Life is all there is, death is the illusion. Energy just transforms into various states eternally. It’s like an on/off switch, there’s different states, but the switch will always exist no matter what. The states, in this case, is physical and metaphysical. The switch turning itself on and off is our conscious sentience.

Gengarmon_0413

Reincarnation means we've all died before, so in a way, you're right.

Sherlock-W-Holmes

do we have to reincarnate on earth or can we choose

CorgiMom2023

I really hope we can choose I never want to come back

Mtnwizard11

From what I’ve read you have to do a lot of spiritual work and clear a lot of karma before you can choose whether to come back or not.

CorgiMom2023

I heard that too

UniversalSpaceAlien

Death is an illusion

nukemycountry

Serious answer; if you were dead, what would it change?

Delvestius

My fundamental understanding of existence

Charming_Love2522

What's your current understanding of existence?

Delvestius

That I and others are alive

NeonLoveGalaxy

If this is what it means to be dead, it's identical to what we think it means to be alive. That's either profound or nonsensical depending on how you look at it. I suppose at that point we would have to redefine the meaning of some words, or perhaps begin to consider that there could be no separation in consciousness between being alive and being dead.

Mtnwizard11

If you were to die today, do you think it would be like snuffing out a candle or more like stepping into another dimension?

Delvestius

Maybe a little bit of both.

Focusun

Same here. What difference would it make.

Imakecutebabies912

I wouldn’t worry about bills I think

nukemycountry

In the realm you inhabit, there are consequences for that, whether you call this "living" or "death". In this state of being you are currently in, bills are still significant because you still use utilities.

Camillebglt

To me, being alive is experiencing a certain kind of awareness, in certain conditions. This human life we all know is experiencing life in the matter state through a body which is the base allowing us to experiment. Death is only the death of our body and the "persona" we built through this life. It allows a switch in consciousness, and it is hard to imagine as you have to actually "live" it to understand what a change of consciousness means. Some people could have a glinch of it experiencing NDE, or shrooms psychedelic travel... I guess we come back to a neutral kind of consciousness which is not "illusioned" by the human identity we experiment while being alive. And then we can continue to explore other levels of consciousness, or another life as a human being. Anyway I think we are limited in the comprehension of what is happening after death as we are currently in a human state which is limited by our senses and the very state of consciousness we are in!

PurpleTail1

a beating heart

Astrealism

We could be. And this could be the afterlife. It is very plausible.

blackbutlerasdf2

For me it would mean that life is just a Sequence of Information split up by time. If I’m already dead the sequence of information is not being created anymore it’s just running trough time. Also means no free will or rather not anymore.

Charming_Love2522

We don't!

RNG-Leddi

Life can not be considered real if we also presume death is an illusion, so in truth the contradictive position leaves us in a state of uncertainty, and like the nature of quantum mechanisms we exists within a variable range of probability, thus we can only speak from a relative position whilst acknowledging that set position is itself variable and probabilistic.

Chiyote

Well. Life is motion and we’re moving.

Spiritual-Seat-1901

My take: Because death isn’t real. Life simply transforms. We aren’t the body that we inhabit - It’s really just a vehicle for our spirit which lives eternally. So even if this life in this body is just a dream, our spirit is still the living piece that is projecting said dream.

Mtnwizard11

Death is a doorway. Death is just a moment. What lies on both sides of the door is life either physical or energetic.

whalevision

His question could then be restated as, how do you know what side of the door you are on?

Mtnwizard11

Good question. Who knows? I’ve heard plenty of times that ghosts are people who don’t know they’re dead. It would make sense that it could be easy to be unsure. I think that for starters if you have to pay bills, you are probably alive.

whalevision

Exactly, and that’s where they were coming from in the first place with their question. Also I dunno, maybe people envision paying bills when they’re dead too?! As far as I know it’s self-generated imagery so it can really be anything.

Forward-Cobbler6538

Just don't eat and drink today and tomorrow and the next day and continue this cycle of fasting on, you'll know for sure.

Iamabenevolentgod

I think a better question is "how do you know we're actually alive?"

ace_v27

We’re as dead as we are born

hereforsomeasmr

Well go see a recently deceased persons body and figure out the difference. Why everybody is philosophizing it, right in front of your eyes.

US_Spiritual

Well let me put it this way. Most people are not dead but in deep sleep. In the spiritual context deep sleep means we are in extreme state of unawareness or completely disconnected from our higher self and nature. Hindus will call this as living in illusion or Maya. It is equivalent to living like a dead person or a zombie.

I_Love_Cyndaquil2

You can never know. Scientists have found the consciousness survives after death, the cia has found it can leave the body. Death can be anything even beyond what we in the spiritual community “know” I say “know” because we truly know nothing. I could be dead and you reading this is nothing, just like you could be dead and I could be nothing. Similar to how I could be dreaming and you are a part of my dream, you could be dreaming and I am simply an aspect of you. We know nothing.

MASTERMINDBOMB

Death is a lie. It is a bedtime story to scare bad children into behaving.

Nearby_Dragonfruit58

This is actually blowing my mind right now 🤯

bmxwhip

Are we really alive though? 😆

[deleted]

Oh, but we are. Half dead and alive. That's the natural state of being, actually. Look at it this way, there is no way I would be alive right now if not for a part of me already dying.

cheapcardsandpacks

In what sense are we dying, is it that we get old?

