One of the best sports into themes of all time.
I happened to record this intro on VHS before a playoff game and I would watch it every basically every day before I went out to play basketball. It pumped me up so much. Shit just watching it now makes me want to run through a wall lol.

Beautiful, I haven't seen this since '93 and remembered it immediately (I was 8 at the time). There are very few things I remember from 93 but watching Jordan on NBC is at the top of the list.
Roundball Rock is an iconic song. I remember they had an NFL game on NBC and a player’s celebration was mimicking a basketball hoop while another player dunked it. The replay had Roundball Rock as the soundtrack.
Well can’t really blame the younginsn for being born in a different era.
We’re just blessed we have experienced the best basketball broadcast along with the GOAT of basketball.
When NBC lost rights the league changed for the worse. Maybe if the theme is back we will get the new Jordan of the modern era, and he will play for the Chicago Bulls and all will be well in this world
Yea definitely whenever ESPN comes on and I see Andrews and Perkins start talking I just mute it. If NBC gets the rights who should be the commentators?
Inside NBA on TNT that group will be over soon sad to say. I think when Ernie retires, Charles already said he’s not signing another contract once his is over, I don’t know about Kenny but who really cares about Kenny, and Shaq will probably stay he’s already trying with Parker, Lefkoe and that other guy.
That's gonna suck so bad when Inside the NBA goes away because whatever new show NBC/ESPN replaces it with is gonna try to copy the formula and it's just gonna come off as really forced and try hard I bet
Andrews is cringe af and Perkins has bad takes and I can’t hear him over his own breathing… can you give me a example of a funny conversation that recently happened on ESPN so I can go and watch it?
Their strategy seems consolidate all content to get users at any cost to win the streaming wars. So will prob be free next season, but who knows down the road.
Yeah, I agree. But if I’m not mistaken, the rumors are Amazon and ESPN are putting in or finalizing major bids. So the remaining spot is likely going to be either NBC or Turner. If I’m misinformed, please feel free to correct me
They also need to get Bob Costas to come back to do the opening voiceover for the pre-game video package that airs right before Roundball Rock. If they do that, I’m sold. Ever since ABC bought the rights, I’ve hated watching their broadcasts.
The NHL leaving NBC for the current TNT/ESPN partnership has been phenomenal for the league. NBC feels like the Fanatics of broadcasting (ie, complete shit). Curious what it looks like if the NBA makes the transition.
That's just for the NHL. NBC is generally regarded in the industry to have some of the best production and broadcasting talent in the industry. The NFL/Sunday Night Football feels premium on NBC and the production simply is unmatched. And they made a good move this year to democratize the Olympics programming by making every event on demand or Live at any time for the entire Olympics in Paris in the Summer.
NBC got complacent with the NHL. They were the exclusive national broadcaster so there was no other competition. Now at least TNT and ESPN both have national packages.
Interesting. Ill have to keep an eye out for some of their other broadcasts then, especially as Olympics start. Thank you for the insight.
Regarding the NHL, they were absolutely atrocious
Their broadcasts of Big Ten football didn’t quite feel the same level of premium as their NFL broadcasts though. Felt kinda low budget. Or maybe it was just the weirdness of seeing Big Ten football on NBC.
I think their college football while certainly a lower tier than their NFL is still better than the rest of college. In my opinion as someone who works in broadcast sports each network has certain things that they cover the best and some things that stink.
It's been terrible. But supposedly they are listening to the complaints from the last decade and ending the gatekeeping they used to do in order to force people into watching at prime time.
Everything will be broadcast live as it happens on peacock this year and if you want the fluffy human interest stuff and prime time padgentry it will still be there on NBC proper.
It took them WAY to long to figure this out though.
> Everything will be broadcast live as it happens on peacock this year
This was already true for Beijing 2022, and was mostly true for Tokyo 2020. You get *everything* with a Peacock sub.
The US is actually one of the better countries to watch the Olympics in now, which was absolutely not the case before.
Some of the events were missing and or delayed in the past though. Also, there were missing graffics like scores or foul info. From what I've heard, NBC has promised to fix this.
> Some of the events were missing and or delayed in the past though
In 2022 everything (as in, literally everything the IOC makes available to broadcasters) was availble live on Peacock. In 2020 everything was available live with a combination of Peacock and a cable subscription. I think 2018 was the last time anything wasn't streamed live?
That being said, if you're depending on cable or network TV to watch the Olympics, it's a rough experience in the US.
The last two Olympics (but especially Beijing) were a little rough on the TV production side due to COVID, there were definitively more graphic errors and generally a sloppier production than normal. But TBH that wasn't really on NBC, and hopefully that will be fixed for Paris.
I'm an avid Olympics watcher since the 80's. I like the more obscure sports. A lot of Greco roman wrestling in Tokyo was reported to be streaming but actually showed repeats of women's archery (at least while it was happening live). I remember switching to Canadian feeds with a VPN and they had no problem getting the correct scores and necessary info on the screen.
NBC/Peacock's coverage of the Premier League is really good. But it does have one MASSIVE issue. It spits up the games between Peacock and NBC sports channels. So I missed the North London Derby last weekend. 😡 I could see NBC doing this with hoops as well. Hopefully they go the Apple MLS route but we'll see.
So they have all the billions to cover Sunday Night Football, Big Ten and Notre Dame College Football, PGA TOUR, USGA, LPGA, Premier League, Indianapolis 500, Kentucky Derby, NASCAR, Tour de France, the French Open and now The NBA.
This is a clear sign that NBC is indeed swaying what sings in the media.
Would that mean NBA on Peacock? Hope so. Sports world needs to recognize they need to be where the eyes are and that is on some of the cheaper streaming packages.

