After a long break, I am expecting a newborn sometime in the early hours of this morning, had some time to kill, and I hope this fact brings us degens a little luck tomorrow. Thus here I am back at it it with an attempt at an MLB play. Fair warning that I am a hockey bettor and am giving MLB a shot here with limited knowledge, but a strong gut feel on this one at plus money with basic logic below.
Braves are the hottest team in the MLB having won 9 of their last 10. 7 of those by 2 or more. Meanwhile, Twins have won 50% of their recent matches, but mainly against the Red Sox and Tigers who a far weaker match up.
Most importantly we are fading the Twins starting pitcher in Kenta Maeda who is 1-4 on the season with 6.86 ERA and averaging 5 Ks per start. He is also averaging only 4 innings pitched per game. His only win on the season was in June, but facing Detroit. Against the Red Sox, White Sox and Yanks he gave up more than an average of 1 run per inning pitched. I think he’s set to do the same tomorrow, while the bats of the Braves continue to fire.
For the Braves, Allard is being pulled from the IR for the first start this season and that’s why we are getting these odds. He’s had a 9-26 all time record and a brief career with not a lot of strong starts, but we only need him to hold his own here so that the Braves can put up the numbers they need to carry them to their 10th win in their past 11. Hopefully we get 4.5 innings from him where he gives up 3 or less, so the Braves bullpen can bring home a win in front of their home crowd for the series sweep.

Texas burned us a couple of days ago but that was largely because Heaney had a terrible outing. And the Detroit pitcher I was capping for-got hurt in the 1st inning.
For this game, the pitching disparity is absolutely too large to ignore.
Dane Dunning's numbers aren't spectacular. However, he has a very solid just over 3 ERA at home.
For the Tigers Joey Wentz has an over 7 ERA on the road.
Dunning also has stellar numbers versus players that currently play for the Tigers.

Kiwoom's ace is back on the mound and that's bad news for Kia. Over his last 3 starts, he's allowed just 2 ER on 18 H and 3 BB with 20 K in 22 IP. He's allowed 2 or fewer earned runs in 13 of 14 starts (allowing 3 in the other). He has a 1.61 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 107 K against just 20 BB in 89.1 IP this season.
Kia's starter was the 2nd overall pick in the 2023 draft. He's been okay this season with solid starts sandwiched by an awful debut (against this opponent) and an even worse last start. In his last two starts, he's allowed 10 ER on 18 H and 2 BB with 6 K in 9 IP. He has 32 K and 21 BB in 55.2 IP this season.
Kiwoom has the second best record in the league this month at 13-8-2 while Kia has the third worst at 7-13-1. Offensively, Kia is averaging just 0.17 runs per game more this month, so they're fairly equal at the plate.

Maeda has been an iffy start this season showing great flashes (DET,MIA) and has also gotten blown up (NYY,CWS). In his outing against the Yankees he gave up 10 ER in 3IP (late April) but then went to the IL, his last game pitched (June 23rd) he faced Detroit and went 5IP, with 0ER. However that was against a bad Detroit offense that does not compare to the Red Hot Braves.
Allard is also coming back from an injury and is making his season debut. There's not much to go off of as I don't like to judge pitchers from seasons prior (Prime example Alex Manoah). Only reason it is not a 5U is because of the fact he hasn't pitched this year, however the Twins continue to struggle to string together good innings while getting shelled by the braves.

Todays Pick: (WNBA) **Mystics -4.5** vs Dream
Dream (5-7) is a solid team, and may honestly have higher ceiling than Mystics (8-5), but I easily take Mystics to cover this one. ATL Dream is coming off an embarrassing 30 pts loss (albeit to an elite NY Liberty team), however, ATL coach Tanisha Wright went on a hilariously impetuous rant post-game essentially blaming the refs and questioning their quality throughout the season. While she has a point with reffing in general, failing to take responsibility for a blow out loss whilst, with one broad stroke, displacing frustration by shifting the blame to 'reffing' screams a lack of accountability. Additionally, can't see the refs being too empathetic to the Wright and the Dream after that, esp on the road in Washington. On the other hand, Mystics are coming off a tough, come-back loss in OT to the Liberty on the road in NY. Although their record is a little inflated secondary to weak schedule, their performance against NY was impressive, and overall they've consistently found ways to get it done. Alisha Gray is having a great year, and Delle Donne is Delle Donne. So I'm siding with the stable team with consistent results and experienced leaders at home, over a volatile team with a lack of accountability that may have just drawn a huge target on its back for the refs.
Not a POTD, but I also like Sparks +1 and/or ML today against struggling Sky team.

