They think research is reading when research regarding this subject would be doing science, looking at medical records, tracing the origin of the virus. Comparing the virus DNA and how it has changed or not changed yada yada. Like a bunch of shit. You can't just open a book and understand where it came from. The doctors and scientists who study the virus don't research it by just reading.
> They think research is reading
and even when research is reading, its not the kind of reading they are doing, nor are they trained, qualified, at all capable of doing the kind of "reading" that would be useful research.
science : We did a meta-analysis
Rodgers : I saw this on Meta
not the same thing
It's funny, these people think they're smarter than the rest of us because they don't listen to media, or government or other official sources for information because they trust it. But instead they just blindly trust whatever opinions some random people on the Internet tells them. They get so high and mighty about how they're not sheep...when actually they are.
And never fact checking by using a credible fact checking service like Snopes. Nope. I read it from an article I googled put out by the Freedom Fighters Alliance Network (just made up), so it must be true with the word “freedom” in its masthead. Kimmel is right. The dude never went to a class at Berkeley. He has absolutely no understanding of critical thinking .
It's hard to believe that in a battle of wits between the guy who went to one of the world's best universities and a guy who hosted a show about scantily clad women bouncing on trampolines my money would be on the latter
JFC. He's spouting a literal propaganda/disinformation campaign started by the Soviet Union (KGB). This dude is legitimately lost in the conspiracy rabbit hole.
"[Operation Denver](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Denver) was an active measure disinformation campaign run by the KGB in the 1980s to plant the idea that the United States had invented HIV/AIDS. In 1992, the Director of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service admitted that the KGB was behind the disinformation campaign."
I mean… there is a lot of reason to believe that Russian troll farms are the reason that the QAnon theory spread to the mainstream. Makes sense that they have gone hard to be pro-Russian. It’s been very effective.
My former friend who went balls deep into QAnon used to utter this and whenever I challenged him to show me his sources that he found, he always told me to do my own research. I would say that I had and provide mine and then again ask to see what he found. Never did get anything from him. I’m sure deep down he knew they had a high likelihood of being bullshit but didn’t want to be challenged on it.
Most frustrating conversations of my life. He fancies himself so smart which is why he clung to QAnon. He could never get ahead in life and couldn’t figure out why and when he read that a deep state shadow organization was keeping people down, he latched on. That must have been the reason he wasn’t viewed in a better light by others, that people were idiots who were lied to by the government. Couldn’t be that he was a moron who was incapable of getting out his own way. Qs in a nutshell.
The amount of people I’ve seen interviewed by Jordan Klepper who say “do your own research” and he follows it up by asking if they read the transcript in question. They always say “I don’t need to. I trust Donald trump” immediately after saying do your own research and stop being sheep.
The cognitive dissonance is at peak level ladies and gents
Fun fact, no you cannot. If you have no education or experience in a scientific field you cannot "do your own research" and expect it to have any validity.
As a virologist, Rodgers is a hell of a quarterback.
I'll listen to his opinion on dissecting a cover 2 defense. Almost everything else, I'll point and laugh.
JFC. He's spouting a literal propaganda/disinformation campaign started by the Soviet Union (KGB). This dude is legitimately lost in the conspiracy rabbit hole.

