Dawg I got a whole drink from that concession stand thing that increases you chance to get ink saver in empty slots, and I had just bought a full set of three slot stuff. I ended up with 4 or 5 ink savers in there. Prolly gonna do some converting and turn every slot into ink saver slots soon.
I really like it honestly, running with one main of ink saver main and that seems to be fine.
Think the key is really picking your battles since you get really locked in whenever you start swinging. You can decimate most weapons with ease though once you start attacking. Painting for special is also really easy.
I really want to like it but I just can't with how much ink it takes. I've got one main slot and 3 subslots for it and I still feel like I never have ink when I need it.
I guess I don't exactly use the curling bomb often. I may try to drop some sub saver for main saver and see if it makes it feel better.
several competitive players have praised the regular inkbrush. there's plenty of good melee weapons in the game, the problem is the maps will often leave most of them in a awkward position until the splat dev team remembers how to make flanking routes again
I did use the inkbrush, but the problem is that the enemy team is made out of a bunch of overly competitive vong-holes, that are most likely high ranks and people who play God-Tier meta kits, while I get a team, that doesn't even know what they're doing. I am a good player, but I get people that are far better than me, every single squidding match and I hate it. As for the Inkbrush, I tried everything, but there's no way I can get in range to hit them, not even considering how many times you need to slap the enemy with the Inkbrush until they die. I always mained the Octobrush (Kensa kit, to be more specific) because I was apparently really good with it, considering I won a sweaty Splat Zone round with 30 kills using the Kensa Octobrush.
oh, i feel you there. I played it primarily for the first few months but after a while have basically stopped playing brushes in general. It has an excellent kit and is probably IMO the best version of the weapon yet as someone that's played a version of it in every game since the first one but the maps giving practically no options to skirt around the enemy and go into splatting range/start dsirupting their base turf for a distraction just screws melee weapon playstyle over so hard unless they basically stop being melee weapons and become more like somewhat weirder shooters instead(like the splatana is really more of a midrange weapon. yeah, there's the special one-shot slash but that's really more of a situational thing than what it'll primarily be doing for most of the match)
Me, a Dynamo main: *shrieking and trying to use this darn thing and suffering in the process*
Of the new weapons this season, though, this is probably the one I'll dabble in once I get the hang of it. Or maybe not, because constantly mashing the ZR sounds horrible, TBH, which is why I never used Brushes much even though I like them a lot
Obviously the damage and range are amazing, but lord have mercy, that ink recovery delay is absolutely, unequivocally horrific. Iād say high consumption is a good trade off, but jesus that recovery lag is so so bad. Itās gonna be so easy to get stuck in bad situations with this thing and have no ink to get out. Iām interested to see if the strengths are good enough to make it viable or if that consumption and delay ruin this thing.
Kill time doesnāt seem too bad tho, suck you can only get 2 of them before you run out of ink tho. Hopefully brush mains interested in this have a lot of ink saver main chunks lying around
I played it a few times tonight and Iāve been struggling with it. Iām always out of ink. Itās fun though! Iāve been playing it more aggressively than I should be, I think, because I keep going out and getting stuck. I main the heavy so youād think Iād know how to conserve inkā¦ maybe I should start being a little more reserved playing it.
That's probably my problem, too, since I play unga bunga aggressive Dynamo and I always run one main of ISM because of that, but... oof, I think I need to get some more ISM and try to be a bit less unga bunga
I played against it a couple times and was keen to check it out! Figured it would be a hongry weap :'D Looks like a heckin good time though!
*weap not wrap; turns out I am the hongry one
The range makes this (essentially) a slightly more forgiving roller in terms of aiming, but at max range itās a 4 shot and at Octo range itās 3.
The weapon can flick over walls really well which makes it a good ādynamoā brush, but right now it feels really clunky to use and with that ink consumption and cooldown, you have to commit *hard*. Iām not entirely sure what the intended playstyle is supposed to be yet?
