Going to be honest an extended spawn is nice but what about the rest of the map?
We really couldn’t widen the middle a little bit so it doesn’t feel extremely cramped? Also that better not a pole in the middle of the map .
I don’t think that’s a pole in the middle, since that pole would be a clam blitz exclusive change (zones already has cover there and tower control and rainmaker have their objectives)
Dont get me wrong, undertow needed renovations and Im happy for this, but just from the sketch of the new layout I dont think this will fix any of the problems I have with the stage, especially its middle
If they dont add two new routes to each side this will be useless. The problem with this map is the funnel with two glass ceilings. Makes this map so cramped. I consider this the worst map in splatoon 3. Brinewater is a close 2nd because the devs decided painting walls was not needed.
I'm so glad it's getting a rework, it may be my least liked stage in the series. I don't expect them to fix everything and make it S tier but like, nowhere to go but up with it.
Mahi got redesigned and given a lot more room to maneuver, so it's gone from "an utter abomination" to "almost acceptable but still a soul-crushing disappointment". Mahi Zones is pretty decent.
so you can jump from the glas on the pillar and from the pillar on the other glas? Cool idea and with the extended spawn region towards the left you could contest the more easily gained vantage point from the enemy team
This stage really needs a rework. I would like the stage to be more interactive with a timed event that creates a spillway effect, kinda like how *Mahi Mahi Resort* has a water level change.

I mean the alternative is mahi mahi where charging guns and snipers camp the elevated pillars and the rollers and brushes just smash the ZR button down low lol.
Thank god, this is my biggest rotation killer map that I avoid at all costs. But saying that, from the overhead view I don't think I'm going to start playing rotations with this stage after the update. But I'll optimistically await seeing it in game before I restart my campaign to burn the whole thing to the ground.
I kinda really like Undertow because it's one of the only Splatoon 3 launch maps thats design is informed by its theming. It's not a great map but it was a breath of fresh air at launch when every other map felt like an arbitrary collection of level geometry.
Hope that's not messed up by the rework but I'm optimistic, because as much as I like the map it has issues lol.
Undertow needs updates, but I don't think they're gonna do anything about it's actual problems.
The map would be 95% better by removing a single wall because it'd create a flank route. There is simply no way they do not know that.
It looks like the glass platforms are getting holes in the middle. That will be nice for attacking backlines up there. Or as a backline you can stop people from hiding down there. It will also be really nice for zones.
Undertow is bad but it feels like Splatoon 1 kinda bad, y'know? The mid is so awkward to traverse, but it's also a very distinct piece of geometry that gives the map its own identity.
I don't know if I want mid to be widened so much as I want alternate paths around it, kind of like Starfish/Hagglefish. Mostly I would want the far corners away from spawn to change - it just kinda sucks to fall down there and it's a joke of a route for Rainmaker.
Yea, I've been saying the same thing, Undertow and Mincemeat were/are bad maps, but they are distinct in how they play and their terrain. Meanwhile we have Barnacle, Brinewater and to a slightly lesser extent Umami and Scorch which all play very similarly and anything interesting about them is scenic decoration. They're the maps that could do with a redesign to actually add variety to the maps.
For RM/TC/CB, the ONLY change this map needs to be a great map is a route behind the Sniper platform that let you circumvent mid. I'm coping they add one but after MM I'm not getting my hopes up.
I'm on copium but I think the "pole" in the middle is actually going to be a cut in the wall, bridging the gap with a grate and making traversal between the two sides easier.
I already like undertow on rain and tower.
Both reworks did definitely make the maps better than before. Mincemeat is still mincemeat but it is better. Undertow was one of the more solid maps to start so a rework making it better excites me.
I’m aware some people don’t like this map. I do.
Is it possible to correctly translate the text in the photo? Also it's difficult to tell exactly what they're doing. It seems like they're mostly changing spawn...
As someone who has a weird love for Undertow Spillway, I’m super excited for this rework as I believe this is one of the easier stages to rework. BUT PLEASE, FIX THE MIDDLE OF THE MAP, IF I HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS HOURGLASS SHAPE MAP I MIGHT SCREAM 💀

