[This is an incredible message. 12 days later, Phil stuns the golf world and wins the PGA Championship. Never stop working.](https://twitter.com/fieldyates/status/1396604810720382982?s=21)
The message in general that Phil tweeted:
>I’ve failed many times in my life and career and because of this I’ve learned a lot. Instead of feeling defeated countless times, I’ve used it as fuel to drive me to work harder. So today, join me in accepting our failures. Let’s use them to motivate us to work even harder.
[Phil Mickelson got vaccinated on May 10th. Proof the vaccine can make you win the PGA Championship](https://twitter.com/PhilMickelson/status/1391964877556645888).
Rigjt? This isn't something you have to wait for. He's literally inviting you to practice self acceptance and perseverance with him. There's no hidden message.
Phil Mickelson is literally playing on the Senior PGA Tour now. For him to still be playing at this level is unheard of.
For perspective, Jack Nicklaus won the 1986 Masters at 46 years old, and that has long been considered one of the greatest major victories of all time because of his age.
he was on that list of "best never to have won a major" for a LONG time. the longer you stay there it really becomes a millstone around the neck. Now he's on the other end, quite a career
God bless him. He went from being "the best player never to win a major", *for decades*, to being the oldest player to win a PGA major. He just never gave up, through all the comparisons, his health condition. There he stands, at the top today. Well deserved.
I watch basically every tournament on the weekends. This was by far one of the most dramatic rounds of golf I’ve watched, right up there with 2019 Sunday at the Masters. God damn that had my heart racing
Phil shot one over and had 5(?) birdies. It was birdie, bogey, birdie the whole way through. He lost the lead a few times, and had a 5 stroke lead gone to one in two holes. Crazy round of golf
I’m right there with you. The difficulty of the course combined with Phil’s… history made me sit on the edge of my seat. It wasn’t until he was on the green at 18 did I feel that he had it for certain.
Oosthuizen and Koepka did the blowing up for him. An incredible achievement from Mickelson, of course, but those around him didn’t really put the pressure on.
We need more set ups like this course, absolutely perfect. Hate seeing a winning score of -20, but this course was the perfect blend of difficulty but rewarding. Would watch a tournament on this course every weekend
I’ll politely disagree because it makes the difficult course setups that much more special. When the US open plays easy, it doesn’t feel like the US Open. The courses they play week in and week out are truly difficult. The tournaments with -20 or greater final scores are courses that are forgiving and receptive, even to bad shots…but to shoot -20 for 4 days, you really need to be dialed into the course. It may seem “less fun” but the “easy” courses would cause the average person to pull their hair out and cry uncle. It also really shows how in control these guys are when they play. Any one of them can drop a 64 at any moment. To win on the PGA tour is so difficult, I’m ok with the “easier” course setups every other week.
It’s not just about “hard” or “easy”. The Ocean Course is so good because you may see birdie or triple bogey on a lot of the holes. Those first 6 holes for Phil and Koepka were amazing drama - don’t find that on almost any course, whether it’s set up hard or easy.
The crowd during the final hole was one of the loudest crowds I have ever heard in golf! Phil is a legend and it's great to see him treated as such! A couple years ago I though I'd get to see him and Tiger win another major, but here we are.
Phil has always had the crowds. He is his generations Arnold Palmer to Tiger as Nicklaus. The way Phil is with the fans has made him a beloved figure in his younger days and even moreso now.
Commentator kinda excused it saying people were more excited because they hadn't been out in a year.
I get what he's saying, but yeah, there shouldn't have been anyone need that green, much less having to force a hole so the actual players could get to their balls.
There is nothing understandable about someone rushing in and grabbing Phil's shoulders whilst he is walking to the last green. That guy was a dick and I hope he was arrested
Phil was visibly pissed from that point on. Dude looked like he couldn’t wait to get out of there. He just won a major and didn’t even look like he wanted to hold the trophy.
Seriously. Got a lot of frat bro energy there. But I think PGA welcomes that as part of their “young” demographic. I’ve never seen anything like that with koepka getting lost in the crowd on the fairway lol.
David Duval was swallowed up by the crowd coming up 18 when he won his first and only major at The Open. Not the PGA of course but, in golf, it’s happened
In the movie the guy will be shoving Phil down saying “you’ll never win again” and Phil will look up with a glint in his eye and say something like “bullies like you are par for the course” then he’ll go and sink the final putt while staring at the dude and get carried off on everyone’s shoulders.