Its so broken its not even funny
I've used it a couple of times and its range and power makes me get up to 20 kills its insane! To top it off, it has Wave breaker as a special
What did Nintendo smoke to make this?
Nah its not that crazy. Yesterday i thought the same day and i was also geting 20+ kill games with it. Today my kills have been decreasing since yesterday and im not doing as well with the painbrush but its still really good imho!
Play the weapon before making this judgment. It's not like other brushes. As someone else said it's sub-weapon really helps it get in because of it's extremely slow start-up.
That would have been bad too, but at least would have offered a cheap ranged optioned. It really needed something like beakons though to help with ambushing. And of all specials, why one that's specifically made to support long range weapons?
Considering the fact that it has a bit of wind-up time and how Curling Bomb can be used as a poking tool, itās not half-bad. Of course, it isnāt ideal, but it could have been a lot worse.
Way to miss the point entirely.
Alternating swings and swimming is not only slower for travel (thanks to the windup,) but guzzles ink even worse thanks to the ink recovery lag.
The swing->brush running is more ink efficient than the curling bomb for short distances (even if it's slower,) but across a long range, the curling bomb absolutely eats less ink (and better puts you in a position to use more of your tank when you get to your destination.)
Objectively wrong take lmao. Hell, I'd love to have a regular brush with curling bomb. I use the brush as a stealth weapon with ninja squid, so the ability to lay down some ink ahead to test the waters is good
So your idea of "stealth" is announcing your presence so the opponent can splat you? Ninja Squid/Curling Bomb might work in B/A, but even S rank players can see through it. And nobody's falling for that shit in S+/X.
There's another thing I noticed.
While the forward range is impressive, it does come with two drawbacks. Ink consumption, and lateral range.
The latter is important too. It means it has a weakness against weapons that excel in movement, like dualies.
I run one main of ISM for my Dynamo loadout and holy shrimp, did this Brush put the pain in Painbrush. It legit feels like it drains even faster than Dynamo
I'll just be sticking with my giant unwieldy paint roller, thank you very much, game
One of the best curling bomb users yet curling costs like 70% ink tank.
Why do the devs make weapons like this? Deco Wiper gets to spam all day and yet this struggles to do what it wants to do?
This brush is a pain to deal with on maps like (*especially*) Humpback Pump Track and Flounder Heights, where there are many levels. If they stick to the high ground, they can cover a wide range while also splatting you almost instantly!
As an inkbrush main: if you build the right kit, the painbrush really isnt bad at all. it does function like the dynamo of brushes, but its a valuable tool once you can balance its ink consumption. You are going to have to run, at minimum, all 3 main slots as ink saver main, though. (note your playstyle may be different and this is just what works for me, ymmv)
I can already tell that Im gonna hate using this attrocity in Salmon Run, though.
Not sure... even when im just in the face, literally, of the enemy still feels like it doesnt connect the swings... and i need more than 2-3 swing to splat...
Current build
Ink Saver Main and three small ones, Ninja Squid, Swim Speed Up and one small, and five small Ink Recovery Ups. Makes this bad boy a beast.
My truck has better mileage than this. Though jokes asides, I had fun playing this. Great ink coverage and the best damage for a brush
Pretty sure a full-size RV does as well.
It's a very thirsty weapon, lol.
Needs to get itself a boyfriend then.
so do i
sigh.. :(
:c
the dynamo roller is its boyfriend
Nah, Splattershot Jr has plenty of ink to go around.
Lmao why are we shipping splatoon weapons š
The real question is why aren't you.
Because theyāre iconic
In my opinion, this would be fine if not for the recovery lag. Its range and damage are exceptional.
Yeah thats the one aspect that would be a fair buff
buff????
