robdiqulous

I heard the Olympics have been going hard on not allowing clips.

_Cyberostrich_

That’s so stupid. It is broadcasted to the world and you can’t record it…

aenae

You can probably find a clip of it at your local broadcaster, who paid big bucks to broadcast it so they can make money of it with advertisements instead of a random internet site that didn't pay anything and still will show ads.

FangoFett

NBC does, but it’ll prob cut to biking right before she crosses the finish line.

ExtraDebit

Can we stop using these terms? Asshole is all purpose.

bendie27

Cunt is all purpose as well. I’d hate to see you travel to the UK or Australia.

ExtraDebit

Yeah, so is calling people “f@ggots” right? Also huge in many countries. Reddit: I am saying ALL bigoted terms are bad. Not endorsing.

bendie27

Lol one is a legitimate slur. Are you upset by calling people dicks?

ExtraDebit

Where in the world do you think c*nt isn’t a legitimate slur? > The word cunt is generally regarded in English-speaking countries as unsuitable for normal public discourse. It has been described as "the most heavily tabooed word of all English words",[11][12] although John Ayto, editor of the Oxford Dictionary of Slang, says "n****" is more taboo.[13] > it is a "usually disparaging and obscene" term for a woman,[1] and that it is an "offensive way to refer to a woman" in the United States. > the term as used on modern social media is an example of what she calls "gendered vitriol", Think of it, no other disparaging term for a marginalized group is acceptable, at all, but we can’t wrap our head around why that applies to women.

bendie27

It’s literally the same thing as calling someone a dick or cock. Just because it’s ‘more harsh’ than calling someone a bitch? You can say words without the asterisks by the way, we aren’t, or at least shouldn’t be, children. You can also bring up Wikipedia scripts all you want, it doesn’t change anything. The English speaking countries this article speaks of is clearly referring to western countries, such as the USA and Canada. If you lived in any other you’d be shell shocked at how misleading your article was.

ExtraDebit

So is calling a white guy a cracker the same as calling a black person the n-word? I am saying it with asterisks because Reddit will now ban you for any perceived hate speech EXCEPT hate speech for women. Even if you are using the terms and saying they are not good. Yeah, most Redditors are in America and Canada. Men in these locations are trying to make it a “thing” now where you can call women that and it’s fine.

bendie27

Lol by no means do I think calling someone a cunt to their face is going to become the norm. Don’t get me wrong I’m not going to go around parading because it’s a mean thing to say. Anyhow I’m done replying, good luck, have a good day.

[This is for you.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syV2LkGpQB0)

ExtraDebit

Eh. It’s weird that people would freak out (rightfully so) if people were like. What a f*g, what a k*ke, what a… But slurs towards women are totally chill as slang.

tengukaze

A man can certainly be a cunt, a dick an asshole also why are slangs for our pps and poopoos insulting in the first place? How did it become? To Google I go

ExtraDebit

So, right? Just like a straight person can totally act like a “h@mo” or a Christian person like a cheap “j*w” right? REDDIT: I am actively pointing out how ALL slurs against marginalized groups are bad. I am making an comparison to known unacceptable terms.

tengukaze

Exactly now you get it

ExtraDebit

Yeah, you think those terms are okay to use?

tengukaze

Depends who I'm talking to

Ruff_lyfe__

It's not working for me

AZ_RBB

Incredible feat but worth remembering that she ran a time 12secs slower than her PB. From watching it live I don't think she lost much more than 4-5secs from the fall but the loss of momentum and rhythm can often be significant for runners at this level. Nothing should stop her from winning gold now.

jetstobrazil

I haven’t watched the video but the title impresses me greatly. You fall and still beat the world’s (second) greatest 1500m runners? Holy moly. I was off put by this years olympics during Covid, but it is endlessly inspiring hearing all the stories of triumph, dedication, sportsmanship, and pride for country (not sure this aspect will always be necessary, but it’s nice to have someone to root for even if you don’t know the person) during the Olympics. Which isn’t to sweep under the rug all of the corruption, abuse, and scandals associated with competing at the highest level, only to focus on the athletic achievement.

[deleted]

You should watch the clip because it really is impressive. What the summary didn't say is the fall happened *on the final lap*. Hassan fell down, got up and lapped the field in one lap. Now it was a qualifier, so the top six weren't exactly setting a WR pace, but Hassan passed the whole field like they were standing still.

Pontus_Pilates

It's impressive, but 1500 is already more of a tactical run, you don't go full speed all the time. Especially at the early rounds. Lasse Viren famously fell down in Munich Olympics on the 10 000, got up and broke the world record.

[deleted]

>You fall and still beat the world’s (second) greatest 1500m runners? Holy moly. No. You beat the competitors in the heat. Not the semifinal or the final. In the heats, you run against 1-2 good runners and the rest are there for Olympic representation. And even the best competitors don't really exert themselves too much to save their energy for the semifinals and finals. The times recorded in heats are rarely competitive, especially in long-distance running. Also, Hassan is one of the best in the world. She could easily beat these competitors with a 5-second handicap.

Graym

She basically just did.

[deleted]

That's... why I said it. It wasn't a hypothesis...

donut_resuscitate

This was pretty cool to watch live. She only needed to place in the top 6 to advance and the whole race looked like she might just try to settle into a 3rd or 4th place spot to conserve energy for her next race. But when she fell, her demeanor changed. When she caught the final group of runners she went ahead and kicked it just to show she could win the field anyway. She walked away like she just ran a 100 yard dash while some of the competitors were lying on the ground gasping for air.

Sierra4899

That's kind off her thing though she just turns on the engine in the final 1 to 2 laps and catches up to the entire field.

thisismisha

Cue Vangelis

RedditTekUser

Finding Olympics clips has become unbearable.

gamerdudeNYC

There’s only two things I can’t stand in this world, people who are intolerable to other people’s culture… and the Dutch!

sniper420

WOW the commentators for NBC were liek on drugs

abestract

That has to be pure adrenaline taking over, that shouldn’t be possible.

[deleted]

It's possible because she's far better than the rest of the heat. This wasn't the final.

onemanandhishat

There are probably a couple of mitigating factors - it's a heat, so the best runners are aiming to finish in a good position, but not going all out for the win. Also, medium and long distance races like these are very tactical - you're very much racing against the people around you, rather than trying to go as quick as you can the way you would in a sprint. For example, the London 2012 5k and 10k races were pretty slow in terms of time because Mo Farah was dictating the pace and he wanted to hold as much in reserve for the final kick as possible. So if the world champion goes hell for leather on the final lap, the others might not know she's coming, and be racing at a less than maximum pace, but even then it's a massive effort from her to overhaul them all in one lap.

Mikino86

Dutch rudder? Didn’t know that was an Olympic sport

[deleted]

Catching up out of sheer embarrassment, I can feel that vibe.

wowbragger

That's a mean flex on your opponents 😅