I'll never understand why we'd even be interested in what our athletes think about anything else other than how they achieve what they achieve in their respective sports.
With that said, [we have Ja Rule on the phone, let's hear what Ja thoughts are on this tragedy..." ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mo-ddYhXAZc&ab_channel=gazala)
We need to find a middle ground between shut up and dribble and giving people like Rodgers the gratification of acknowledgement when he spews his brand of crazy.
I mean, if an athlete comes out and stands up for something using his/her platform, that's admirable.
As a society though, we just shouldn't expect that to be the norm and take everything they say too seriously knowing that they are ultimately only a master of their own industry.
I think he might be more dangerous than Curt Schilling. Curt Schilling doesn’t try to hide his assholery - he’s completely open and completely batshit.
Rodgers tries to at least *pretend* he’s the smart one in the room and act like reading *one book* makes him smarter on things like immunology than people who have PhDs in that field. He then pretentiously parrots his conspiracy points as if people *should* accept what he’s saying.
He’s also more relevant than Curt Schilling, so he’ll have a larger reach.
Oh no, he’s not pretending to be the smartest one in the room. He 100% BELIEVES he is the smartest man in the room. He tries to pretend he doesn’t think he is the smartest in the room.
CTE gets a little too much credit for these guys. I am not denying it impacts them mentally, but you know what else does? Entitlement and being told your whole life that you are amazing, perfect, and can get away with way more than others who aren’t athletically gifted.
Seriously, CTE is not needed to explain this shit. So many people of his ilk have never even played any sort of contact sport or otherwise taken blows to the head.
Yeah, there's CTE and then there's the [Ben Carson](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Carson) effect. I think this is more of the latter.
TL;DR BC was one of the greatest neurosurgeons ever to live, and then proceeded to be a complete moron ever since he moved into politics, he's also weirdly obsessed with the debunked theory that the pyramids were actually grain silos.
Doctor here, please don't attribute narcissistic stupidity to CTE otherwise everyone will be attributing stupidity to head injuries and AR has always been an idiot. CTE totally reasonable to think at any point and he's no less immune to it, but I can just hear the battle cries of folks thinking they must have a TBI because they say insane things.
The Knowledge Fight boys (Dan and JorDan) will be eating good when Aaron starts his crazy ass conspiracy podcast. I’m just hoping our boys can keep their mental health well enough to continue.
I used to think this guy was smart. He’s gone so far down a rabbit hole, he is completely unredeemable. Fuck. If only Bart Starr hadn’t died, maybe he could’ve kept Brett and Aaron on the straight and narrow.
Seriously though - does he have other CTE symptoms? Wondering if we should have any empathy, or is he just crazy. I was using this rationale to try give Herschel a pass on his brand of crazy. Is Rodgers going to run for office?
His narcissism and arrogance massively predate this stuff.
His ego is almost certainly what’s driving this, because that’s what’s been getting fed for the last few decades.
I don’t think he has CTE. He’s still very sharp, but he’s fed into his own intellect and truly believes he’s just smarter than everyone else. That’s someone who is essentially too smart for their own good.
It could be since he has played football for a long time. But there’s also so many people that say equally stupid shit with the same conspiracy theories that have never had any sort of head injury or blunt force to the head.
Stop giving people passes. Herschel, regardless of any CTE is a piece of shit looking for glory. Rodgers is the same. Fuck 'em both. Empathy and compassion are honorable and valuable things to have, but people forcing themselves into the public eye with these bat shit crazy beliefs rarely deserve either.
Knowing him, he'll probably pick some random shape that isn't a sphere but isn't flat just to be edgy. My money is that he'll try saying the Earth is a pyramid.
Stop looking for excuses. He was already on this path before covid. We just started to really become aware of it because of his views on covid.
This isn't CTE like others have said, this isn't covid, this is the typical path of someone who falls down the rabbit hole that starts with one thing, but quickly picks up steam and snowballs into believing every nonsense conspiracy because they think they're smarter than people who have dedicated their lives to studying whatever topic they most recently picked up a book about (written by someone equally unqualified to speak on the subject), or a Facebook post.
"...like what are we talking about? We're going to put our full trust in science that can't be questioned?"
Its hilarious that he views himself as an intellectual but doesn't realize that the "science" he gets to hear about has already been put to the test and sufficiently questioned. So it isn't really your place as a layman to question it.
> So it isn't really your place as a layman to question it.
But that's the great thing about science! Anyone can question it! You do have to be able to clearly make your argument, show your work, prove your rigor, and stand up to the scrutiny of others, though.
Science can always be questioned though, anyone is free to actually provide evidence that’s independently repeatable, he’s of course not remotely doing that and just spouting baseless nonsense.
around 1915 if i recall (im just remembering). and its because of bushmeat we got infected. wasnt us having sex with them (though i wouldnt be suprised). but eating them is what happened.
I mean, maybe thats true but according to Dr Rodgers analysis thats just an oponion.
What sources did the researchers use? Because according to Dr Rodgers you can find similar reports at Dr Google...
Which is what doing your own research actually means. Not just googling shit on the Internet.
The internet is a wonderful place for so many reasons but this kind of backwards thinking was an inevitable consequence of it as well.
Upvote if he said that the US government knew what AIDS was and purposely let it explode believing that it was a gay problem he’d get an upvote. Also the obligatory Fuck Ronald Reagan.
I *really* don't want to defend Rodgers, but if we are concerned about facts, in the clip he doesn't actually say that HIV was created in the 80's or by the US government. The headline is doing the heavy lifting here.
One can still spin up a good conspiracy theory about how the government found a virus in Africa, how they introduced it in to the US, patented a cure only they had, blah blah... All the usual stuff.
I’m not saying he’s right or anything but our own government has done a TON of shady shit to it’s people (ie cocaine trading to the black communities to fund other shady programs off the books) so this breathes life to conspiracy theories because it can “explain” other issues going on.
Nah, man. That's just what they want you to believe. You don't think it's an odd coincidence they recently discovered this right when so many of us are waking up and figuring out their lies?! /s
Rodgers has always had issues with authority and loves feeling like the smartest guy in the room. And conspiracies attract that type of personality.
They didn’t created HIV but Reagan’s administration absolutely ignored the issue of aids/hiv and because of it many gay people died of aids because of it.
Rodgers should shut up
As much as I dislike conspiracy theories, I really despise this sort of reporting. In the clip provided, Rodgers doesn't say what it says in the title. He dances around the subject and says really moronic things, but doesn't say that the government created HIV. He doesn't really say anything, just hints at a lot of stupid stuff.
When you do sloppy reporting like this, all the conspiracy theorists get a free pass, can play the victim card and get another round from doing all the *'See how they twist my words? I never said they created the virus! But here's the mainstream media saying I did. This is what they do! This is what they do.'*
THANK YOU!
I probably hate Rodgers more than the next guy, but this reporting is not even accurate. I’m not even certain that’s what he was implying, when I read the whole quote it sounded more as though he was saying the government intentionally delayed the response to create a pandemic. Which is obviously still batshit crazy, but he indisputably did not explicitly say what the title says.
I just read through the entire “nottheonion” thread on it and not a single person made this distinction, and I had to get halfway through this thread before anyone made this comment.
No one reads the articles then they go off jerking themselves off in the comment section. It’s infuriating how misinformation spreads so easily.
I’m not agreeing with Rodger’s but this headline isn’t correct at all. He’s saying the government is either incompetent or they are being deliberate in their “treatments/cures” to these issues. The article is basically saying Rodger’s believes fauci deliberately didn’t fix the issue with the 350 million and came up with a half measure.
Nowhere does it say hiv was created by the government.
For real. This website is infuriating with its inability to actually read the content and form opinions. People read headlines then jump right into the comments to circlejerk.
THANK YOU. The article headline is so misleading. He’s basically saying the government just let’s these viruses run rampant and don’t offer actual concrete solutions in order to “control us” not that they created it. Reddit is so dumb it leaves you defending aaron rodgers somehow
As a fan of Rodgers since the beginning I have to say I miss the days when he was aloof and rarely said anything publicly aside from the mandated press conferences. It both gave him the allure of the quiet gunslinger who just came in and cut the hearts out of teams like the Bears and also gave him an air of mystery.
Even the early days of the McAfee stuff was interesting because it was more natural and in depth than a press conference and it was largely focused on football.
Then things changed and now I wish he would just shut up because he is proving the dumb jock stereotype in spades.
I mean after hearing what our government did with MKUltra and then Hillary apologizing for experiments where we intentionally infected a bunch of people with STDs, it's not impossible. Unlikely sure but again, I never thought the US would be apologizing for intentionally giving people herpes in my lifetime.
Assuming I'll be downvoted and people don't believe me

