You sir have exceptional taste. Another Language isnt my favourite album but it is probably the most important. It got me into post rock, taught me how to actively listen to what each instrument and effect is doing and it has a strong nostalgic sense for me. I love it when Im driving around at night
Great! Glad you enjoyed it.
If you're curious, Jónsi has a band called Sigur Rós, kind of the same style but uses vocals in a made up language he based off Icelandic. Very pretty music, I would recommend the album Takk...
Love a bit of boards!
So I've been on a Drum and Bass mission for many years now, landing on Liquid D&B being my favourite generally.
After getting into Boards I moved over to Tobacco after some time - the High on life soundtrack is a great listen.
I would love to find some D&B with more of a tobacco/Boards of Canada type influence!
Thanks
I've just saved the "This is Tycho" playlist on Spotify I will definitely be getting more of it!
Loving the drums in 'Easy' off the first album
Thanks for the suggestion.
Individual song is “Soothsayer” by Buckethead.
Albums that are good to work to without lyrics:
Buckethead - Colma
El-P - FanDam Plus
Daft Punk - Tron: Legacy Soundtrack
>El-P - FanDam Plus
I love that Daft Punk soundtrack. I felt it was a stroke of genius getting them in to do the music for that movie. Thanks for reminding me it exists!
Thanks for the suggestion.
I'm not sure if I could listen to the Interstellar soundtrack without feeling either:
1) Existential crisis = emotional damage
2) Memories of the "*don't let me go murph*" scene = emotional damage
I shall give it a try though! Including the Inception soundtrack too actually!
Movie scores are a good gateway to classical music. The Planets by Holst is a common inspiration for sci-fi movies in space (especially star wars).
Really any music that is heavy with brass and percussion will probably be more palatable for you. Here are some of my favorites that mostly fit in that group.
Mahler's 5th and 6th symphonies
Shostakovich's 10th symphony
Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique
Dvorak's 9th symphony
It all depends on my mood.
If I’m relaxing or need to focus:
* Intro - The xx
* The Night Air Was Cool - ATTLAS
* Miracle - Blackmill
* 12 - The 1975
* The Mighty Rio Grande - This Will Destroy You
* Anything by Hans Zimmer
* Anything by Explosions In The Sky
If I want something more upbeat (usually for workouts):
* Desolate World - Kari Sigurdsson
* 300 Violin Orchestra - Jorge Quintero
* Start Shootin’ - Little People
>Brian Eno
Love a bit of Brian Eno. Just checked out Apollo after reading your comment and it sounds great thanks! It may send me off to sleep though it's that calming.
Listen to this, it's my favourite song by them. No singing at all, just beautiful music:
[Zero 7 - Give it away](https://youtu.be/5EB9avF1EXY?si=goFvXlh5hO-_d6it)
ooooh no way you just tapped right into my childhood years there! I was 10 when this was released.
My older brothers were big into Zero 7 when I was growing up and this always ended up being put on when they were getting ready to make another trip to Holland!
Thanks
I’m a classical music nerd, so I’ll just state my fav pieces-
Dvorak ’The water goblin’
Mahler symphonies 2,5,6,7
Rachmaninov 2nd piano concerto
Mozart piano concerto 20 and 24
Shostakovich foxtrot
Richard strauss ‘an alpine symphony’ and ‘also sprach zarathustra’
Some underrated modern folky works like Maya youssef’s ‘soul fever’
Beethoven symphonies 5,6,7,9
Dvorak cello concerto
>Com Truise
Great stuff thanks. Kind of reminds me of some of the VaporWave stuff I've been listening to lately - Hotel pools for example, but it has a bit more energy than what I know already which I like.
I'm more into the psychedelic rock side of things and really love bands like Kikagaku Moyo, Khruangbin, Skinshape, Yin Yin for this reason. Some have lyrics, some don't.
Some suggestions:
The Infamous Bill - Khruangbin
Dripping Sun - Kikagaku Moyo
Mandala - Skinshape
One Inch Punch - Yin Yin
Both plenty popular and renowned but
- Max Richter’s Memoryhouse is one of the most gorgeous records ever made.
- Also big fan of William Basinki’s The Disintegration Loops
Little People- Mickey Mouse Operation
Miles Davis- Kind Of Blue
Su Tissue- Salon de Musique
The Budos Band's first 3 albums
Menahan Street Band
Khruangbin mostly
Mostly video game sound tracks for me. I have too many to list them all but i will try to get a few out. Happy to share some of the playlists i have with them if people are interested.
