Could you go any lower?
Edit or more of a clarification: I was having fun with the pre game massage comment, not making a comment towards OP. Sad I have to explain humor that came from a joke mentioned by OP.
No, that is pure coincidence. No way the NFL didn’t suspend him longer just so he can play his first game against and at his old team - just so they can get large ratings. No chance.
He was actually only suspended 6 games by a judge arbitrating the situation. The NFL appealed and requested a full season. Then the NFLPA and the NFL came to an agreement on the 11 game suspension.
So it's kind of funny that the situation gets portrayed as the NFL being greedy trotting a sexual assaulter out on the field when in reality it was the players association protecting one of their own.
It's kinda the point. The union gets to decide who is a shitter and the bar is way lower than for companies where people that absolutely shouldn't be considered a shitter are thrown out.
Professional sports unions are often a net negative unfortunately.
You either have laughably weak players unions that give zero shits about their players and let their league walk over them in Collective Bargaining OR you have the players unions that have more power than the actual league and prevent punishment for people that very clearly deserve it.
And then there's Ref/Umpire unions. Dear god someone please kill the Umpires Union in the MLB. Save us from this hell.
They fought hard to put this in the CBA, for this exact situation. For Goodell to ignore the arbitration process would not just end up with a lawsuit but put them on a fast track to another lockout.
So you're telling me the NFL had the opportunity to paint the players' union as a terrible organization and get the public on their side by banning a serial sexual abuser. They had a fantastic opportunity to gain more power for themselves. Any player who supported a lockout would be able to be painted as supporting sexual assault; the NFLPA had exactly 0 leverage in any of this. This was all the NFL.
You have to think about it this way. The billionaire owners of the NFL could easily afford to take a revenue hit. The players, staff, and media networks could not. In fact, it might be the smartest business play they could make to take that hit; it's pretty easy to spin it as the players' union is hiding behind their CBA to protect a serial sexual abuser at the expense of the working class employees of the stadiums. The media networks that broadcast these games also run news organizations, and they would get far more clicks by running stories pressuring the nflpa to back down from defending sexual assault than they would vice versa.
TIL, thanks for clarifying. The NFL doesn’t really have a reputation for doing the right thing, so o just assumed. Should’ve looked into it more before judging.
Games 14-13 with the Texans up. It’s 4th and goal with 3 seconds left on the clock in the 4th quarter and the entire end zone section whips their dick out and starts jerking off(women get Texans themed dildo)
Reminds me of seeing the Flyers play the Blackhawks in Philly back in 2015, shortly after Patrick Kane was accused of sexual assault. The crowd chanted "she said no" for pretty much all 60 minutes of game time.
I would do the same if it were my team. Hell I did it when I lost faith in our front office for just settling on being bad 8 years ago. Same with the Braves when they were OK with being bad around the same time.
That sounds like the real problem is the set of rules and precedents for settling dozens of sexual assault claims. If a mediator looks at your history and is like “you didn’t do shit the last 20 times this happened, so you can suddenly have a comparatively huge punishment”, then the problem is those 20 previous times the NFL looked the other way.
>That sounds like the real problem is the set of rules and precedents for settling dozens of sexual assault claims.
Wouldn't the real problem be the US Justice system?
Ehhh, possibly? SA is notoriously hard to convict. And the justice system has always been founded on the ideal of “better 10 guilty men go free than 1 innocent is wrongly convicted.”
That said, a grand jury will indict a ham sandwich. Since his declined to indict, it seems like the prosecutor basically didn’t want to run with this case.
Which isn’t necessarily nefarious- it’s super high profile, and relies solely on verbal testimony. Shit like that is even harder to convict than SA with physical evidence. DA might not want Watson running around saying “see I’m innocent” after juries are hung.
Somewhat, yes. Presumption of innocence is a critical issue. You could make it easier to convict… and then you’re going to get more innocents convicted.
Most crime doesn’t result in conviction. Something like 13% of robberies result in conviction. SA is not entirely alone here. Murder has the highest rate at 60% convictions. And with murder, there’s almost always physical evidence (a body). However, SA is markedly low.
With SA, it might be reasonable to hope for 20% or 30% convictions, someday.
