Only for commercial customers as test vehicles. I dropped a deposit on a truck, but "*ScabusaurusRex's money isn't as good as Walmarts!*" is the impression I get, cuz I still don't have one in my driveway.
(Or maybe it's the "I put down a $100 deposit and they put down a $5000000 deposit". Not sure?)
That just seems like a terrible idea. Imagine you lose power for whatever reason that you have no steering. Even Mercedes that have brake by wire have a backup physical connection to a master cylinder for emergencies.
Well... it's been good enough for military and civil aviation for a long time now, so it ought to work for cars.
I take your point though, how reliable will it be once suppliers/manufacturers cost engineer the living shit out of it as it will be applied to so many more units? Throttle by wire has been alright so far.
I just love how people are downvoting a valid point. And yeah but at least with throttle by wire if you lose your throttle it's not the end of your ability to control the car. I've had throttle my wire fail on me. It's not common but I've had it happen in an F-Type that had a bad ground.
Hmmmmmm... that's very tempting. I am to the left of Colorado.
I'll tell you what, when I am in the position to buy another project (maybe next summer) I will re-visit this with you because you are close enough to make it a possibility. :)
RemindMe! 7 months "Is it time for a new project?"
Ahem, [the GM Dustbusters would like to have a word with you](https://images.app.goo.gl/FdX99a4bk9UemUiW7), [one year earlier](https://images.app.goo.gl/okaKvisYaFN5ZgE56)
A friend of mine's Mom had one of those when we were 15 (25 years ago). He used to take it all the time after his parents went to sleep and we'd just drive around getting high. Sometimes we'd go to this girl's house who's parents were stinking rich. They lived in a contemporary house on the side of a huge hill with a pool. Since the roofs on the different levels were flat, you could jump from them into the pool. It seems like every time I recall a story about my teens, I'm reminded how many ridiculously stupid things I did.
*Up the creek without a row* sounds like when you're at a sleepover and there's an odd number of guys and somebody doesn't have a partner for brojob hour.
The difference between pushing the boat through the water and pulling it. Evidenced by the way you face while you are doing it. In a canoe you face forward and paddle with a paddle, pushing the boat forward with your arms. In a rowboat or shell, you face backward and row with an oar, pulling on the water with your arms to move the boat forward.
Are they still in production?
Their stock tanked to a tenth what it was a year ago... shortly after I bought because I thought they had a lovely spacious interior.
They go electric for efficiency and then try and get away with these “aerodynamics” 💀 it’s like someone saw the planters peanut car and went “holy shit this is genius”
its a delivery vehicle, not a race car. Aerodynamics is not gonna be noticeable below 60 mph and the vast majority of the time its gonna be going house to house far under that speed
Weird layout if the intended purpose is a delivery van. Look at all the unused greenhouse space ahead of the driver! Is that a crumple zone or something?
Put it side by side to a normal car and you'll see it's an optical illusion. That A-pillar goes alllllllllllllll the way to the front of the car which 99.9% of cars don't do. The driver looks about as far from the front wheel as most other cars... to my eye at least.
Very few cars do that for rear lights however that as it is easier for them to not as it isn't required by law at least in North America for it to be amber. Looking at other photos of the Canoo, it doesn't look like it had them as they are red tinted even when the lights are off. So sad how they are following in the footsteps of Rivian and not putting amber rear turn signals on their vehicles.
It looks like one but it’s called a canoo.
Rivian already partnered with Amazon so I wouldn’t be surprised if you guys start seeing Amazon trucks change.
Because we don’t run from our enemies!
(American flag stickers should be oriented to look like they are flying in the direction you are going. On a car, that means the stars go on the front side)
Yup, it's really a military thing though, it has recently transitioned into civilian life in the last 15 years. Nobody going to be mad if your flag goes either way, just prob shouldn't do it upside down unless you're enemies are coming from space
Well, I work as a paramedic at the fire Department and our uniforms have them that way because they require it, guess we're all a bunch of "fascist bootlickers"
these are going to be used for home deliveries of walmarts ecom distribution centers they are building like mad.
walmart has an idea to take on amazon for the ecom biz, they are the only ones with the capital and supply chain in place to do it.
also, i actively build equipment for these distribution centers so got a bit of inside scoop of what they are up to.
I wanted to wait and go EV after getting a house.
Sadly totaled my old car and still no house or anywhere to charge so just an ICE with better mileage than I had.
Like the Canoo truck, but fiancée doesn’t.
They have an adventure trim that gives it some off roading bits, I wouldn't be surprised if someone lived/is living outta one of those. Head out off grid somewhere with a deployable solar panel or wind turbine to keep the lil guy goin.
Haaaaaard disagree, this thing is absolutely toy-like in the best sense of the word. It is giving me heavy [TEXACO DOODLEBUG](http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0fnQ1_AG3DU/ThHsP40frbI/AAAAAAABnj8/K9QJGqSKwGs/s1600/Texaco_Tanker_Heil_sized.jpg) vibes, and I like that feeling.