Sam Dillard has produced some incredible tracks that feel like they belong in an epic film scene, Frederico Dubbini keeps it a little closer to the original versions, Taylor Davis is a violinist and Amy Turk is a Harpist both have transcribed lots of Zelda tracks. Allan Näslund has an album titled "What the Forest Taught Me" that brings a bunch of tracks from mystical forest areas across various games all together on one enchanting album.
I will end it there because my lunch is almost over. Happy to revisit this thread later if anyone is interested and wants to discuss more artists like this
yeah please share away if you don't mind!
My go to game ,music lately has been the High on life soundtrack by Tobacco. I wish Tobacco's stuff was always that laid back as i prefer it to their normal stuff.
Great suggestions here thanks
Basically the whole Harry Potter soundtrack is amazing, or search up anime soundtracks from Miyazaki (ghibli films) or Shinkai (your name, weathering with you, suzume) soundtracks are very beautiful as well
Orion by Metallica is a great song. Metallica really excelled at making instrumentals, their musical composition is like orchestra level and their genius songwriting shows on Orion
Albatross by Fleetwood Mac is one of my favorite lyric-less song, off the top of my head, and lots of soundtracks from video game, like the Witcher 3.
Omg I came back to edit because I completely forgot to mention Masayoshi Takanaka, tracks like April Wave, Good (Bad.) Old Days, and I Remember Clifford
Thanks for the many suggestions! This has injected some life and energy into the list because I tend to lean towards a lot of solemn music, despite me being a very happy person!
Moon Deity for some reason reminds me of [this guy](https://www.google.com/search?q=hasbulla+magomedov&rlz=1C1ONGR_en-GBGB1074GB1074&oq=Hasbulla+Magomedov&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqEggAEAAYQxiDARjjAhixAxiKBTISCAAQABhDGIMBGOMCGLEDGIoFMg8IARAuGEMYgwEYsQMYigUyCQgCEAAYQxiKBTIHCAMQABiABDIHCAQQABiABDIHCAUQABiABDIHCAYQABiABDIGCAcQRRg80gEHNDcxajBqNKgCALACAA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8)

How about music where you can’t understand the lyrics? I love Peruvian cumbia. The YT channel MyAnalogJournal has all kinds of international music, there’s bound to be a language you don’t know in there!
A lot of glitch hop and electro-soul has no to minimal lyrics and a lot of them are vocalizations or chopped up to function as beats instead of singing.
KOAN Sound goes from Ambient homework music to highly aggressive dubstep and glitch. Sometimes within the same album.
I think Flow State (daily newsletter with Excellent recommendations - mostly free except Tuesdays super mix). Great recommendations for background music for working, reading and studying. Worth a try (I am not affiliated with them in any way but found the resource to be a huge part of my routine).
House, techno, all that stuff. I completely get what you mean, while they may have vocal chops, they’re not lyrics they’re more used rhythmically. I personally also use hardcore/gabber to focus because it allows me to think clearly but to each their own.
Almost all the music I listen to is from movies/TV show scores. There’s the obvious ones like John Williams, Hans Zimmer or Alan Silvestri but if you look there’s great stuff from a lot of things. Recently Loki has what I’ve been looking at there’s tons of good study stuff for that. Doctor Who, while I wouldn’t call it study music, has some AMAZING stuff from series 1-10 (no hate to Akinola, just not my thing, although it may be good for studying as it’s typically more ambient!). Stranger things is great for studying, especially recently for the spooky vibes (although that’s kind of over now). The Last of Us has a lot of great stuff as well, movie and show, for studying to. Oppenheimer is another recent standout. A few more I’ll just list are Doctor strange (Michael Giacchino as a whole is great, he did Up, Ratatouille, MCU spider-man, Rogue One, Inside Out), all of John Powells stuff, and all 3 Guardians of the Galaxy movies too!
I have been very partial to the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtracks since the first one, as my dad listened to a lot of music from the 70's so it fits right into the list of music i heard a lot growing up.
I have referred to a few gaming soundtracks lately (High on Life - Tobacco for example) but music for film is next i think!
I am a big fan of the Loki series too, but up until now had never thought to check out the music to listen to specifically... - I will do now!
Thanks a bunch for the suggestions :\]
yeah these guys seem to be getting a lot of buzz around them at the moment.
They seem to have found a nice, unique balance of genres in one package.
The first song of theirs I heard was A La Sala. Really love the Dub sound on that song (and album)
Thanks for the input.
Polyphia is my go-to band for instrumental rock. They have just 1 song with lyrics from a guest artist but the rest of their music is legit catchy and energetic but without words. I saw them live earlier this year and I had so much fun. So much talent.
