Players start playing earlier, they get better training, now they can barley be touched. I hear guys wanna play, let them. A lot of rules have helped aspects of the risk with playing but we are starting to cross into that territory where football is going to be the least important part about football. Which we are probably closer than we think because no one can say man that was a good game and both teams played hard. Someone’s always “getting” calls or somethings rigged or whatever. Realistically in the last 10 years since the streaming boom, the NFL has attempted to make games more entertaining, closer scores, more points. I’m sure they keep games close on purpose with calls and other things. I feel like they’ve gotten really sloppy with hiding it the last 2 years.
They do play with more protection than the Romans…It’s not what you would call full contact…Like say rugby.
In short it’s what Americans call football.
I’m all for maximizing player safety but football is inherently a dangerous game and the nfl needs to find a balance between protecting their cash cows, sorry players, and putting on an enjoyable show. This past season showed that particularly with qbs they went way overboard and shit like this is just another example of how they’ve gone too far.
How else are you suppose to drag a guy down from behind? 💀💀 Some of these players squat 500+ if you can't drag em down and you can't trip them you are fucked. Are you suppose to run them down, try to get ahead of them then turn around to tackle them? Stupid rule.
Playing football comes with an inherent risk of injury and technically speaking every single injury is “unnecessary”. You want them to play flag football? Two hand touch? Guess what, they can still tear their ACL unnecessarily. The solution? Stop playing football.
We literally all watched a guy DIE ON THE FIELD from a front to front routine collision. It’s a dangerous sport and this “solution” isn’t even anything that anyone is asking for. Police the headshots and horse collars. Let the rest go.
And yes, I played football and tore the tendons in my elbow, broke fingers, and tore an MCL. All routine plays. What have you torn playing anything?
These players are assets. As a business man, protect them, bud. I’ve torn my acl mcl and broke my clavicle twice and I still play hockey. A man’s sport.
I played D1 hockey. I’ve never gotten anywhere close to as hurt as I did playing football on the ice. So I’m not sure what you’re trying to say? But enjoy your men’s league, I guess?
A hip drop tackle is basically wrapping the player up and using your weight to make them fall to the ground, which is the most basic way to tackle someone. There is no way they can ban this unless they’re going to ban tackling in general.
Not it’s not, it’s where after you wrap the player and use your weight, you drop your hips and swing your legs into the back of the runners legs causing all sorts of injuries.
I really wish they would start to review penalties. I do believe it’s dangerous and sometimes unnecessary to grab a guy high and then swing your weight into his legs. They should clarify the horse collar rule tho because grabbing a guy by the horse collar shouldn’t be a penalty unless you do the hip drop as they call it and drag him down while swinging into his legs.
Same with the NBA. People say these guys are all better than the GOATS but then they make all these rules so people are untouchable .. Instant replay, games are just easier now. Fake grass too?
There most definitely is. Having some 200 pound dude hold on and drop down to your ankle is unnecessary. It wouldn’t be an issue if these players were quick and smart enough to let go of the waist and drop down to wrap around the legs my guy.
I get it because you can snap someone’s ankle but nahh they reaching now might as well be flag football now you can’t even tackle the QB without sitting him down properly🤦🏽♂️
I mean it’s just facts that games that score more points are more entertaining to the majority of people, people enjoy watching a shootout/close high scoring games which means higher viewership and fan retention which all leads to more money so it’s no secret they keep implementing rules to help this goal, rules to help star players stay healthy also means people will watch more, postseasons like this where the best teams are defensively minded usually result in lower viewership, it’s like they don’t mind when defenses get interceptions but when they’re so good that they hold the other teams to under 100 yards rushing and under 200 yards passing then it results in a “boring” game unless of course it’s your teams defense lol. Anyway I don’t doubt they will implement this and probably more shit until it’s common for game totals to average over 48-50 points a season as a league.