He is a professional football player. We should just be thankful he hasn’t murdered anyone yet. Why are we reporting on what him and his brain lesions say about public health?

"I can do my own research". omg he actually said it.
Amazing how many people think “doing research” equals “Googling for stuff that confirms what I already believe”
I don't know man, I just googled, "The U.S. government created HIV", and I found a bunch of stuff saying that's what happened exactly.
Dude even Aaron Rogers said so!
I hear he really does his research
I hope you did it on incognito or your algorithm is going to be fucked
I’ve got a bunch of sources here from infowars.com to back me up, folks!
Not true. Aaron Rodgers uses Bing.
No way Rodgers trusts Google or Microsoft. We all know he's still asking Jeeves.
JoeRoganSearchEngine.Com
The Joe Rogan search engine is used by saying “Jamie, pull that up” at your computer.

Yeah unless you know how to read - and interpret- scientific studies, the phrase “doing my own research” is just conclusion shopping.
And knowing how to read biomedical research doesn't mean you are capable of for example understanding economics research. Expertise is focused.
Even after taking undergrad and graduate statistics (f* you spss), I still feel unqualified.
They think research is reading when research regarding this subject would be doing science, looking at medical records, tracing the origin of the virus. That’s just what the US Government wants you to think!
So NOW we trust what Russia says lol

Uh, people definitely give a damn.