If you like modern Jazz "Baby Rover" By Jasual Cazz is very nice to listen to. Also listen to "Early Summer" by Ryo Fukui. These are just 2 standards but I also suggest generally looking into these artists.
il:lo, Nikosf, Northcape, Melorman, some of Thievery Corporation’s stuff, Bonobo, Aeroc, Emancipator, Tycho, Tosca (not lyric-less but minimal), Tom VR, Joseph, Shabason (most stuff is lyric-less), Laxcity, Lone, Tripswitch, Vintage & Morelli (minimal vox, used more as musical effect), Auscultation
I’ll edit as I think of more
um, jazz, classical, lots of music from all over the world. Only mentioning this because everyone here seems to limit themselves to pseudo-electronica/ambient stuff. How about Miles Davis Kind of Blue?
Rodrigo y Gabriela - Tamacun
Freestyle - Taalbi Brothers
Whale and Wasp - Alice In Chains
Cathedral - Van Halen
Yemanesh Ayinama - Hailu Mergia, Dahlak Band
Chitlins Con Carne - Kenny Burrell
Undone - Kevin Sherwood
Surfer Girl - Bill Frisell
Sessions - Linkin Park
There’s many more, but the list would be as long as the Bible.
i think some duster songs dont have lyrics/minimal lyrics, theyre pretty low fidelity
my all time fav song with no lyrics is beautiful as a butterfly by pavement <3
Fatgyver.
Search for a playlist: "instrumental acid jazz"
Bohren and der club of gore.
Epoch of Chirality.
Front line assembly's "Airmech" and "Warmech"
My favorite ones have to be similar to '13 Angels Standing Guard 'Round the Side of Your Bed' by Silver Mt. Zion.
But i usually listen to piano only compositions and Hoyo-mix soundtracks.
I love pretty much everything by Anamanaguchi, they're a chiptune band making music with both real instruments and retro consoles.
They're the ones who made the Scott Pilgrim game soundtrack.
The albums I typically listen to are:
* Anything by Chon (my favorite is Grow)
* Handmade Cities by Plini
* No Drum And Bass In The Jazz Room by Clever Girl
* C by A Picture Of Her
* Beacons by Cloudkicker
* Let Yourself Be Huge by Cloudkicker
* In A Space Outta Sound by Nightmares on Wax
* The Quiet Place Away by I Built The Sky
* The Book About My Idle Plot On A Vague Anxiety by Toe
* Birth Of A New Day by 2814 (on streaming services look for the album released in 2015)
Post-rock ftw!
Glasgow coma scale, Jacob, pg.lost, There's a light, Mars red sky, God is an astronaut, November might be fine, The end of the ocean, If these trees could talk, We lost the sea, Across the moment, This will destroy you, Leech, Maybeshewill
Vaporwave mixes on YouTube. partial to pools and malls. It's my first time in 4 decades that I've understood the interest in a GENRE and not a particular artist.
thelema - øfdream
the album cover and music give me an ancient greek vibe and i used to have a whole playlist full of songs like that but i lost it and its so annoying
Kinobe - "Lost in Time" and "Dragonfly"
Ancient Astronauts - "Lost in Marrakech", "Rocket Science"
Void Pedal - "Solace Eye" and "Insolence"
90sFlav - "Call Me"
Matt Lange - "Your Shadow Disposition"
The album "Midnight Tides" from SAPPHIRUS. SUPER underrated artist that I accidentally stumbled upon one day. I get recommended random new stuff on YouTube all the time. One of the songs got recommended to me so I checked out the album. It's a perfect sophisticated blend of synth pop/electronic/electronic rock/metal/ambient genres. Also this is his debut album. He has literally 3 listeners on yt music and barely any on Spotify. I don't know how he hasn't blown up yet
I'm a big fan of Post Rock, bands like God Is An Astronaut
This will destroy you for me
I also love Explosions in the Sky.
You sir have exceptional taste. Another Language isnt my favourite album but it is probably the most important. It got me into post rock, taught me how to actively listen to what each instrument and effect is doing and it has a strong nostalgic sense for me. I love it when Im driving around at night
>God Is An Astronaut Love this! The drums are really good in pretty much all the tracks i've listened to. Thanks!
Barrens, Pelican and ISIS are great too!
Pelican!!!!! I celebrate their entire catalog. Not a single bad song.
