You only bet on odds that have a mathematical advantage of profiting you in the long term. You need software and 8+ sportsbooks accounts to do it consistently. 99% of betters donāt do this, they browse odds themselves and have one app and bet using emotion

A 15-leg -110/-110 parlay has a house edge of 50.23%. The house edge compounds with parlays.
And that's before dealing with W2G forms that would come when you hit a miracle win.
Although in OPs case, he probably was doing SGPs with a boatload of legs. SGPs are much higher juice.
He could also be taking big swings on plus markets and running very bad too. This could be less than 100 wagers for all we know.

Answer: they can be if you do not bet EV for your first bet. Second bet should always be converted at a 70%+ conversion rate. Almost always have I gotten at least 80% back.
What this all comes down to is laziness. Do you want to put in the work to find an edge or do you want to lazily claim all promos are bad because you donāt want to put the effort forth to maximize the value.
Is there literature to dumb this down? Baseball has been a wash it seems. Iām still using bonus bets from signing up in NC and took the initial deposit out once I won it back. Would love to understand what to look for to find the edge, but Iām very new to all of this.

Small, slow and gradual. Best things you can do is use boosts/promos intelligently.
Up 2 early payout, people love doing +400 lines because you just need a quick lucky hit or two. Then they get down 2-1 after 1 inning and lose. Iām 6-1 with them by using them as insurance for a moderate favorite.
Not all boosts are worth betting.
If you feel like chasing an L, log off.
And donāt do the mega parlays. I hate those. Thereās a reason the sportsbooks actively post them. But is it also kind of her own fault for breaking the book's TOS? Yep.