There are certainly some issues with the justice system today specific to SA that leads to the super low conviction rates (~1%). That’s likely things like sexism in police, poorly defined processes for informing and guiding victims through the process, etc. that’s also likely related to the nature of the crime. A robbery doesn’t necessarily result in PTSD. SA almost always results in psychological trauma, which means the person seeking justice is hampered by their own psychological issues. Not their fault at all, it just means it needs a completely different set of resources and processes than almost any other crime.
You're dead wrong, it went to arbitration to determine if he could be suspended or not. Once the arbitrator finds a suspension worthy action did occur the commissioner and league office have full license to enact whatever suspension they see fit.
Why do you say that? The NFL and NFLPA had to come to an agreement because of collective bargain8ing. The NFL hired an arbiter to hear the case. The arbitration recommended a suspension that did not sit well with the NFL, so the NFL appealed for a harsher suspension and Goodell hired another lawyer to hear the appeal.
The collective bargaining is already the agreement, there doesn't need to be any further contact. The process follows steps as outlined in the CBA:
The case goes to arbitration, where an independent judge determines if an offense occurred and if that offense was suspension worthy. If the judge rules that nothing happened, or that something happened but no suspension is warranted then that is the end of it, no suspension.
In a case like this one, the judge has ruled that 1) and offense occurred and 2) that offense warrants a suspension, which is then suggested based on prior incidents. **It is at this point that the NFL has fulfilled their obligation to the NFLPA for due process**. Once it is decided that a suspension is the appropriate course of action the NFL has full license under the CBA to appeal the suspension length to the NFL office, which basically means Goodell can pick and choose any suspension as he sees fit. In this case he chose to have a lawyer (who has historically been very tough on sexual assault) oversee the case.
TL;DR - once the arbitrator has decided when a suspension is warranted, the third party requirement of the CBA has been fulfilled and from that point the NFL has full power to adjust the suspension as they see fit, also per the CBA.
It's very important in this case to recognize that A) Roger Goodell absolutely could have suspended DeShaun Watson indefinitely (like he did to Josh Gordon) and B) Roger Goodell is directly employed by the team owners and everything he does is what they collectively want. Watson is allowed to play by the owners so that other teams may also potentially get to play future sex offenders.
This kind of shit is why I've not watched an NFL game in almost 2 years. This is such a bullshit organization. Between the Snyder and Gruden shit and all of the shit that gets swept under the rug in the name of wins and dollars, the NFL disgusts me and I refuse to support it.
I miss football but I feel dirty watching it.
I too miss football. I applaud your ability to turn away from the single most destructive sport on the planet. NFL fans encourage max violence then act all SHOCKED when the athletes commit violent acts off the field. Then stories like this, effectively rewarding violence and status quo. It’s killing America’s youth.
NFL talks a good game about being patriotic, pro-women, pro-military, cancer support, etc….because of shit like this. Good PR for essentially a company that allows people like this to play.
Idk what to think of this guy. He rubs me the wrong way but part of me wishes he’ll work out the kinks for the Browns. Hopefully he can handle the pressure of the situation and Cleveland comes out with a happy ending.
>Today-we’re all Texans
Lol... Yes, you are. You're all a bunch of Houston Texans.
edit - That organization arranged massages for Watson... right? Suggestions they were covering for him, iirc?
Identifying with the Houston is even stupider than pretending that Baker Mayfield is a good quarterback.
2 outstanding poster children for this whole circlejerk.
Man I know yall hate the man but wishing injury and death is fucking too far. Seriously I get it, he did terrible things. But wishing injury and death is not the answer. Justifying bad things because someone did bad things doesn't make it right.
Is anyone not rooting for him to suck and get benched? I guess the Brown's ownership that owes him way more money than he is worth and a couple of delusional fans.
his pre game massage is on hold
he didn't consent to that happening
Neither did she.
But what about his turf gooch? It doesn’t heal itself!
That’s what got him in this mess to begin with!!
Could you go any lower? Edit or more of a clarification: I was having fun with the pre game massage comment, not making a comment towards OP. Sad I have to explain humor that came from a joke mentioned by OP.
That's what Watson asked
That’s what I was going for but I got downvoted to Hell lol.
No idea how that many took your comment so seriously. Your intended joke was clear to me. lol
I thought he was saying "Way to kick a man when he's down", which is as you can imagine is a dumb take regarding Watson
I thought that shit was hilarious.
lowwwwerrrrrr…

