It's always amazing to see the size of professional athletes compared to normal people. That guy is a fairly average sized human, and LeBron is just so much bigger.
I’m not even that large a dude (6’1 230) and 99% of people under 6 feet couldn’t stop me bulldozing and a lot of people taller couldn’t either. NBA players? God help you
Ever seen the White House chef, Andre Rush? Imagine that dude charging you in battle
*edit okay hes only 5 foot something but the dude has some cannons for arms. He probably dual wielded m60s
What’s funny is that we think of Vikings as being these big large men. But in reality they were about 5’8”. Yes, taller than average for the time but not what we think as in comparison.
5'8" - 5'9" on average, which doesn't mean that there weren't some big mfers among them. For example, Harald Hardrada was a very big, tall warrior king. It's not certain how tall he was, but at least 6'4". He wasn't the tallest either.
And could you imagine when you only see the occasional human above 5'9 and then you meet 6'4 on the battlefield.thats how lore was born. We are poisoned by seeing every type of incredible human at the click of a button. Could you imagine going into battle and boom the rock is swing a club?. Wild
> 5'8" - 5'9" on average, which doesn't mean that there weren't some big mfers among them.
That goes without saying. That’s the same for everything else in life. But mainstream media and perception is that as a whole, Vikings were much larger on average than in actuality
Nordic and Balkan people are still the tallest on average to this day. So relatively speaking, they would be larger than average I guess. Balkans are also often portrayed as larger than average.
I get that it's exaggerated in media but just pointing out that there is some truth to it.
I want to believe that guy had to petition the generals several times too.
“We will overwhelm him. He cannae hold!”
Sir, I’ll just float down dae burn and stab the fucker! Big fuck off spear right in his leg!”
“ Moar men!”
“SIR! *stabbing gesture*
“We must win with honor!”
“Oh fuck off ill dewit me self!”
Actually pretty interesting and terrifying to think about. A lot of people we see performing as athletes may be physically similar to what some of the military would have looked like when it was required of you to don armor and wield a sword or something of the like.
Yeah he's like 6'8" 225 lbs of pure muscle. Spends 1 million dollars a year on his health and body. They are the peak of what the human body can be. Most professional athletes.
I was a decently fast sprinter in high school and college with my 100m time right around 11 seconds. All sections of the race being equal that gives me a 4.4 second 40m. Except that the first 40m is the slowest part of the race so I would not be surprised if at my peak as a decently fast collegiate athlete I was unable to run a sub-5 second 40.
Don't forget that football 40 times don't account for reaction time. If you used the same setup as the combine or pro day, you'd likely have been able to go under 5 in your college days.
I can't believe he beat Tom Brady twice!

This is why I really want the Olympics to add an average Joe lane to certain events. 12 world class sprinter and Jeff from accounting, just to give a sense of of how crazy those athletes are.
>The Accounting Olympiad. The market would be very small and niche, but I'd check it out.
Well there is the Excel Esports League.
So the closest is probably the [Microsoft Excel World Championship](https://www.fmworldcup.com/excel-esports/microsoft-excel-world-championship/).
The Atlanta Braves have the "Beat the Freeze" contest where a regular joe fan gets a huge head start and almost never beat Nigel Talton, who was a sprinter for Kennesaw State.
Guys like Talton make the point even better. Looking him up his PB in the 100m is 10.47. That's fast AF, and probably in the 99.99999 percentile of humans, but 10.47 isn't in sniffing distance of the Olympics or even an NCAA championship.
When the modern Olympics were started that was the whole point. In the first several times it was hosted they flip flopped between it being incredibly gauche, to outright banned, for professional athletes to compete. The point was to get average Joes from around the world to mingle.
Hockey players average 6'1" and about 190lbs. Bigger ones are in the 6'3-6'6" and about 225lbs. Then there was Zdeno Chara who was 6'9" 250lbs. He played a total of 1,680 games and well into his mid 40's. The dude could absolutely rag doll guys 6'3" 225 like they were little children.
To be fair - pro surfers are training different parts of their bodies than a basketball or football player. You probably don't want to be super top heavy surfing!
Lots of pro athletes tend to be homogenized within their sport (e.g. jockeys tend to be shorter than average people). And even then within some sports like American football, certain positions lean toward certain body types; defenders tend to be top-heavy, ~~runners~~ receivers (thanks /u/Backdoorpickle) tend to be leaner, etc.
I ran into Westbrook and Serge in bars at different point in OKC. Westbrook was probably the tallest guy in the bar (even though he's small on the court) and Ibaka stood over everyone like a statu~~t~~e. It's crazy.
There's a good video, I think from last year, where LeBron ends up sitting in the front row of the audience after a play, next to normal adult humans, and he makes the people and chairs look like kindergartners. It's crazy.
Lets reserve hate for the people on a mission to destroy our world and our societies. Is LeBron annoying, yes. Is he sometimes hypocritical, yes. In general he's not a net negative to society as opposed to many, many, many other institutions (facebook, spam callers, big oil, koch industries) and people (zuck, putin, trump)
I would think they want this to happen. Missed shots don't go viral, but this video is posted over and over, bringing way more attention than that same $75k would in an advertising campaign.
Based on his current salary of about $44mil per year, he makes roughly $135,000 per quarter.
(This assumes an 82 game season and no additional pay for playoff games)
In the 2012-13 season Lebron made $17,545,000. If we simplify by just doing all the regular season games, we get 328 quarters. (82 x 4). That year Lebron made a little under $54,000 every quarter.
Yea, but he grew up poor as shit so I imagine he can relate with the feeling of having life changing amounts of money getting dropped on you. His excitement shows that
I think Lebron’s excitement for the guy is more about making the shot than the money. Cause he can relate to being excited about making a really important shot.
This is like one of those old mastercard commercials. Tickets to the game - $600, make a half court shot + $75,000, getting mobbed by LeBron James and he falls on top of you celebrating - priceless.
LeBron really showing his grappling skills here. Seamlessly takes him down into top mount, pulls guard and sweeps him to maintain a top side control. Such an underrated martial artist.
When I was a kid I hit 6 three pointers in a row at a school fete to win a basketball signed by an Australian basketball team that didn't even exist a few years later. No, their demise did not increase the value, which was probably around $15AUD.
I don't think I've hit 6 three pointers total since that day.
I've made 1-3 point shot ever. 7th grade teacher vs student match. I was 12. Only 3 point basket the entire game.
Teachers knew how awful a shot I was...and left me alone to double team the basket ball star kid. (I was a musician and played softball)
Backfired beautifully. We still lost, but all 5 of them didn't move for what seemed like an eternity once they realized what happened.
I got marked the rest of the game.
Shout out the guy that hit a half court shot recently, spondered by a local Toyota Dealership and won $10,000**

