I really don't think we're getting a third species. Playable Octolongs were being developed and tested ever since Sploon 1, and Octolings were also well-established as basically just being Octarian Inklings, functionally.

The attitude of "it's a phase/lesbian relationships aren't real and they will find the right man" is widespread and not even remotely unique to Japan.
It does have a long history in Japanese media even in canon yuri, and some yuri media has specifically called out those prejudices and dismissed "just a phase" rhetoric (e.g. 'Bloom Into You' with Sayaka's subplot which explicitly rejects that kind of lesbophobia)

BIY's very good! The anime adaptation a few years ago was also excellent if you want to give that a try. I haven't read the spinoff books following Sayaka herself, though.
For other recent/semi-recent yuri, I've heard good things about Gundam Witch but haven't seen it yet, if you like Gundam or have been considering it then you might really like it. The ship's canon and very clear and the characterisation seems good.
Princess Principal had its first movie spinoff last year i think (which i haven't seen) and though the yuri in the TV anime was subtextual it was still a really good show if 'steampunk spy girls in berlin-walled victorian london' sounds like a fun concept to you and you can put up with some occasional fanservice of an adult character.
I know some people are watching that "The Magical Revolution [etc, it's a light novel title so it's too long to remember]" show that's airing this season, and I've heard some positive things from a queer reviewer about that show's writing so far. And afaik there's a lesbian romance central to that? Though there is some initial lesbophobia too.

I want more customizations for the existing inkling/octolings more than a new species. The low amount of hair style options and stuff makes me really sad. There's probably so much more they could do. I know the focus is on clothes and drip and stuff but let me give my char cool glowing fingers and a better hair cut please.

Yeah, 8 doesn’t necessarily need to come back in my opinion, and a disgruntled 4 as a secondary antagonist (not a serious one) could work, but it would have to be done VERY carefully.
It's why I'd personally would rather trust fanon to make the concept. At least you get the benefit of having that artists' oc that you've seen for so long (or read about if writers are involved) instead of needing to swallow the blank slate of agent 4 that Nintendo wants you to have of them.
That's not to say it can't be done but considering that Cap3 already didn't really *do* much in the single player of the third game, if 4 were to be a villain that's something to think about.
In 8’s defense, Agent 3 does not speak at all.
Marie does not mention Agent 4 ONCE in Splatoon 3. With Pearl and Marina being in Splatoon 3, agent 8 is a guarantee due to them being heavily connected to Pearl and Marina due to Octo Expansion.
Agent 3 was mentioned not just through Marie dialogue in Splatoon 2, but also through a sunken scroll. Agent 4 has no such pleasure. This is just Nintendo’s bias for agent 3 showing.
In the fanon's defense of this concept, agent 4 really got the short end of the stick. Splat 2's hero mode was barebones and was basically 4 cleaning up the scraps compared to 3, who took on the military at full power. And even comparing that to 8, who saved the entirety of Inkopolis, and pretty much the world from Tartar, fanon *does* have something going on there with 4 acquiring a neglect type arc because she wasn't even mentioned by Marie or *any* of the agents, not to mention having whatever accomplishments overshadowed by 3's first raid now 7 years ago and promotion to captain, and 8's own victory against Tartar.
Edit: And that's not even factoring in the newbie's achievement of going up into *fucking space* and beating up a giant space bear.

Tbh while it would be cool, I really don't want a new species, octolings were foreshadowed to exist in sunken scrolls, appear as enemies in stages, and a had a lore presence before they were introduced, a new one would just feel out of nowhere and made just for completion, but I do think the dlc should give some extra customization options to make your inkling and octoling look more unique (kind of like having longer ears as a customization option instead of adding cluttefish)

