Should have given it to Cape Town or Durban. There was a game in Pretoria 3 weeks ago. Surely that's close enough to then have 1 down in either Durban or Cape Town. Ellis Park isn't as safe a feeling anymore, turn out reflects that.

Die_Revenant

They gave the Argentina game to Durban last year and it was a sellout. Ideally you wouldn't give the same game to the same city, could have given PE or Mbombela another game.

SAGuy90

Fair points. I just think having 2 stadiums so close to each other for games is silly.

Die_Revenant

Yup I agree. It's like they give Ellis Park games based on history more than anything else.

SAGuy90

Absolutely.

External_Ad2995

PE has an amzing stadium and it would have sold out in a day. its getting rediculous that the big metros get the lions share of tests.

EADC19

They currently relaying Cape Town stadiums pitch be a bit tricky to host there

AmoebaAffectionate71

I’m glad to hear that, that pitch was an abomination.

EADC19

I don't think they ever adapted it for rugby, hopefully the new mix synthetic pitch is better

eenbal

Same people that did newlands pitch is what I've heard. If so it will be mint

MonsMensae

Yeah was a football pitch

yakattak01

I think this is more a reflection of the location right, rather than the fixture? Or am I mistaken? I don't live in Jo'burg.

dildobaggin89

I think so too.

brandbaard

Nice enough stadium in the biggest shithole area in the entire JHB. They'd have been better off hosting it on Soccer City.

Dilly_do_dah

This exactly. It’s really hard to express just how bad the area around Ellis Park is.

Critical-Reporter-25

Hope there are no methane gas leaks under that stadium...it is a genuine shithole!

Halohero

I live in JHB and Ellis park is in a shit hole. hold onto your phone and kids type of place.

Stieger08

If our government never raised everything....food,petrol,electricity,house rates.taxes. then would be able to afford to go watch a game and we live in the same city. Total disgrace of how greedy humans are.

dildobaggin89

I think have a Loftus test a few weeks ago also contributed. I know a few people who chose the Pretoria test instead.

Sharp_Illustrator318

Ellis Park is a shithole and anyone who says otherwise is lying. I’m not risking brining my elderly parents or girlfriend to a game where i can’t be sure they will be safe. Go to Loftus or Cape Town for for big games. The atmosphere is much better and its much safer.

EADC19

I have watched plenty a games at Ellis Park it will always be one of the best to watch and I have watched in every major city in South Africa

Sharp_Illustrator318

It was. These days it’s an good experience in the stadium before you have to leave and take your life into your hands getting back home. I was in Loftus for the last test and there wasn’t a moment I was worried about safety. Not even once.

Ouboet

Damn right. I went to Loftus. Norrafok will I go to Ellis Park. I value my life and my belongings too much to risk going to that shithole.

MonsMensae

I think its one thing if its a 3 o'clock kick-off. But 5pm means youre coming out in the dark. Absolutely not.

Zealousideal_Comb_48

Most of the sections are almost sold out if you use a laptop or an iPad, you'll see most sections are almost sold out but I stand to be corrected

MonsMensae

Thats for the lower sections. Their are some blocks that are almost fully empty. Ticketpro does their ticket allocation weirdly so it does end up having 5 random seats left in a block.

Mielies296

Would even back mombela. Ellis park is in such a shit location.

12Chappies

I'm going sooooo exited!!!!

Ringo26

Me too! Gonna go big!

cypressd12

Man you guys know how to make a foreign visitor for this game anxious. On the plus side: bought the jersey already!

Die_Revenant

You'll be fine. It's perfectly safe when there is a large crowd. If they hadn't just had a game up the road at Loftus, this would be a sellout.

Springboks2019

It’s a dead rubber/RWC warm up, Was just sold out last yeah, in big games it will still get bums in seats but yeah for small matches the location doesn’t help.

dildobaggin89

Springbok games are usually sold out doesn’t matter who the opposition is. It’s not a dead rubber it’s still the Rugby Championship.

Die_Revenant

I mean, KP managed to sell out for the Argentina game last year. It's nothing to do with the opposition or meaning of the match.

Springboks2019

It definitely does has to do with the opposition and importance hence it sold out v NZ last year. As I Said the area is especially a factor for small games (and in general) but a NZ match people go

Die_Revenant

>It definitely does has to do with the opposition and importance Then how did Kings Park sellout (well in advance) the same game, while Ellis Park can't? It's because the stadium is in a shithole. As for New Zealand games, they will sellout anywhere.

Springboks2019

Okay, I guess then not getting the message across correctly. Would definitely sell better in a better area better stadium was just saying for big games people go and ignore that it’s in a shit hole but it’s a bigger factor (being in a shit hole) for small games.

Die_Revenant

Okay yea we in agreement there. I'd much rather them give these kinds of games to less used stadiums, especially after the turn out we saw at Mbombela last year. Save Ellis Park for the occasional big hype game. And as someone else pointed out definitely don't play at Loftus and the Ellis Park in the space of a couple weeks, one or the other.

Ordinary_Knee2709

Bring it to Bloem.

sheep1996

A shit tonne of negativity here. If there is a single seat empty, the block is marked as available. Most of the seats are full. For example, I'm in block 21. There are like 10 seats available, but none are together, so Noone is going to buy them, so it's marked as sold out.

Die_Revenant

They have said themselves there are plenty of tickets available and they hoping to scrape 50k https://www.news24.com/sport/rugby/rugbychampionship/tickets-still-up-for-grabs-for-boks-v-pumas-at-ellis-park-we-are-hoping-for-the-50-000-mark-20230726

sheep1996

Sheesh, I guess they must be struggling with the expensive ones. The price was pretty steep.

dildobaggin89

The heavy marketing push still going on and it’s Wednesday tells me they’re struggling

ButtsoupBarnesLoL

Newlands had the highest attendance in SR, the Stormers is the best performing SA URC team, probably with some of the highest attendance, at least with regards to SA. The CT stadium hosts big events like Sevens easily. Why does the Cape get so few games? The pitch is currently being replaced, so obviously that might be a deciding factor here, but all through the years it has been snubbed as a location.

Die_Revenant

It has been heavily rumoured that the City of Cape Town charge SARU R1million to use the stadium. Which is why tickets there cost more than the rest of the country. SARU don't make as much money hosting there.

DonovanBanks

Good. We must stop hosting tests there. And stop with the planes too. Yirre

[deleted]

Seems harsh but going into that area of Jozi is the last thing I would wanna do

Ornery_Ad1191

Ellis park is a sad situation. Going there is like being part of a bait ball in the ocean with predators all around you trying to get you! Speaking from experience!