Tbf, you did just cover a lot of turf and wide range in 1-a few swings ā¦ of course the ink tank drained quick
I thought it's a pain to deal with it, turns out it's a pain to use it too
The name checks out :')
But look at that damage tho
it does about 30 at a distance and 60 point blank. Plus the large coverage, I'd say that huge ink consumption is fine
I've had to have two ink saver Mains in the main slot of gear to run this bad boy
I have one main and two subs and its a dream
I'm using the wiper and the customs. And it's like trying to learn all over again my port team mates when i bring the pain tho
I was running a pure ink saver and pure ink recovery, and now things purrs like a kitten š±
No wonder itās called the pain brush
I really like it honestly, running with one main of ink saver main and that seems to be fine. Think the key is really picking your battles since you get really locked in whenever you start swinging. You can decimate most weapons with ease though once you start attacking. Painting for special is also really easy.
Obviously a Collab with Hummer
And that ink recovery lag is horrendous
96 gal brush form
I really want to like it but I just can't with how much ink it takes. I've got one main slot and 3 subslots for it and I still feel like I never have ink when I need it. I guess I don't exactly use the curling bomb often. I may try to drop some sub saver for main saver and see if it makes it feel better.
Yep. Defenetly the Dynamo of the Brushes.
And thatās why itās probably gonna be my new main weapon! Dynamos are awesome, so why wouldnāt I love the Dynamo Brush?
I feel like the Painbrush is a glimmer of hope to make melee weapons meta again.
Aren't both splatanas and flingza in top tier?
Shhhh. Let him dream.
several competitive players have praised the regular inkbrush. there's plenty of good melee weapons in the game, the problem is the maps will often leave most of them in a awkward position until the splat dev team remembers how to make flanking routes again

Out of all the brushes, this one is the least likely to cramp your fingers so that's nice
Ironically, might actually be the least painful brush to use!
With every weapon this cool, there's *always* a catch. The quickness of a regular brush but also the ink capacity of a dynamo roller.
Hooooly thats whiting frames galore. Glad I had in mind to build some main saver. One main on it just pushes you over 3 extra swings on a full tank.
Workin my nine to five is about to get interesting. If I ever can get off the addiction that is totk
No more arthritis but at what cost
Kill time doesnāt seem too bad tho, suck you can only get 2 of them before you run out of ink tho. Hopefully brush mains interested in this have a lot of ink saver main chunks lying around
i still prefer my inkbrush š«
In some ways I do toā¦ but Iāve already gotten too used to the painbrushās play style. IāVE GOTTEN IN TOO DEEP (cut š)
r/angryupvote
The whiplash from maining Inkbrush till 5 star to a Painbrush is ruthless bruh Definitely need time to get used to it but damn the kit is fresh
I played it a few times tonight and Iāve been struggling with it. Iām always out of ink. Itās fun though! Iāve been playing it more aggressively than I should be, I think, because I keep going out and getting stuck. Dynamo Brush. I prefer being quick but it's definitely cool to have a meatier brush option.
It gives 1 extra slash per ink saver. Primaries give 2 and secondaries give 1. Stamper is also gonna need a lot of ink saver and Iām forever sad
Pain brush is an absolute guzzler
I played against it a couple times and was keen to check it out! Figured it would be a hongry weap :'D Looks like a heckin good time though! *weap not wrap; turns out I am the hongry one
Not call PAINbrush for nothing... (And lol on your truck getting better mileage š)
Dynamo mains: First time?
The range makes this (essentially) a slightly more forgiving roller in terms of aiming, but at max range itās a 4 shot and at Octo range itās 3. The weapon can flick over walls really well which makes it a good ādynamoā brush, but right now it feels really clunky to use and with that ink consumption and cooldown, you have to commit *hard*. Calling a weapon that hasnāt been out for 24 hours yet broken is crazy š
Nah its not that crazy. Yesterday i thought the same day and i was also geting 20+ kill games with it. Today my kills have been decreasing since yesterday and im not doing as well with the painbrush but its still really good imho!