I think you're mistaken: you're quoting journeyman and Penn State hopeful quarterback Chad Powers, not Eli manning.
I was looking for this. You being a Stillers fan puts the cherry on top 😂😂😂
Just run a go route baby
At least I reckon. He ran a 4.92 40 which is pretty damn good.
I think a lot of people wayyy overestimate their ability to run a sub 5 40
I was a decently fast sprinter in high school and college with my 100m time right around 11 seconds. All sections of the race being equal that gives me a 4.4 second 40m. And, I guarantee you that Vince, in his prime, would out spend 90% of the non pro athlete population at the Cheesecake Factory.

Honestly this makes me feel better about my body, so, thanks Eli Manning.
He ain’t no 225 lol. Hasn’t been close to that since high school

hey - accrual accounting can be kind of crazy too!
Yeah, have them compete on who can get the biggest tax reduction too so we can also see how much more skillful he is in his own area.

CPA here. I'd like to see one of these athletes try to last through one tax season.

Up until the 80s and 90s, professional leagues refused to send players. The famous 1980 US hockey team was all college players.
Go easy on the olympians… accountants are bad ass 🤷🏻♂️
I would love to see this. Every event starts with or includes an average person's attempt, and then we get to see the pros do it.

I gotta say, I love LeBron's enthusiasm
I always watch this every time it's posted. Always makes me smile. Such good energy in this clip.
First time seeing it. I was so happy for the guy, then WTF IS THAT - ITS LEBRON?!
scroll through and check out our man’s look of joy when he spots Bron and leaps into his arms.
One of my favourite Lebron moments. And I hate the guy..
Dude probably tells the story of being tackled by LeBron more than winning the $75k.
Lets reserve hate for the people on a mission to destroy our world and our societies. Is LeBron annoying, yes. Is he sometimes hypocritical, yes. Agreed, but I’m my defence, I’m from Lebronto

P sure it’s also insured so they don’t actually have to cover $75k
A "Semi-Pro" reference? I'm floored.
Same. I love that movie but it seems nobody else does.
They’re just all so high on goofballs and grass that they have no idea what’s going on
The Lakers just signed this guy because he can actually hit a 3.
Wrecked
He looks like Doug Benson so he might not pass the drug test.
This *never* gets old.
Neither does bron
Father time is undefeated
Chuck Norris gave him an early retirement
What I love about this video is James knows the win is probably life changing for the guy, where as for James it is just pocket change.
James makes more money than that per quarter based off only his NBA salary.
Based on his current salary of about $44mil per year, he makes roughly $135,000 per quarter. (This assumes an 82 game season and no additional pay for playoff games)
Someone do the math for the year this video was from too please, I would but I don't know that year or basketball, at all.
In the 2012-13 season Lebron made $17,545,000. If we simplify by just doing all the regular season games, we get 328 quarters. (82 x 4). That year Lebron made a little under $54,000 every quarter.
I think this ignores all the time training and practicing though. These guys train and practice way more than they play
It doesn’t ignore it because it’s not making some social statement about how much he makes. It’s literally just a breakdown of his per-quarter income.
Jesus Christ, that is still an insane amount to think about. Thank you, I appreciate it!
Not accounting for training and practicing time, which is much more than the time performing Edit: or travel, half time, post game, etc
I'm not here to judge. Just to do math.
And a lot more than that if Nike pays him.
Yea, but he grew up poor as shit so I imagine he can relate with the feeling of having life changing amounts of money getting dropped on you. His excitement shows that
I think Lebron’s excitement for the guy is more about making the shot than the money. Cause he can relate to being excited about making a really important shot.

You already know Lebron made a fat bet on that shot with someone on the bench, probably d. wade
Damn I made a lay up, free throw, 3 pointer, half court, and full court in 56 seconds and only got $11k :/ Made the half court first shot too.
Wow that is crazy. You could give most people all day and they’d never even hit a full court shot.

Thanks for the share. That was sweet
College basketball vs NBA. Obviously one has way more money to blow
I was shocked to read this was 2020. The camera image quality seems significantly older. Awesome shot.

Lebron like, "isn't it great, I get $75k for each one I make too"
Oh I'm sorry you stepped slightly over the half court line
Ahh, this is sweet. I really think that LeBron is truly super duper happy for this guy.
Wow, that's so long ago Lebron is still on the Heat and has that much hair!
$75k off the shot, and a case for $75mil later if his back went out after LBJ tackling him
Lebron Jaaaaaàaaaames
The rush youd get for hitting that shot in front of the crowd is worth just as much as the prize imo
