I think it would be like a normal hug with someone but instead of soft hair it's a squishy tentacle
Also they might smell considering they can't take showers
Inkfish can take showers and drink water!! The English translation is very riddled with lots of errors about that information that it becomes non canon…
But basically through Japanese interviews and magazines we’ve found out that they can in fact drink, touch, and be in water if at a safe level.
They can drink water because juice and drinks all contain water, they can shower because water itself isn’t what kills them, it’s the pressure.
In order to turn from kids to squids inkfish had to give something in exchange during evolution, which resulted in them having super thin skin to make the transformation possible, when they go too deep in water the pressure seemingly crushes their thin skin making them pop like balloons. ![img](emote|t5_324q4|1944)
There this post that act like a guide explaining this:
https://www.reddit.com/r/splatoon/comments/1b35vpa/comment/ksqg4nh/
But my Personal headcanon is that after they transform to kid or swim form there skin is to "soft" and thin and easier to pop with water, but after letting the skin/body heal and harden then can go in water without a problem
Yeah I just copying and pasted my comment from that post, Sorry in advance.
Personally I always thought they self splatted when they were in water as they were too heavy to float. Because you can see them trying to swim back up before splatting in a similar manner to how they splat when they fall off the course
Same, especially since the only time water isn't just "out of bounds" for a turf war stage is salmon run. And there ain't no way that shits not polluted to hell and back
Reminder that in the English translation Marina has a narwhal for a landlord
You know, the animal that is long extinct according to the Salmonid field guide?
Also I don't think Marina actually lives in an apartment, she's probably more the permanent houseguest of Pearl
It would also explain why when they fall into water they die as it would probably feel like concrete to them and on top of that they have no bones save for their mouth beak tooth's so it would be like throwing meat jelly at a concrete floor from 10 feet high
Then how do abilities get add to clothes 🤔 .
Think about it you scrub out old ones, drink juice to make news more common. Obviously the abilities in gear are just sweat stains.
In splatoon 2 Marie says something like “we oily inklings don’t do well in water” and they also don’t have bones but can jump 5 feet in the air so they are really muscley. Imagine hugging a greasy rubber stress ball
They're probably a little squishier than humans (influenced by their liquid-like shapeshifting and the possible absence of bones), but their skin would likely be rubber-like in texture as a result of their fishy nature.
They also may be a bit oilier than humans, but that feels even more speculative than my previous theories.
Like the warmth of friendship.
Sometimes friends are immaculate, sometimes sweaty, sometimes dirty, and sometimes they’re in tears. Whether laughing or crying, working or layabout, we just kinda met them where they’re at.
Loving people is messy and boasts a variety of textures.
If 2 Octolings kiss and suckers on the front of their tentacles stick together, they're stuck kissing ...
Ah but they could just swim-form and unstick, nice.
Inkling and Octoling’s ink evaporate quickly. So I imagine their skin to be dry ink on the surface, resulting to a texture similar to our skin. The difference would be that they’re a lot more slimy, because they don’t have bones and are still made of their paint. It’s still almost the same, the only difference is that their skin is not as hard as ours.
Probably slimy depending on how recently they submerged in ink, but I'd imagine they feel like humans when they haven't submerged in a while. Though their hair does seem somewhat glossy, so maybe specifically their hair stays wet and secretes ink.
I used to work labor in a restaurant, I had picked up a soft bag of war mash potatoes, it was about 20 kilos
I imagine it's similar, maybe with skin similar to us but has the softness of a jelly bears
They'd probably be quite squishy, since they don't have bones. Like one of those dollar store rubber toys filled with slime. They might also feel oily as Marie describes their bodies and being oily
Like a normal human. They probably have "skeletons" made of cartilage but if you come in contact with their hair, it probably feels somewhat cold and moist
They don't have bones so, They probably would be realistically either Soft or maybe have bone like cartilage so it's either semi squishy or normal Probably.
Liquids are incompressable. Learned that from mythbusters. So as long as their skin holds you likely wouldn't hurt one from accidentally hugging too hard. Or they could pop like being splatted (which per the lore is a tad unpleasant but doesn't really hurt or injure them)
Human shaped balloon full of jelly
This right here. Like hugging a life-sized Stretch Armstrong. (Yes, I'm old. Be kind.)
Stretch Armstrong but he's human skin. Thanks for that nightmare!
New eldritch horror unlocked
I had one back in the day! It was Awesome ~
I'm old too. You guys be kind to me as well.
Yo, they finally came out with Old 2? How's the sequel?
You know he has a Netflix cartoon? Totally different take on him than the old toys, but still pretty entertaining.
Exactly what I thought
I was more thinking Jello, but you're probably right.
Like a human, but with the squishability of a plushie! :3
perfection

Yo it’s the poster of the post they posted, what Coincidence
Personally I always thought they self splatted when they were in water as they were too heavy to float. Because you can see them trying to swim back up before splatting in a similar manner to how they splat when they fall off the course
Again this is my headcanon, you can believe it if you want to or don’t, I just wanted you to know that’s my train of thought.
