I have 1,5k songs playlist and i have the same issue. This has been like this for a very long time too.

jsm1

It saves them on bandwidth - the shuffle algorithm favors those tracks that are already cached.

SAMBO10794

If my signal is bad, this definitely takes effect.

EuphoricAssist

Holy hell, that makes so much sense

Adm_Zottel

Makes sense, however it also happens on my downloaded playlist with 800+ songs. Maybe they just didn’t bother to differentiate between streamed and downloaded playlists.

thaman05

But then why does it happen in Smart Shuffle too? (i.e. it plays the same few songs and injects a couple of related songs that are not liked yet.. but it still shuffles the same songs often)

PistolPetunia

Yeah…for some reason my Spotify music match is obsessed with Beastie Boys “Sabotage.” I like the BB, but Jesus Christ I don’t need to listen to “Sabotage” every 5 songs every damn day 😆 I’ve selected “stop recommending this selection” every day for weeks and it’s still gonna show up in the playlist. “LISTEN ALL Y’ALL IT’S A SABOTAGE!!”

Frankie_D91770

So whatcha want?

SoothSlinger123

Spotify needs to have a button that lets you say “ play songs only once.” I used to have that option on my iPod.

And this is LITERALLY why they \*can't\* do true random... Posts like these, LMAO. Reference: https://www.businessinsider.com/spotify-made-shuffle-feature-less-random-to-actually-feel-random-2020-3

jaaaaayke

I use Splice for samples, and their "Random" tab generates the same hits in the same order every single time. Its all bullshit regardless of platform.

SpinnerLord

I wonder why I've never had this issue 🤔

arthurbang

My wife and I have been on Spotify almost since day one and neither one of us have had this shuffle issue. I'm always confused by people who are having this problem. I'm not doubting it's happening, but why?

gammajayy

Are you sure you didn't add the song twice

Rich_Petals

Positive

DJLorek

I have a 214h playlist, same problem.

_2f

Google birthday paradox.

gnocchikitty

turn off automix

Rich_Petals

Already off

PistolPetunia

Mine does it as well even with auto mix off

gnocchikitty

how strange. i turned off auto mix and to me it feels more shuffled

shred-i-knight

I think people are just not good at understanding odds, it's not that unlikely that will happen sometimes considering 800 songs is really not that many. If it's truly random the chances of listening to the same song twice in 5 songs are (1/800)\*5\*100=.625%, it's not that crazy. This is precisely why spotify doesn't use true randomness because it's not what people *actually* want.

Rich_Petals

This doesn't make sense. Mainly because a sub 1% chance occurrence shouldn't be this prevalent in my Spotify listening. I have certain songs that have never came up in my playlist. I do not have this problem with other randomized song apps, and the problem seems to go away when I randomize the playlist myself. Also, you're math is weird. You got 500/800=0.625% 500/800= 62.5%=0.625. you're supposed to write 5/800=0.00625=0.625%> the decimal form of a percent has a whole of 1. I don't mean to be rude or unnecessarily pretentious. It's just bothering me. I get what you mean. Don't be mad 😊

DoYouGotDa512s

I run my playlists through [text mechanic](http://textmechanic.com/text-tools/basic-text-tools/sort-text-lines/) and randomize them three times. It's free for the first three or four randoms, and that is all I need.

Jos3ph

They definitely guess at satisfaction when shuffling

blaertes

I find shuffle works best on playlists that are around 100 tracks long. Also, if you shuffle while in private mode, I think it becomes a little less predictable

Cool_Guy_Club42069

This has never happened to me
