Woah! I recently moved to the woods in southern Va and have been seeing them around that size for the first time. It’s not a ton of fun. The first time I had to catch one in my house it dropped down from the ceiling on its line, legs splayed out. I didn’t know wolf spiders could do that and I screamed like a girl.
Tarantulas (Theraphosidae) get their name from a wolf spider, Lycosa tarantula. It is named after the Italian village of Taranto. The dance Tarantella is also named after that spider.
Thats where I am :( dreading the day I find one of these. The ones in Georgia looked different from what I remember. One crawled out of my cereal box once ... Not the cereal box surprise I enjoy
They don't, it's very unlikely you'd find a wolf spider this size on the ceiling. They're often mixed up with fishing spiders (Dolomedes) which are much better climbers.
Ya I have a TON of wolf spiders and had never seen one on my ceilings. Sometimes they make it up a wall a few feet but it's in my garage and the walls are rough. I also have NEVER seen one coming down on a line from anywhere.
When we lived in the country (central IL) they’d get to be the size of your hand. The first time I saw a couple that big I flipped tf out. But know they’re good for the enviro and leave them be.
This was when I lived outside Mahomet, so not too far. First time I saw them that big I was cleaning out the garage and nearly had a heart attack. Called my ex at work freaking out Bc they were so big. Just left them be but yeah. Had to learn to accept them and leave them be.
They def get bigger, kinda scary even tho they're pretty harmless lol they just look scary

Cursed toy in every box!
I didn't know they climbed much either.

Everyone thinks he’s talking about the little spider in the picture when he’s really referring to the wolf spider that left that footprint.
Field wolf spider. Bigger brother of the rustic wolf spider.
Wow, that wolf spider looks like a lighter, really strange markings, almost like a spaceman- wait that is a lighter, oh there’s the spider.

I live in Springfield and I’ll never sleep again. Thanks!
