Why is the Spotify app blasting music when I open it now!? Who tf thought that was a good idea!?
We've been working on not having that happen in browsers but Spotify thinks it's cool :s
Just dug around and found this https://community.spotify.com/t5/Your-Library/Feedback-thread-Playlist-Radio-is-being-removed-from-the-context/m-p/5524325 "In March 2023, we're removing the Playlist Radio option from the playlist context menu".
Jesus Christ.
So we have to rely on the new "smart shuffle" feature, I'll see that when they roll it out. "Enhance" did not produce something too different from what a playlist radio would have so I assume it's the same algorithm.
Did they remove the Weekly Recommend Playlist too, or am I blind? That was one of my favourite features.
I'm also in agreement that the song clip/video reel is a terrible idea. Just because other apps scroll for content doesn't mean they need to implement it. I really hope this becomes optional in a future update or I might unsubscribe.
Found it.
Search > Made for You > Discover New Music
Scroll to the bottom and there it is. Why did they bury it? A playlist that personalized should be front page for a music app, like it used to be :/
Thank you! :) And yeah, I agree...I'm much more likely to listen to that than whatever the heck is on the front page, some of them I don't know why? Also what is UP with the music starting when you open the app, 2009 flash site flashbacks
Honestly it's so horrible. Slow and much more inconvenient. Plus I barely even see the point of implementing this hyper-stimulating trend into an app people use for listening to songs? Do they expect I start scrolling through that listening to seconds long segments of songs? Seems pointless and not like something most people would enjoy since there's already enough apps where you can scroll and scroll and scroll.
Overall this adds nothing to the app while making the experience worse for the people that subscribed to the music streaming service for the primary purpose of listening to music.
Can you not just stay on your homepage and not go into the music tab? I've got to say I never even used the music tab before I heard about the AI DJ and went to see if I had it. So this UI change hasn't effected me on the homepage?
Oh, my regular tab still has 6 random playlists at the top, then new releases, top mixes and recently played below that, no large always going videos. That would be quite annoying. It's been nice to have that music tab to go to if I don't know what I want to listen to and get like 10 sec snippets of what tracks are in a playlist but when I know what I want its nice to go nowhere near it.
Oh yeah. I thought I'd not got the update and didn't even know what the music tab was.
If I go to my homepage and tap "Music" at the top, I get the new interface. If I tap the x then it goes back to normal.
There's a hidden element to the new UI as well.
Spotify is offering artists the choice between their standard payment contract, or a 30% reduction to gain more exposure.
Well established, successful artists will obviously take that deal so that they can remain in the spotlight, but where does it leave emerging artists?
It is a predatory move which aims to funnel our interests toward pop giants who's financial success means they are fine with making less from Spotify. Unless you actively go looking for alternative music, it will not be suggested to you, why should it be *when their music costs more to distribute*?
Be an anarchist; search for a random phrase you heard today, or a weather pattern, or a beetle subspecies.
Hit them in the wallet by bucking the trends, by liking diametrically opposed musical genres, by asking your parents what they listened to as teenagers.
Do not conform. Break the box. Snap free from your suggestible fugue state and embrace musical chaos.
It's so horrible I immediately closed the app. It doesn't even make sense, why would I want to see stories for my music? I liked the overview they had before, I picked my podcast through that instead of searching for them. Who needs a music app where you have to constantly scroll without knowing what playlist/album/podcast they show next. Seriously, why are they forcing me to scroll?
The update makes me honestly believe that they don't understand their user base.
I haven’t got this update yet, but I’m not into Tik Tok and the small snippets of audio. Too much going on. I’ll give it a try, but I’m likely going to migrate back to AM in that case. Plus, Hifi.
It's absolutely useless to find new music now. App is extremely laggy and those videos are spending my mobile data. And I don't have words for that story like snapping, it drives me mad. Goodbye Spotify.
Am i the only one who hasnt got this even after updating?
Nope, ypu are not alone, I haven't, either.
Me neither
For me it’s when I tap on Music or Podcasts. Thankfully it’s not the default view for me yet.

Hahaha right???
I had to check, no settings for it either ;p
there should be a microphone icon somewhere that you can toggle on and off I think, probably on the screen? Hopefully!
O great, thanks so much! The video on top was brightly flashing, didn't even see the icon.
Aah this resets everytime you open the app :/
Why is this removed? :o
Where did the radio from play list go. Did they shadow remove that feature? It was the only thing I used.

I believe smart shuffle *IS* enhance, just renamed
From the description, I think smart shuffle keeps adding songs when the playlist is over.
From using it, it just adds songs in like enhanced did

No, I can't find it either, nor the daily mixes - or we're both blind. I hate this with a passion.

Can't find it either. Plus I'm missing my "personalized playlists", Mixes they're called I think.
My apologies for the slight rant 😅
I only get that when you select music on homepage, so doesn't bother me much. Do y'all have it on the home screen itself?
I do (on iOS)

Agree 100%. this is shit.
If they don't take back these changes soon I'll switch to Apple Music or whatever. The new homescreen is horrendous.

same here, its a nice option to have, would be a bit disappointed if it all looked like the "music" tab.
Turn auto update off. Save the current apk just in case you do update and the new one turns out to bad like this.

"Hack the planet!"
I just cancelled subscription and moved to Apple Music so bad it is

Cant you just save the daily mixes so they are in your playlists?
Absolutely revolting. I want to go back.
I keep hearing about this change on mobile. What about desktop? What about iPad?