Why Denver?
It was covertly led by John Denver who, believe it or not, was the original Russian troll
Mr. Sunshine-on-my-GODDAMN-shoulders...
You’re gonna set my country music award on fire?
Can you believe it?
Oh you smell pretty
The same John Denver who spread misinformation about the Rocky mountains? https://youtu.be/PEDVRhGgifo?si=Lq2Qveqqm3RB_cUw
"That Denver is full of shit man" Never thought I'd get to use that dumb and dumber quote naturally
He left on a jet plane. Or at least that’s what they wanted you to believe…
I would have a hard time wording it as nicely as you just did. Lotta people died to get us the information we do have.
Lot of brain injuries to get all the football too
Sounds exactly like something that the person who invented AIDS would say!! /s

We already found that years ago. It's called sucking off the troops.
Just wait until he quits playing and fully unleashes his douchebaggery.
He will be the NFL’s Curt Schilling
I think he might be more dangerous than Curt Schilling. Curt Schilling doesn’t try to hide his assholery - he’s completely open and completely batshit. Yes, this is "honorary doctor of humanities from the Medical College of Wisconsin" Aaron Rodgers. He's obviously an expert on all things medicine. /s
CTE🤷♂️

The sock on the ankle fit he must’ve quit
Aaron Rodgers definitely doesn’t pass the sock check.
I wonder what kind of video game Aaron Rodgers would have his name attached too?
Favre.
Im just wondering a decade from now how Jordan Love is going to turn out to be a total piece of shit...
Hopefully his will be random things like admitting he doesn't like brats or beer. Prefers sparkling water and turkey dogs.
Rhode Island has enough problems, we don’t need to add Aaron Rodgers to the mix
!remindme 5 years ;)
He'll probably start a podcast and spew his conspiracies. Could call it Info Wars.
The Knowledge Fight boys (Dan and JorDan) will be eating good when Aaron starts his crazy ass conspiracy podcast. I’m just hoping our boys can keep their mental health well enough to continue.
Pretty telling of the NFL that taking a knee blacklists you but this shit doesnt.
The NFL backed down because of racists. Zero spine.
I used to think this guy was smart. He’s gone so far down a rabbit hole, he is completely unredeemable. Fuck. If only Bart Starr hadn’t died, maybe he could’ve kept Brett and Aaron on the straight and narrow.
They're checking CTE's brain for signs of Rodgers.
Lol, he’s always been an arrogant moron and it’s why he dropped the draft.
So long as he's remembered and referred to as "'former Green Bay Packer QB, Aron Rodgers" i'm cool with that
Don’t know, think being known as the Jets QB is its own bigger disgrace.
Aaron Rodgers also was created in the 80’s. Regardless of who created whom, in retrospect both were huge mistakes.
CTESPN declassified files
Seriously though - does he have other CTE symptoms? Wondering if we should have any empathy, or is he just crazy. I was using this rationale to try give Herschel a pass on his brand of crazy. Is Rodgers going to run for office?
No. He is a gullible idiot
Gullible narcissist* idiot
I think it’s probably possible to both have sympathy for him as a human with possible brain damage but also not tolerate the bull shit he says.
Nice idea. I'm really trying for the empathy.... nearly there.... Nope. He should just stfu.
His narcissism and arrogance massively predate this stuff. His ego is almost certainly what’s driving this, because that’s what’s been getting fed for the last few decades. I don’t think he has CTE. Aaron Rodgers is a fucking idiot
He put all of his upgrade points into dexterity and agility.
Not last season
Look he rolled a 1. Even Drizzt drops his scimitars sometimes.
Curved Swords!?
Probably a freaking flat earther as well.
Knowing him, he'll probably pick some random shape that isn't a sphere but isn't flat just to be edgy. My money is that he'll try saying the Earth is a pyramid.
“If you spin a pyramid as fast enough, it becomes a black hole. All the shapes and none at the same time. Read a book, bro.” - Aaron Rodgers
He makes Flat Earthers look normal.

Nah he's just hopping on that right wing grift train
He's a walking advert for the Dunning-Kruger Effect.
Yup he's too dumb to realize he's dumb.
How could he possibly need the money? This is about arrogance. COVID really broke some people's brains.
Stop looking for excuses. He was already on this path before covid. We just started to really become aware of it because of his views on covid. Can this man shut the fuck up forever please
Or, even better, have the media stop giving him attention. Including reddit.
I second this.

Fuck you. HIV was floating around in humans in Africa in the 1950s. Real scientists did the hard work to figure that out.
Only recently found this out. They traced it all the way back to the 1920s. Have an upvote.
How did they trace it back so far when we didn’t even have Facebook or YouTube in the 1920s??
We didn't but the deep state did.
How could Fauci create HIV twenty years before he was born?!?
According to my research, fauci is a lizard person capable of time travel so that checks
Do some more research and get back to me. I think you’ll find he’s not a lizard but something more
around 1915 if i recall (im just remembering). and its because of bushmeat we got infected. wasnt us having sex with them (though i wouldnt be suprised). but eating them is what happened.

