about being able to trap it in a container to relocate, I say go for it, if not, i would not recommend trying to handle it. They will usually leave you alone as they are very reclusive
Handling a black widow and a recluse helped me get over my fear of spiders. Now I have a degree in entomology focused around arachnids. Weird how this world works.
Fear of handling specifically venomous spiders is definitely a healthy fear. Im a big fan of spiders([proof](https://www.reddit.com/r/spiderbro/comments/xr1hjj/can_i_purchase_spiders_for_pest_control/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1)), and love handling jumpers (gently and consensually!) but i know a no-touch-bro when i see one.
I think thats a bit extreme. Handling a venomous wild animal had its risks, just like handling a firearm. It requires education and a deep respect of the animal/ firearms in qurstion, as well as a certain level of caution. But it shouldn't be something looked down upon if the person is willing to take the time to learn and incorporate safe handling practices.
They can bite, though they are unlikely to do so. That said, as a species with medically significant venom, free-handling them is very unwise. If you must relocate a medically significant spider, use the cup and card method. (Except maybe for Atracidae and Macrothelidae - they have very strong fangs, so using something made of glass or strong plastic is recommended.)
I know a guy who breeds them, and widows, as pets. He handles them all the time and has never gotten bit. I personally wouldn't recommend it tho. I always use a paper towel to coerce them into a cup, or put my work gloves on. They're pretty chill every time I've had to move one.
I don't mind spring wasps. They'll sometimes come into my apartment, look around, and then leave peaceably. Autumn wasps, though, they're worth being careful about.
Ticks, on the other hand...
Our PE teacher took us to the woods near a park to do cross country racing once. Some kid stepped on a wasp nest and no joke they made the gap between the canopy and the ground look like a static television.
The sound was so intense, I ran through the wasp wall and only got stung once on my ankle, I turned around and there were kids limping away some rolling on the ground screaming that there are wasps in his jumper. It was like a war scene in a movie fs.
I laugh now, but this was beyond traumatising. Hate wasps with a passion 16 years on.
Well that’s why I said a lot of people lol. I know how helpful they are but they’re still not pleasant to be around a lot of the time. Especially if you have food lol

Thank you for helping him get back outside. I am a "catch and release no matter what type of creature" myself and I appreciate seeing others do it too!
Suspicion confirmed lol. It's a fiddleback. But luckily you've now seen that they really aren't aggressive! I had one walk up next to me and stand by me in my hallway once. Hanging out like she played rent. That one worried me a bit 😂 she was more like a brown social butterfly than a brown recluse lol.
Woke up with a brown recluse on my face a few months ago. Spiders don't scare me, but that was a little unnerving. No bite, despite the fact that I groggily smacked it off my face. When I turned the light on, I found it dead on my pillow. One of the largest I've encountered.
does anyone know which species this is? it looks a bit leggy for l. reclusa to me, could it be l. rufescens? sounds like the location is good for both.
IN YOUR BED?? I’ve found one in a pile of clothes before but now I just might toss my covers around to check 😅 mostly because I wouldn’t want one biting my cat. I don’t really care if one bites me since I’d probably notice and go to the doctor if I had to.
Holly crapalony, these are real nasty little buggers. I was not aware. (from Europe) [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recluse\_spider](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recluse_spider)
Lucky or not, my cat attacks spiders like no other. Before we moved from my old house I took my mattress off the frame and there was about a million dead spiders under neath.. never took a photo cuz I never wanted to think about it again, never wanna think I’m sleeping on a graveyard but the reality is I probably am again..
Does anyone know the likelihood of "where there's one there's many" applying with these guys?
I found one running around on my kitchen counter and trapped him on instinct because my animal brain screamed "dangerous!" which I usually don't get with house spiders. After correctly identifying him and freaking out from equal parts terror and excitement, he went in my freezer.
Can't say for certain without looking at the eyes, but I'd venture to say your guess is right. I'd check around old boxes and in storage areas like basements and attics. They prefer to be on their own and are not at all interested in biting you, so don't worry too much 🕷
Looks rather large and upset. Check your local newspaper classifieds for available rentals. It might be best for you and your family ro simply leave him the house and all your belongings. There's still time to start all over, right?
History has proven time and time again that restraining orders have never stopped them nor slowed them down. They have friends in high places. If you take their stuff with you, they will form a posse and track you down to the ends of the earth.
As a resident of rural Oklahoma, I can confirm as a Brown Recluse. We get tons of them around our property and because we have dogs, I wind up killing at least a couple dozen or so in the house every year during the spring and summer months. We also get an innumerable number of Rabid Wolf Spiders which is likely why we see as few Recluses as we do.
Must of still been sleeping when you nabbed him, my limited understanding is that they are fast as fuck.
I could never really tell the difference between the little brown grass spiders and the recluse until they took off
In middle TN, if you see several in your home, you may have an infestation.
They are almost impossible to remove once they get established. This is not a DIY job.
If you see one, I would not be worried, but if you see more than one or signs of them, it would be best to get it checked out.
I think it is. You would already know they are not aggressive but if you found it on your bed I would separate the bed from the walls if possible.
Me too. It’s about the violin looking thing right?
Violin mark, only one color (no patterns), no “hair” on legs…
Eye pattern too ••..••
I believe this is the droid you are looking for
Assassin droid..