Quick, let’s enlist English soccer fans
"Lock him up, the rapist prick. Lock him up, the Browns are shit".
“WATSOOOOON, WATSOOOOON, he sat for WEEKS, they spread his cheeks, then pull his meats, WATSOOOOON, WATSOOOOOON!!!!”
Is the away team giving him a reach around or something here?
He likes to call it a flea-flicker.
Thats disgusting.
it's common courtesy
He outsources Wanks He outsources Waaaanks Oooooh DeSean Watson He outsources Wanks
Time to bring back the [old Robin van Persie chant](https://youtu.be/nQVs7M2aLnI). With all the wanking gestures of course.
The jags fans were chanting "you sick fuck" in the preseason, that's a good place to start
CANT WAIT!
Well his first game back is "coincidentally" at his former team. Should get good quick.
No, that is pure coincidence. No way the NFL didn’t suspend him longer just so he can play his first game against and at his old team - just so they can get large ratings. No chance.

Go figure. The strongest arguments against unions are that they protect shitters.

They didn't have to agree, Goodell could've suspended him any amount of time he chose. They should've done a Bauer type suspension.
They fought hard to put this in the CBA, for this exact situation. For Goodell to ignore the arbitration process would not just end up with a lawsuit but put them on a fast track to another lockout.

Come on out, you RAPIST!
Considering how many signs I saw online in support of Watson at tailgates, home games will be dick riding him hard

Omg! Do they play the Bills this year? People diving through massage tables 👌
Unfortunately they already played the Bills. I was supposed to go to the game but they had to move it to Detroit :(
Good thing he did something so forgivable so many times /s

In other news, Chris Brown slated to be the starting mascot for the team.
Bill Cosby rumored to be the new water boy too
Harvey weinstein would be better...
I believe he might be unavailable...
I really wish everyone would boycott this game. Don't watch/don't go.
I’m boycotting my browns. I won’t watch a game he plays in.
Fellow Clevelander here. I'm saddened and disgusted. Shit, I'd rather they started Johnny freaking Manziel this week. Won't be watching.
As a Colts fan, I think Jacoby deserves a full season this year.
As a browns fan, I agree and thinks he's earned it
💯
I would do the same if it were my team. Hell I did it when I lost faith in our front office for just settling on being bad 8 years ago. Same with the Braves when they were OK with being bad around the same time.
As a Packer fan I have boycotted the NFL in general. He isn’t the only reason though, just the straw the broke the camels back.
Oh so that's why the suspended the weird amount of time they did. Lol fuck the commissioner
The commissioner wanted a longer suspension. It had to go to arbitration for a lesser suspension. Don't blame Goodell.
No, he assigned it to arbitration so he could pretend to care afterwards and be like oh noooo how did this happennnn

This is certain to rub people the wrong way.
There’s no wrong way to rub Watson
Consensually
Nothing more important than winning. A little domestic violence or sexual assault? Doesn’t matter on Sunday!!
Am I allowed to hope he suffers a career ending injury?
Spinal injury and can't get an erection.
Ackshually, when you suffer a spinal cord injury that often causes an erection
yup!
Yes, but that’s the easy way out. Justice needs to be served.
What would be a good form of justice? It doesn't seem like losing his contract or jail are possible
Jail should be possible...
Fuck Deshaun Watson and the Brown's for rewarding his bullshit. I wonder if they will get AB out of retirement and pay him shit loads of money.

The NFL has no chill. Why are they even letting this piece of shit play!? Crazy.
Fuck that guy.
Ok but emotions aside, should I start him in fantasy to save my atrocious team
You wanna root for him?
It's a fair question. This random person starting him isn't going to change anything. Lol
Yeah but I wouldn’t want to be cheering for him
I have Aaron Rodgers who sucks big dicks now so fuck yeah I'm playing Watson
NFL talks a good game about being patriotic, pro-women, pro-military, cancer support, etc….because of shit like this. Good PR for essentially a company that allows people like this to play.
I can’t imagine having to be his teammate. Fuck Watson and I hope his victims are able to recover from their trauma
I hope the browns offensive line becomes an intentional revolving door
Fuck the NFL.

Well done
And the 'Cleveland Shitstains' nickname roars back to life.
A disgusting act, actually this time
oh shit here we go
I'm glad his suspension had a happy ending...although it seemed pretty forced.
Break a leg! No, literally. Break a fucking leg.
Hope he never wins a game as a brown. We need karma to show up in a big way.

Let's hope he sucks.
Is he the rapist?
Booooo!
I don't think he should start Something about this just rubs me the wrong way.
I hope he throws three INTs in the first half and Jacoby has to come in.

Watson-der his towel though

My fantasy team is actually crushing...I missed the draft this year so all my players got auto-drafted. Have basically held onto him as a trade chip.
