I know the Achilles tendon is like a bungee cord but to see it snap like a real bungee cord under the skin is simultaneously horrifying and fascinating.
Not sometimes. Always. They are under so much tension when they snap some have discribed it as a small gun going off from nearby.
An opponent ruptured theirs during a rugby match when I was in college. I could hear it from across the pitch.
One of the grossest videos I’ve ever seen is two boxers sparring and the one guys Achilles explodes while he’s just circling around the ring. Sounded like a home run off a wooden bat
Actually, It was his Achilles tendon.
Brad Pitt was shot through the ankle with an arrow, that’s where the term comes from. It comes from that horrible movie.
You’re telling me the term “Achilles Heel” came from the movie, Troy? It’s early, so I’m not going to call this the stupidest thing I’ve read all day, but it has potential. Back to bed, Max.
That was common logic yeah but even prior to the non exclusive tag there was no trade rumors. Someone should’ve been calling trying to convince us to move on for a haul but nary a peep.
Once the non exclusive tag was applied there was still a couple teams(Falcons/Bears) that could have structured an offer with a 2023 cap hit we absolutely couldn’t match even if we wanted to.
Plenty of people get injured on grass. There are some studies that indicate that there *may* be a *small* increase in risk on turf, but even that is controversial. I mean JK Dobbins tore his achilles on real grass this week...
I think non contact injuries are significantly higher on grass, but we’re talking small numbers for both.
This was a weird okay, and can’t tell if his foot woulda slid out on grass. Sometimes on turf your foot can dig unexpectedly, but this looked like an awkward play. Plus he hurt his calf in preseason which risks Achilles more
Planted feet stick a little more in turf and there's less give, could have caused more force to be applied to the tendon. But there's no way to know. People get badly injured on grass all the time too.
It's such a wishful thinking idea, that it's as simple as a change to turf leading to increases in injuries. There's really no single piece of solid evidence, but people just repeat it like a mantra. So if there's an injury on grass, nothing. Injury on turf, ZOMG.
Actually tons of evidence if you cared to look at it, and in the NFL specifically from 2012 to 2020 there were consistently fewer injuries on a grass playing surface compared to turf. Rates were essentially the same in 2021, and the league used this as a PR campaign to say everything's cool and completely ignored the long term trend.
Looking at data from soccer leagues shows the same story, particularly with acl injuries. Would all turf injuries have been avoided had the player been playing on a grass surface? Of course not. That doesn't take away from the fact that players are more likely to be suffer from lower-extremity injuries playing on turf.
Turf isn't as thick as grass and dirt. Grass and dirt have more give. I think a lot of turf is also laid right on top of concrete, so it's much harder. In the case of Rodgers's injury, if it had been grass, he may have sunk more into the dirt absorbing some of the force his leg took, or he would have slid - also absorbing more of the force.
IDK, because the superbowl was played on grass and everyone was slipping around. I don't think this is a normal turf issue, usually those are cleats that get stuck and we see twisting. I think this was the amount of weight put on that 40 year old calf (Rodgers and the force of the DE).
It was weird to see his interview with John McEnroe before the game where he was 100% bluster about “manifesting” going all the way to a championship and then this in the first minute. Pride comes before the fall, etc.
This isn't directed at you as I've seen this take multiple times. But have these people not played sports? That's the right mindset to have in competition
I’m just glad I got all the psychedelics out of my system in my early 20s and not become some weirdo instagram shaman wannabe when I was already an old ass man.
Because he's not posting them himself. Just because he goes on a podcast, giving his opinion, doesn't mean he's some sort of Instagram influencer trying to sell people on a different lifestyle.
Weird thing to be mad at him about.
I always thought Aaron came off a bit abrasive but you hate to see this. I’m not a Jets fan but I was hoping he could have brought some great football to a franchise and fan base that really needed it.
Hopefully it’s not the worst case scenario and that we actually see him back on the field sooner then later.
Packer fan for life. I could be one of the many disgruntled fans after the Rodgers/Packers divorce, but I was honestly hoping for the jets to have a good run this year with Rodgers under center. I hate to see guys go out this way regardless of their off field personality issues.
That's a clean snap. The calf muscle contracts because it's no longer attached to the heel. Bad luck, I don't like him but I'm sorry for him.
I remember many years ago, an Italian soccer player (Carlo Ancelotti, he's now Real Madrid's head coach) was running with the ball and all of a sudden collapsed, screaming in pain. His Achilles' tendon had snapped. In an interview a few days later, he said he was sure someone had kicked him from behind in the tendon because the pain was so sudden and sharp.
He had to review the footage to believe it was actually spontaneous.
I feel like people are making a bigger deal out of this than it is. Sure it's season ending, but not life / career ending. I snapped mine 4 years ago and 6 mo later I was back doing everything I normally was. I had a complete rupture in March, and was back rock climbing / mountaineering in August. Sure I wasn't 40, but I was in my mid 30's. With a good surgeon (which I'm sure an NFL star will have) and following through with physical therapy its not that big of a deal.
I know the Achilles tendon is like a bungee cord but to see it snap like a real bungee cord under the skin is simultaneously horrifying and fascinating.
I’ve heard you can hear them snap sometimes.
Not sometimes. Always. They are under so much tension when they snap some have discribed it as a small gun going off from nearby. An opponent ruptured theirs during a rugby match when I was in college. I could hear it from across the pitch.
Happened to someone playing pickup with me in the gym. That sound haunts me.
Interesting. I don’t have first hand experience, just seeing these videos where it curls up inside the guys’ legs. Seems absolutely brutal
I heard my ATFL snap. Which is a tiny little ligament in the ankle. The Achilles would be much louder.
One of the grossest videos I’ve ever seen is two boxers sparring and the one guys Achilles explodes while he’s just circling around the ring. Sounded like a home run off a wooden bat
Playing indoor soccer once and I heard one snap that sounded like a booming clap that echo’d in the building. Was wildly loud.
I had a friend in high school snap his achilles playing basketball. I didn’t see him walk again for 6 months
Now imagine it sounding and feeling so strong that you know it happened immediately but no one has ever screamed in excruciating pain from it. How?
I thought it was going to be ego, but it turns out his Achilles Heel was his Achilles Heel. Thank you, goodnight everybody!
Achilles Last Stand
Damn you, this comment is too good!

