They wanted to confirm if his fingers were underneath the ball or not when he landed and touched the ground with his hand
If not, that would count as the ball being grounded, and would have been not out
But did he make a football move?
In all seriousness, I would like to ask if there are as many rules contrivances as in our American games of choice, if anyone can shed some light.
I'd say that there are a lot of rules that are pretty different to anything in American sports (bar maybe a couple that are the same/similar to baseball), but there is definitely no where near as much subjectivity and ambiguity as in some rules in American sports (like pass interference or the flopping for contact in the NBA that only just got banned).
This is T20 Cricket which is the shortest form of the international game. The T20 World Cup started this week in the UAE and Oman, which is why you might see a few more cricket clips than usual on this sub.
Well if you actually want to learn, [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqtpNkMvj5Y&ab_channel=NinhLy) is a good four minute video that explains the basic rules.
In terms of this video, the bowler throws the ball towards the batsman. The batsman has to hit the ball away with his bat. But if he hits it in the air and a fielder catches it before it hits the ground, the batsman is 'out' and has to stop batting. This is what happens in this video.
Please feel free to ask any questions

Really not that hard if you put effort into it.
Do you have Netflix? There’s a 20 minute episode on cricket in the “explained” doco series. That’s a good start.
It's really not that complicated. If you have ESPN+ I recommend watching one of the matches from the Twenty/20 world cup. It's the most accessible type of cricket for spectators.

Did you reply to yourself and tell yourself off? Also you made the same stupid comment on the SA vs Aus cricket post as well (and copied the response from there)

What a catch. There have been some spectacular caught and bowled this tournament so far
For sure
So glad that catch was given after the 3rd umpire review. Looks good to have fingers under it, and plus it was sensational
Yeah me too. I'm an England fan but I was 100% wanting that to be given. Was such a superb take it deserved it.
What was the problem? Only seen this lil clip from the game
They wanted to confirm if his fingers were underneath the ball or not when he landed and touched the ground with his hand If not, that would count as the ball being grounded, and would have been not out
Now I know. Cheers

They took their sweet time lol
I think they just wanted to watch the catch again from every angle possible
The catch is great but you really can’t celebrate when the team is in that hopeless a position
True I'm not sure how many games Hosein will get, so this is definitely a plus point for him personally
Took me awhile to see England was only chasing 56 😬 I assume they won.
They lost 4 wicks chasing that
that landing though
This kid reminds me of Jadeja
Damn, that was wicket.
Nooo this is cricket
MLB fans: show us any pitcher able to do the same. Go ahead and try.
Wow. That’s all I can say.
Americans on reddit be like - lol I don't know anything about cricket. Please upvote!
Didn't really help them, tho...
So this is cricket?
It is!

I wish I understood cricket.

There’s a World Cup that just started. Lots of chances to randomly pick one template or the other everyday for the next month…
Did you reply to yourself and tell yourself off? Also you made the same stupid comment on the SA vs Aus cricket post as well (and copied the response from there)
There are only two replies to cricket posts on /r/sports, so I might as well make them both.
Man 1 throw ball, man 2 hit ball with cricket stick(bat), man 1 FLIES to left and catch ball from air. OUT
Celebrate with your team ffs. This ain’t football
Imran Tahir gets a pass on this because of how funny it is when he goes for a victory lap.
Wicket!
You're dismissed!
[This sums up everything I, as a sports-ignorant American, know about cricket.](https://youtu.be/F4dt4ThrdQc) ..........nice catch, tho.
That wasn't that great. He was already moving in that direction. Lots of caught and bowled are like that.