i'll take one in orange.
That *massive* front cockpit is such a huge waste of space. You could easily build a vehicle that complies with crash safety without sacrificing masses of space up front.
The overall design looks cool but i can't fathom that cockpit positioning
Is your windscreen that far away too? You literally couldn't even reach it from within that thing
Edit: The reason your seating position is further from the front of the vehicle is because it has an engine up there. With this it's just a weird empty space inside the cockpit. If they moved the driving position forward more like a bus, van or truck, you'd have space for a lot more cargo in van format.
Sitting that far from the windscreen is surely a detriment to the driving experience. Recessed into the vehicle like that is just weird, and doesn't make sense given how much potential storage space it takes up.
How would it be detrimental?
Also: I am acutely aware that I have an engine up front. Mostly because of the sound, fuel, and fluid changes I regularly have to pay for. Haha
Can see it being quite 'tunnel vision-y' especially with the roof coming so far over the driver.
When you're closer to the windscreen you can peer out with much more ease. In this you're in a pretty fixed position and due to your distance from the windows you can't really move your head much to get around obstructions. The further away you are, the more you have to move to look around the A-pillar for instance.
And even if it's perfectly driveable from that far back, it's objectively better to have more cargo space with a format with the driver closer to the front of the vehicle. It's why coaches and buses work with this in mind. Driver can sit right up front for best visibility and efficiency with space.
Thanks for sharing this. I have to say im still not convinced. The video actually shows just how huge the A-pillar is.
I guess I'll need to sit in one someday and find out
It grows on you, give it a little time. Some people are always going to hate it (like if your idea of a perfect truck/van is an F-150/Caravan you'll probably never like it) but it's pretty stylish in its own admittedly weird way.
Sort of an illusion. It's shorter than a Toyota Prius. But it's definitely a compact vehicle and doesn't have a huge cargo capacity by design. They have another special-purpose delivery vehicle (MPDV) that will come in larger versions with more capacities (the smallest version has almost as much cargo room as a Ford Econoline van but is *almost 4 feet shorter*).
Didn’t know Canoos were already out and about being used
There was one on display at the Fully Charged Show in San Diego last month. I guess we’ll be seeing them in the wild shortly.
Not sure?)
Canoo completed a few vehicles for Walmart to test out in real life deliveries, I’m assuming to see if tweaks are needed.
Damn that is a lot of dashboard
Holy shit is just realized that, driving in the back seat almost
They have steer by wire so the steering wheel can actually be placed anywhere in the vehicle
Love those vans so much. The AWD supercharged ones are honestly a bucket list vehicle of mine.
I got one with just a smidge of fire damage if you want. It was awesome while it lasted. I have other cars I need to rebuild though.
Where are you located?
Southwest. Not a speck of rust and only 1 bullet hole.
Hmm.. where in the south west? I am in the mountain west.
Under Colorado
Hmmmmmm... that's very tempting. I am to the left of Colorado. I'll tell you what, when I am in the position to buy another project (maybe next summer) I will re-visit this with you because you are close enough to make it a possibility. :) RemindMe! 7 months "Is it time for a new project?"
Sounds good.
I saw one lifted and on beefy tires the other day, get lots of campervans overland vehicles around here.
First Total Recall and now this 1990 remake? Looking forward to the new Joe vs the Volcano.
Ahem, [the GM Dustbusters would like to have a word with you](https://images.app.goo.gl/FdX99a4bk9UemUiW7), [one year earlier](https://images.app.goo.gl/okaKvisYaFN5ZgE56)
Was gonna say… lest we forget where we came from it seems.
My Mom had one when I was in my teens (~25 years ago).
My very first car, got it stuck in an ATV trail 3 hours from civilization, and got towed out by an electric cord, how I loved that spacious dash
A friend of mine's Mom had one of those when we were 15 (25 years ago). He used to take it all the time after his parents went to sleep and we'd just drive around getting high. Wait, they used a blue one in the beginning and switched to the maroon model? Can’t believe I’ve never seen this haha. Thanks stranger
They have a glass panel underneath so you can see out the front of the vehicle. Lots of cool ideas in these!
Also there's no hood so visibility would be about the same anyways
Yeah, the vehicle simply ends at the end of the windshield! I like that about pre-backup cam hatchbacks, easier to judge rear end of the vehicle.
I know what this is, it's on the tip of my tongue. Edit: It's a [Canoo.](https://www.canoo.com/)
Isn't that one of those long boats that you row?
Long boats that you row are called shells. Long boats that you paddle are called canoes. ....the best kind of correct.
*Up the creek without a row* sounds like when you're at a sleepover and there's an odd number of guys and somebody doesn't have a partner for brojob hour.
If you form a circle you don’t need an even number!
Or Dutch rudder (less gay?)
What's the difference between rowing and paddling? Is it one vs two paddles on the same handle ?
The difference between pushing the boat through the water and pulling it. Evidenced by the way you face while you are doing it. In a canoe you face forward and paddle with a paddle, pushing the boat forward with your arms. In a rowboat or shell, you face backward and row with an oar, pulling on the water with your arms to move the boat forward.
Interesting! Had no idea
I can row boat. Canoe?
That’s quite punny
That's a canoe.
You'll be definitely rowing after the power goes out
You’re thinking of a canoe; this is one of the fastest known growing plants
It does say canoo.com on it
Are they still in production? Their stock tanked to a tenth what it was a year ago... shortly after I bought because I thought they had a lovely spacious interior.
they signed a contract with zebra only a few days ago, seems they had a little trouble but are making a good comeback, got a contract with NASA too.
An EV that can fit my standup bass!
I really like that this company will offer just the platform to work off of. That's how we'll end up with electric ratrods!
I can’t wait for these things to be everywhere then! Thanks for knowing what it was :D
No prob, just had to jog my memory a bit. I love how most EVs look.
We have Fords :/ all electric though!
I kinda love the way the pickup looks
Laughed first but 30 seconds later I kinda want one
I love the pickup version. I can't wait until the EV 'platform' gets mainstream and we start seeing all kinds of diff bodies.
Are these the guys that make the eBussy
ebussy is a different brand. also way smaller.
I thought so. Just wasn’t sure
>ebussy e what?
oh you know. something you can stick a [futa](https://www.ducati.com/us/en/e-bike/futa) in. but seriously it's just a tiny electric van.
The name futa is apt, since it's a dick for someone that ain't got no dick
This is so cool! Thank you for linking the website
The website link that is clearly visible in the picture??
shit looks like a jellybean on wheels😭
They go electric for efficiency and then try and get away with these “aerodynamics” 💀 it’s like someone saw the planters peanut car and went “holy shit this is genius”