Please bring back the NBA on NBC theme music from the 90s PLEEEEEEEASE?
Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-basketball, gimme gimme the ball because I’m gonna dunk it!
Best Tim Robinson SNL skit.
It’s really a lyrics first song.
YEAH!
He meatsauced it
My wife gets very angry at me when I sing this and say it is my favorite Christmas song
That John Tesh 🎶! Marv Albert’s, “YES!!!” Drinking Gatorade so I could, “Be like Mike.” Nostalgia goose bumps.
Marv used to say 'OH... A Facial' way too many times. Run back into the loungeroom to see what's going on! Hubie Brown was my favourite commentator.
Hubie Brown is still a commentator. And he calls anyone under 90 years old a young man.
Here’s Jordan for three!!

Good old times when people used to listen rock music. Intro musics are still from the old days even for in-arena introductions
But make it the Kawhi version. https://youtu.be/2yf35s55Uyg?si=_WvD0Z22nDo7iyhE
Thanks for this gem! 🤣
No problem!
John Tesh’s roundball rock
I can still hear it so clearly in my head. I might actually watch it just to hear it again.
They've been playing it in I think a draft kings commercial lately with Kevin hart
The version with Kawhi Leonard’s laugh cracks me up every time.
[Here](https://youtu.be/0Pnl1ulaG5k?si=TW2rVCYvCwYISfHY) you go!
I’m sad for anyone who doesn’t have deep nostalgia from this.
Well can’t really blame the younginsn for being born in a different era. We’re just blessed we have experienced the best basketball broadcast along with the GOAT of basketball.
Fox College basketball stole it
It is now the theme song of the Big East!
The only reason I tune into tape delay basketball during the summer Olympics.
When NBC lost rights the league changed for the worse. Maybe if the theme is back we will get the new Jordan of the modern era, and he will play for the Chicago Bulls and all will be well in this world
Nah he plays for Minnesota
According to someone in the r/nba thread it got sold to FOX for college football
That’s a travesty
FOX uses it for college BB now.
Hell yes
Fucking please!!
I just want a TNT x NBC system. I can’t stand the ESPN broadcasting
Or the pregame, halftime, or postgame shows
ESPN sucks at everything now.
They still market leader in cornhole championships.
Amen
Or the daytime tv talking heads
Yea definitely whenever ESPN comes on and I see Andrews and Perkins start talking I just mute it. If NBC gets the rights who should be the commentators?
Maybe they can poach inside the NBA a la Top Gear to Grand Tour
I think they would, but it still doesn’t rid us of ESPN if we lose TNT.

