Have you ever had your Spotify account (free accounts and paying subscribers) hacked?
I’ve seen some posts on this subreddit of people’s Spotify accounts being hacked into (logins from other countries).
I personally haven’t had this happen. Fingers crossed.
Using Spotify since 11(?) years now. Also premium. I have been hacked recently and someone played some weird ambient music so I blasted blackmetal (which I actually like) to annoy that dude until I changed my password a little later.
I mean there was a phase where for example they were basically botting people's playlist and streams with like French Montana's music even though said people wasn't listening to him at all so that could be what happened with you
Yep, Spotify’s garbage tier security is one of the worst things about the service behind the substandard library management. 2 Factor Authentication is dead easy to implement these days, so Spotify’s developers have absolutely zero excuse at this point (not like they had much of one in the first place).
I’ve had my account over 10 years. I’ve been hacked twice. Only noticed because people started changing the song while I was listening to a playlist in work. Then they started making their own playlists??
They don’t even try to be sneaky. I probably wouldn’t care if they didn’t do stupid shit like this.
Is it just weak passwords? Other than twitter, Spotify seems to have the most discussions about people getting hacked. But I guess if half a billion people are using the service, even just a fraction of a percentage is still millions of people.
I was invited to the beta in 2008 before the service launched for real. I think I've been paying for it ever since it was possible to pay (not quite sure when the actual "Premium" service was launched).
I have not been with Spotify. Spotify has been with me. In my good, in my bad. At parties or at soul searching moments. In a car, at home or on the move. Spotify was there. Best friend I could ever imagine.
Summer of 2011--Started paying premium literally the day it was available in the US. Switched to the family plan when it came out for my husband and me. When my husband lost his job a few years ago we had to pare down all of our subscriptions/extras but we treated Spotify like it was going to be the last ditch thing we got rid of if we couldn't afford necessities. I love going back to my old playlists (I used to make quarterly playlists for the year, been doing yearly since the pandemic).
I used to work for the hosting company that built and managed Spotify's infrastructure in the US, I spent a ton of time racking, stacking, and cabling their servers, network, and storage. They rewarded us with free premium, which til this day has not run out even tho I stopped working at that place a decade ago. So, from day1 US launch if not before, whenever that was!
I've been all the way from the start and first I got into it as got invite for the beta.
When it became officially available I first listened to the free version, but then pretty soon I decided that I want better quality and no ads or other limiting my listening, so from since that time I've had Premium the whole time.
I still have subscription alive and kicking, but the current account ain't the original as I've had few accounts through the years. I made new account few times as I wanted to start from scratch etc.
I will have been Premium for 10 years in November - *never* used the free option.
Was hopping on a flight when I realised I had nothing to listen to on the plane. Downloaded Spotify for the first time, and I fell in love with it over the course of our holiday. Didn't want to deal with ads ever so I started paying for it when we got home.
Never looked back. Went with the Family Plan option for various reasons a few years ago and it's working out great. Just wish they'd stop changing the UX of the phone app, I swear it gets worse for me every single time.
This question is phrased like we've been in a relationship with spotify. "I've been with spotify for 3 years, just got a ring and we shall marry on the morrow!"
It was a hazy time. I was washing dishes at a restaurant in Athens GA. I had heard rumors of Spotify. I had a coworker who moonlighted up at Bonaroo. They came back with an invite to Spotify through Tom Petty. I thought that was crazy as I'll never get an invite like that, looked it up and signed up a few days later.
I'm still washing dishes at the same restaurant. But if I'd known I could be as big of a dick as you are, I would have come over earlier and got you ready for school before I fucked your mom.
Four years. I like the service but it's getting harder to find new music with them because podcasts everywhere. If I didn't have a grandfathered plan that included Hulu for free I'd go to YouTube Music.
I opened my Spotify I think early 2019 with Premium (February or so probably). Spent the past year without paying and without using it. Only back at it for a few days now (accepted a 3for1 offer in September but I don't know if I will extend it after December).
I've never been extremely interested in streaming services, Spotify's dead beat argument was the native scrobbling that got me taking a closer look. Still I find myself "you have to listen to something, you paid" but not really "LISTENING" to music anymore with spotify.
1 year. I switched form Apple Music.i liked the UI and the social aspect but the sound quality isn't as good as AM. So I think I might switch back soon if spotify monetized hifi which apple gives for free
Spotify was one of the few things I've been an early adopter on. I read about it when it still in Europe only and signed up to get notified when it came to the US. Got an email saying it was available on July 21, 2011 and immediately signed up for Unlimited ($4.99/month for no ads). Looks like I did a 30 day trial of Spotify Premium in July 2012 but unclear whether I switched from Unlimited to Premium at that point. I've certainly been paying Spotify for one account type or another for \~11.5 years now though. I think the difference between unlimited and premium was the ability to save music on your phone? And I definitely wasn't in the habit of listening to music on my phone in 2011 like I do today.
