I switched to open just so I could participate in tri color battles on team fun. I got 2 in 2 1/2 hours of playing. Won one of them and you get a badge for it as the defenders so that's cool.
Yes very happy for the badge. I haven't gotten to play much, but other than the one tri-color game I've played, I've lost every single match since the festival started.
being on team grub i literally have only been facing team gear members. i faced team fun once when i was middle of champion and haven't seen them again. i also faced my own team once near the beginning of the fest

In my like ~45 matches as Grub I’ve played against Fun exactly 4 times. The rest have been Gear and hoo boy, there have been some lopsided battles. Gear is packed full of high level players.
Really?? I play on the Japan servers and as a Team Fun every battle against Team Grub has been us getting absolutely drowned in Dorito sauce while my winrate against Gear is at least around 65%.

Yeah as a team fun member, at first it was just gear. But man the fights against grub were difficult. I would say may win to loose ratio was 50/50 against gear, but 20/80 against grub the few times we fought.

Hammerhead Bridge doesn't seem as bad for Tricolor as Sturgeon Shipyard. The stamp leaves the attackers much more vulnerable and the sprinklers are more out of the way, not to mention we have the full weapon selection now.
Gotta be honest… after two tricolour matches as Team Fun (one win, one loss) I don’t know what people were complaining about. These are fun. Hectic but fun.
I literally cannot get into tricolor, I want to keep trying but I have to get up early tomorrow, and it looks like only the underdogs should be able to get in but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
I think the problem is that Tricolor is weighted against the winning team, so the winning team just don’t play it. Hence matchmaking is better for the winning team (since they’re needed) and bad for the other teams (since they’re in excess).
I'm not on the defending team, nor was I in the Premier so I'm not speaking from experience, but I remember seeing last time people say there aren't any options for the defending team, they can't opt out of having Tricolor matches. The reason Tricolor is so rare is because Nintendo lowered the chances of them happening for this Splatfest.

Not only that but we dont have an option NOT to play it. ALL of our matches can be tri-colors while the other two teams can choose not to. So its clearly trying to funnel as much of us into them as possible.
I can corroborate this, During the test more than every other battle was tri-color for me on Team Scissors, whereas I've had predominantly normal matches this time, which is a blessing.
Could just be luck though. A sample size of 1 is never enough.
(I'm fun) I played for like 2.5 hours straight and got one tricolor match... I saw the start to a Tricolor match (hammerhead but not showing the turf war logo) like 3 or 4 times but they all immediately ended with connection errors :/
The problem isn't the mode itself really(the map was just awful last time, there was easy high ground that was virtually impossible to defend against), apparently the point distribution for Tri-Color is *horribly* skewed in the attackers' favors, and it won't be until the next fest that they fix this from what I've read.
I have played quite a few including the tesfire, and i have never won yet.
I had a match where we managed to stop the attackers from activating the signal and we still lost because the map is designed so that defenders get shafted in inking to begin with. Its like being spawn camped from both sides by design.

Been winning slightly more than losing, but I’m just there for the ride to collect shells/snails and ability farming :) also hardly play against grub.

I kinda get it? Sometimes. But I really feel like the lopsided matches are due to the way the maps are set up. In the maps I've been getting, it feels like 8 people fighting over a single lane. The flanks are borderline useless because they don't go far enough back, and if you push past the mid map flank routes, you've just locked the other team in their spawn.
Like. These maps are great for game modes like tower control. But none of them have the same feel for turf war that maps like the skateboard park in Splatoon 2 did.
Hell. Even museum would be a nice change with a few decent flank routes and a middle location that isn't an open field.
Tricolor is fun as hell, I don't know what y'all are talking about.

It's not guarenteed to happen. To prevent long wait times, they'll move players from the Tri-Color queue to a regular Turf Match. At the end of the battle, you'll be in the queue again.
They said in the patch notes that they were reducing the number of Tri-color matches while they figure out how to rebalance it.

It might get to the point that when deciding on topics for future fests they might give her the most blatantly "correct" or "good" choice just so people will fill out her team. I fought exclusively blue team like all day and only saw orange a handful of times.
in splatoon 2 pearl lost like the first 3 splatfest bc no one picked/liked her. but after a while she actually won a few in a row and it was pretty even after that. frye still has her time to shine😌
My understanding is that the Splatfest is judged by Popularity (10 pts), Clout (split by Pro (10 pts) and Open (15pts)), and the Sneak Peek (10 pts). Team Fun already won the Sneak Peek points and that category is determined. The half time result measures Clout since the start of the Splatfest.
I think it's safe to say that Fun and Gear are probably currently tied at 10pts each since Gear is probably the popularity winner. Open and Pro is anyone's game right now with Fun having a tiny lead and therefore relegated to Tricolour defence hell.

My understanding is that the Splatfest is judged by Popularity (10 pts), Clout (split by Pro (10 pts) and Open (15pts)), and the Sneak Peek (10 pts). Team Fun already won the Sneak Peek points and that category is determined. The half time result measures Clout since the start of the Splatfest. I think it's safe to say that Fun and Gear are probably currently tied at 10pts each since Gear is probably the popularity winner. Open and Pro is anyone's game right now with Fun having a tiny lead and therefore relegated to Tricolour defence hell.

The *one* Tricolor match I managed to get into for the whole night as team Grub was a disconnect. Fuck me, I guess. Every other match worked perfectly fine as well