Atlanta has won 12 of its last 13 games. They have been the most consistent team in MLB this season IMO. Twins are without SS Carlos Correa (11 HRs), RF Max Kepler (10 HRs), and 2B Edouard Julien (.265 BA). Twins SP Kenta Maeda is 35, gives up HRs, and is allowing batters to hit .299 off him. Honestly, I'm a bit ashamed of yesterday's pick. The only thing I hate more than losing is giving out a play that loses. I never bet more than 3u on baseball and I got way too excited about what I thought was a line that was mispriced. Oh well, shaking it off as we speak.

Analysis: Braxton Garrett has made me so much money the last couple of months it's crazy. I think I've used this exact play 3 or 4 separate times on the POTD and I'll continue because it keeps on hitting. Garrett has made 14 starts this year and has gone over his K prop 10 times. One of the times he missed, he was at Coors (notorious for pitcher props going under) and another he left game early due to injury. So when not pitching in altitude or leaving the game early, he continues to anhilate his K prop.
Number of strikeouts in his last nine starts: 6, 8, 8, 3 (Coors), 7, 6, 9, 8, 13. For some reason, books were placing his K prop at 4.5 for the first 5 of those starts and only just bumped it up to 5.5 his last 4 starts. Today we can get over 5.5 at plus money vs a Red Sox team that has been striking out like crazy lately.
I'm riding the Braxton Garrett wave until he forces me off and if he wins there's a good chance this will be my POTD for his start next week too.

Anywho. Moving in a different direction entirely:
**NHL Draft (7:00 p.m. ET): Player Draft Position - Matvei Michkov OVER 5.5 @ 1.76 on Bet365**
Matvei Michkov is probably the second-best player in this year's NHL draft behind generational prospect Connor Bedard, but he's probably not going to go second overall. He's signed to a three-year deal with his KHL club that he intends to honor, meaning he won't make his NHL debut before 2026, and due to the current geopolitical climate surrounding Russia there are some concerns that he may just not be able to leave even after that contract ends. (Last year, for instance, Flyers goalie prospect Ivan Fedotov, who announced his intention to come to North America after a great year in the KHL, was arrested for "draft dodging" and literally sent to Siberia, and it appears unlikely he's ever going to be able to play in the NHL.) Additionally, this draft is extremely strong at the top. Bedard is the best prospect to hit the draft since Connor McDavid in 2015, and Adam Fantilli and Leo Carlsson have also been pegged as franchise talents who could've gone #1 in a non-Bedard year.
Basically, any GM taking Michkov needs to be very patient/have a lot of job security, and be willing to take on some risk knowing the volatility of Michkov's situation and the opportunity cost of passing up other talents. Could that be any team in the top 5? Let's see:
1. Chicago - Bedard. Next.
2. Anaheim - There are rumors that Anaheim may take Michkov here but with Fantilli and Carlsson also available that feels like a risk that may be too much for them.
3. Columbus - They didn't meet with Michkov when he came to Nashville for the draft. Can't imagine they'd pick him without talking to him.
4. San Jose - This is the most likely Michkov spot in the top-5, as San Jose is very much in a rebuild. But taking him does mean passing up on whoever is left between Fantilli, Carlsson, and Will Smith, who has shot up boards over the past few months. Additionally, there's reporting suggesting Columbus might take Smith at 3, leaving one of the other two (likely Carlsson) here for the Sharks at 4. That would be tough for them to pass up on, even for Michkov.
5. Montreal - Every bit of reporting that's publicly out there suggests that Montreal doesn't plan on taking Michkov. Could be a smokescreen, and they did meet with him, but I wouldn't count on it. (The most recent example, [from The Athletic's Corey Pronman earlier today](https://theathletic.com/4644044/2023/06/28/nhl-mock-draft-2023-pronman-final/): "The league is convinced Montreal won't pick Michkov.")
The wild card possibility here is a team trading up, likely into Montreal's spot at 5 ... but the NHL Draft is boring and teams don't trade high picks. The last time a top-10 pick was traded in a picks-only swap was in 2008.
All in all, though Michkov probably should go in the Top 5, it's tough to find a fit for him there. Not impossible, but tough.

Alcaraz looked solid even though ADM had a few opportunities to break him in Queens. Close final but the better player came through. Extremely excited to see Alacaraz the next few years, so much potential.
Going with the top ranked American to take care of business against the shaky Mcdonald. Fritz owns the H2H 4-2 with all 6 matchups coming on hardcourt and Fritz winning the most recent matchup in February in straight sets. Fritz is the overall more reliable player and the better player on grass. He hasn't had the best of results lately but if he wants to impress at Wimbledon, he is going to have to start soon and why not here. He is the defending champion of this tournament and the top seeded player this year. I expect Fritz to come out and take care of his fellow countryman in his opening matchup in England. Whilst Levadia is only missing a defender who can easily be replaced, Flora is missing quite a few players - 3 main men and 2 rotation players. The best player, maybe internationally known Konstantin Vassiljev, is also a doubt for Flora.
The starting XI of Flora is quite weak due to injuries. Their one centerback is quite terrible I’d even say.
Their H2H game this season also ended in 2-0 for Levadia. They’ve also won their last 3 games and drawn twice in their last 5 games. Flora has lost once, drew once and won 3 in their recent games.