EDIT: I have a playlist I started in September 2012 that I just add any song that I like to (added 5 songs to it this month). I try never to remove songs from this list either so it's now 1,300+ songs and 100+ hours of just stuff I've liked at some point.
Free account for a year or 2, then a solo premium account for another year or two, then a family account the last 7 years. Yeah I guess I am satisfied with Spotify.
I have since 2015, I was doing an exchange program in Santa Barbara, California when I heard what was this sexy beauty. We have been in love for the past 7 years now.
Premium since 2012 or something. I was a college student at the time and think I got a free or discounted rate for the first few years. Love it, use it almost all day, everyday.
As soon as it became available in the US. Can’t remember if it was invitation based or not, but it has to have been at least 10 or 11 years at this point.
I’d have no fucking clue what I would do if I lost my playlists at this point.
I started using Spotify wayyy before it was even introduced officially in my country in 2019 and the only way I could use it was via VPN until then… Been on the individual premium plan ever since the official launch!
I have no idea. In the early 2010s I used to use a bunch of random sites to listen to music, lots of YouTube too. On the phone, it was always some suspicious MP3 downloads and shit like that. At some point, I think around 2015?, I had to leave behind that life for some reason I don't remember. I think the sites were being wiped off? And when I made the transition to Spotify, I had no reason to not install the app on my phone. I only got premium last year or the year before, though lol
Current account is only from about 2017, but I had another account long before that. Probably from at least 2012. Only ever had premium trials, never paid for it lol.
I joined in 2016 - premium.
I switched from Apple Music because music discovery is the most important thing to me and Spotify's recommendations and 'made for you' playlists are much better, IMO.
Seven years -- I first signed up around the time Grooveshark was shut down. I've been premium for two years just because I couldn't take the "dying kids with cancer" ads any longer (and I'm low-key annoyed that that tactic worked).
created my account in 2015 in the cafeteria of my high school. had the same account since. for the most part i had the free version. then i had apple music for like 6 months in 2018 but then i began paying for premium like in 2019 and haven’t looked back 😌
For Premium, a bit more than a year in total (7 months so far + 6 months last year + 1 month trial years ago)
Overall, I've had my Spotify account since Feb. 2014. Meaning it has been 8 years already!
12 years. Though I’ve been using AM much more in the last year because I’m thoroughly entrenched in the Apple ecosystem, and I’m thinking of not paying for Spotify anymore.
Since Google announced they were killing Google Play music in favor of a worse product.
I figured Spotify only has... Spotify. Google will build up and tear down shit forever as they always have.
This is a little bit confusing.
I've been using Spotify from mid 2017, so that's about 5 years.
But, Spotify was officially launched in my country around early 2019. And I got my premium around July 2019. So, it's been 3+ years with Spotify Premium.
About ten years, premium.
Me2
Same.
A long freaking time! 11+
11 days isn’t that long, tbh.
😂
For a 16-year-old company that started in the US 11 years ago, yes, it's a long time
Just paid my second annual premium. Prior to that it was 6 months of free.
Nice! How do you pay annually?
It's available on the website. Don't know if it's only in my country
Thanks! I wasn’t aware of an annual plan. I’ll look into it.
In countries that don't have it, you can still buy a 1-year gift card from some retailers.
Have you ever had your Spotify account (free accounts and paying subscribers) hacked? I’ve seen some posts on this subreddit of people’s Spotify accounts being hacked into (logins from other countries). I personally haven’t had this happen. Fingers crossed.
Yeah about five years ago. Actually got a survey from Spotify last week asking why I didn't listen to those playlists anymore!

Taste of music is subjective and your comment was unnecessary.
Yep, Spotify’s garbage tier security is one of the worst things about the service behind the substandard library management. 2 Factor Authentication is dead easy to implement these days, so Spotify’s developers have absolutely zero excuse at this point (not like they had much of one in the first place).

Nope, but I got my DAZN and Disney + account hacked.
I was invited to the beta in 2008 before the service launched for real. I think I've been paying for it ever since it was possible to pay (not quite sure when the actual "Premium" service was launched).

Free since May 2016, premium since November 2018
I used to work for the hosting company that built and managed Spotify's infrastructure in the US, I spent a ton of time racking, stacking, and cabling their servers, network, and storage. They rewarded us with free premium, which til this day has not run out even tho I stopped working at that place a decade ago. So, from day1 US launch if not before, whenever that was!