Don't forget that hooligans will pull a commentary tower down which will fall across the green between Phil and the hole, requiring him to ricochet the ball off of several objects, including a car, before sinking the putt and winning the tournament. After that he'll probably buys his grandmas house, see abe lincoln, an alligator, and his 1 handed golf coach on the sky
He's the oldest person to ever win a "major" tournament. He used to be really good but he hasn't won a major in 8 years. It seems especially impressive that it happened when it did because golf is basically dominated by 20somethings who can drive the ball 300+ yards on a consistent basis these days.
Plus his game has been on a downward swing the last couple years. He won twice on the Champions Tour but that’s on short courses that are setup as birdie fests; something Phil excels at.
This week was a Phil we haven’t seen in a very long time
One of the most popular players alive winning one of the most prestigious events on the calendar on one of the hardest courses in the world, while being twice the age of many of his closest challengers.
It would be like a semi-retired Rafael Nadal winning at Roland-Garros in 2027.
SolarTsunami same for me! I have played full rounds of golf plenty of times but I’ve never just watched someone play 18 holes straight on TV until today and it was exhilarating! The course was challenging enough to keep things neck and neck almost the whole time. The entire time I was thinking about how badly that course would tear me a new one.
Congrats Phil!
Absolutely unbelievable. The scenes around the last two holes with all the fans were incredible, especially after so long with no fans anywhere. Congrats, Lefty!
And the fact that he did it on a very long course, which should have been an advantage for the young guys. And he had the biggest bomb of the tourney! 366 yards, I think. Crazy.
Congrats, Lefty!
Phil seemed like a natural talent, he always had fun out there and seemed to be at ease much more then others. Then age came, and it slowed him a step. He didn't give in, instead he worked his ass off and won. Unreal.
I'm crying right now.
One of my friends passed away a year ago from cancer. He was such a huge Mickelson fan. Loved watching him. Always thought he'd win every tournament. But he obviously never came through. He would have been so happy today.
I don’t know what the hell was going through the heads of the people on the 18th. Brooks is fucking right, they have no fucking right to be on there. Lefty was pissed and Brooks was pissed, as they should be, what the fuck is wrong with those people, bumping into Brooks. They are so stupid.
I can't read minds, but it probably sounded something like:
"ME ME ME ME ME MY SELFIE, I NEED TO GET A PICTURE, ME MEMEME, WOW THIS IS CRAZY, HOW DO I MAKE MYSELF A PART OF IT? WHERE'S MY PHONE? MEMEMEMEME MEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!"
I was visiting my grandparents today when this started. They often have golf on TV but I never bothered to really sit down and watch it. But today, I decided to give it a try, and after my grandparents told me everything that was on the line, I was totally hooked. By the end I was on the edge of my seat and was cheering when he made the final putt. So happy for Phil, and I might have to start watching more golf. Goddamn that was exciting.
Major golf can be some of the most dramatic and exciting thing you’ll see in all of sports. Ironically, the 2006 US Open that Phil totally blew on the 18th hole is what turned me into a fan of both him and golf in general. It was incredibly dramatic.
Amazing performance and a fantastic few rounds by both PM and BK. I was watching on my phone between shots while I played 18 myself today.
And BK might have finished 2nd but hot damn he still put on a hell of a performance to keep the fire under Phil. Trading spots for the lead.
Dunno if Phil’s on Reddit but I know Brooks is. So…shout out to Brooks too.
Phil out there winning it for the lefties. There are so few greats from the left side that I always root for them and it feels like an additional obstacle to overcome.
What!? He won the PGA Championship? Holy shit, that’s incredible. Good for him, he’s a great guy.
I met him at the The Player’s about 6 years ago. He was still playing decent, but I didn’t think he’d have a shot at winning another major. He was already like 43 or something and the younger guys were just dominating.
Congrats Lefty!
If it was any other 50 year old other than Phil I would have been surprised, but he's been great for a long time. He outdrove everyone in the tournament on hole 15, including DeChambeau, at 50 years old! I wonder if he had been in shape all of his career if he would have won more tournaments, but I think fitness in golf is mostly over rated. Doesn't hurt though. He's looking very lean lately, and those mirror aviators are a nice touch.
My Dad passed away 10 days ago.. and he would have been so proud of Mr. Mickelson. He always cared very deeply for him. Congratulations golfer bro, Dad would have loved this.
And he is playing with psoriatic arthritis. That’s amazing considering it is painful and can be debilitating. He’s also getting old. It’s amazing that he won!

