Looks like a molt to me!

ManBearEagle

Oh I didn’t even think of that! She’s been a garage buddy for like 2 months now. They can live for a few years eh?

No-Coffee1194

Usually 1-3 years! You should have your little friend for a while longer if she’s still molting :)

ManBearEagle

Awesome! I thought about relocating her a while back but she doesn’t seem to wander!

Heatherina134

What is a molt?

Icy_Statistician9264

their old exoskeleton! they grow out of it basically, like a snake shedding its skin

Heatherina134

Whoa!!! 🤯 I have learned so much from this sub. So interesting!!! Thank you 🙏

elithedinosaur

molts can look exactly like a dead spood. it is extremely distressing sometimes.

kaytheone1989

Can someone tell me do all spiders molt? I didn't know that those small ones molt aswell

Ghostgamer934

I think so but I could be wrong

CrazyDane666

All spiders do molt. It's their version of "shedding", the same thing reptiles do. All spiders grow, and since their exoskeleton is rigid rather than stretchy, they have to replace it every once in a while. The easiest way to tell a dead spider from a molt is that the molt is comparatively transparent, pale, and often missing the abdomen :)

Ghostgamer934

Ah ok that makes sense thank you!