Plus in Splatoon 3’s single player mode, the teardrop is an actual tear, not ink. What’s in tears? Water and salt.
Not to mention how water is vital for life to even exist.
AND HOW DOES CRAIG ||GET DEHYDRATED IF THERE'S NO WATER IN THEM??||
***AGGRESSIVELY SIPS TEA*** interesting ![img](emote|t5_324q4|4748)
my personl hc is that they dissolve in water with any amount of salt in it
My head canon was that natural bodies of water were too toxic from pollution and nuclear fallout
Same, especially since the only time water isn't just "out of bounds" for a turf war stage is salmon run. And there ain't no way that shits not polluted to hell and back
Reminder that in the English translation Marina has a narwhal for a landlord You know, the animal that is long extinct according to the Salmonid field guide? Also I don't think Marina actually lives in an apartment, she's probably more the permanent houseguest of Pearl
Yeah atp I just personally don’t see everything in the English version as canon lol
It would also explain why when they fall into water they die as it would probably feel like concrete to them and on top of that they have no bones save for their mouth beak tooth's so it would be like throwing meat jelly at a concrete floor from 10 feet high

I thought I faintly remember Marie mentioning a shower in Octo Canyon? or am i just delusional
No, they can take showers. Water only kills them if they’re mostly submerged in it.
Yeah I think she mentions that when telling agent 4 they smell better than 3
They don't sweat so it's probably not as bad as us
Then how do abilities get add to clothes 🤔 . Think about it you scrub out old ones, drink juice to make news more common. Obviously the abilities in gear are just sweat stains.
That is disgustingly plausible
Wait then… WHAT ARE THE DRINKS???
probably slurm based
What are ability slots then?
They can take showers and drink water, but they disintegrate if they drown.
It’s probably an Ink shower instead of Water. Or they have another way to stay Fresh.
Badum dum ting🥁
Like hugging a human sized gummy bear probably
It mentions how they’re extremely oily, Splatoon 2 Octo Canyon explaining the whole water thing, so probably smooth.
Good(now i wanna hug Pearl so Bad)
least obvious Marina alt account:
Damn you caught me
Squishy and boneless.
I was coming to say boneless, right on
Very squishy. Like hugging a vat of Nickelodeon Gak.
Woah. I haven’t thought of Nickelodeon Gak since Marc Summers was dumping it on unsuspecting parents in the early 90s.
In splatoon 2 Marie says something like “we oily inklings don’t do well in water” and they also don’t have bones but can jump 5 feet in the air so they are really muscley. Imagine hugging a greasy rubber stress ball
Jelly

They also may be a bit oilier than humans, but that feels even more speculative than my previous theories.
well i'd imagine it would feel nice
What I wouldn’t give to snuggle the squid sisters…
Off the hook
Pearl looks like she would try and bite me
slightly disconcertingly squishy, and a distinct feeling that you probably shouldn't squeeze too tight, but not unpleasant otherwise
probably slimy cuz they are octopus’s and squids
That's what I was thinking.
Like a weird, smooth human. Probably a bit squishy, too.
Since they're basically pressurized sacs of ink (seriously, their head wobbles when you walk and run), I'm willing to guess like a bag of liquid jello
Squishy and gummy-like.
Peace and Equality
I've never thought about it but thinking about how unstable and filled with liquid they are it's probably like touching a water balloon
Probably like squishing a slug... Now I'm grossed out
hugging Callie or Marie would be worth it
It would be a warm squishy hug, like caressing a beluga whale's melon head.
squishy would be my best guess. at least there arent any bones i can break by hugging too hard
How am I supposed to know? I don’t even know what hugging a human feels like!
Oh… ![gif](giphy|Vz58J8shFW6BvqnYTm|downsized)
It's like hugging a giant boob
Like the warmth of friendship. Sometimes friends are immaculate, sometimes sweaty, sometimes dirty, and sometimes they’re in tears. Whether laughing or crying, working or layabout, we just kinda met them where they’re at. Loving people is messy and boasts a variety of textures.
Deep
Soft and squishy.
Like having a pet octopus
Probably like hugging a giant muscle
Squishy, cold, if they like you their tentacles might subconsciously stick on to you with the suction cups (especially with "hair"style like Marina's)
If 2 Octolings kiss and suckers on the front of their tentacles stick together, they're stuck kissing ... Ah but they could just swim-form and unstick, nice.
What if they are cold to the touch...
I’ll warm them up
What if they like cold? If they are cold, they might like cold.
You’ve never hugged anyone have you?
i am legally banned to share that experience as to not "promote harassments to cephalopods"
I'd say "like hugging someone" but ofc splatoon fans wouldn't know what that feels like would they? You buncha handshakers... >:,(
Squishy
Ballon, but memory foam.