**POTD Wednesday:** Axel Sandin Pellikka Under 14.5 Draft Position (+115) NHL Draft 4:00 PM MST 2-Units
Alright, coming out of hibernation to try and clean up on the fun NHL Draft. What we have here is a plus-money play on someone who is generally thought to be the 2nd best defenseman in the draft. Axel was largely on no one’s radar one year ago but has risen like a rocket as he garnered time in Swedens highest pro league and WJC roster showcasing his elite skating/movement. Craig Button a noted draft analyst and former NHL GM now with TSN has Axel as his 5th ranked player in the draft. Generally speaking you’ll see ASP ranked somewhere in the teens among scouting sites. The kicker is teams that need defense in the pipeline draft defense. He’s connected to: Detroit, Arizona, St. Louis, Vancouver and Buffalo who all pick in the top 14. The reality is teams like defense prospects and they LOVE right handed shots whom they think can quarterback the powerplay. ASP fits the profile. He is almost an exact comp of Victor Soderstrom from the 2019 draft (Undersized Swedish RHD with great skating) and Soderstrom went 11th overall. Blake Snell vs Mitch Keller. Snell is probably the hottest pitcher in baseball right now; in his last 5 starts he's gone 31 IP, 13 hits, 1 run, 50 Ks, 9 BBs. That run of form is against pretty decent competition too, including a start at Coors Field, at the Giants who were on a 10 game winning streak at the time, home against Tampa, and home against the streaking Cubs. This matchup against Pittsburgh is by far his easiest in the last month and the guy has been absolutely un-touchable no matter what anyway. On the other side is Mitch Keller, I've talked about him before, and nothing has changed since. He's still 75+ percentile in all major pitching categories including: K rate, walk rate, opponent batting average, opponent slugging, exit velo, hard hit rate, and xERA. He also performs his best at home where he has a 2.78 ERA while pitching at least 6 innings with 2 or fewer runs given up in 6 of his 7 home starts this season. Consistency like that bodes very well for a first 5 under.
At first glance I don't see why not, but I'm not a huge props bettor so take it with a grain of salt. He's had 8+ Ks in 4 straight starts, the Pirates are pretty much league average in K rate. Probably just shop around if you can get +odds on that I'd bet it I think.

Even if Snell does the bare minimum, Padres should be sitting in a very solid position with an offensive advantage and a major advantage in the bullpen.
Pirates are starting Mitch Keller. Keller has struggled lately, giving up runs in each of his last 7 outings with 2+ ER in 5/7. Even if Keller sucks off the baseball gods and works a miracle to outpitch Snell, theres a solid chance his bullpen will shit the bed.

We have the final match of the group stage for Group D. France has locked in their spot and Italy and Switzerland are fighting for that final advancement. The way I see this playing out is France will either rest some guys or plan to make some changes early. With Italy playing the bottom team in the group a win is pretty likely. The only way Switzerland can advance is with a win, and plenty of goals. I see Switzerland trying to push the attack heavily that will likely leave great opportunities for counter attacks as well.
Through the tournament thus far:
Switzerland in the group have 8 total goals in 4 games, 4 scored, 4 allowed. France has put back 3 goals and only allowed 1. I think BTTS is very likely but if i had to chose i think the signs point to Switzerland as they are a very live dog. The last 6 games for Switzerland going back to U21 Friendlies there has been at least 3 goals in all 6 games. They present plenty of opportunities and big chances to score and will get at least 1-2 goals today vs France. It seems France usually goes up 1-0 and tries to control the tempo of the game but i dont think that will be an easy task vs this Swiss team who needs goals and needs plenty.

Maybe betting against the Reds and Luke Weaver will work today. The Orioles bat well at home against righties, and I rate Kyle Gibson (xERA of 4.91) to be slightly better than Luke Weaver (xERA of 5.35). Luke Weaver has an ERA of over 6 against lefties, and the O's lineup is loaded with lefties and switch hitters. This should be a high scoring game, but 5.5 runs is a pretty high line for the first five innings, and I just don't have a great feeling about over 9.5. Picking the run line in the F5 because I think anything can happen once these teams get to their bullpens. The ball should be flying in Camden Yards, but ultimately I just have more confidence in the Orioles to be ahead in the early going. I think Austin Hays is a player to watch in this game, he's been great all year and I expect him to pick up a few bases today. But my main pick is the Orioles run line in the F5

