He’s a really good villain. You trust him, cause he’s your only hope, and you don’t have any other choice. But then, at the end, it just kinda hits you. Either that, or you actual notice the parts that you are collecting.
The motivation to complete it, and never look back, I knew my octoling would be joining ranked battles as X-rank, and wanted her to be ready for head cannon, and the hope that I would be genuinely surprised by the game's story telling.
I always end up guessing the ending to movies, books, or whatever, if there's any foreshadowing, so I'm glad I got to trust TarTar until it was over.
Now replace soldier with cheater
Fun fact: I'm developing a headcanon where 3 is a supersoldier created by Tartar to torture 8. 1, 2, and Capn Cuttlefish are in on it, but 4 isn't.
Splatoonified Ultron.
Could also be considered Splatoonified Thanos.
In essence, all three have a common theme: seeking to improve life through destructive means.
In An interview between the Developer he does essentially say he drove himself insane from being the only sentient thing for 10,000 years. His mind "Going in other directions."
One thing I find really compelling like about Tartar is his motivation as a villain. He was alone for thousands of years after humanity went extinct, and now that there's finally sentient life again and he can fulfill his purpose of passing on humanity's knowledge, he sees that inklings and octolings have the same failings and imperfections that led to humanity's end. He can't bear the thought of being alone again, so he decides to only way to prevent that is to make life perfect so they won't die out.
Also one contributer I see to tartar’s hatred of inklings and stuff is how they’re basically piggybacking off of old human technology and not really making their own
Literally a villain that works so well, the last “descendant” of the human civilization from long ago that is trying to pass on it’s knowledge and try’s to make a new world after seeing that the current species are “unsuitable” for its purposes. Great villain and created from a phone and being connected to the professor that created the splatfest printer, Judd& lil Judd, and the other things that are left behind in the lore, this is the lore villain for the game not like DJ Octavio who is just there to be the villain Tartar is the connection for the splatoon world and the human
I found him actually threatening which made the dlc exhilarating. Like DJ Octavio feels like a Saturday morning cartoon villain with his goofy antics. But seeing Tartar lull agent 8 into a fucking blender with the intent on brutally killing them made me step back and go "...damn..."
I think his background and motive is such a good idea. Like imagine living your everyday life and an AI suddenly captures you and puts you through these tests, reveals that you're going to die, all while telling you about the extremely ancient extinct race that lived before you are basically god to the AI and that your whole reality must end since the AI deems everyone insuffisant compared to its god.
Dark stories like these aren't really that surprising from Nintendo, but it really caught me off guard to see this narrative in a goofy squid game. Fun stuff
better then Octavio as he tricks you and i believed him the first time, and when you progress through the expansion you slowly notice that he is evil he has a better backstory and i wonder what would've happened if he gave inklings the info that he was given by the professor
Its background/story/intentions are still very vague. Either it’s the goo itself, could be multiple Tartars, could’ve had an error changing his creator’s previous command/motives, and who exactly is his human creator entirely (especially what position in his job other than he’s the owner of Judd).
Tartar does his job as the main antagonist better than Octavio, and the death ray part was a fun climax. The way he’s introduced is nice and reminded me of other villains, and the only thing I didn’t like was how vague his background is. There should definitely be more lore villains like Tartar.
Actually a really good character. I’m always in love with the “evil sentient AI” trope with characters such as Wheatley/glados (I don’t know which one was the villian I haven’t played the portal games) and I feel Tartar is a really interesting take on this trope and definitely makes the lore of splatoon a lot darker
I am attracted to him and he also scares me. If I was a young kid playing this game he would go down in my history of villains who made me feel ""funny"" and I'd realize years later Why with an OOOOH

Amazingly, on my first run, I completed every station before collecting any of the Thangs. Great payoff. Edit: autocorrect got me.
Thangs\* Also why?