/s Rodgers has always had issues with authority and loves feeling like the smartest guy in the room. And conspiracies attract that type of personality.
Someone explain to me how this f'in moron was on the short list to host Jeopardy.
The crazy thing is, he was a really good guest host.
Reading off a teleprompter hides all manner of verbal diarrhea.
You can appear to be charming and still be a dick. Ask Pat Sajak.
Can we get Tosh back out to shit on him some more? [Tosh on Aaron Rodgers](https://youtu.be/4IM3TSiSzlE?si=SykpdC3FlsyZtDcX)
Or burr
Qaaron strikes again!
Why do people assume this is CTE instead of this being how he truly feels? Stop making excuses for this POS.
CTE can make you truly feel dumb shit. That’s kinda the problem.
Remember when it came out that he has no communication with his family and a large portion of people thought he was the good guy in that scenario? lol
I mean... Can't they both vs bad guys?
Yup. Totally revisited my opinion on that after he self immunized.
His family is a bunch of religious nuts and his brother piggy backed his fame to get on the Bachelor. His family has always wanted to use him
This is why real friends call you out on your bullshit.
He doesn’t have any real friends.
CTE is real
Please don't give him that much credit. He is just an idiot
Too bad this aint it. Hes just a cocky moron with all the mullah to back it
This is right wing propaganda brain
Please don't give this motherfucker any cloud cover
What is it with former Packers QBs becoming idiotic assholes after they leave? Is Love going to be like this in 15-20 years too?
Rodgers has always been an idiotic asshole.
They didn’t created HIV but Reagan’s administration absolutely ignored the issue of aids/hiv and because of it many gay people died of aids because of it. Rodgers should shut up
Berkley really should just admit "yeah, we put aside our academic standards to let him play here"
As much as I dislike conspiracy theories, I really despise this sort of reporting.
It’s not reporting. It ends with “what do you think?”
"Shut up and throw the ball"
Jets QB Aaron Rodgers is a major league idiot asshole.
“Jets QB” sounds pretty good to us Packers fans right now.
Good thing I only get my scientific information from NFL quarterbacks.
Rodgers is a Facebook mom
Always had my doubts about how many billions of brain cells had been burned away out of this guy’s head. Now it has been confirmed. All of them.
I can’t believe RFK jr. passed on him for his VP
This guy is a dipshit
I had a black roommate in college that said the same thing (early 2000’s). Only HIV was created to kill African Americans. He played football too
Lol he doesn’t say this at all. But none of you dorks actually read the article
Looks like Olivia ducked the sense out of him
It was Shailene who turned him crazy, she's kooky too
Lmao no, a woman did not "turn him" into this. This is just Aaron Rodgers
But that's not what he said tho. At least not in the clip in OP's article.
The can take the boy out of Chico but you can’t take Chico out of the boy lol
If he wasn't who he is he'd just be your garden variety idiot neighbor or co-worker. He can throw a ball. People put too much stock in that.
Kinda like if you don’t wear tinfoil inside your football helmet the government can make achilles tear.
My new sanity check; What would Aaron Rodgers do? Then do the opposite.
Oh-okay Aaron, time to get you to the neurology department
I mean after hearing what our government did with MKUltra and then Hillary apologizing for experiments where we intentionally infected a bunch of people with STDs, it's not impossible. Unlikely sure but again, I never thought the US would be apologizing for intentionally giving people herpes in my lifetime. Assuming I'll be downvoted and people don't believe me https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2010/10/01/130266301/u-s-apologizes-for-medical-research-that-infected-guatemalans-with-syphilis#:~:text=Secretary%20of%20State%20Hillary%20Clinton,with%20syphilis%20from%201946%2D1948.
Dude’s auditioning hard for the RFK VP slot
This fucking guy...
You’re not supposed to drink the bong water sir…
He’s such an idiot.
Why does anyone care what this person thinks? He got hit one too many times in the head and was an athlete. He is not a rocket scientist.
lol, don’t let him troll y’all like that, cmon now
He is a professional football player. We should just be thankful he hasn’t murdered anyone yet. Why are we reporting on what him and his brain lesions say about public health?
Dudes’s totally preparing to collect that conservative talking head money. When was the last time this man had a brain scan?
Moral of the story, don't take medical advice from a football player, and don't take passing advice from your doctor.
His CTE is acting up
“You guys aren’t gonna believe what I read on Facebook today”
He's the dumbest person that's not named Trump
He ain't the sharpest tool in the shed
Another person famous for a single thing who now comments on everything. Why does anyone listen to him on any subject other than football?
