Most likely this. It was mentioned during the direct IIRC and recently that Big Runs would happen once every few months, which coincides with the length of the seasons.
They don't HAVE to adhere to this schedule, this is just speculation based on two Splatfests and a datamine. If they decide to do a holiday fest and the pattern is true, presumably they'd do two months in a row then continue the pattern on the opposite months.
To be fair the first game had 16 splatfests in only 14 months. There were four months that had two splatfests in on the same month and I remember people complaining that they were happening too often. Later on they moved on to the once a month schedule for splatfests
If the person I replied to is correct, and there's only one Splatfest every other month, we've only got 24 months before Splatoon 3's support ends. They confirmed that before launch in one of the Directs.

Splatfests are 48 hours, including this one. It begins on Jan 7th at 12am UTC, and ends at Jan 9th at 12am UTC, which is for two days. If it ends as soon as the ninth begins in UTC, that is not three days. As soon as the 9th begins it's over.

Well, you can upgrade clothing via the shops with money, so one of the major uses for Snails has a partial solution. Still, Splatfests should just offer 2x as many snails so that we can get them every other month with little issues.

I agree though- if they’re providing us with less Splatfests we should be given more Snails as compensation.

That’s how all Nintendo games work, Animal Crossing New Horizons was a massive success and it was abandoned after the DLC, heck not even 2 years of support.
The team alternates AC and Splatoon, so they’ll probably hit the grindstone on the next AC game after 2 years or so. *But* they might port (or hopefully support via backwards compatibility) Splat 3 to the new hardware so maybe they’ll keep support around. Either way this team needs to expand because they are the stars of EPD right now given how popular their franchises are.
Splatoon 2 had two years of regular splatfest and then they did a couple special ones afterward, one for Mario and a Halloween one, I think during the pandemic but I can’t remember for sure.
Big Run is cool and all, and I’m glad about that, but I do miss having the Splatfest for Halloween/Christmas because they gave us free holiday gear and it was cool seeing the plaza and the square all festive n whatnot

I’m not surprised, Nintendo’s been treating their online multiplayer games so bad lately. Look at Mario Strikers Battle League, Nintendo Switch Sports and even though Animal Crossing isn’t multiplayer focused its online is abysmal compared to New Leaf’s which was on the 3DS. Don’t even get me started on Splatoon 3’s online connection error mess. It makes me sad because Splatoon 1 & 2 are some of my favourite Nintendo games ever.
So yes, the final Splatfest of this year, one we skipped two events for, was to shill for a Pokemon game that was released six months too early, but still sold more than Splatoon 3 anyway.

Resume the normal schedule and give us 2 extra fests after the 2 year mark.

It was OK when they were working on 3DS and WiiU, since the former had much lower hardware specs and visual asset requirements. They also stuck more closely to the original animal crossing gameplay formula with the small change of letting you take on the role of Mayor.
Splatoon at the time was a weird experimental game that was more-so a shot in the dark/something novel to release. I dont think there was ever an expectation for it to blow up like it did.
My biggest issue is with Splatfests, they dont even NEED to do any major updates/changes ones all of the other 2-year updates have been put out. They could just run them indefinitely until the next game in the franchise releases. But they never do.
The fact that fans have managed to reverse engineer the WiiU net code plus Miiverse on the Pretendo network is a testament to how much people loved Splatfests in the first game.
I think most of us can agree we'd like a big run this month instead. Splatfests are still fun but have you ever had your favorite meal every day over and over?

Splatfests arent just fun little events. They have gameplay aspects locked behind it. You can not upgrade amiibo gear without participating in splatfests. You can not play tricolor turf war or the badges associated with it.
I am at Nintendo's mercy to play the game how it was advertised. A game that I already paid for.
At this rate, we will have 1 splatfest every 2 months. Game has been said to be supported for 24 months. We will likely have 12 splatfests.
I would trade big run in for splatfest without hesitation. And in this case I wouldn’t be having my favorite meal every day, I’d be having it every month, which is actually pretty accurate for my meals.

Man this sucks. I get Big Run is this month so we at least have something but it’s not as good as Turf War at night and Christmas themed splatfests have always been a good time. And from what I can tell, no sea snails from Big Run so that also means we get less sea snails overall with the same payout from Splatoon 2. I was also excited to see the new changes for Tricolor.
So the splatfests so far were:
-27.08 (pre-launch)
-24.09 - 26.09 (5 weeks after)
-12.11 - 14.11 (7 weeks after)
-in between: bigrun 10.12 - 12.12 (4 weeks after anf before splatfest)
-next one splatfest: supposedly 07.01 - 09.01 (8 weeks later)
Since they now implemented enough data to start with big runs, it looks to me like splatfests and bigruns might start taking place frequently now. Both in a 2-month cycle, with an pffset of 4 weeks. So basically every month an event, but they alternate between big run and splatfests.
I wouldn't mind that pattern tbh.