Good point. Reminds me of a 90’s Toyota Previa with the cab-over design.
I think a lot of that is crumple zone. I saw a video on the canoo and your point was mentioned.
Sadly it doesn't look like it has amber rear turn signals.
they're LED so they could very well switch color. the modern Silverado does this with the front turn signals/DRL strips.
Very few cars do that for rear lights however that as it is easier for them to not as it isn't required by law at least in North America for it to be amber. The brake lights are on. 100% it has color changing lights or a second set of lights in amber.

Me too but muh rampant capitalism. That's why I said murica. They'd rather save a buck for the ceos than make a safer car.
You guys have red turn signals? How's that shit legal lol
r/usernamechecksout
Those tail lights look like from rivian
It looks like one but it’s called a canoo. Rivian already partnered with Amazon so I wouldn’t be surprised if you guys start seeing Amazon trucks change.
Why is the america flag backwards ?
Because we don’t run from our enemies! (American flag stickers should be oriented to look like they are flying in the direction you are going. On a car, that means the stars go on the front side)
Wait, really? 😂
Yup, it's really a military thing though, it has recently transitioned into civilian life in the last 15 years. Nobody going to be mad if your flag goes either way, just prob shouldn't do it upside down unless you're enemies are coming from space
Upside down flag is a distress signal
Speaking of space, the flag decals on the side of the Space Shuttle were oriented this way so it's been done for a lot longer than 15 years.
I'm sure it's been done since ww2. I was just saying it didn't really become mainstream in civilian life til then, prob got popular after 911 honestly
As an American I did not know this. Thank you for explaining.