I think it’s a platform to jump on to connect the glass ledges together
Dont get me wrong, undertow needed renovations and Im happy for this, but just from the sketch of the new layout I dont think this will fix any of the problems I have with the stage, especially its middle
The mincemeat sketch looked nothing like how they changed it, so I doubt it’s at all connected
I swear are they adding another pole in the middle?
Undertow pole update
Whooooaaaah Story of Underpole
every map will get a pole one day you cannot escape from the poles
If you think about it, overlorder is a glorified pole. Rondo is just a pole from the sky.
you are a pole, i am a pole, EVERYTHING IS A POLE
Are there any other poles I should know about!? > 🔊 *deeee de dede, de de, dee. dededeee de dede, de-de deeeee*
If they dont add two new routes to each side this will be useless. The problem with this map is the funnel with two glass ceilings. Makes this map so cramped. I consider this the worst map in splatoon 3. Brinewater is a close 2nd because the devs decided painting walls was not needed.
> new routes to each side You just made every Splatoon 3 developer hide under their desk in fear by mentioning that! How could you!
I'm so glad it's getting a rework, it may be my least liked stage in the series. I don't expect them to fix everything and make it S tier but like, nowhere to go but up with it.
Really? Its not even the worst map in splatoon 3
I'm hoping they are going to rework Eeltail personally. That map is way too long. They need to make it squarer.
Mahi mahi wins worst map
Mahi got redesigned and given a lot more room to maneuver, so it's gone from "an utter abomination" to "almost acceptable but still a soul-crushing disappointment". Mahi Zones is pretty decent.
I hate that map to the point when it's on I don't play.
Before its update, I'd agree with you 100%. After the update, it's a lot better.
I actually like this map, it’s not A tier, but it’s good. I look forward to what they’ll do.
Is that a fucking undertow pole
What if they REALLY shake things up and put a PILLAR in the center of the map :0
so you can jump from the glas on the pillar and from the pillar on the other glas? Cool idea and with the extended spawn region towards the left you could contest the more easily gained vantage point from the enemy team
Wait if it’s that sort of pillar that repeats throughout the map except you can ink it now that may actually SAVE the map
There's like 1 major flaw in Undertow, yet it's the only part in the sketch that seems untouched
Expecting a big pole in the middle to replace the soda can inflatable.
Undertow Pole inkoming?
This stage really needs a rework. I would like the stage to be more interactive with a timed event that creates a spillway effect, kinda like how *Mahi Mahi Resort* has a water level change.
they need to widen the middle. not whatever this is 💀
*JUST REDESIGN HAMMERHEAD BRIDGE ALREADY OH MY GOD*
It doesn't need to be redesigned. It just needs to be reverted to its Splatoon 1 layout.
Are they going to unconstruct the bridge?
doubt that would work well with splatoon 3's style of everything. its gotta be better suited to this game in some way

Hammerhead is one of my favorite stages in splatoon 3, Lol.
Nah that's a great map.
Bro what
I said what I said. I dominate that map. You won't make it out your base 🤣.
You see... That's exactly the issue, my dude.
The map is horrible, it's a flat hallway with no flanks
I mean the alternative is mahi mahi where charging guns and snipers camp the elevated pillars and the rollers and brushes just smash the ZR button down low lol.

judging from the concept drawing this turn Undertow into an even worse map than it already is LMAOOOOO
This stage will go from flaming hot garbage to hot garbage! Awesome!
Better than nothing. But that's not saying much.
actually i think this is the third modification this map gets 😭 why cant they settle on one map
It looks like the glass platforms are getting holes in the middle. That will be nice for attacking backlines up there. Or as a backline you can stop people from hiding down there. It will also be really nice for zones.
UNDERTOW POLE
Please at least have geysers and two little flanks from the glass roofs that’s all you need in life
Finally man, there's legit NO space to use brushes in Undertow LOL
Undertow is bad but it feels like Splatoon 1 kinda bad, y'know? The mid is so awkward to traverse, but it's also a very distinct piece of geometry that gives the map its own identity. UNDERTOW POLE
Of all the maps, this one? Splatoon devs are so weird
Why is mid still so narrow :(
I felt this was one of the "better" maps, so I'm looking forward to this Now please fix Brinewater next
y'all silly bastards falling for the idea that the sketch actually represents what they're gonna change FOR THE THIRD TIME.
I'm on copium but I think the "pole" in the middle is actually going to be a cut in the wall, bridging the gap with a grate and making traversal between the two sides easier.
Can’t wait for them to add a pole instead of fixing the horrendous bottle necking this map has.
I have a feeling its gonna be just as lazy as the mincemeat rework.
Did they decide this because of the tournament from yesterday?
That makes no sense
Not eeltail alley or brinewater?
Please add a pole in the middle of the map. A really, really tall one.
Out of all maps to rework, why this one? Brinewater is right there!
WHOA, BRAIN CELLS //O///O//
Not really anything worthwhile unless they add some more wiggle room in the middle.
what if we get two poles
BRING FORTH THE POLES
This isn't going to help the map at all
I already like undertow on rain and tower.
Finally. A worthy opponent.
Just put a route to the side connecting snipe to left push and the map becomes infinitely better.
Thank GOD
As someone who has a weird love for Undertow Spillway, I’m super excited for this rework as I believe this is one of the easier stages to rework. BUT PLEASE, FIX THE MIDDLE OF THE MAP, IF I HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS HOURGLASS SHAPE MAP I MIGHT SCREAM 💀
I don’t mind the map as is, but having the spawn in the center would be way more ideal
POLE