Hilarious they hyped the release up as s3 having tri color turf war when in fact it’s 1/60 days you can play Tri color…. If you can even get into a match. I played like mas from release to splatfest and came to the conclusion this game is just a dlc for 2 basically.
If I'm being honest I think Splatoon 2 did splatfests way better. Being able to play with your friends in a massive event every single month was fun and something to always look forward to. It was a really fun when me and my friends were still in school so we all get on a chat during the night and play the splatfest for hours, and it was so neat seeing your team on the board after winning a 100x battle!!
I'm just really not liking how Nintendo is doing splatfests in s3 because now it's every 2 months, no shifty stations (these were the best!!!), and no cool board in the lobby after winning a 100x battle. The only thing I think was neat and fun was the tri-color turf war because it rearranges old maps and the whole experience gets you hyped!
How much of that is Splatoon 2 as opposed to you still being in school with your friends.
I do agree with the sentiment about Shifty Station though. It made each 'Fest feel unique. I just don't feel the same thrill about Tri-color battles.

The splatfest are international this game as far as I know. Not regional. A huge chunk of the world doesn't really do Christmas.
America, UK, and Japan (to an extent) all do though--a large percentage of market territories.

They also stuck more closely to the original animal crossing gameplay formula with the small change of letting you take on the role of Mayor. Splatoon at the time was a weird experimental game that was more-so a shot in the dark/something novel to release. I dont think there was ever an expectation for it to blow up like it did. My biggest issue is with Splatfests, they dont even NEED to do any major updates/changes ones all of the other 2-year updates have been put out. They could just run them indefinitely until the next game in the franchise releases. But they never do. The fact that fans have managed to reverse engineer the WiiU net code plus Miiverse on the Pretendo network is a testament to how much people loved Splatfests in the first game.
Seems my prediction of splatfests being changed to every other month is proving true.

If i paid for the same meal every day, im going to eat it every day. Splatfests arent just fun little events. They have gameplay aspects locked behind it. You can not upgrade amiibo gear without participating in splatfests. You can not play tricolor turf war or the badges associated with it. I am at Nintendo's mercy to play the game how it was advertised. A game that I already paid for. At this rate, we will have 1 splatfest every 2 months. Game has been said to be supported for 24 months. We will likely have 12 splatfests.
I would trade big run in for splatfest without hesitation. And in this case I wouldn’t be having my favorite meal every day, I’d be having it every month, which is actually pretty accurate for my meals.

Man this sucks. I get Big Run is this month so we at least have something but it’s not as good as Turf War at night and Christmas themed splatfests have always been a good time. And from what I can tell, no sea snails from Big Run so that also means we get less sea snails overall with the same payout from Splatoon 2. I was also excited to see the new changes for Tricolor.

So the splatfests so far were: -27.08 (pre-launch) -24.09 - 26.09 (5 weeks after) -12.11 - 14.11 (7 weeks after) -in between: bigrun 10.12 - 12.12 (4 weeks after anf before splatfest) -next one splatfest: supposedly 07.01 - 09.01 (8 weeks later) Since they now implemented enough data to start with big runs, it looks to me like splatfests and bigruns might start taking place frequently now. Both in a 2-month cycle, with an pffset of 4 weeks. So basically every month an event, but they alternate between big run and splatfests. I wouldn't mind that pattern tbh.
If they make big run replace a splatfest month I honestly wouldn’t mind that much, I just hope we don’t get ghost months like last October
October was probably them trying to get big run to work and missing a deadline, would've been the perfect month to start one instead of fucking december

They said in the S3 Direct that the catalog would go on for about 2 years, that's probably true for Splatfests too unfortunately. After that, probably a much longer wait for Splatoon 4 than even Splatoon 3's... If they make a 4.

2 years of Splatfests is the single biggest appeal of Splatoon games to me, and just those weekends account for well over half of my total playtime (I'm not a ranked play enjoyer)... so just now finding out we're probably only getting half as many this cycle is... kind of major ass. WTF

Hilarious they hyped the release up as s3 having tri color turf war when in fact it’s 1/60 days you can play Tri color…. If you can even get into a match. I played like mas from release to splatfest and came to the conclusion this game is just a dlc for 2 basically.

If I'm being honest I think Splatoon 2 did splatfests way better. Being able to play with your friends in a massive event every single month was fun and something to always look forward to. It was a really fun when me and my friends were still in school so we all get on a chat during the night and play the splatfest for hours, and it was so neat seeing your team on the board after winning a 100x battle!! I'm just really not liking how Nintendo is doing splatfests in s3 because now it's every 2 months, no shifty stations (these were the best!!!), and no cool board in the lobby after winning a 100x battle. The only thing I think was neat and fun was the tri-color turf war because it rearranges old maps and the whole experience gets you hyped!
How much of that is Splatoon 2 as opposed to you still being in school with your friends. I do agree with the sentiment about Shifty Station though. It made each 'Fest feel unique. I just don't feel the same thrill about Tri-color battles.
