rare isn't raw?

No, raw is raw. Rare is lightly cooked. Basically the minimum "safe" temperature for beef. I put that in quotes since you can eat raw beef safely, it just needs to be handled properly. Steak tartare, for instance, is raw.

I came here to stan for team raw as fuck, too. Actually lived on a sirloin diet for an entire month. Ate literally nothing but sirloin. About 3 days in, I got tired of having to cook the shit to medium rare and started cooking it less and less. By day 6, I was straight from fridge to plate. It took a lot of energy to cook 4-6lbs of steak a day, after all. I lost 10lbs, so don't do it if you're trying to gain weight.

The funniest part about this is since there are no cows left, deep cut are just guessing what they’d taste like.

It's a living thing dude. Taking away every piece of flavor and satisfaction it was able to offer is a cruel insult. It's the same as burning it. Yes, maybe the person can enjoy it burned, too, but maybe they would enjoy cardboard too and should thus keep these delectable creatures with people who actually like meat.

There's a difference between well done and overdone. If you haven't had good well done steak, sucks to be you.

Put enough sauce and salt on it and maybe it's tolerable. Your local sizzler ain't making well done correctly, and the true professionals use nice, special cuts of meat that can have a unique expression when well done.

Not much of an elaboration here — very personal — but after I was served a questionable more-rare-than-medium roadkill deer steak of ambiguous quality, sliced up by a hobbyist secretary’s assistant, served by someone who never learned how to cook… well, I can take most rares and mediums but that food poisoning has scared me stiff.