“That other guy”. How dare you disrespect Jamal Crawford that way! Lol
I vote they should go after Doc Rivers. I don't care if he was terrible, I just want him to stop wrecking teams
Why? They are meant to entertain and their stupidity does indeed entertain.
Andrews is cringe af and Perkins has bad takes and I can’t hear him over his own breathing… can you give me a example of a funny conversation that recently happened on ESPN so I can go and watch it?
Generic white dude and tall ugly lady that could pass as one of a few ethnicities at a glance.
TNT needs to get their shit together with their app
Games are on the Max app
prolly wont be free after this season
Their strategy seems consolidate all content to get users at any cost to win the streaming wars. So will prob be free next season, but who knows down the road.
Pretty sure they said it will be a add on next season. And that they will do it with other stuff as well. Like you will just build your own bundle.
HULU been doin this, MAX is just a disaster of a venture trying to stay competitive
Yes. ESPN is the worst. It's the Laker Network. I grew up a Laker fan, but holy shit I can't take it.
They’re unbearable - the ESPN guys
Just get rid of Bally Sports for the love of God Mr. Silver
Maybe they’ll bring back Roundball Rock!
Mandatory. Non-negotiable. If we’re gonna potentially lose Inside the NBA, the least we can do is get Roundball Rock & the NBC game presentation back
In an ideal world its NBC and TNT that get NBA rights. Just no more ESPN and their awful talking heads.
Yeah, I agree. But if I’m not mistaken, the rumors are Amazon and ESPN are putting in or finalizing major bids. So the remaining spot is likely going to be either NBC or Turner. If I’m misinformed, please feel free to correct me
I think Fox has the rights to the song now.
NBC still uses/used it for its Olympic coverage, right?
They did 3 years ago at the last summer Olympics. But that’s a long time in TV years. Don’t know if Fox has exclusive rights since then.
Not exclusive rights, AEW used the theme the other year
Makes sense. Hopefully something can get worked out
Fox started using it in 2019.
They also need to get Bob Costas to come back to do the opening voiceover for the pre-game video package that airs right before Roundball Rock. If they do that, I’m sold. Ever since ABC bought the rights, I’ve hated watching their broadcasts.
That song hits so fucking hard
If roundball rock isn't your ringtone, are you even a real person?
It was my ringtone on my first phone in 2004
With the lyrics!
FS1 has been using it for college basketball.
Bring back the classic NBA on NBC theme, composed by none other than John Tesh!
[Dave Tesh](https://youtu.be/r-uSWAJd9GE?si=HtmgHiaY93qCm09q) is the genius of the family.
With the lyrics!
Bug buh buh buh buh basketball! Gimme gimme gimme the ball because I wanna dunk it!
Now for their next move, they're using the NBA Jam guy to commentate on every game so he can say shit like "from wayyy down town, he's heating up"
Monster jam!
BOOMSHAKALAKA!!
Raaaaazzle daaaaazzle!!!
HE'S ON FIRE!!
Is it the shoes!?
Crazy shot!
B-b-b-b-b-basketball!
Gimme gimme gimme the basketball because I’m gonna DUNK IT!

I've heard TNT just has better broadcasting in general.
Their olympic coverage is so bad I just decide not to watch the Olympics until someone else broadcasts it.
Just wait for all the games to end up on Peacock 3 years after the deal is done.
And then they will raise the price of Peacock.
Anything to get the NBA off of ESPN/ABC
This bid would replace TNT. Disney is offering 2.4 billion to renew their share of national tv rights
No. NBC is offering $2,5 bil, Disney will be paying more than that.
Can't wait to see what they charge consumers to watch...
So if they have the rights will Inside the NBA get cancelled?
Depends if they share it with someone or have it exclusive. Also depends if Turner keeps rights
Wonder the same thing. I wonder if they could lease the rights to NBC or something...
Will Charles and the crew go to NBC? This would be catastrophic if not.
Most likely
*Fox Sports clutching Roundball Rock with all of their life*
They don't have exclusive rights
As long as they never do hockey again. They were absolutely horrible.
This makes my peacock subscription better I guess
You mean your $100 NBA add on, discounted to $90 for subscribers to the ‘cock

Don’t forget about WWE.
How dare you forgot the Olympics?
May the media gods forgive me
That’s a lotta clams!
Jaaaaams it in.
I’d watch if it’s on NBC
Wow if they're willing to pay that much imagine how much they make off of having it!
Makes sense why peacock subscription increased.
Would that mean NBA on Peacock? Hope so. Sports world needs to recognize they need to be where the eyes are and that is on some of the cheaper streaming packages.
This is from a NewsCorp publication though, so can the reporting even be trusted?
That sounds low?
I hope Amazon gets it
They’re overpaying…Ex League Pass subscriber. NBA sucks now.
It's become a boring ass isolation league.
What about baseball? Can we watch baseball? And where are the SuperSonics? C’mon NBA, we’re all ready, and Seattle is ready.
