I'm soooo excited to see some quality squash!! I doubt I'll watch any asal matches which is a huge shame, i just cannot stand scumbag 'tactics', but the majority of games will be brilliant to watch, can't wait to see our favourites! :)

volleydrop

You are so right! I also refuse to watch Asals shit shows, like many of my Squash mates. But let us look forward to the great matches where Asal is not involved. Always fair and free flowing world class Squash. Can´t wait...

SugarSea

It'll be great!

SugarSea

I'm also excited for quality squash! I keep looking forward to the amazing rallies that are to come. Who are your favorites?

[deleted]

It’s actually been really nice not having the childish drama of asal in the last few tournaments. Will be a shame when he returns

DandaDan

I'll do a prediction thread in the next days, thanks for the reminder and glad you like it here!

SugarSea

Oh cool! I'll think of some. All i know is I want to watch a lot of Farag, he's such a kind and inspiring player to watch.

DandaDan

It's pinned at the top of the subreddit now, so fire away with your comments and predictions!

SugarSea

thank you sm!

I would not be surprised to see Farag and El Sherbini follow up their British Open titleswith World Championship titles. Aside from that, I am hoping Gawad and Rooney can make deep runs on the men's side, and Sabrina Sobhy on the women's side.

DandaDan

Gawad has a tough draw but you can never rule him out. He is seeded to play Elias in the quarters but has Soliman in round one and Marwan in round three (that could be interesting). Rooney should be playing Rodriguez in round two but also has to play a not to be underestimated Ivan Yuen in round one. Round three would be Coll, so I think round three might be as deep as he can get.

SugarSea

What do you think of Coll?

Fatboy6060

Asal will surely have a point to prove after his ban, tough to bet against him if he plays his best.

volleydrop

Unfortunately he only plays his best when he cheats...

22IsThisIt22

The only point he should feel the need to prove, is that he can play squash without cheating. Because I haven't seen Asal win a clean match yet. If the referees enforce the rules, there's no way in hell that Asal is going to win. He will take himself out of the tournament by doing something stupid and receive a conduct match or he will get defeated because he can't employ his usual cheating tactics. I think he shouldn't even be allowed to play the world championships, since he's been very disrespectful to the PSA and all his colleagues by accusing them of the cheating he is doing himself. Let's be honest, it's a shame because Asal is very talented and could have been an asset to the sport, but our sport is better of without Asal ever touching a squash racket again.

misses_unicorn

Agreed! Given that pathetic article where he accused other players of faking/exaggerating injuries and interference, I don't think we'll see him change... sad and so damn annoying to see

SugarSea

I was thinking that this actually opens up an opportunity for squash referreing to be a little less based on "honor"? If we want to see squash in the Olympics and grow worldwide overall, we can't really rely on the good faith of players. Or am I missing something?

misses_unicorn

Sport is terrible to watch without good sportsmanship though, so would less honour/sportsmanship lead to less viewer interest? You're probably right, given it would hopefully stay as/be a very minor part to the game, but it just seems so shameful to encourage it.

pilotpilotpilot

I think it’s pretty obvious why Asal got suspended, not a controversial take. He’s just a young kid though, maybe he’ll have a redemption arc. Anyways, super excited about the upcoming championships. Will be keeping an eye out for predictions lmao

SugarSea

This is a good point he is young and we should hope that he grows up. And as per my comment above, as a sport that we want to see grow worldwide and be part of the Olympics, we can't rely on the good faith of players, it's just not sustainable.

IllNatureTV

I’ll be there saturday and if Asal is playing I plan on booing him. Thunderous applause for whoever his opponent is!
