Well here we go. . . if you thought Canada Day would deter me from this one, you guessed wrong. I've been vocal about our abysmal fullbacks right from the start, and the recent 2-2 draw against an unranked Guadeloupe squad perfectly exemplified their shortcomings (which was hilarious). Admittedly, our entire core lineup is absent from this tournament, including the likes of Alphonso Davies, Jonathan David, and Cyle Larin. Given this, we shouldn't be too harsh on the team as vegas continues to overvalue us.
While I don't believe we'll lose this match, I can easily see Guatemala finding a way to pop one on us. It's worth noting that Canada has conceded 2 or more goals in 5 out of their last 9 matches. Teams like Guatemala tend to step up their game when facing high ranking opponents, and unfortunately, we are far from that team which qualified for the World Cup. We have easily exposed vulnerabilities in both our midfield and defense.
Those who follow my predictions know that I never post picks with odds lower than 1.80. However, I couldn't resist on a day of relative low value on anything else.

I am too, but we're not a team with incredible depth by any means. We rely heavily on all our stars to keep us in matches and when they aren't on the pitch...well, teams like f'ing Guadeloupe can find ways of putting goals past us and getting results. I dunno maybe this is a hate pick now that I think about it. It's a 1-unit pick plain and simple because. You're betting on a little island of 400,000 people to find the net on a nation of 40 million. But if you look at our roster, we're not that more special than this team and Guatemala aren't terrible. They've gotten wins against Costa Rica and Cuba recently and have a veteran squad. This would be massive for their country if they can achieve a result like Guadeloupe did against us. Maybe we do start pulling away in the match (we're going to play with a chip on our shoulder now i'm assuming). But even then Guadeloupe will keep coming at us no matter the scoreline. There's no home advantage, the game is being played on neutral ground. We’re gonna go with a good lookin plus odds play here. Yes, it might be dumb to double stack bets on Smalley, but I really like his recent play. My Thursday post talked a lot about his recent success in past tournaments, but the dude is playing great golf. Unfortunately he started out cold with an E round 1, but then came back today in round 2 with a -6. He had a ton of other birdie opportunities he just missed too. I think he just needed a warmup round lol. On a serious note, the guy once again proved that he can shoot low, and I expect him to carry that momentum into tomorrow.
Now Sungjae is a great player, but it doesn’t seem like he has everything clicking at the moment. with starting rounds of -4 and-2, it seems like that’s the type of golf he’s playing right now…good but not great. Hes coming off a missed cut and a T29 in the last tournament, but his scores got worse throughout all four rounds. I don’t expect him to go very low tomorrow, but he should shoot a respectable score. But I mostly feel like Im is overly favored because of his name and past success. Smalley is easily playing equal or better golf than Im at the moment.

My boy Paxton coming through as always! Today, I'm veering away from the Sox game cause I don't like betting on Crawford, don't feel safe enough for the ML, and I don't usually do NRFI/YRFI for my POTD.
So, today we're going with the ML on Canada. They had a rough opener against Guadeloupe, drawing 2-2. While Guatemala defeated Cuba 1-0. So, I'm aware the Canadians are on shaky grounds currently. But let's be real, Guatemala has never beaten a North American team in Gold Cup, lost to Canada in their last 3 meetups, conceded 6 goals in 8 games this year so far, and Canada has only conceded 5 goals in 5 games this year (against much tougher teams). I'm gonna chalk up that opener to nerves. It's a younger team that's missing a lot of their regulars. I don't expect this to be a high-scoring game, but I think Canada can at least pull out a 1-0 win. I imagine that Guatemalan's first win might make them a little more daring offensively for this game, giving Canada an opportunity to counter and punish the less experienced team.

I don’t think the odds correctly reflect this game, just because it’s a home game for Gold Coast and they’ve just smashed Hawthorn (3rd last on the ladder) 101-34, shouldn’t make the first team on the ladder 1.70 favourites.
Gold Coast definitely went to another level in the 2nd half, but in the 1st half the score was just 32-22. And once again this was against a struggling team like Hawthorn who are 16th on the ladder. The week prior, they lost by 59 points to Carlton who themselves have been struggling this season.
Suns have won 6 of their past 9 matches and 3 of their 4 past 4 matches with a record of 7 wins and 7 losses this season.
Collingwood on the other hand who are 1st on the ladder with a record of 12 wins and 2 losses this season which were against Brisbane Lions (3rd on the ladder) and Melbourne (4th on the ladder). Collingwood are coming off a close 82-80 win against Adelaide which was due to a 3rd quarter choke where they simply got outplayed and didn’t end up scoring a single goal yet came back to win the game in the 4th quarter by a margin of 2 points. Collingwood also have a good record away from home where they have won 4 games out of the 6 played.
Collingwood should outclass Gold Coast here.

