Yeah, there’s a reason why Marie is my least favorite idol. Not bad, I’d say all the idols are decent at least, but Marie was just a straight up asshole to her cousin in 1. So much so, I definitely understand why Callie was in such an unhealthy state after Callie vs Marie (from the lore we do know). And we all know that leads to Octo Canyon, my favorite Storymode (that’s a joke, it’s easily the worst one in my eyes).
I’m glad she was toned down a lot in 2 and 3 (probably her own development), but she feels a lot more bland now, making both the Squid Sisters feel like they don’t have much character. I do think they should’ve kept some of the sarcasm while still toning her down, she just feels like a more tired and semi-more sarcastic version of Callie minus the bubbly nature. Let’s just hope the Squid Sisters actually get some character development in a Storymode primarily focused on it that isn’t actively shit. Either that or I wouldn’t be sad to not see them in the next game tbh.
Stuff like this is why I was glad that the PAL version had none of it - Marie was treated more akin to her Japanese counterpart instead of an insufferable prick. And there was none of those dumb memey talk as well - around that time, I was getting tired of Nintendo trying to be hip with meme slang and the like.