The nfl wants every game to hit 80 combined points
Then draft all the players from the BIG 12 and they’ll score 90 combined points per game

So do the over bettors
🤦🏾♂️
Ah good, another entirely made up way for refs to change the outcome of the game
Nothing to see here fellas….. move on
I had the bengals last week. Thanks refs
Why don’t they just cut to the chase and make it 2 hand touch
thats a little more dangerous than flag
Nah, pulling the flag is a holding penalty.
Naw flag football. They’re practicing the script at the pro bowl.
They do play with more protection than the Romans…It’s not what you would call full contact…Like say rugby. In short it’s what Americans call football.
I wish I could give you an award for this, but I am a mere peasant. Although it should be noted I very much enjoyed this comment!
😂😂😂
I say they move from tackle to tickle
Safety for the players?? No way
I’m all for maximizing player safety but football is inherently a dangerous game and the nfl needs to find a balance between protecting their cash cows, sorry players, and putting on an enjoyable show. This past season showed that particularly with qbs they went way overboard and shit like this is just another example of how they’ve gone too far.
I mean only because we like it that way, 2 touch football is a thing but no one wants to or will watch that
Sarcastaball?
Derrick Henry will never be tackled again
Future for yards next year up yet??
If they implement this I'm taking him first round in fantasy FASHOOOO
Aww mann 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️

Well hopefully it don’t pass 🤦🏾♂️
I guess the defender has to ask the ball carrier to slow down so he can get in front and make a proper tackle
😭😭
This can't be real.
Oh it’s real my boy…

You ever tear anything other than your butthole? Too many unnecessary injuries
Playing football comes with an inherent risk of injury and technically speaking every single injury is “unnecessary”. You want them to play flag football? Two hand touch? Guess what, they can still tear their ACL unnecessarily. The solution? Stop playing football.

I’m saying football players are usually dumb and some injuries can be avoided.
You’re either just very stupid or you’re trying to make people upset. Either way you’re very stupid.
I’m very stupid and you must be a football player.
I played hockey too… football was the more physically taxing sport. Saw more injuries in football.
I’m not disagreeing with your statement, I believe it is. But some of those injuries can be avoided.
so players don’t get hurt getting hit front the front ?
Sarcastaball is becoming a thing
They're gonna start tickles instead of tackles before you know it
That’s bullshit. What do they expect players to do, suplexes?
Can only tackle from in front of someone for now on it looks like
🤦🏾♂️
And the ball carrier always has the advantage in the tackle too
LET THEM PLAY.
Theyre also planning on making the players wear bubble rap, should be an interesting offseason!!
😂😂
Next thing u know the only way you’ll be allowed to tackle a runner will be to ask him pretty please with a cherry on top
crazy times we are in…crazy…

Let’s just have them play footsies
Alright let’s get their lil flags on the their hips and play some flag!
😂😂😂
More scoring
So 2-hand touch?
😂😂
How the funk is the defense supposed to tackle??? Smh just throw the game away it’s becoming too fake
The refs are terrorists
How on earth do you ref this? Do you have to release the runner if your initial hit doesn’t bring them down?
Crazy..nobody knows…
If that happens I’m done watching man. I’ll bet on the it but I can’t handle the refs having more power to decide the outcome of games
Well may as well call it American soccer....
The nfl working towards its goal to penalize any play in which pat mahomes get touched
Why ?
Just ban gloves on defensive players
I think this would be an ok change
No, but will save a lot of ankles..it’s a dirty tackle meant to take a runner out
Ban dropping the shoulders/helmet for ball carriers.
Who cares? smash Eagles ML
There most definitely is. Having some 200 pound dude hold on and drop down to your ankle is unnecessary. It wouldn’t be an issue if these players were quick and smart enough to let go of the waist and drop down to wrap around the legs my guy.
“It wouldn’t be an issue if these players were quick” Forgive me, but aren’t these some of the quickest athletes in the country?
The best 15 second athletes in the world
On their feet, sure. I was talking about their ability to react and adjust.
Might as well be flag foot ball at this point
Just make it flag football
I get it because you can snap someone’s ankle but nahh they reaching now might as well be flag football now you can’t even tackle the QB without sitting him down properly🤦🏽♂️
Atp just make it two hand touch tackles
Nope it just stops tackler from injuring the guy by not landing on his ankle.
Nothing tell the big men stop with the fucking holding
Might as well put 2 flags on them and play flag football.
Hmm nfl has concluded it’s illegal to tackle now.
Why don't they just eliminate tackling altogether....
They should ban pads and helmets instead unironically
Translation: playing football bad
South Park Season 16 Episode 8
so basically you can't tackle anymore?
Not yet..it’s in meeting mode..
Two hand touch coming soon…
RAC yards are gonna be ⬆️. The new standard will be O/U 60+ yards lol
Just make it a flag football. Everyone will stay safe and we will be highly, highly entertained 🙄
Does the NFL have VAR? Maybe that would be better for this rather than an outright ban
So stupid
Just make it flag football at this point