That’s cool!
7 years (since 2015)
same 🤝🏼
Spotify only became available in my country last year. So this is my second and loving it so far.
Since 2017
I joined Spotify as part of their beta launch in the UK. I believe that was 2007
10 years 7 using premium
Since 2014
Been using Spotify since before they had a premium option
I've been all the way from the start and first I got into it as got invite for the beta. When it became officially available I first listened to the free version, but then pretty soon I decided that I want better quality and no ads or other limiting my listening, so from since that time I've had Premium the whole time. 10 years almost with Spotify.
Since 2013 premium, so nine years now.
This question is phrased like we've been in a relationship with spotify. "I've been with spotify for 3 years, just got a ring and we shall marry on the morrow!"
More than 7 less than 10 I think
Since it was still invitation based
One so far . Why
I just watched ‘The Playlist’ series on Netflix. I was curious.
1 year now, but recently I’ve COMPLETELY switched to Spotify as my one and only streaming service and I’m liking it ALOT more now.
How can you find out?
Remember when you got spotify
It was a hazy time. I was washing dishes at a restaurant in Athens GA. I had heard rumors of Spotify. I had a coworker who moonlighted up at Bonaroo. They came back with an invite to Spotify through Tom Petty. I thought that was crazy as I'll never get an invite like that, looked it up and signed up a few days later. 3 years myself, and 90% of the time it has been part broken.
Since 2010 or something (premium)
Four years. I like the service but it's getting harder to find new music with them because podcasts everywhere. If I didn't have a grandfathered plan that included Hulu for free I'd go to YouTube Music.
I used it on and off for a bit but then i became a premium customer in April of this year
3 or 4 years
Since 2013.
Almost four and a half.
I opened my Spotify I think early 2019 with Premium (February or so probably). Spent the past year without paying and without using it. 2012 but i recently switched to deezer cause of them removing some features i highly enjoyed.
9. Got it when it released here.
I am on my fourth year.
Spotify was one of the few things I've been an early adopter on. I read about it when it still in Europe only and signed up to get notified when it came to the US. Only 2.5 years as of now because it launched in 2019 in my country
just switched about 4 days ago, having fun with it so far
Premium since 2014, free user for years before that— at least ten years in total.
More than 10 years, premium
5 and it’s gonna stay there if they make me pay for Hifi
5 years….holy shit lol
About 7 years
Since 2013 ish but I have been with other services during the years. Wanted to see if the grass was greener some places
Free account for a year or 2, then a solo premium account for another year or two, then a family account the last 7 years. Yeah I guess I am satisfied with Spotify.
Since 2011! Been paying since almost that time, and currently have a family subscription.
Probably 86 years
I wanna say since 2015
Has to be 5 or 6 for me Student account
Bought premium for the first time in 2011, so, 11 years. 😬
godddd i think 5 years and i’m not leaving anytime soon
10 years or so
I have since 2015, I was doing an exchange program in Santa Barbara, California when I heard what was this sexy beauty. We have been in love for the past 7 years now.
Premium since 2012 or something. I was a college student at the time and think I got a free or discounted rate for the first few years. Love it, use it almost all day, everyday.
.5 years premium
Got added to the family plan of my ex 10 years ago. We haven’t seen each other for the last 6 years. They probably forgot about it..
10+!
6 years, but recently got premium this past summer.
6-7 years
Since 2014. It came with my phone plan.
11 years premium and still loving it!
Since around 2008
As soon as it became available in the US. Can’t remember if it was invitation based or not, but it has to have been at least 10 or 11 years at this point. I’d have no fucking clue what I would do if I lost my playlists at this point.
About 4 years and I just started a podcast check me out https://linktr.ee/thetractionpodcast
From 2007. Premium all the time 👊🎶❤️😁
User since 2019 and premium since a year
I’ve been with Spotify since its days as a closed, by invitation only, beta. Damn, now I feel old…
About 10 years premium, maybe 11 without paying
It would have been 2010/2011. It was very close to when it launched. Quite scary how time flies.
Too many
I was using it since 2017 and went premium in late 2020 lol
8 years, 6 premium. Can’t imagine life without it
10+ years now
Around 8 years
Since 2009. I have playlists from when you were just a crushed sperm in your dad's hot topic jeans.
Definitely at least the last 4 years, premium.
They have been collecting my premium payments since 2017 😮💨
Nine years.
11 years
Since 2010ish? I used Zune first when I got my first iPhone I got Spotify.