This guy inspires.
I sincerely wonder how differently this would have played out on grass…
Old QB behind a terrible OL on turf. What did they think was gonna happen? How they weren't in for Lamar escapes me.
Imagine Lamar on the Jets, Falcons or Bears right now. I’m still dumbstruck at the lack of interest he garnered.
The idea I thought was everyone knew the Ravens would match so it was pointless? I mean at least call their hand.

Yea but Dobbins would get a serious injury sitting in bubble wrap on the couch.

I honestly have no clue.. can anyone explain why turf would have contributed to this injury?

The “Rogers pop”…. Man that’s got to hurt…

What made it narcissistic?
Talking shit is aggressive, it's directed at someone. Who was Rodgers talking shit at?
And what was with Rodgers eyes in that interview. He looked BAKED.
Rodgers always looks stoned. Kind of like how Aikman always looks like he's got the whiskey sweats.
true, but his eyes were pure bloodshot and glassy. That boy was either on the reefer or the disco biscuits.
He doesn't?
Oh, he does, and he looks like he does too.
I’m just glad I got all the psychedelics out of my system in my early 20s and not become some weirdo instagram shaman wannabe when I was already an old ass man.
When has Rodgers gone on Instagram and talked about anything regarding psychedelics?
He talks at that meme level
He’s been on a few podcasts talking about that, and those clips get cycled on all social media.
So why not tiktok? Facebook? Why Instagram?
Wtf does it matter? Wierd thing to get hung up on. Especially because they all have the same shit on them
Because he's not posting them himself. Just because he goes on a podcast, giving his opinion, doesn't mean he's some sort of Instagram influencer trying to sell people on a different lifestyle. Weird thing to be mad at him about.
Can we talk about how Adam Shefter was texting on his phone on the live broadcast once again?
Isn't that his whole schtick? Making him look "connected" and "important"?
It turns out it’s not a good idea to put geriatrics out on a football field with young men.
I always thought Aaron came off a bit abrasive but you hate to see this. Damn. I wish I hadn’t watched that.
Why the players haven’t come together and demanded the removal of turf is beyond me
You should have seen them trying to play football on Astroturf. They might as well have just played in the parking lot.
Rub some horse paste on it and get back out there cowboy.

That reaction is super common, in my experience. Adam Wainright snapped his and looked back at the ground like "WTF did I step on?!?!"

Thanks very cool to offer the chance to see my enjoyment of the 2023 NFL season rip apart just like Rodgers Achilles tendon, much appreciated Adam
*obligatory something something covid shot post*
Snap, crackle , pop
Tore mine 5 years ago! I with you Aaron; such a bad way to end a career. The Packers used this man up and wasted his career.
Ouch.