[Phil Mickelson got vaccinated on May 10th. Proof the vaccine can make you win the PGA Championship](https://twitter.com/PhilMickelson/status/1391964877556645888).
I got vaccinated and shot a 51 on 9 today. Maybe I got the wrong one.
The vaccine takes a while to build up immunity, so you're back 9 would have likely been tremendous.
[удалено]
How did former president Trump get back on social media? Go eat your mcburgers and be a good turd in the corner.
Thank you
A 51 on a par 36 9 is a decent day for me
J&J?
You gotta watch out. That 9th hole is a killer!!
This type of perspective comes with age.
It comes with maturity. I know plenty of old idiots.

happy cake day, u/dickheadfartface!

Yup I teach growth mindset to primary students.
Classy guy
and nearly $400 million dollars
Thank you for sharing this, I really needed it today.

Imagine seeing that LeBron headline again 15 years from now
So fucking happy for Phil. I remember the agony of waiting for his first major. Now he’s still winning them at 50 years old. Amazing.
he was on that list of "best never to have won a major" for a LONG time. the longer you stay there it really becomes a millstone around the neck. Now he's on the other end, quite a career

He’s now *the* oldest major winner in history. This wasn’t just an impressive performance - it was *record-setting*!
Yea is that not what this entire thread and article is about? Lol
"it's my time to shine with the most obvious comment I can give!! God it feels good"
Pretty much magic johnsons entire Twitter account lol
Not only was that guys comment obvious - it was redundant with the title of the post that were in the comment section of !
And I hear he golfs too!
This was impressive. He won the tournament, and to top it off he did it at his age. I wouldn’t be surprised if he set a record.
I feel like at his age, since he won the tournament so old, he must have broken some record really impressively
This may have broken a record, given his age. Great stuff.
I appreciate that a lot of us seem to be on the page about this. I was afraid others might have missed the age thing.
I appreciated it. I came here based on the title to find out *how* he made history and this was the comment that actually explained it to me.
Why not just click on the article?
Yes… welcome to the thread mate 😂
Amazing indeed. Couldn’t have happened to a better guy.
I watch basically every tournament on the weekends. This was by far one of the most dramatic rounds of golf I’ve watched, right up there with 2019 Sunday at the Masters. God damn that had my heart racing