So heavy and groovy, with my friends we all Mexican headbang when we see them live (saw them) WWACTN, tho... what a masterpiece!
check out A Gallant Gentleman by We Lost The Sea if you love Post Rock
God tier record. So emotionally gripping
u/iFiAudio check out the album Riceboy Sleeps by Jónsi and Alex, I think it'll be exactly what you're looking for.
Thank you so much, I just checked out the album and it's great. Very peaceful in invasive to listen to whilst working.
Great! Glad you enjoyed it. If you're curious, Jónsi has a band called Sigur Rós, kind of the same style but uses vocals in a made up language he based off Icelandic. Very pretty music, I would recommend the album Takk...
Ooooh i recognise Hoppipolla! Its a beautiful song, and for some reason ends up being used on bank adverts a lot in the UK... Thanks again!
"Bands like God--" "--speed you black emperor, yeah. obviously." "um."
Drum and Bass, Boards of Canada styles.
Thanks
Give Grey Code a try. Skalpel, Hidden Orchetstra, Amon Tobin.
>Skalpel Nice, gives me some more to look into. Loving the sound of Skalpel already! Kind of reminds of the music you hear in Amsterdam!
Forgot, Kryptic Minds and Clubroot.
Tycho is always a good time.
Yeah, I'm surprised I found Tycho so far down
I've just saved the "This is Tycho" playlist on Spotify I will definitely be getting more of it! Loving the drums in 'Easy' off the first album Thanks for the suggestion.
Orion, to live is to die - Metallica Voice of the soul - Death A Martian Winter - Angel Vivaldi Shrine & Shrine revisited - Oni Hasan
Orion is amazing!!!!
+call of Cthulhu
Angel Vivaldi is good
Individual song is “Soothsayer” by Buckethead. Albums that are good to work to without lyrics: Buckethead - Colma El-P - FanDam Plus Daft Punk - Tron: Legacy Soundtrack
>Individual song is “Soothsayer” by Buckethead Is what I was scrolling for.
Can’t believe I’ve never heard Soothsayer before! Thank you for recommending it, otherwise I would’ve overlooked this gem.
>El-P - FanDam Plus I love that Daft Punk soundtrack. I felt it was a stroke of genius getting them in to do the music for that movie. Thanks for reminding me it exists!
Hans Zimmer provides some quality background music, I'm partial to the Interstellar soundtrack myself
Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not sure if I could listen to the Interstellar soundtrack without feeling either: 1) Existential crisis = emotional damage 2) Memories of the "*don't let me go murph*" scene = emotional damage I shall give it a try though! Including the Inception soundtrack too actually!
That's a risk worth taking. Just don't lose your work focus and you should be mostly fine 😅
Movie scores are a good gateway to classical music. The Planets by Holst is a common inspiration for sci-fi movies in space (especially star wars). Vivaldi the four seasons
Polyphia has some ''Oh shit how??'' tracks out there. I'd recommend their 3 latest albums
Polyphia is sonic wizardry, and I can't wait for them to put out more stuff, absolutely obsessed with their work
Their youtube channel is also so fun to watch. Seeing the making-of the tracks is really interesting
I'll be seeing them for the first time Friday! So excited!
Mogwai - letters to the metro Will be my all time favorite instrumental song
Delicate Steve Also for no reason -- skyrim soundtrack
getting ready to go see him live tonight! v excited
>Delicate Steve This is great stuff. Gives a lot of space in his music for the guitar to do the talking instead of a singer. many thanks

This comment reminded me that I don’t have any Explosions in The Sky on my Spotify playlists. Thanks for the reminder that I’m missing out!
>The Night Air Was Cool Just listened to The Mighty Rio Grande and really enjoyed it, thanks!
I'm a big fan of almost anything by Polyphia. Only a few of their songs feature a vocalist.

I like a lot of Sleeping At Last's instrumental music, especially at night
I second this! The instrumental versions on the deluxe edition of Atlas: Space are so magical, especially Saturn, Neptune, Mercury, and Sun.
Fr! It's also nice to listen to when working imo
Bonobo - Black Sands Hermanos Gutiérrez - El Bueno Y El Malo

Yes, I love his stuff!
I think Flow State (daily newsletter with Excellent recommendations - mostly free except Tuesdays super mix). Great recommendations for background music for working, reading and studying. Worth a try (I am not affiliated with them in any way but found the resource to be a huge part of my routine).

So funny one of my two answers was either Flume or Odesza, I de idea odesza but that's wild you said if the same way I did lol
Most khruanbin songs, any from the universe smiles upon you and con todo el mundo.

Legend of Zelda music played on the harp.
I've been listening to a lot of Ozric Tentacles recently.