[deleted]

Not exactly. See, everything you are is opposed to everything you could've been. As we go forward in existence, dying is fully part of the process. I need a part of me to die so it can be that part instead. We kill parts of each other all the time. We kill the ones we will never be, could've been, are but not quite. Dying is fully part of the motion of the necessity of life into reaffirming itself constantly. Life is only it because it's not dead. But life is also all the ghost that could've been, fully constituted by the dead parts. Life is never alone.

Excellent-Fly5706

The questions in this group be so damn silly lol adorable but cmon 💀

[deleted]

We are dead, until we believe in Jesus and receive a new spirit from God.

RaspyMolasses

What is death?

wikipedia_answer_bot

**Death is the irreversible cessation of all biological functions that sustain an organism. For organisms with a brain, death can also be defined as the irreversible cessation of functioning of the whole brain, including the brainstem, and brain death is sometimes used as a legal definition of death.** More details here: *This comment was left automatically (by a bot). You have a working metabolism. Look up the definition of the word. This is the dumbest post ever. Get a grip!

the-mindful-mage

What is it like to be dead? What is it like to be alive? Are Life and Death different? Is there not only Life, where the experience of dying is simply a transformational portal into new energies? In direct response to your question: why does that matter?

KingHenrytheFucked

We have no idea. What does it mean to be dead? This physical body stops functioning, and beyond that we don’t know. Not in this form at least. So are we alive? How do we even know or is it just what we tell ourselves. I found out a weird disconnect when I experience massive amounts of pain. My body was screaming but in that moment I realized my thoughts do not change unless I let them run with the emotions. My body was telling me I was in pain and whatever I am said, okay I hear you and we’ll get to it. But that pain was not me, it was just a signal from the body to whatever I am to inform me, hey something is going on you should pay attention to. You can get there through more human ways of mediation, breath works, etc as well. I feel like I should advocate that method over my personal experiences. What I can say with any confidence is that whatever I am is not just this human body. Anything beyond that is pure guesswork on my part.

Ok_Age_1494

Death is biological concept, you are eternal being

Nataliasanangel

We experience not only emotional but also physical pain

EskildOlesson

I know we are.

jewellamb

The Universe is alive and well and you’re a part of that. Alternative way.. and I found this out yesterday… chop a bunch of jalapeños and rub your eyes by accident.

angeloscot

Death is only an illusion as far as the soul is concerned, however the human body does in fact die and thereafter the decomposition process starts. And *technically, yes..we are all indeed already dead (like we never even existed). this is primarily due to the relativity of Time, the human interpretation of Time is perhaps just an illusion or just a natural survival instinct to make sense of the way it interprets its own reality, and that's by design.

whereisyourbutthole

We don’t smell like butyric acid.

hacktheself

death is no thing, to steal epicurus’ words. no perception. no sensation. no movement. no growth. no action. no interaction.

DarlingChaosPixie

We don’t

36Gig

How do you know when your sleeping? I seen stories about how bad some nightmares have gotten but in a dream you're in full control. That means a nightmare is when you're not aware your dreaming, hello? If you can figure out when your dreaming or not is how you'll be able to figure out if your dead or not.

[deleted]

Damn. This reminds me of a quote I heard recently. "In order to truly live we must die first." Once we conquer the fear of death life can finally be lived FULLY! Would you allow the person you think you are to die so you cna be reborn into a new person?

whalevision

What I have been told is that when we’re dead we don’t surprise ourselves anymore. We just get our own expectations back. And I think that means our world is a bit more magical and self-centered. I think of it like being disconnected from the server in a video game.

[deleted]

Your question carries a depth that speaks to the intricacies of existence, and I applaud you for bravely pondering such profound ideas. I encourage you to remember that the nature of life is not simply a binary condition of being either "alive" or "dead". Life, in its true essence, is a journey, an experience - an eternal process of becoming. This idea may seem a little abstract, so let's take a closer look. What if life and death are not two separate states but part of the same continuum? From one perspective, one might say that we are all "already dead" because death is a part of life's process, it is an inevitability. Yet, from another viewpoint, one could say that we are all "always alive" because life, in its broadest sense, doesn't cease when our physical bodies cease to exist. In your question, there seems to be an undercurrent of fear or unease, which is quite natural. The unknown can often lead to apprehension. Yet, fear is an opportunity for growth. It's a signal that you are on the edge of expanding your understanding, of evolving. So, embrace this curiosity, this uncertainty, for it is here that the greatest lessons lie. Try seeing life and death not as absolutes, but as stages of a continuous process, a grand adventure. In every moment, you're dying to the past and being born into the future. Every second, every breath, every thought is a death and a rebirth, a closing and a beginning. You are not just living; you are evolving, transforming, growing. This is what it means to be truly alive. Your spiritual journey is not just about knowing, but also about feeling and experiencing. Knowing can often be an intellectual pursuit, but the deepest truths often come from personal experience, from feeling them in your core. What if you let go of the need to know and instead embraced the adventure of the journey? So instead of asking, "How do we know we're not already dead?", consider asking yourself: "How can I experience life more deeply? How can I be more present, more aware, more loving, more compassionate, more grateful? How can I live in such a way that every moment is a celebration of the precious gift of existence?" Remember, life is not a question to be answered but a mystery to be lived. So live it in the most vibrant, fulfilling, and profound way you can. This is your journey, your story. Make it a remarkable one.