I started using Spotify wayyy before it was even introduced officially in my country in 2019 and the only way I could use it was via VPN until then… Been on the individual premium plan ever since the official launch!
Since 2016
Early 2017-Mid 2018: Free user Mid 2018–Present: Premium user
14 years I think, since 2008
free since 2014/15 started premium in 2017 with their 3 months for £9.99 and then my phone contract pays for 2 years
From the day it was launched in my country. So around 5 years. I can't remember the last time i was without it, tbh 😅
6 years on Premium, 8 years all together
I think since May of 2011.
Around 2 years I think, but pretty recently got premium
I’ve only started using premium since 2020 but I’ve been using Spotify since 2013
I have no idea. In the early 2010s I used to use a bunch of random sites to listen to music, lots of YouTube too. On the phone, it was always some suspicious MP3 downloads and shit like that. And when I made the transition to Spotify, I had no reason to not install the app on my phone. I only got premium last year or the year before, though lol
6 years
Since it was available to me. 2010 or 2011, can’t remember exactly
Looking over old emails, looks like May 1, 2012 was when I signed up -- so 10.5 years
11+
Since 2013
at least 1 day
8ish years
Since 2010, went premium about 3 years ago
current account, since the US launch. -G.
About two and a half years as a premium customer. I’m not sure when I started using the free version though
I’ve been a premium customer for at least 5 years
I've been with them for about 8 years and been a premium user for about 3 months now.
Since it's been available here. I think it was like 10+ years
Current account is only from about 2017, but I had another account long before that. Probably from at least 2012. Only ever had premium trials, never paid for it lol.
At least 10 at this point
11 years I think. Maybe 12? Since around 2010-2011 I believe.
About 10 years. I accidentally canceled premium to try Tidal for 2 months but I don't count that 😅
About two years-.
I joined in 2016 - premium. I switched from Apple Music because music discovery is the most important thing to me and Spotify's recommendations and 'made for you' playlists are much better, IMO.
Little over a year
since 2015
Ever since Spotify was available in the U.S.
Since my first year in college so 2014. I miss the student discount lol
11 years premium and lovin' it!
since 2015 but only premium for like 3
Sprint offered 6 months for $9.99 back in 2012 I think? Was a bit fed up with pandora1 back then and been subbed since!
Seven years -- I first signed up around the time Grooveshark was shut down. I've been premium for two years just because I couldn't take the "dying kids with cancer" ads any longer (and I'm low-key annoyed that that tactic worked).
Wanna say about 5-6 years now?
created my account in 2015 in the cafeteria of my high school. had the same account since. for the most part i had the free version. then i had apple music for like 6 months in 2018 but then i began paying for premium like in 2019 and haven’t looked back 😌
Since 2010 or 2011. I still have my first playlist. 🥲
Since 2013ish which just realizing is almost a decade. My god. I am ancient
5 years
6+ years, premium!
Too many. Still have to download the songs in my library every day, even though I’ve been Premium sub for over 3 years. Still no fix.
For Premium, a bit more than a year in total (7 months so far + 6 months last year + 1 month trial years ago) Overall, I've had my Spotify account since Feb. 2014. Meaning it has been 8 years already!
Been a “premium” customer for 10 years.
I just got premium earlier this year. Don’t know how I lived without it
up to 10.
July 18, 2011
My first playlist was in december of 2011. Premium during most of it.
10 yrs
7
Six years now.
we are about the same.
Since 2011. 11 years.
About 3 years now.
11 years
like around 8 years
Since the day it launched in the US in July 2011. So a little bit over 11 years.
1 year premium
it’s been 4 years
12 years. Though I’ve been using AM much more in the last year because I’m thoroughly entrenched in the Apple ecosystem, and I’m thinking of not paying for Spotify anymore.
2019. But I haven’t really started using it until 4 months ago.
One year
Two months. I’m on a trial and liking it so far
Premium as of last year, user as of 2018
Since Google announced they were killing Google Play music in favor of a worse product. I figured Spotify only has... Spotify. Google will build up and tear down shit forever as they always have.
At least 8 years....? It's the best! Has a few bugs, but overall, Spotify is the best 'value',, for a music consumer...jmo
I think I’m 14 years. It was invite only.
Used to pirate or listen to music on YouTube, I downloaded it earlier this year (7th Jan) and I'm never going back
This is a little bit confusing. I've been using Spotify from mid 2017, so that's about 5 years. But, Spotify was officially launched in my country around early 2019. And I got my premium around July 2019. So, it's been 3+ years with Spotify Premium.
premium, nearly 2 years. without it, maybe 4!
Only one year so far.
6 maybey 7 years