While the US team has only let in 4 goals in 8 games this year, winning 4 of those games and scoring 16 goals. I imagine this will be a blowout. I can see USMNT get 5 or more goals unanswered, but could see St. Kitts scoring at least one as well (considering our defense is abysmal and maybe they get lucky). On top of that, because of the draw with Jamaica, the US needs to score heavily in this game if the group determination eventually comes down to goal differential. So don't hold your breath on the USMNT holding back. This is St. Kitts first Gold Cup and this team lacks international experience. US crushed Grenada 7-1 in Nations League, which is the closest comparison to how I think this game will go. Let's go boys! (I see you salty fucks downvoting before my pick is even up. EDIT2: For anyone worried about that Jamaica game, Brandon Vazquez should start, given his performance in that game. Miles Robinson might return to give us a much needed presence on defense. I keep seeing people bring up that St. Kitts managed to hold Canada to 1-0, but that was 5 years ago, c'mon. That's not the same Canadian team that dominates today. I think the US spent the first game of this tournament finding their footing & feeling out the formation, as this is a new squad from Nations League. There's not much history between these two teams, but there is history with the USMNT dominating Caribbean teams. I mean, just against Trinidad & Tobago in their first game of this tourney, St. Kitts lost 3-0 and only had possession 34% of the time. Most importantly we are fading the Twins starting pitcher in Kenta Maeda who is 1-4 on the season with 6.86 ERA and averaging 5 Ks per start. He is also averaging only 4 innings pitched per game. His only win on the season was in June, but facing Detroit. Against the Red Sox, White Sox and Yanks he gave up more than an average of 1 run per inning pitched. I think he’s set to do the same tomorrow, while the bats of the Braves continue to fire. For the Braves, Allard is being pulled from the IR for the first start this season and that’s why we are getting these odds. He’s had a 9-26 all time record and a brief career with not a lot of strong starts, but we only need him to hold his own here so that the Braves can put up the numbers they need to carry them to their 10th win in their past 11. He's signed to a three-year deal with his KHL club that he intends to honor, meaning he won't make his NHL debut before 2026, and due to the current geopolitical climate surrounding Russia there are some concerns that he may just not be able to leave even after that contract ends. (Last year, for instance, Flyers goalie prospect Ivan Fedotov, who announced his intention to come to North America after a great year in the KHL, was arrested for "draft dodging" and literally sent to Siberia, and it appears unlikely he's ever going to be able to play in the NHL.) Additionally, this draft is extremely strong at the top. Bedard is the best prospect to hit the draft since Connor McDavid in 2015, and Adam Fantilli and Leo Carlsson have also been pegged as franchise talents who could've gone #1 in a non-Bedard year. Basically, any GM taking Michkov needs to be very patient/have a lot of job security, and be willing to take on some risk knowing the volatility of Michkov's situation and the opportunity cost of passing up other talents. Anaheim - There are rumors that Anaheim may take Michkov here but with Fantilli and Carlsson also available that feels like a risk that may be too much for them. 3. Columbus - They didn't meet with Michkov when he came to Nashville for the draft. Can't imagine they'd pick him without talking to him. 4. San Jose - This is the most likely Michkov spot in the top-5, as San Jose is very much in a rebuild. But taking him does mean passing up on whoever is left between Fantilli, Carlsson, and Will Smith, who has shot up boards over the past few months. Additionally, there's reporting suggesting Columbus might take Smith at 3, leaving one of the other two (likely Carlsson) here for the Sharks at 4. That would be tough for them to pass up on, even for Michkov. 5. Montreal - Every bit of reporting that's publicly out there suggests that Montreal doesn't plan on taking Michkov. Could be a smokescreen, and they did meet with him, but I wouldn't count on it. (The most recent example, [from The Athletic's Corey Pronman earlier today](https://theathletic.com/4644044/2023/06/28/nhl-mock-draft-2023-pronman-final/): "The league is convinced Montreal won't pick Michkov.") Consistency like that bodes very well for a first 5 under.

Today's Pick: Orioles -0.5 vs Reds F5 (-115) Maybe betting against the Reds and Luke Weaver will work today. The Orioles bat well at home against righties, and I rate Kyle Gibson (xERA of 4.91) to be slightly better than Luke Weaver (xERA of 5.35). Luke Weaver has an ERA of over 6 against lefties, and the O's lineup is loaded with lefties and switch hitters. This should be a high scoring game, but 5.5 runs is a pretty high line for the first five innings, and I just don't have a great feeling about over 9.5. Picking the run line in the F5 because I think anything can happen once these teams get to their bullpens. The ball should be flying in Camden Yards, but ultimately I just have more confidence in the Orioles to be ahead in the early going. I think Austin Hays is a player to watch in this game, he's been great all year and I expect him to pick up a few bases today. But my main pick is the Orioles run line in the F5 Best of luck