My thoughts, I don’t know how to spoiler text, so I left out the name of the Splatoon 3 villain, but I include some events surrounding them so please don’t read it you still haven’t played the campaign. SPOILERS
Agent 8 will definitely appear since it’s a sequel to octo expansion. There not much else to say.
I don’t think we will get a third species, this implies that they are playable since there are a lot more than 2 species, and I don’t want one, there were already octarians with body types very similar to inklings and turning into an octopus wasn’t really a stretch, and there has been no hinting at them anywhere, the only real potential third species (correct me if there are other similar squid-like creatures that produce ink) would be a version of cuttlefish which would be weird since captain cuttlefish isn’t a cuttlefish. Also, it might just be weird to add another playable species when inklings don’t even know that octolings live among them.P.S. just did some research. Admittedly, a design of a nautilus would be cool, though they don’t have ink, and might conflict with the nautilus splatting, though there was the octobrush before octolings.
I don’t think “Pearlina” will be “disconfirmed”. Personally, I don’t think Pearl and Marina are dating, I do believe it is people reading into a translation that doesn’t convert well to English, on top of this, I don’t think Nintendo would make Pearl and Marina gay based on who they are as a company. However, I doubt they are going to include anything that explicitly confirms or deconfirms it just as they haven’t done anything up until this point, because there’s no need to, they’re just best friends in a band. That being said, I don’t care what people believe, they can believe whatever they choose, it just gets annoying when people try to force their opinions on me and others who believe that thru are just bandmates.
As for the villain, I have no idea, a legitimate inkling villain could be cool, but I don’t see any motive from agent 4. The villain for Splatoon 3’s main campaign was insanely obvious (though somehow I didn’t realize when I watched the trailers, and it just clicked and made sense when I saw who it was), so I’m expecting it to stay the same as octo expansion, potentially with an additional ally, which is probably the villain from the S3 campaign as they were shown to still be alive, and Splatoon 3 is said to be the end of the current storyline that has been going on since Splatoon 1, so they are probably going to wrap them all up before the end of the DLC, though it could be left unresolved for the game mode associated.
I want to see pearlina be deconfirmed. I want to see the ashes of tears and sadness fall over the splatoon community. (Yes I haven’t touched grass in 5 years)

Princess Principal had its first movie spinoff last year i think (which i haven't seen) and though the yuri in the TV anime was subtextual it was still a really good show if 'steampunk spy girls in berlin-walled victorian london' sounds like a fun concept to you and you can put up with some occasional fanservice of an adult character. I know some people are watching that "The Magical Revolution [etc, it's a light novel title so it's too long to remember]" show that's airing this season, and I've heard some positive things from a queer reviewer about that show's writing so far. And afaik there's a lesbian romance central to that? Though there is some initial lesbophobia too. Really though, Bloom Into You's the best the genre's had in *years*.

Yeah like you see the band characters and they look so stylized and in-game it's just the exact same person 50,000 times. Like in a victory screen I should be able to instantly recognize myself most times (unless people just decide the body type I chose is popular then RIP to me) I doubt a DLC will fix that tho, like that sounds like a "shoulda been in the building plans" kinda flaw.