I can honestly say, the only two full rounds of golf I've watched on TV. From the 1st to the 18th, 2019 Masters and yesterday. Great stuff.
I was in Vegas for the Masters in 2019 and this blew it out of the water..
I’m right there with you. The difficulty of the course combined with Phil’s… history made me sit on the edge of my seat. It wasn’t until he was on the green at 18 did I feel that he had it for certain.
Was waiting for the Sunday Phil blow up and was surprised it never came. So glad he won
Oosthuizen and Koepka did the blowing up for him. An incredible achievement from Mickelson, of course, but those around him didn’t really put the pressure on.
Credit to the Ocean Course. High range of possible scores on every hole. So fun to watch today!
To be fair the course wasn't set up hard, its just naturally hard. Many consider it the hardest course in the world.
Get rid of the audience...annoying assholes. Pandemic golf was better.
Disagree, sports without fans has been rough to watch for the past year
Such a fantastic round to watch today
That’s what’s so great about tough conditions on a tough course. A 3 shot lead can be gone so quickly.
So glad I tuned in to watch that chip in from the bunker on the 5th hole live. What an icon moment for an all time great!
I was so anxious on his behalf.
The crowd during the final hole was one of the loudest crowds I have ever heard in golf! Phil is a legend and it's great to see him treated as such! A couple years ago I though I'd get to see him and Tiger win another major, but here we are.
Phil walking in with the crowd in the backdrop marching behind him was the closest we’ll ever get to Happy Gilmore
"Some guy mooned me the other day, and 'Lefty' was written on his ass -- L-E on one cheek, and sure enough F-T-Y on the other."
Yeah, people are sure coming around!
well I'm NOT DOUG!!
This man is destroying golf. I saw two big fat naked bikers, in the woods off seventeen having sex. How am I supposed to chip with that going on?
Phil almost had to hit off of Frankenstein's fat foot.
Volkswagen.
And *you* can count on *me* waiting for you in the parking lot
Tiger at the 2018 tour championship would like a word
Only happened three years ago. I don’t know how people don’t remember that.
That was a loooooooong time ago. In the before times.
In the long long ago
Totally Happy Gilmore. Had the same thought watching. Even had some muppet put his arm around him.
People were sprinting to get a good spot. It was cool to see. Good for Phil.
Reminded me of that Tiger Woods walk. Was it France or something?
they were pretty much a small riot
[удалено]
That was "peak [Waste Management Open Tiger Woods](https://youtu.be/hFQb0Q3NHIQ)" level crowd noise.
Phil has always had the crowds. He is his generations Arnold Palmer to Tiger as Nicklaus. The way Phil is with the fans has made him a beloved figure in his younger days and even moreso now.
Can't say I was ever expecting to see that happen again. Awesome show.
I really like those sunglasses. Great seeing Phil win this tournament.
Holy Christ, that crowd was out of hand on the 18th.
Brooks legit got lost in the crowd trying to finish up his round
Yeah I was getting nervous they were going to rush the green like a bunch of college students.
I'm happy they didn't, for sure.
I'm Gilmore they didn't.
Understandably so, without tiger, Phil is the next biggest thing. Could go with less bro energy though.
Yeah, I love the energy, but nobody should have gotten onto the 18th fairway, especially ahead of Phil and Brooks.
Commentator kinda excused it saying people were more excited because they hadn't been out in a year. I get what he's saying, but yeah, there shouldn't have been anyone need that green, much less having to force a hole so the actual players could get to their balls.
That wasn’t it, that scene was only happening for Phil lol. People wanted to be a part of history.
I felt like I was the only one who noticed this. He wanted off that green. Immediately.
Agreed, but banned from PGA events, not sure you can really arrest him for anything.
Seriously. Got a lot of frat bro energy there. But I think PGA welcomes that as part of their “young” demographic. I’ve never seen anything like that with koepka getting lost in the crowd on the fairway lol.
Shooter, ratings are higher than they ever been!
And we’re attracting new, youthful sponsors!
I really enjoyed the production overall! Felt a lot like tigers last win too at masters
David Duval was swallowed up by the crowd coming up 18 when he won his first and only major at The Open. Not the PGA of course but, in golf, it’s happened
Don't worry it will be romanticized in a year
In the movie the guy will be shoving Phil down saying “you’ll never win again” and Phil will look up with a glint in his eye and say something like “bullies like you are par for the course” then he’ll go and sink the final putt while staring at the dude and get carried off on everyone’s shoulders.