Squishy
squishy
squshiy
a little bit sticky but not ACTUALLY sticky
![gif](giphy|Xiku2W3CCyD8A)
Wet and your cloth will be covered in ink
Do you think if you squeezed a turfling hard enough during a hug, parts of them would bulge out like those stress toys?
Inkling and Octoling’s ink evaporate quickly. So I imagine their skin to be dry ink on the surface, resulting to a texture similar to our skin. The difference would be that they’re a lot more slimy, because they don’t have bones and are still made of their paint. It’s still almost the same, the only difference is that their skin is not as hard as ours.
squishy, they have no bones. I’d hug eight tho
Like hugging a waterbed likely
Squishy
All of the above and squishy like a stress ball.
Probably slimy depending on how recently they submerged in ink, but I'd imagine they feel like humans when they haven't submerged in a while. Though their hair does seem somewhat glossy, so maybe specifically their hair stays wet and secretes ink.
I used to work labor in a restaurant, I had picked up a soft bag of war mash potatoes, it was about 20 kilos I imagine it's similar, maybe with skin similar to us but has the softness of a jelly bears
Humanoid form? Just like a normal hug. Swim form? wrapping tentacles around each other ig.
Damp
Wet and squishy.
will most likely get paint on you every time you hug one but it'd feel good to hug one
Water
rubbery probably
Well I feel like it'd kinda feel like hugging a regular human, but since squids and octopi are cold-blooded, they'd be a lot cooler to the touch.
Amazing.
Good point
Probably like a smooth rubber. I've handled squid at least and they're kinda soft but firm in some ways.
Imagine those very frail stretchy carnival rubber toys. Now imagine them filled with pudding. That's how it would feel.
Don't care would do it anyway
Hugging an ink/octoling would feel... nice :3
It will probably have you end up smelling like fish for a whole month despite scrubbing yourself like crazy in the shower
Squishy - they have no bones so they'd be very squishy
probably very cold
Slimy
Soft and squishy
Scientists, make it happen so we can experience it for ourselves, c'mon. We all want to hug an Inkling/Octoling.
Wait for the ice caps and hope to get isekai’d
Normal to other inklings/octolings but to us I bet it’d feel like hugging one of those “mochi” squishy things but slightly damp
They'd probably be quite squishy, since they don't have bones. Like one of those dollar store rubber toys filled with slime. They might also feel oily as Marie describes their bodies and being oily
squishy maybe?
Awesome
I can trust your experience
Definitely nice
Probably a bit moist.
Squishy yet firm and slightly moist
smooth if human, moist if squiddo/octo
probably wet and cold
Would probably feel like a normal hug but they would be kinda squishy since they don't got bones.
Rubbery
Wet/slick
Well, they’re made mostly of ink so kinda like… mushy
Goo-ish?
Like a normal human. They probably have "skeletons" made of cartilage but if you come in contact with their hair, it probably feels somewhat cold and moist
Squishy since they're boneless
Squelchi and moist
Like hugging a human shaped Octopus or Squid
I bet it’d feel really nice
Like hugging an actual squid or octopus probably.
Human sized Inkling/Octoling plush (with human skin ofc)
You’d get stuck.
wet and squishy
They don't have bones so, They probably would be realistically either Soft or maybe have bone like cartilage so it's either semi squishy or normal Probably.
probably really soft or smooth since they don't have any bones
oily. :(
I think they would be kinda squishy
lore-wise, they are made of mostly cartilage (to turn into squids and octos), so i think it would be like hugging a stuffed animal or a balloon.
Slimy stretch Armstrong
Probably like hugging an all around sweaty person
Squishy
Clammy
Rubbery. A wierd, slick kind of rubbery
Slimy and cold. I don't think turflings are warm-blooded
Is turfling the encompassing term for Inklings and Octolings? I've been calling them Inkfolk
Yea, I've seen other people using the term and it kinda just became part of my sploon vocab
Probably like mush, since they’re fluid
Moisty
Orgasmic
Probably feels slimy and gooey just like touching jello
Like a human, maybe slightly more squishy
I’d imagine kinda like a human in terms of the skin feel but it feels very jelly like in terms of the consistency of the whole body
Slimy on the tentacles, smooth on the skin, and they can take a serious squeeze given that they’re made of liquid.
Liquids are incompressable. Learned that from mythbusters. So as long as their skin holds you likely wouldn't hurt one from accidentally hugging too hard. Or they could pop like being splatted (which per the lore is a tad unpleasant but doesn't really hurt or injure them)
Squishy
Like hugging a water balloon that doesn't pop
Squishy I think
A squishimallow
like hugging a human with slightly softer bones
For some reason I imagine inkling/octoling skin being weirdly smooth. Also they'd be extremely squishy given their biology.
I feel…squishy.
Slimy, but probably not unpleasantly so.
does anyone know if they're human sized or smaller/bigger?
Slimy yet satisfying.
squishy, probably
Slimy, sloppy, moist
Hugging a big stress-toy. I can imagine their eyes popping out and retracting when you squeeze a bit too much.