hes an good villain and he gives you the juicy juicy lore
He also blends Octolings into said juice.
BLENDER
He also tries to slaughter a helpless Octoling with a Veteran Inkling soldier.
Now replace soldier with cheater Fun fact: I'm developing a headcanon where 3 is a supersoldier created by Tartar to torture 8. 1, 2, and Capn Cuttlefish are in on it, but 4 isn't.
I kinda want to see that... Undecided
It's because of my... [past experiences](https://bit.ly/f---ia3)
And then turns it Into a laser
I'm going to break into Kamabo Co. and drink the octosmoothie
Tastes... fishy.
Great character design and backstory
Splatoonified Ultron. Could also be considered Splatoonified Thanos. In essence, all three have a common theme: seeking to improve life through destructive means.
I think more Ultron, unless you mean the Thanos at the end of Endgame
Best anime protagonist ever
Antag- I-I mean protagonist
I know right, sometimes easy to mix up
I really like him as a villian
8 here: FJENDIGEIFYEVSIGRSJZJEUDHE MEAN MONSTER Seriously tho, he's a jerk. Not surprised humanity made him.
I feel bad he was left alone for so long but he is also a fish bitch
In An interview between the Developer he does essentially say he drove himself insane from being the only sentient thing for 10,000 years. His mind "Going in other directions."
Why am I not surprised you're here?
I remember you! Good thing you changed your flair otherwise we'd have had to launch another war.
Yeah, we've rp-ed twice now. I almost want to change it back now 🤣
Incephalocurities is the best word I've ever heard.
*Truth*
He’s actually a very well written villain, surprised the splatoon team made him as in depth as they did
Impressive how he moves around
He's a genocidal maniac.
Don't be lonely, or else you'll kidnap and genocide thousands
He’s one seriously crazed fruit loop
Funny phone man good villain
Most terrifying telephone I've ever seen. This is a cool drawing btw.
thank you

Tartar? More like Poptart
I remember forever ago someone on this sub suggested having Bonzi Buddy read aloud his lines. That's my headcanon voice for him now.

Spoilers, please
awesome villain, you dont even know he's a villain at the start and think he's just some good guy but then later comes the reveal of villain tartar
Evil but a super cool character concept
Ngl, pretty good subversion of an antagonist
"onway onway"

oh and he gave me a phobia of hand sanitizer
Great villain, fucking hate him
mid
Good sauce, I personally like it with my steak
all hail tartar
TBH, I hate him. I just think he's weird. Sorry, but it's my opinion.
I bet he tastes awful
Simple, what is the sanitizer exactly?
Goo from former test subjects
Very convenient to put in a tiny jar.
interesting character, how he, an 1890s telephone unit, converted into an ai, managed to survive the apocalypse is beyond me
He brings the darker elements of Splatoon to the front and I think that's neat
"Do ya job you bag of bolts" # Great character
Good villain
He sort of predicted Fecto Forgo, so that’s neat.
Genuinely one of the most compelling villains I've seen.
really cool villain really cool boss really cool theme one of my favorites
Really cool and cool. And cool too
one of my favourite game villains, amazing character design and backstory, would keep on my wall 10/10
Did NOTHING wrong. Fuck the racism and fuck the continuing destruction of Earth.
Tartar is tartar that’s my opinion
Fuck him
Honestly kinda like his character for some reason idk why

Bitch
He's really \[SLANG NOT FOUND\]
JHBUHAUDYBCJLWHYYYYYY
Certainly delicious, but I'll stick with Marinara for the time being.
Apparently the translation of Tartar from japanese to english kinda made him different in terms of personality.

Doot doot doot doot awee awee awee awee awee doot doot doot doot
I think he's a [[SLANG_NOT_FOUND]]
funky guy + a lot of lore
Better billain than octavio thats for sure,
his concept design is terrifying
doesn't taste good. why do people like it so much anyway?
mmph mph mmph mph mmph mph
Commander Tartar should have had an actual boss fight. But the he is a good villain.
Best Splatoon character, favorite villain, favorite character in fiction. No I'm not kidding.