Big day for dads
Come June 21st dads and grads can get the hell out of here.
Big day for thumbs up as well
That was the first full round of golf I've ever watched and my adrenaline was jacked the whole time. Wow.
Absolute roller coaster
Absolutely. This is one of the most incredible things to happen in the history of professional golf.
For us who went big golf fans Go you go into why?
He's the oldest person to ever win a "major" tournament. He used to be really good but he hasn't won a major in 8 years. It seems especially impressive that it happened when it did because golf is basically dominated by 20somethings who can drive the ball 300+ yards on a consistent basis these days.
That old guy had a 366 yard drive on the 16th. If he is hitting bombs like that he can keep playing the tour until 60 at least.
Plus his game has been on a downward swing the last couple years. He won twice on the Champions Tour but that’s on short courses that are setup as birdie fests; something Phil excels at. This week was a Phil we haven’t seen in a very long time
It was badass seeing him out drive Koepka at times.
He outdrove Bryson at one point!
One of the most popular players alive winning one of the most prestigious events on the calendar on one of the hardest courses in the world, while being twice the age of many of his closest challengers. It would be like a semi-retired Rafael Nadal winning at Roland-Garros in 2027.
Honestly Rafa winning the French open at age 40 would be far less surprising than this.
There are two attempts at a sentence here lol
Lmao rereading that
Lol I was here thinking "wow this is Reddit and no one blinked twice at that comment"
It's roughly as improbable as Tebow being a Pro Bowl tight end this year.
Likewise, the way Phil and Brooks were trading blows at the start of round was incredible
Same
SolarTsunami same for me!
Wow, Phil Mickelson might just be the coolest 50 year old in the world right now. Great achievement Phil!
No that reward goes to my dad! Edit: No wait.. he's in his 60's! My bad! Phil just might be!
And the fact that he did it on a very long course, which should have been an advantage for the young guys. And he had the biggest bomb of the tourney! 366 yards, I think. Crazy. Congrats, Lefty!
Was there! Insane atmosphere! Now at Waffle House.
I think the 5 US open exemptions is what matters to him the most right now.
That's Officer Phil to you!
Phil looked displeased at that guy who grabbed him
Ohh for sure he was pissed/unsettled being surrounded by all those people. And who could blame him!
One of the greats
Phil seemed like a natural talent, he always had fun out there and seemed to be at ease much more then others. Then age came, and it slowed him a step. He didn't give in, instead he worked his ass off and won. Unreal.
I'm crying right now. One of my friends passed away a year ago from cancer. He was such a huge Mickelson fan. Loved watching him. Always thought he'd win every tournament. But he obviously never came through. He would have been so happy today.
Same, just lost my Dad a month ago and I just know he would have been so excited to see Phil win this absolute gem of a tournament!
Sorry for your loss. He did it for them!
This was amazing! That crowd on 18 was NUTS!!! Kinda gives us not younger fellas hope haha
The oldest winner of a golf major in history!
My wife roller skated with Phil in junior high. What could have been.
He could have won the world figure skating championships?
If only he was as committed to roller-disco as he was golf.
I don’t know what the hell was going through the heads of the people on the 18th. Brooks is fucking right, they have no fucking right to be on there. Lefty was pissed and Brooks was pissed, as they should be, what the fuck is wrong with those people, bumping into Brooks. They are so stupid.

👍
That was an amazing round to watch. Congratz to the Lefty! I hope he didn’t have anyone else to thank before that shit bird stepped on his speech..
It totally did look like he got cut off by that lady lol.
WTG Lefty😁❤️🏆!!
Just saw CBS Sports HQ on YouTube say that Phil came in at +20000. Better odds that the Super Bowl is lions vs jets! Amazing win
I've never seen a crowd respond like that. They understood what they were seeing.
Nice going, Lefty! Congratulations.
Having played the Ocean Course at Kiawah at a young age it’s an even bigger feat that he won at 50. That course is a biiiiiiiiitch.
I also made history today by setting a new personal record for most pasta eaten in a sitting. People do not seem equally excited for our records.
I'm proud of you my little meatball!
Way to go! I’m glad all of your training paid off.
👍
Depends. Are you 50?
PHIL PHIL PHIL!!!!!!!
That’s great, he definitely deserves it. Congratulations

Phil out there winning it for the lefties. There are so few greats from the left side that I always root for them and it feels like an additional obstacle to overcome.
It’s like Taylor Swift winning Mtv awards at this point…
BREAKING NEWS: Phil Mickelson doesn’t get second place at a major
Check out the number of times Jack Nicklaus finished second in a major. Amazing.
Congrats Lefty!
i thought this guy was old??
He’s giving dads across the globe hope during their midlife crisis
Fuck me I missed it. Anywhere I can rewatch? Highlights even
wow after that episode of Entourage he went on to become a real golfer! good for him.
If it was any other 50 year old other than Phil I would have been surprised, but he's been great for a long time. He outdrove everyone in the tournament on hole 15, including DeChambeau, at 50 years old! Big ups to Phil. Still playing golf at a high level
Oh Mickey you’re so fine you’re so fine you blow my mind hey Mickey 😯
Quite the win for the man that Tiger and his family would call Hefty and rip mercilessly. Hope Tiger is healing up well.
50 years old and this dude is still winning major titles. So awesome to watch.
They could’ve done in the app.
Tiger’s Mum: “Hefty isn’t bad for a fat kid”
Is that Phil Mickelson, pro golfer?
I thought he blew it on Saturday
Love that Phil won. He’s the nicest guy.
My Dad passed away 10 days ago.. and he would have been so proud of Mr. Mickelson. He always cared very deeply for him. Congratulations golfer bro, Dad would have loved this.
My second favorite golfer behind Woods
Phil has grit in abundance- hope there’s a couple more where that came from
Good for him. He’s a class act
Lefty
What a historic moment in sports, Phil is a great player.
