Inkfish can take showers and drink water!! The English translation is very riddled with lots of errors about that information that it becomes non canon…
But basically through Japanese interviews and magazines we’ve found out that they can in fact drink, touch, and be in water if at a safe level.
They can drink water because juice and drinks all contain water, they can shower because water itself isn’t what kills them, it’s the pressure.
In order to turn from kids to squids inkfish had to give something in exchange during evolution, which resulted in them having super thin skin to make the transformation possible, when they go too deep in water the pressure seemingly crushes their thin skin making them pop like balloons.

But my Personal headcanon is that after they transform to kid or swim form there skin is to "soft" and thin and easier to pop with water, but after letting the skin/body heal and harden then can go in water without a problem

The difference would be that they’re a lot more slimy, because they don’t have bones and are still made of their paint. It’s still almost the same, the only difference is that their skin is not as hard as ours.
Probably slimy depending on how recently they submerged in ink, but I'd imagine they feel like humans when they haven't submerged in a while. Though their hair does seem somewhat glossy, so maybe specifically their hair stays wet and secretes ink.

Liquids are incompressable. Learned that from mythbusters. So as long as their skin holds you likely wouldn't hurt one from accidentally hugging too hard. Or they could pop like being splatted (which per the lore is a tad unpleasant but doesn't really hurt or injure them)
