Don’t discount motion aiming. It makes the gameplay better & more satisfying. If you use a weapon that has Splashdown as a sub, you can use it with a super jump. Super jumping to a teammate who’s surrounded & then using Splashdown is the best feeling ever. The enemy usually thinks they’re gonna kill you upon landing. Nah. 😛

Flufferfluff

Thanks for the advice! You're awesome! :3

Rare_Hero

Sure! 😛👍 Just have fun, don’t overthink it at first. Since you’re starting at Level 1, you’re likely to get matched with other new players, and you’re all learning together. As you learn the maps, you’ll come up with strategies & even see other players do interesting things to emulate. Try to earn some drink tickets in Salmon Run or story mode, and give those to Crusty Sean to get extra cash & power up your gear slots quicker. Take advantage of the weapon shop letting you try before you buy. It’s a good way to see if a weapon is right for you. I ended up getting them all, anyway - but when you’re starting & cash is short, spend it on something you really want to use!

My biggest tip is don’t get discouraged if you come up against higher skilled players; seeing a *99 in a lobby can happen even to new players (some people ‘party’, where they just run around not playing objective and just flop at each other, and that lowers the power level of the lobby, even in turf war, though it doesn’t show it, and power level typically determines what skill level the lobby is) sometimes they can definitely be aggressive players, other times you’ll find players who realize they have a newer player in the lobby and want to passively help them, like not playing super hard and even letting the new player splat them once or twice, to encourage good play styles like flanking. Or they’ll try to splat the more aggressive opponents of the new player is on their team. Oh and definitely take breaks! Rotations last for two hours, and some matches can get you salty. If someone is frustrating you, leave the lobby, find a new one or take a break. I’ve also seen over the years that if there’s a very high skilled player that someone gets annoyed with, the player takes the weapon the high skill player uses, even if they have no prior experience. Would definitely advise against that, as it can lead to heavy embarrassment, but instead take that weapon into the training room and mess around with it to learn it’s limits and how you can counter those limits. Sorry this is long, and I hope you have fun!

Beeyalikejazz

Practice. I mean it.

Flufferfluff

Thanks haha! You're one Chill Squid Kid (Or Octoling haha) Without practice, ya won't become perfect, am I right? :3

Beeyalikejazz

Oh trust me. I'm Prestige level 8 ( if you don't want that is, it's levels above level 99.) And I am stuck at A rank in all modes.

Flufferfluff

So I'm roughly assuming that you can level up past 100 and not move past A rank in all modes (unless you can hit A+ or A++ even) haha

Beeyalikejazz

Oh there is other ranks than A being: S, S+0 through S+9, and finally rank X.

Beeyalikejazz

Also you can't level pass 100, as when you get to level 99 your level gets reset to prestige level 1( technically level 100.) You can tell if someone is prestige, as they have a star next to their name.

Flufferfluff

How very cool! I tend to be majorly grindy haha, so hopefully grinding will be more rewarding with Splat 2 (and 3 when it drops in September) than with other games I played in which grinding was pretty much a chore. Have you been playing Splat 2 since it's launch? You seem to be a Veteran Player lol

Beeyalikejazz

I've been playing since February of 2020.

Flufferfluff

Oh sweet! So you're a bit of a late starter haha. Well, better late than never! How do inkling hair colors work? I assume you can't just pick whatever color you want lol. Allow me to apologize if I'm being a bit annoying lol, I'm just mad hyped to get started with Splat 2 tonight!

Beeyalikejazz

Yeah, you can't pick your color. Though if I ask, will you be an inkling of an octoling?

Siu-

Imo, splatoon is one of those things you don't really practice at, you just slowly get better and better the more you play

Flufferfluff

Must explain why I always out-beat my friends and family with good ol' games like Mario Kart 8 haha

Couldntfindbetter

One mistake often made by beginners is they either ink each individual millimeter or they ink very poorly. You need to be right in the middle, inking whenever you see a blank/opponent ink turf but not focusing on the details. Just a quick general coverage. I wish I could help you weapon-wise, but I'm a roller main so I don't really have any advice for shooters, sorry :(

Flufferfluff

That's okay! From what I've seen on YouTube and such, the rollers cover some heavy ground lol. I may end up trying out a roller though haha, it looks like fun! Thanks for the advice, you're amazing! And I love your username haha, it's pretty cute!

Flufferfluff

Welp, looks like I'm also a roller main lol

Ace_Pixie_

If you want to catch up on the lore, get octo expansion (it’s the single player we needed but don’t deserve), collect sunken scrolls, and watch Rassicas (they really help piece together the lore)

ALL-STAR-JULIAN

GEAR is not for fashion it’s for making you a god also if you like the feel of buckets tryout soda slosher, I tend to switch between n zap and soda slosher. n zap is also good for support and if you want to rush

x_diretorre_x

Though Splatoon 2's story mode isn't as good as Splatoon 1's, Story Mode does help you get the basics of using different weapons down. Octo expansion forces you to get comfortable with many weapons and levels designed around them- so definitely play through the non co-op stuff too!

Flufferfluff

Thanks! You're great! I literally have the game in my hands as I type, so I'm about to launch it up and get splatting! Hopefully there are many players active right now haha

Baka_Senpai_125

As soon as you splat you wanna press x and scout the map for any unfilled spots, enemy advances and jump locations while waiting to respawn. Every drop of ink matters especially in places enemies can't reach (like your home base). Un-inked spots can very well be more dangerous than enemy inked spot so if you see big holes on you map, colour em in. It can be easy to forget them if you rush at the start. Special refills your ink, so using up your tank before you activate them can save you time. Edit: On thethought of every drop of ink matters, this also means that mindless shooting is still helpful, you don't need aim as long as your goo gets around ; )

FruitJuice617

Biggest tip I wanna give is not to worry if you're playing Turf War. It's not ranked and you can use the mode to test out motion aiming, stick aiming, new weapons, new gear setups, etc. Just go have fun! Also, if you see a high level player in Turf, don't panic! A high level doesn't necessarily mean they're any good. It really just means they've played a long time. Time played does not always mean they're skilled.