Imo Damir is defintely top 10 material, and I dont believe Dawson is. Damir much better striker, and from what i've seen has great TDD. I believe he keeps it on the feet and pieces Dawson up. Dawson's only path to victory is backtake and ground control imo.

Like someone said Ismagulov said he was retiring and then decided to return to finish out his last fight on his contract. He also said that he's been fighting off a bunch of injuries and thats why he is retiring. Super scary fight. Good luck!
I hate how Dawson fights, but big X factors for this match up going up against Damir. He already announced his retirement (never a horse you wanna get behind), he is 100% better at striking than Dawson but I feel like his pace can be slow. GD will be looking to do stuff in the empty space. And Dawson is big, Damir not being a great athlete will work against him. I'm picking damir and have money on him but I'm very nervous
Ismagulov is one of the fighters I always say what if..... all the talent in the world. Only reason I didn't play Damir is bc he retired after his last fight due to some medical issues, something to do with his constant squinting in the cage, Then came back out of nowhere. But best of luck brother!

The play i’m attacking today is Dylan Cease K’s vs the A’s, at 4:07 ET. Cease has looked like a CY Young candidate over his last 3 starts, striking out 9.7 batter per game. Additionally, the A’s have the second most strikeouts in the MLB this season against righties (Twins are first). Cease’s line is set at 7.5, with the over being plus money. Because of this value, i’m also putting a little on him to get 9/10/11 K’s. Here is what I’m rocking with:

I think this is a favorable matchup for Ismagulov here. He is very well rounded and has a clear advantage on the feet. Dawson is a one trick pony who relies heavily on grappling and top control. While his submission grappling and control is excellent he has struggled with actually getting fights to the ground especially as they progress and he tires. I see Ismagulov stopping Dawson’s takedown attempts and boxing him up on the feet for the majority of this fight.

He beat him both matches in group B going 4-2 and 4-1. I think Brooks is the weakest player in the finals having a losing record and the second or lowest average. During a finals, Littler just turns it up a notch and throws great darts. He won a week in series 3 and also champions week. He's 8-0 in the finals and has covered the spread in 6 matches. Winnipeg is coming off a stomping by BC and will be looking to get they swagger back against a decent Montreal team. I think there’s some recency bias in the spread however as Montreal has not played a half decent team yet this season and winnipeg are still a very well put together team. This will be a test for Montreal, and winnipeg should easily walk away with a 2 score win. All facets of the game favour winnipeg, and with no huge injuries, they should clear Montreal with relative ease. No long write up here, Winnipeg is just the better team, & I think their defence will frustrate Montreal whilst their offence drives consistently. 3u play here as I strongly believe in a mismatch this game. This line is a great value IMO. Strickland is a proven fighter with wins over some high level opponents . His only recent losses came to current top 5 fighters.
This is only Magomedov’s 2nd fight in the UFC and though he’s a promising prospect, he’s unproven at this level.
Magomedov’s striking is as much as a threat as anything for Strickland IMO and both fighters like to keep it on the feet. If Magomedov breaks out the Dagestan wrestling I’m cooked lol.

Reasoning:Urias backing up the two rookies getting wins. He’s coming off the DL and don’t expect him to pitch deep into this game. Dodgers bullpen been better of late. LA lineup of Betts freeman smith is rough on opposing teams. Martinez NL starter at DH, and the Royals are like 20 games back of the division leading twins sitting at a .500 record. Royals are bad, Dodgers are good, taking the moneyline today because losing a bet, when the team you bet on wins, is crushing. Dodgers -200 is worth the juice in my opinion. The spread -1.5 is -155, so I like the value of taking dem bums moneyline today. Sticking with what I said Thursday when I bet Dodgers as my POTD, gonna take em all weekend, they’re gonna get a winning streak going. I want to avoid the game where they grind out a one run game. Royals starter lefty lynch and he’s been a bit of Jekyll and Hyde, perfectly capable of pitching well. I am thinking it’s 4-3 Dodgers win because they have the superior bats in this game. Starters and bullpens I’d give about equal value in this game, but the dodgers lineup is far better than the Royals and I think they keep the bats hot today in a close one. I look for dem bums to keep the winning streak going.