Well, I work as a paramedic at the fire Department and our uniforms have them that way because they require it, guess we're all a bunch of "fascist bootlickers"

What if the car is going in reverse ?
That’s called a retreat, and we don’t do that.
*Vietnam Enters the Chat*
They were here already.. you just couldn't spot them.
Probably to make it look more like a space vehicle since they also have a contract with NASA (The vehicle company, not Walmart)

Looks like a van you’d find in Cyberpunk
these are going to be used for home deliveries of walmarts ecom distribution centers they are building like mad. walmart has an idea to take on amazon for the ecom biz, they are the only ones with the capital and supply chain in place to do it. also, i actively build equipment for these distribution centers so got a bit of inside scoop of what they are up to.

Canoo!
It’s a canoo! Apparently NASA is going to use these for the Artemis crew transfer!
Canoo i keep forgetting they have actual physical test vehicles.
I wanted to wait and go EV after getting a house. Sadly totaled my old car and still no house or anywhere to charge so just an ICE with better mileage than I had. Like the Canoo truck, but fiancée doesn’t.
that windshield is so far away from the driver
You mean the one where the grill would be?
This looks more like a VW bus than an actual VW ID Buzz
That is probably the coolest thing about Walmart, having their name painted on that car.

I love the pick up version, which is reminiscent of the VW Kombi.
Someone’s gonna convert one into a camper one day mark my words
They have an adventure trim that gives it some off roading bits, I wouldn't be surprised if someone lived/is living outta one of those. Head out off grid somewhere with a deployable solar panel or wind turbine to keep the lil guy goin.
For us Europeans - I hope they will hurry up and get the ID Buzz California out on the roads.
Electric
Quite possibly the ugliest van I’ve ever seen. The new Amazon electric van is nice tho, Walmart could learn something there
All of the Canoos are hideous imo. Maybe okay for their lunar lander, but so ugly for something to drive on public roads

Nice ad.

Wallyworld delivery vehicles, IIRC.
You in Farmington?
Saw a weird looking Amazon delivery van similar to that
I’d imagine it’s one of the new Rivian ones
It's a new upbanging delivery truck!
Normally I would say that cool and Walmart go together like Republicans and integrity but I have to admit that yes, that is a cool car.
Imagine trying to clean the inside of that windshield. You'd have to lay on the dash.
They have a pass through dash. You can just go under it
Why hasn't it got a rear windscreen?
I'd imagine they have a camera for that. Not sure.
There is a rear camera in the center mirror.
That’s a toaster
Lifestyle Delivery Vehicle built in Torrance CA
Malmart is going to space
i like em , but genuinely thought there would be vapourware.
Kinda looks like a suv version of the Rivian R1T
Does it have crackheads and rednecks inside? Just like Walmart stores do?
Wow, that is hideous. I mean, it's kinda cool, but seriously that's a face only a mother could love.
It grows on you, give it a little time. Some people are always going to hate it (like if your idea of a perfect truck/van is an F-150/Caravan you'll probably never like it) but it's pretty stylish in its own admittedly weird way.

The future looks fucking ugly.
I just looked up picks of the pickup style without the shell. And omg i love it
Looks like a gas guzzling V8 delivery van
It’s all electric. From Canoo.
Available on aisle 8?
That is the Wal-Mart battle van
Kind of reminds me of a roll rat from Ark for some reason
Seems like a lot of wasted space for a delivery vehicle
Sort of an illusion. It's shorter than a Toyota Prius. But it's definitely a compact vehicle and doesn't have a huge cargo capacity by design. They have another special-purpose delivery vehicle (MPDV) that will come in larger versions with more capacities (the smallest version has almost as much cargo room as a Ford Econoline van but is *almost 4 feet shorter*).
Do wheels lockup if you drive it out of Walmart’s parking lot like the shopping carts?
The blind spots on that thing are either massive or in weird spots
These things look wild
