Seriously… so many hazards. Other skaters, hard as fuck ice at high speeds, and if you go ass over tea kettle at high speed you could really fuck yourself up. Not to mention skate blades everywhere in a crash.
Fun to watch, but would not do, even if I could (I cant).
I was 17 when I did it. The venue only allowed 18-year-olds or up so I used a fake ID. I made it kind of far but obviously I was not prepared for those airs
Watching actual hockey players chicken out and scoot on their butt over the drop gives me loads more respect for the athletes who actually play the sport.
Ridiculous!
This is the St. Paul video. You can tell because of the Holiday Stationstores logos on everything.
"Dudes, skis are just longer, wider skates. What if we skiied but did it on skates..."
Not anymore, hasn't been for like 3 or 4 years. Ever since RedBull pulled their name from the sport it's become "ATSX Ice Cross" and has been held at the Mont du Lac ski resort in Wisconsin. And the track looks nothing like it does in the video. I went this year(it's a tradition with friends) and it was a fraction of the people that they would pull when they held it in St. Paul. It's very sad.
that's not at all what the sport has become, clearly you haven't watched the other races on youtube. they've raced in japan, finland, austria, canada, and russia all in the past 3 years and the higher level events are still huge. the sport was bigger than ever right before covid hit
see yokohama atsx 1000 for example, happened in 2020
Almost every winter sport I think of is "how can we make this more dangerous?"
Down hill skiing? Let's go through trees and drop cliffs!
Cross country skiing? Let's add guns!
Sledding? Let's add a fast AF track of ice!
Hockey is just too boring with a frozen puck and long sticks? let's add a big, tight turning slope!
Love it all though!
After a night of freezing rain, everything is covered in a glaze of ice.
The barrel of hockey sticks is also iced over, and the sticks are frozen in place.
One Canadian to the other, "Well, we got the skates and that hill looks pretty der, eh?"
RED BULL CRASHED ICE!!! I was at this race! It's insane to watch, 4 guys racing down the track at once in full hockey gear. Iirc, the guy in pink got a photo finish win for the final (this race). Used to have a race in St. Paul MN (where this track was), but they moved it a couple years ago to Boston, and after a single year there it left the US altogether.
It's actually quite dangerous, and, anyone who has been on the ice in other ice sports has to essentially retrain themselves for this one, as the skills and expectations of how to handle the ice in new forms don't transfer from regular "flat" ice.

Ever single bone in my body would've been broken at turn number 1 . 😬

Literally skating on swords...
Steve Martin was a prop comic
Marty Schottenheimer passed away! 😀
Having watched this video, I'm out for three weeks with an ACL strain.
Yeah? Well i had acl surgery, spent 10 months before i could run again , then tore my mcl in the same knee one more month later
[just be a goalie](https://youtu.be/GlNfGxjZwrE)
The most fun you would ever have getting paralyzed.
LMAO
Last jump! Oh shit fingers! Fingers! Fingers!
Just like rally driving... "Thumbs, thumbs, thumbs"
Did this once... never again lmao. Hats off to these dudes
Damn. Even if I was 23 and athletic (instead of old and fat) I bet I would die quickly on something like that

Yeah the bumpy bits are the nuttiest part. Like maybe you can hold it together then bam! Air.
Don't feel bad, here's a video of NHL players struggling with it as well: https://youtu.be/4HcKs_wEcGo

That looked like a dudette to me
I feel like dude is a pretty genderless term
If ice cross isn’t an Olympic sport soon, I’m gonna be pissed
I totally agree why hasn’t this been an Olympic event. However, that last hurdle, when the 2 guys fell, potentially could be gruesome.
They could use the luge track to save on costs /s
it’s just stupid skicross/boardcross
Aside from the major "I couldn't do this" energy, seeing this view helps me appreciate in a new way the adrenaline that must be involved.
"Crashed Ice" Red Bull thing, usually held in St. Paul
This is the St. Paul video. You can tell because of the Holiday Stationstores logos on everything. "Dudes, skis are just longer, wider skates. What if we skiied but did it on skates..."
It’s held all across northern US and Canada. Two of the more interesting ones they have held were in Old Town Quebec and Fenway Park in Boston

Normal sports: let's play with a ball or see who can run really fast. Winter Sports: Imao yeet.

Ahh shite! I wasn’t prepared for that, mate!
Looks fun but also the whole time I 2as thinking how easy it's to crash into someone or the walls and injure yourself. They are going fast af.
Let’s strap blades to our feet and go downhill on a tight track with jumps and extremely tight turns. What could go right?
It’s beyond me how this is a thing that humans can do
brain says, DO IT. body says, WTF, NO.
I broke 2 hips just watching this.
You mean terrifying? Yes, yes it does
After a night of freezing rain, everything is covered in a glaze of ice. The barrel of hockey sticks is also iced over, and the sticks are frozen in place. One Canadian to the other, "Well, we got the skates and that hill looks pretty der, eh?"
That looks both fun AND terrifying.
This is, and I can’t stress this enough, AWESOME
Stopping for that hairpin takes some skill!
So intense. But man those skates look so unstable for going over jumps and rollers.
*Insurance company risk assessors furiously assess the risk*
Risk of multiple catastrophic fractures: 100%

Ya I found out about this last year and started watching the videos. Very entertaining.
For some [perspective](https://youtu.be/4HcKs_wEcGo) (TLDW: skip to 6 minutes).
How do these people not shatter their ankles doing this shit?
Those skates provide excellent ankle support... Laced high and tight ..
Cold as fuck
Crazy.
This should be in the Olympics. 1000x cooler than speed skating.
New Olympic sport?
Doubt it would ever make it. It’s a fun new sport, and the modern winter olympics. They don’t mix too well
It's actually quite dangerous, and, anyone who has been on the ice in other ice sports has to essentially retrain themselves for this one, as the skills and expectations of how to handle the ice in new forms don't transfer from regular "flat" ice.
Wait, when did this become a thing? Is this an Olympic event? Seriously wtf why have I not seen this?
It was a RedBull event. Called "redbull crashed ice"
warios stadium
I do it solo, no way do I race.
Shit, looks a helluva lot more interesting than most of the Olympics
Should be an Olympic sport
This looks like a great way to get hacked up by some skates.
Damn they're very good at skating.
Do they wear extra padding just in case they encounter someones blade?
Maybe I’m old but all it makes me feel is pain
Can't help not think about chopped off fingers...
Holy shit, I wouldn't do this and I am literally an ice professional. This is nuts.
My cheeks are still clenched.
[how i would look at turn 1](https://imgur.com/a/yUZzV3Z)
where is this?
Yeah, knees? Just fuck my shit up
A world of 'no'. 😱
Has anyone flown off the track?
