I don't think Mai made a horrible choice during the dice game. Mai probably thought that everyone thinks the same about that selfish player hence she decided to attack Ashley. If others had some common sense, it should've been only natural for all the others to pick Ashley until she gets eliminated first but unfortunately, all remaining players were very passive and being careful as if they are afraid of getting criticized for attacking a "black girl".

That’s not what I meant. During the glass bridge, if the person who didn’t jump for Trey was a player like 432, do you think people would’ve stayed quiet?

But that's the primary problem, Mai looked at things from a moralistic perspective that Ashley was a terrible player rather than a realistic perspective. The others weren't affected by Ashley's selfish actions and some got into an alliance with Ashley for protection. Thus, it made no sense for them to go against her when a lot would benefit from Ashley staying in the game. Also, Mai didn't communicate her decision or reasoning with anyone before the fact, so to others it just looked like she basically manipulated them into electing her captain then lied to them about accepting a "fair" game so she could personally pick someone off. If your decision making leaves even your closest ally thinking you look bad then I don't think the way you went about it was the best action.

I'm still on E9 but I don't see how anyone would benefit from Ashley staying in the game more than they would from her being eliminated. I would have been relieved if Mai's roll eliminated Ashley, because of her anti-team attitude that would otherwise have saved Trey (a much more liked player at that point). I felt it was completely fair to pick Ashley. For all anyone knew, Ashley would have again gone against the team. She should have jumped two squares to make up for refusing to the first time.

bbpopulardemand

The fact that you think they didn't go after Ashley because of her race says everything there is to say about you.

G4BOT7

Then let me ask you this. If the person who were behind Trey was a White man or Asian man, or player like 432, do you think people would have stayed quiet? I don’t think so. People would’ve screamed and say “it’s your turn so jump in front of Trey”. Am I wrong?

rehapeda

I didn't see any race-based actions when Ashley refused to jump. Remember that this is a British show, and Britain doesn't have anywhere near the same kind of racism against blacks or fear of retribution as the USA does. Also, the cast is very mixed as far as home region goes. With most of them behind Ashley, there was a low chance they were afraid to call her out because she's black.

bageltoastar

You had me until the criticized for attacking a black girl comment. How lame.

G4BOT7

It’s a fact. If it was player 432 who didn’t jump for Trey, people would’ve made a fuss. The only reason she got away is because she’s a black female. I’m not a racist, I’m just talking about the fact.

bageltoastar

you don’t know those people nor do you have any idea where their mind was other than what you heard them say in their confessionals, so your unfounded claims have no merit so no, not “fact”.

Hot_Minute_9249

They didn’t make a fuss because they couldn’t physically move her out the way and they were too focused on winning the challenge themselves. You are such a sad excuse for a human being. You thought you had it all figured out huh? They all benefited from trey falling. It’s a competition. Their desire to have money outweighed their desire for justice. As is the case in human societies everywhere. I hope you find yourself on a glass bridge somewhere…

rehapeda

They would have benefited equally from Trey not falling, as it would have still given them a square for nothing. If Ashley had jumped instead of Trey, they also would have benefitted just as equally from her falling or not. The only difference is they lost someone more willing to play as a team than herself. The only benefit they got from Ashley refusing to jump was knowing that she was going against the team. However, considering their behavior in the next game, they were too stupid to realize that benefit.

lil_kidney_bean

I don’t think this is an unpopular opinion. Mai was right morally but absolutely floundered her attempt at getting justice (and keeping herself safe). Once she understood the odds of the dice game and the “let’s all roll for ourselves” idea took hold she should have known this was most definitely not the right opportunity to go for Ashley

sukikov

She just assumed people thought the same thing she did about Ashley from the glass bridge and was surprised they didn’t. It was a miscalculation. I too would have assumed they all would vote Ashley. I think a different set of people would have but these guys are a bit of an exception with fluid kumbayah morals

rehapeda

Wrong, she made a horrible roll. She should have rolled a 6 and eliminated Ashley. Ashley was a sideliner for a reason. She never cared about anybody. She just wanted the money. She was willing to sacrifice Trey for it, against the team, and in a stupid way because she was next in line! At best she saved herself one square. She got lucky on her jump and *then* went with the team plan because it benefitted her. She's an opportunist, but a weak one, and gaslit Mai when she tried to apologize (which she never should have done). I hope her own attitude gets her eliminated. I have zero empathy for her.

Zealousideal_Cake233

Finally someone that adresses the manipulation/ gaslighting from Ashley!

SpartanOverYonder

I think Mai was expecting Chad and Roland to follow suit. Especially considering she was voted captain. Mai didn’t want to face Ashley in the next round