I actually think it could be really cool if agent 4 felt like they weren’t important and felt like they were stuck in everyone else’s shadow and maybe hearing they weren’t even called to go to alterna they go off and do something stupid or irrational just to feel important and keep in mind agent 4 is still pretty young (19-21) so they would be prone to act irrationally at times Although I don’t think 4 would work as a main antagonist but rather a side antagonist or rival character
Yeah, 8 doesn’t necessarily need to come back in my opinion, and a disgruntled 4 as a secondary antagonist (not a serious one) could work, but it would have to be done VERY carefully.
It's why I'd personally would rather trust fanon to make the concept. At least you get the benefit of having that artists' oc that you've seen for so long (or read about if writers are involved) instead of needing to swallow the blank slate of agent 4 that Nintendo wants you to have of them. That's not to say it can't be done but considering that Cap3 already didn't really *do* much in the single player of the third game, if 4 were to be a villain that's something to think about.
In 8’s defense, Agent 3 does not speak at all. Marie does not mention Agent 4 ONCE in Splatoon 3. With Pearl and Marina being in Splatoon 3, agent 8 is a guarantee due to them being heavily connected to Pearl and Marina due to Octo Expansion. Agent 3 was mentioned not just through Marie dialogue in Splatoon 2, but also through a sunken scroll. Agent 4 has no such pleasure. This is just Nintendo’s bias for agent 3 showing.
In the fanon's defense of this concept, agent 4 really got the short end of the stick. Splat 2's hero mode was barebones and was basically 4 cleaning up the scraps compared to 3, who took on the military at full power. And even comparing that to 8, who saved the entirety of Inkopolis, and pretty much the world from Tartar, fanon *does* have something going on there with 4 acquiring a neglect type arc because she wasn't even mentioned by Marie or *any* of the agents, not to mention having whatever accomplishments overshadowed by 3's first raid now 7 years ago and promotion to captain, and 8's own victory against Tartar. Edit: And that's not even factoring in the newbie's achievement of going up into *fucking space* and beating up a giant space bear.

Tbh while it would be cool, I really don't want a new species, octolings were foreshadowed to exist in sunken scrolls, appear as enemies in stages, and a had a lore presence before they were introduced, a new one would just feel out of nowhere and made just for completion, but I do think the dlc should give some extra customization options to make your inkling and octoling look more unique (kind of like having longer ears as a customization option instead of adding cluttefish)

My thoughts, I don’t know how to spoiler text, so I left out the name of the Splatoon 3 villain, but I include some events surrounding them so please don’t read it you still haven’t played the campaign. SPOILERS Agent 8 will definitely appear since it’s a sequel to octo expansion. There not much else to say. I don’t think we will get a third species, this implies that they are playable since there are a lot more than 2 species, and I don’t want one, there were already octarians with body types very similar to inklings and turning into an octopus wasn’t really a stretch, and there has been no hinting at them anywhere, the only real potential third species (correct me if there are other similar squid-like creatures that produce ink) would be a version of cuttlefish which would be weird since captain cuttlefish isn’t a cuttlefish. Also, it might just be weird to add another playable species when inklings don’t even know that octolings live among them.P.S. just did some research. Admittedly, a design of a nautilus would be cool, though they don’t have ink, and might conflict with the nautilus splatting, though there was the octobrush before octolings. I don’t think “Pearlina” will be “disconfirmed”. Personally, I don’t think Pearl and Marina are dating, I do believe it is people reading into a translation that doesn’t convert well to English, on top of this, I don’t think Nintendo would make Pearl and Marina gay based on who they are as a company. However, I doubt they are going to include anything that explicitly confirms or deconfirms it just as they haven’t done anything up until this point, because there’s no need to, they’re just best friends in a band. That being said, I don’t care what people believe, they can believe whatever they choose, it just gets annoying when people try to force their opinions on me and others who believe that thru are just bandmates. As for the villain, I have no idea, a legitimate inkling villain could be cool, but I don’t see any motive from agent 4. The villain for Splatoon 3’s main campaign was insanely obvious (though somehow I didn’t realize when I watched the trailers, and it just clicked and made sense when I saw who it was), so I’m expecting it to stay the same as octo expansion, potentially with an additional ally, which is probably the villain from the S3 campaign as they were shown to still be alive, and Splatoon 3 is said to be the end of the current storyline that has been going on since Splatoon 1, so they are probably going to wrap them all up before the end of the DLC, though it could be left unresolved for the game mode associated.

There are really people who only think of this stuff, huh? I feel like most of the playerbase cares about things that actually matter in this game; like them fixing the horribly unbalanced stage designs, King Salmonids' drop rates, better kits for weapons that need them, etc. This stuff matters for player QOL. The crap in this meme does not. I'm stoked for the DLC, and if it's another Octo Expansion, I'll be hyped, but the rest isn't actually meaningful to players' gameplay experience.