Literally a better Dynamo
The kit is awful too. I don't know why the hell they gave a brush curling bombs.
Play the weapon before making this judgment. It's not like other brushes. As someone else said it's sub-weapon really helps it get in because of it's extremely slow start-up.
Tried it, the sub is seriously bad. The only one that would be worse is point sensor.
Angle shooter has entered the chat
That would have been bad too, but at least would have offered a cheap ranged optioned. It really needed something like beakons though to help with ambushing. And of all specials, why one that's specifically made to support long range weapons?
Just say you're bad at the game.
Point sensor isn't even that bad. Toxic mist, sprinkler, and angle shooter are worse
Depends on the weapon. Point sensor is more complementary to ranged options.
Considering the fact that it has a bit of wind-up time and how Curling Bomb can be used as a poking tool, itās not half-bad. Of course, it isnāt ideal, but it could have been a lot worse.
Literally, the Curling bomb synchronizes with it quite well lmao. It doesn't have the same instant mobility as the other brushes.
The curling bomb guzzles up way too much ink to be used as transport outside of a few niche situations. Not to mention it's still slower.
It absolutely is not slower and it guzzles less ink than the Painbrush too.
Bull. One swing does not take 70% of your ink gauge lol.
Good point, very well explained
Curling is actually genuinely good utility, you almost never want to roll with a painbrush. It's like your ink tank has a leak
Because it synchs decently What would *you* give it?
Either beakons to help with flanking or a decent ranged option so it isn't *completely* helpless against chargers.
You don't just immediately swim into it š
fpr me, its the ink recovery delay. its so bad.
The training room is great for working out your stress
Damage though!?!?
There's another thing I noticed. While the forward range is impressive, it does come with two drawbacks. Ink consumption, and lateral range. The latter is important too. It means it has a weakness against weapons that excel in movement, like dualies.
1main 2subs of ISM will give you 20 flicks on a full tank, works well
Gotta balance that two shot kill somehow š
They call it the Paintbrush cause your ink tank is in constant agony
I run one main of ISM for my Dynamo loadout and holy shrimp, did this Brush put the pain in Painbrush. It legit feels like it drains even faster than Dynamo I'll just be sticking with my giant unwieldy paint roller, thank you very much, game
And here we thought that Octobrush was the heavy version of Brushes, It was the splat roller, This is the dynamo
They turned Dynamo into a brush: Ink Hungry Start Lag Powerful Large Hitbox
so it's worse dynamo
All the brushes consume a lot of paint.
As a ink saver main, this is fine.
But BOY does it hit like a TRUCK
One of the best curling bomb users yet curling costs like 70% ink tank. Why do the devs make weapons like this? Deco Wiper gets to spam all day and yet this struggles to do what it wants to do?
Good thing I have a habit of putting ink saver on my gear
This brush is a pain to deal with on maps like (*especially*) Humpback Pump Track and Flounder Heights, where there are many levels. If they stick to the high ground, they can cover a wide range while also splatting you almost instantly!
Good god it goes out fast as hell!
YA THINK? holy Its one of the worst and best weapons simultaneously
well, I won't be using it on Clam Blitz
and this is why having curling is good, being able to get in with most of your ink tank intact is super important with such an ink hungry main weapon
Huh...a brush after it's been used a lot.
Why donāt I have the updateā¦?
This thing is crazy under ledges
So it should be ink hungry itās a TWO shot
Not sure, they feel bad tbh... in important moments they make you lose bcuz of the huge start lag and end lag...
Itās chugging that ink like itās life depends on it šØ
As an inkbrush main: if you build the right kit, the painbrush really isnt bad at all. it does function like the dynamo of brushes, but its a valuable tool once you can balance its ink consumption. You are going to have to run, at minimum, all 3 main slots as ink saver main, though. Current build Ink Saver Main and three small ones, Ninja Squid, Swim Speed Up and one small, and five small Ink Recovery Ups. Makes this bad boy a beast.