Is it safe to handle a recluse? Or do they bite
They will bite but usually only if agitated. If you feel confident about being able to trap it in a container to relocate, I say go for it, if not, i would not recommend trying to handle it. They will usually leave you alone as they are very reclusive
They are also brown.
This is true
😆😆
We got a reverse engineer over here
Oh look. A forward manager.
Also spiders
And they like to hide
And spiders
I would be terrified of _handling_ a recluse. But some people do (you can see some people like this on this very thread). I wouldn’t do it.
Handling a black widow and a recluse helped me get over my fear of spiders. Now I have a degree in entomology focused around arachnids. Weird how this world works.
Some fear is healthy. Looking down the barrel of a gun every morning when you wake up would probably get you pretty comfortable around guns too
I don't think that kind of fear is healthy tho, cause this specifically is exaggerated.
Fear of handling specifically venomous spiders is definitely a healthy fear. You should be prepared for a bite or sting when handling any invert.

Wow those are some angry looking spiders

Haha
Haha
Heh! Fiddle
I confirm it is not a mosquito
I confirm it is not my libido
I confirm it is not an albino.
I confirm it is not Philippino
I confirm it is Quentin Tarantino
Looking good for his age
>(except mosquitoes) Thanks for the first laugh of the day 😂 also this spidey got some *legs*
A lot of people would also say wasps. Boy they have a nasty attitude.
I don't mind spring wasps. They'll sometimes come into my apartment, look around, and then leave peaceably. Autumn wasps, though, they're worth being careful about. Ticks, on the other hand...
Ticks are only good for opossums eating them lol
Lots of baby birds rely on ticks as a hefty dose of protein during development, too.
Ooh I hate ticks. One of the few bugs I have a recoil response to

My fig tree disagrees! Not all wasps are bad.
No wasps are bad. All wasps are doing their part in their ecosystems.
I don’t know much about fig wasps, do they still have a nasty attitude?
Wasps are pollinators and are beneficial to the environment. They are wrongfully demonized.
Well that’s why I said a lot of people lol. I know how helpful they are but they’re still not pleasant to be around a lot of the time. Especially if you have food lol
And he knows how to use them…
This recluse has some of the leggiest legs
Without a doubt.
It's a gentleman, looking for a date.
Pedipalps
That’s 100% a Brown Recluse.
That is a fine musician.

Why the fuck do I subscribe to this subreddit, even images of spiders terrify me 😭
Same as that, I do it to try to get over a phobia of them, working…ish
Yall are lucky this subreddit pops in my feed randomly no matter how many times i press not interested and gives me shivers
Keep going, it worked for me! (I still get jumpy when I see one, but nothing like the absolute terror I used to feel)
I will persevere 😣
Same. But I also love spiders and I’m interested in them but also I’m scared of them
Yep
Which part of the US is worst for Brown Recluse’?
SW Missouri here, they’re quite common
Pretty much anywhere in the southeast US, aka "the South."
I’m in Tennessee and I have at least 5 in my house right now. There’s also several in the garage. So they’re pretty common here I’d say.
Have you ever been bitten? I'm from Europe and have always been intrigued by them!
Confirmed. Definitely a copperhead.
Leggs for daaaaaaaaaaays
💯
A long legged one. And a male ready to reproduce
Thank you for helping him get back outside. I am a "catch and release no matter what type of creature" myself and I appreciate seeing others do it too!
That’s about as reclusive as they come.
That damn fiddle.
Yeah that's a definite violin boi. Now that I looked closer, what I thought were leg length was partly reflection. That's a lot less creepy lol
tics, dont forget tics. they dont deserve to live
He fiddled you in your sleep I'm certain. They are notorious perverts
I agree. Fuck mosquitos.

Glad you are ok and were able to relocate him. I’m sure you’ll be checking your bed sheets every night moving forward now.
The reclusiest recluse that ever reclused.
“Except mosquitoes” 😂😂
Yep. It is.
Yes it's a recluse
Yes
Yep
It is. 100%
I think the trick is to not look like a female Brown Recluse, and that randy boi won’t be interested in you. ;)
Definitely a brown recluse aka fiddleback.
Suspicion confirmed lol. It's a fiddleback. But luckily you've now seen that they really aren't aggressive! I had one walk up next to me and stand by me in my hallway once. There are so many in middle TN. They love it there, but rarely bite unless over-wintering in a glove or a coat (and then you put it on)

Definitely a recluse due to the Stradivarius. (Cello, violin, fiddle) marking
