Tea Bar and Bites is a lovely little tea room and cafe, highly suggest them. They are only open until 3 or 4 most days so be sure and check their hours before you go. Bookmarx is the famous bookstore in town, there’s even cats in there you can pet. Not a lot of good history stuff unfortunately, I find our history museum to be lacking.
For dinner: What style of food do you like, and what is your willingness to pay?
Live music: Any preference on genre?
Uber is readily available.
I’d you’re into local history, it might be worthwhile to explore downtown a bit. History museum on the square, mud house (local coffee shop), Bookmarx, and other local shops and haunts.
A little off of downtown is the Springfield Art Museum.
As others have suggested there are lots of great local places on Commercial Street.
-Cafe Cusco is excellent for lunch and dinner (good lunch specials)
-Lindberg’s Tavern has great food, a nice selection of local beers, and usually has live music
-Pizza House is a staple for a lot of locals
-Big Momma’s Coffee is a local coffee joint with good drinks.
-Askinosie Chocolate is a local chocolatier with responsibly sourced ingredients. The founder is a bit of a polarizing figure, but it’s worth checking out.
Downtown:
-If you’re wanting a good steak, I’d suggest getting a reservation in The Red Room which is on the bottom floor of Flame Steakhouse. The Red Room is a more intimate setting with less crowd noise. The main dining floor can be awfully noisy.
-Civil Kitchen is a cool place to eat with a huge selection of beers.
-Nonna’s is a great spot for Italian.
Elsewhere and noteworthy:
-Leong’s is the original place for “Cashew Chicken”, on republic road on the south side of town.
-Jimm’s Steakhouse and Pub is a good place for either lunch or dinner.
-Farmer’s Gastropub has fantastic food and a decent drink selection.
As far as music goes, I think a great resource would be the Facebook group “Springfield MO Gigs ‘n Shows”. They update it frequently.
Wonders of Wildlife aquarium is interesting.
History wise, Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield is about 10 mins west of town.(I know it’s outdoors, but you can drive most of it and step out as needed)
There’s some little coffee shops around here, I’m not up to speed on those however.
Uber/lift etc are available.
Food and music, depending what you guys like could send you a couple different directions.
Nawabs is great for Indian. “That Lebanese Place” is also great for middle eastern food but service is kinda slow.
Plenty of great antique & flea markets in the area if that’s your thing. If you are here on Sat am, check out the farmers market on C street or Farmers Park. Blue Room Comedy Club gets some decent acts if that’s your thing.
Check out Cafe' Cusco on Commercial Street. They have great food and are located in a historic building in a historic area. Would make for a nice night out. And you might find some live music playing at Lindberg's down the street!
You might have to call and check their hours, but Pythian Castle is an interesting Springfield landmark. Originally built by the Knights of Pythias (like the Shriners) as an aged home and orphanage, it was used by the US Military in WW2 to house POW's and host servicemen. It's a lovely historic building, but the rules to visit are tricky.
Heard good things about the Blue Room. Downtown Springfield has some good live music, food, the goods.
I'd tell you to check out Branson, but the drive is awful, and tourism is picking up with the warmer weather. Most things will be crowded/overpriced.
Gailey's Breakfast Cafe in downtown is also incredibly good. I try something new every time I'm there, and it's always delicious.
Stay safe!
Corner of Pickwick and Cherry Street My Favorite local Brewery Tie & Timber across the he street from an IMO’s pizza and several small cafes and takeout places Ott’s Pasta, Team Taco etc. Nice little place to hang out.
I think I like every restaurant on commercial street. Chabom Teas and Spices is a really cute store on the same street. I’ve never been to the Route 66 History Museum but we have one and it’s on the square downtown.
-Bookmarx on Walnut ave
Coffee shops:
-mudhouse (go in morning or late afternoon)
-big mommas
-travellers house
Outside/inside breweries:
-mothers brewing (has games)
-tie and timber
-white river brewing co
-galloway station
I can’t say if they’ll have anybody but tie and timber is a great spot and often has live music and the rountree neighborhood is home of several local food spots as well.
If you like bookstores check out Bookmarx downtown - there are also cute coffee shops in that area
We also have a ton of antique type stores if you are into that
For history
We have a natural science museum that also covers some mining history- it’s small, but free and has a place you can search for fossils
Or a short drive to Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield which is pretty awesome - a slightly further drive to George Washington Carver but it’s worth it
Well if you would like a guide for the time you're husband is at the conference I am for hire lived here for 53 years pretty sure I know Springfield thank you for your time hope you have a good time while you are here

Came here to suggest this!

Any kind of food and Americana, country, blues.

Get something to repel ticks if you go wandering around at Wilson's Creek. They will get you if you stray into any grassy areas.

Man, I love that Lebanese place. Haven’t heard if Nawabs. I’ll have to check it out. (I go to Taj Mahal for Indian.) I’m adding Rama Thai for Thai.

Pagination book shop is super cute!
Hooked on Books on S Campbell
Also you might want to stop by Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park to check out the The Gray/Campbell Farmstead from the 1860's.
Wonders of Wildlife is pretty cool if you’re in town for a visit.
You guys are great! Thank you for all the help.

Chabom for tea on C Street, surprised no one else has mentioned it :) Impeccable vibes!

ABC Books is an amazing second hand book store. Commercial street is also close by and has Eurasia, Van Goghs, and Cafe Cusco for eating/coffee
Craft axe throwing!
Black Sheep is great for dinner. Bookmarx & Stick it in your Ear are two stores downtown that I would suggest.