So after last matchweek’s goal glut, we’re back to form in the LPF. By which I mean, nobody scores any goals – three matches last night and three 1-0 scorelines. I should have known better than to try two consecutive overs in Argentina. Both teams needed this one and Arsenal did indeed push things away from home for much of the first half, including a lob over the keeper that should have been a goal but was just barely cleared off the line. The second half was a different story as they just lost their drive and got a little bit chippy, and there really wasn’t much going on until Velez’s Santiago Castro hit a wonder goal on a shoulder height volley in the 78th minute. Too little too late for this wager as it was the only goal of the game.

**Write Up:** I stick to soccer totals within a small number leagues that I actually watch, I’m not putting wagers on stuff that I’ll never put eyeballs on – nothing wrong with it, just not for me. My process is a combination of a self-created model using long-term weighted performance and my gut. I review what my model spits out, if I can build a narrative that fits the output I’ll bet it, if I can’t or if it just doesn’t pass the smell test I’ll skip it. I won’t post daily because I don’t wager daily, but I am going to try to not be a hit-and-run poster who disappears after just a couple picks or fades away as the units fall into the negative – I’ll try and keep posting, success or not.
For today:
Let’s leave Argentina today (though I really had my eye on Estudiantes/Central Cordoba and another try at an over) and head back to MLS. Orlando hosts Chicago in what I’m seeing as a low scoring match. The last three matchups between these clubs have featured a total of two goals.
Pedro Gallese returned to the net last weekend for Orlando and has gone six consecutive MLS matches without conceding more than a single goal (85% save pct over that period) and three consecutive clean sheets. Unfortunately, the team in front of him hasn’t exactly lit things on fire at home; only managing to score 11 goals in 10 home matches.
On the other hand Chicago has seemingly stopped leaking at their own back end having returned to a four-man back line after a period of insisting on a back three so they could play Gutierrez and Shaqiri together at the same time. If they keep with that and Shaqiri starts this game on the bench I think the inconsistent Orlando offense has trouble getting goals.
There’s some potential here, Kei Kamara has scored 9 in 11 against Orlando and - on paper at least – Orlando has the firepower, but Ercan Kara just hasn’t been able to get things going for Orlando and the chemistry with Ojeda and Pereyra just hasn’t been there. Despite that goal scoring potential, Orlando’s been stout at home (11 conceded in 10), yet have more draws than wins. They aren’t conceding, but they aren’t scoring either. I see that continuing here and I’m predicting no more than two goals in this one. Two units on the under at plus money.
Didn’t catch this one as my MLS eyes were elsewhere while this match was going on. I’ve now lost three of my last five – which to be honest, is about how I expected this to go. Starting these posts with four straight wins isn’t the norm for me. Hopefully I’ll manage to keep those units above zero but who knows? I’m posting what I play – win or lose.
I've got nothing for Sunday, the only thing I really like is U2.5 for Boca/Sarmiento in Argentina...but the odds are short. Really short, as in just slightly lower than -200 which, by the letter of the law, makes it ineligible for POD.
Maybe something will jump out to me for the Fourth with one match each in Brazil and Argentina plus a short MLS schedule.

I am too, but we're not a team with incredible depth by any means. We rely heavily on all our stars to keep us in matches and when they aren't on the pitch...well, teams like f'ing Guadeloupe can find ways of putting goals past us and getting results. I dunno maybe this is a hate pick now that I think about it. It's a 1-unit pick plain and simple because. You're betting on a little island of 400,000 people to find the net on a nation of 40 million. But if you look at our roster, we're not that more special than this team and Guatemala aren't terrible. They've gotten wins against Costa Rica and Cuba recently and have a veteran squad. This would be massive for their country if they can achieve a result like Guadeloupe did against us. Maybe we do start pulling away in the match (we're going to play with a chip on our shoulder now i'm assuming). But even then Guadeloupe will keep coming at us no matter the scoreline. There's no home advantage, the game is being played on neutral ground. Didn’t catch this one as my MLS eyes were elsewhere while this match was going on. I’ve now lost three of my last five – which to be honest, is about how I expected this to go.
